#11: Black Ice

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Real Name: Alex Lundy

Age: 22

Height: 5’10

Weight: 175 lbs

Powers: Able to create ice particles from his hands

Character info: Black Ice was born several years ago, when I was going to do a comic about a group of college kids who became superheroes (Rock Solid, a character I did on here a few days ago, was also part of the same team). Black Ice’s look back then is pretty much the same right here…even though I only drew his mask before, I knew exactly what I wanted his suit to look like. He will use his ice powers to make an ice snowboard at times, for fast traveling. This character may show up in a comic I am working on soon…

#11 Bubble Gum

| November 11, 2011 | 3 Comments

So I don’t know if anyone out there is following these, but I have been posting some very tongue-in-cheek characters for a humorous project I want to finish after the challenge.

This one is a cartoonier departure from my already cartoony style I have been using. I can’t help it - I love cartoons. I am thinking about switching styles. Haven’t decided yet.

My origin description is short because it’s Friday 🙂 Anyway…here goes. Itroducing Bubble Gum:

Daughter of a wealthy inventor of designer candies and sweets, Candi Kellogg showed a creative flair for the field of chemistry and cooking her own delicious treats as well. Inventing a special formula for various gums, she has created a super power for herself. Gum bubbles are her specialty and her gums can blow many different kinds. Grape gum bubbles float and carries her into the air. Blueberry gum bubbles burst a sticky gum-glue all over a villainous victim. Cherry red gum bubbles bounce any on-coming missiles, falling buildings, debris and even other super powered energy blasts. Sour apple green gum tastes especially good.

Day #10- Penelope Winters

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Penelope has never had trouble fitting in. She’s always been one of the “popular” crowd, hanging out with the rich kids and socialites. Despite her less then pedigree heritage, she always felt like they were the best of friends. That is until they run into her neighbourhood “friends.” Unfortunately the only one who’s prepared for the fight is Penelope, who can usually hold her own, if the numbers were even. Her “popular” friends abandon her leaving her to take the beating on her own. The only people she thought she thought cared about her ditched her when things got rough, and now she’s resolved not to trust anyone, because you can only trust your self.

07 - Shiqi

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Uncina were a result of one of the Mage-Emporers who held a small Kingdom in Western Tibet. He created sentient beings from the Snow Leopards in the hills of his Kingdom to act as his personal guards and enforcers until his death ninety years later. Similar practices were common throughout the world, and at least 107 new sentient races were created. Out of these, only three survived to the present, the Uncina being the most secretive and fewest in number with only around 300 still alive.

They are culturally very different to humans, they are largely solitary and they are not named as humans do - the females take the name of their territory, while, the males, once adult, take their name anew at the Cragmeet - where all Uncina meet on the Winter Equinox every seven years. At this point, male children get their first name - essentially it is a tournament with various physical disciplines. Every males name is essentially his numerical rank - the champion is the Uncina word for “one”, second is Uncina for Ttwo” and so on. They keep this name for seven years when they must defend or attempt to improve upon their rank. Children in their first Cragmeet have a title meaning young, and an Uncina who has fought in seven or more becomes “venerated”, these function to allow for children and elderly to be protected from low status due to age, as status is important in controlling territory. A high ranked fighter has the right to hunt in the territories of lower ranked males surrounding his own. A small number of females enter each year too to assert their prowess.

Shiqi has just come out of his third Cragmeet, and is ranked seventeenth - a very good ranking for one so young, second highest of all those whose first cragmeet was the same as his. He is also the one Uncina to have any notable contact with the outside world, and is unofficial representative to humanity, both to the humans who live in the foothills below the Uncina territories, but also to the group of people from the UN who serve as intermediaries between the Uncina and the rest of the world.

This character came about on a discussion I was having about how “Cat-people” in popular fiction tend to be a bit rubbish - not necessarily as characters, but just that the concept is generic and they are never really presented as anything other than quirky humans who happen to look like cats. I decided it would be an interesting challenge to try and come up with a race of Cat people played seriously, with a social structure that made sense for a species which is solitary, carnivorous and territorial. I’m vaguely pleased with the results.

#11 Dr. Adrian Gibbs

| November 11, 2011 | 5 Comments

While studying faster than light travel, Dr. Gibbs accidentally discovered time travel. He was launched back to the Cretaceous period, where he had to learn how to fight for his survival.

He fashioned himself a spear of wood and bone, and found a long piece of onyx to use as a knife. With these tools he could kill any dinosaur. To kill a T-rex for instance, he would have to jump on the creatures head and stab out its’ eyes.

#11 Glypto The BunkerDillo

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Glyptotherium texanum was a giant armadillo during the Ice Age. I figured my villain’s army of ice animals could use this fella as a traveling castle wall to fight behind. Glypto is a gentle giant, trying to keep his allies happy. I couldn’t imagine the damage he could do if he got angry….

#11 Alex Thayer - Weatherman

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Thunder flashes across the sky as the storm roils over the city. We’ve felt it brewing for the last few days, building in heat and energy. When it broke loose, everyone knew that it was going to be the storm of the century.

Most people took shelter in their homes. With the roads flooded and power-lines down, better to remain safe in a dark home than risk being out on the streets.

That was most people. Not me. With the storm venting its fury, the city was open to me, and I had a list of targets.

There was the mayor, who siphoned funds from the schools to his own private accounts. That was something that I’d been looking forward to a long time.

The local union leader that had looted the worker’s pension fund. He was risking the lives and futures of thousands, and was sitting under house arrest in his thirty million dollar mansion.

A beast of man that had made a habit of leaving his girlfriends bleeding in hospital beds. Right now he was trapped at hotel near the edge of town.

All these and dozens more. There wasn’t any way that I’d be able to finish my list tonight. But as long as the weather held, I didn’t have to wait.

#11 “Liftoff” Laurie Simmons

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Band

Universe details: In the isolated city of Crescent where these characters live, superpowers spring from close encounters with death. Only people born in the city can gain these powers, and since this is a relatively new settlement, the first generation of people born there are just starting to show signs of super-fication. This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.

Height: 5’ 6”

Body Type: Skinny, but with fairly large breasts and buttocks for her age. Ideal target for the hormonal teenage males in town.

Hair: Black, just past the shoulder, tight curls like tiny telephone cords, slick with styling product.

Eyes: Brown with flecks of gold, always glittering and traced with eyeliner, eye shadow, mascara…

Race: White. Skin has some freckling.

Age: 17

Attire: Laurie is very hip to fashion trends and always wears the latest and greatest. She tends to expose her cleavage as often as possible, in order to show off her tattoo of a blossoming rose between her breasts. She knows that besides her powers, seduction is her strength, and she intends to use it.

Superpowers: Gravitational field manipulation (conscious, primary)- Laurie can manipulate how heavy or light an object is, causing it to float or remain grounded and practically unmovable. She can manipulate her own body in order to fly, or manipulate objects to move as she wills them in a form of telekinesis. She cannot, however, use her powers to break down objects that are solid. When her powers are pitted against Max’s metal manipulation, for example, Max finds he can make metal objects escape her influence by breaking them down into enough parts that she can’t focus on controlling them all. In other words, her power is easily overwhelmed by a mass assault, distraction, or sneak attack.

Personality: Laurie is first and foremost a performer. Her personality is characterized by haughtiness, attention to her appearance, and a propensity for telling (convincing) lies. Anyone who is somewhat perceptive (not usually the teenage males with raging hormones) will notice that she comes off as kind of fake right away. Her tendency is to use her powers selfishly to get what she wants, with little concern for others. This is also how she handles her relationships.

Power Source/Backstory:

  1. Laurie was at The Band’s first concert, where overenthusiastic heroes killed a person disguised as a usually robotic police officer.

Theme Song: Bug- Wavves

Day 11: The King Eagle

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments
The King Eagle from the Alliance

Mark Blakely earned the name King Eagle as leader of a fighter squadron in World War II known as Eagle Squad, and for having one of the highest confirmed kills in the war. Afterwards he became a test pilot in the avionics division of scientist/etrepeneur and brother in law Harold Bell (AKA The Shifter). Bell had two years earlier developed a suit that could shrink and grow the size of the wearer. He now adapted this technology to a wing harness along with his physisist wife Karen, that would alter the molecular density of its wearer, and result in him/her being able to fly. Blakely was chosen to do the initial tests for the harness. All was going well for the trial runs, when a malfunction occured and caused Blakely to crash into the tower, killing 3 including his sister Karen. The crash also caused the harness to become bonded to Blakely perminently. Although it was learned later that the malfunction was caused by an agent of I.C.E. Blakely harbored ill feelings for Bell for years to come. Mark after a period of depression was approached by The Alliance to join their group. Reluctantly he did, and at first was a sullen loner. He eventually, however became a trusted and valued member of the group right up until its disapearence in 1953. In 2001 the group reemerged, and not long afterwards the technology came about to remove the harness safely. Blakely is today semi-retired, but occasionally re-teams with his old group…

#5 - Verin

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Verin is a demon of impatience. Because of this vice, he’s lost just about everything he owns to the Game (where demons bet on the lifespan of souls).

#11 - Masked One

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

There is little known about these wing-shrouded beings. Their purpose is unknown, as they have been known to give messages, help those in trouble, harm people seemingly at random, give advice (for either good or ruin), watch, listen, each act seemingly unconnected to the other acts before. No one knows what they look like, though it is said that to gaze upon their true form is to know true wisdom, as well as insanity.

They are known as angels, as demons or devils, masked ones, omens, myths. The few people who have tried to study them have mysteriously disappeared, those to disobey them, less mysteriously.

However, in recent years they have vanished, leaving the newest generation to think of them as myths. They are used in plays and stories as harbingers of doom, or merely to foreshadow tragedy in the future. Only the eldest still remember what it was like to have them wander the earth, and know that when they reappear, it will be a time to hide and pray.

(yay, finally caught up!)

#11 - General Asom

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Number 11! The general of Aremshah!

I am not completely satisfied with his design but I like the colors. But I have him out of my head now, so I can refine the design later!

#7 Nimblus the Cheese Whisperer

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

#10 Candle-Prophets

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Living candle-prophets. Known as Lidontztdoha in their language and Guillemet, for their rather strangely-shaped hoods. They speak in fragments of an unknown danger to the whole world, often burning up after delivering the message outright. Their lifespans are quite short and it’s not very uncommon to find them travel in groups.

The messages they tell to are often complete strangers who have nothing to do with each other, which makes the job of finding the whole message all the more difficult. Even more so, when the people hunted down for the prophecy’s words have forgotten them entirely.

Whether this was intentional on the candle-prophets’ part is unclear.

#5 Tommy Knuckles

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Tommy “Knuckles” Gambino is the grandson of Don Vincent Gambino Sr. of the Gambino crime family. Much to his grandfather’s lament, Tommy had lived with too much violence in his life and turned his back on the family when he was eighteen in order to pursue a career in music. During his time in school, his families reputation followed him and Tommy couldn’t escape the violence. During this time he was approached by the CIA and was asked to become an organized crime “insider”. Seeing this as a means for correcting the wrong his family had committed, Tommy accepted and entered specialized CIA training that was above an beyond normal operative training. Tommy’s specialty was weapon making, which his superiors believed could be an asset to the dons of the crime family and give Tommy some legitimacy for his long absence. Tommy returned to his family and his grandfather received him with open arms. Tommy rose through the ranks of the family quickly and was soon one of this grandfather’s most trusted advisors. That all changed one night when the CIA raided his grandfather’s house and killed the whole family including his mother, and two sisters. Since that time Tommy has been on the run and is trying to piece together who eliminated his family and why.

G. Brett Williams #11 - Johnny Diamond, The Ace of Diamonds

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Johnny Diamond - Johnny is your typical clean cut, blond-haired, blue-eyed, apple pie-eating, All American boy. He’s also something of a technological genius. Engineering ran in Johnny’s family. Going back to the days of the Civil War, his family had been responsible for supplying arms and armor to the American military. Some call it patriotism, some war profiteering, but to Johnny it was just the family business. He never gave it much mind. Johnny spent his youth building things, taking things apart, drawing up plans and schematics, working with his father in his lab. Anything the boy could do to learn more about the science of engineering, he did it. Johnny was a very advanced student and by the age of 19 he’d already completed a bachelor’s degree in science. At age 22, he was completing his masters in engineering. That same year, his parents were murdered and Johnny’s childhood home was burned to the ground. The word had leaked into the criminal community that Johnny’s father was developing a top secret weapon for the military, the kind of weapon that could hold the country hostage with fear if it ever fell into the wrong hands. The secret criminal organization known only as the Order of Osiris attacked Johnny’s family in their home, where his father kept a secret underground laboratory for his most dangerous projects. Somehow the Order found out about this lab and launched an assault on the mansion. Johnny was away at school at the time, so he managed to avoid his family’s gruesome fate. His mother and father were both killed, the plans for the weapon were stolen and the house was burned to the ground. This meant that the time for Johnny to inherit the family business had come. There was a certain unease at the prospect though. To Johnny, the pursuit of newer and more potent weapons was the thing that had ultimately killed his mother and father. Could he justify continuing in his father’s footsteps knowing what he knew about the dangers of munitions manufacturing? Could he put the word in jeopardy as his father had through his carelessness? The thought weighed on him. Johnny knew that he couldn’t simply dismantle the entire company. Regardless of what he had grown to believe about his father’s pursuits, he wasn’t so naive as to think that America would never need weapons again. So instead of completely suspending the company’s production of munitions, Johnny retasked a portion of the company’s assets toward the exploration of non-violent weaponry and fringe science. He appointed himself as the head of this new division and left the running of his father’s company to more qualified men. During his time as the head of this new division of his family’s company, Johnny made new discoveries and created new technologies that drew the attention of scientists and military leaders from around the country and America’s allies in the world. It was a very exciting time for the young savant, but there was always something missing. Johnny never forgot what had happened to his parents, never forgot what the Order of Osiris had done to his family, so when the government came to offer him a chance to fight back against people like the Order and their ilk, Johnny was happy to oblige them.

Sonny ‘Payday’ Malone

Watch out, here comes the Payday!

Been using the same pen for most of these, might try some alternate inking techniques for the next few if possible…
