#5: Papa Doc’s Zombie
This unfortunate individual is the zombie bodyguard of the Haitian gangster Papa Doc (day 4). He’s not your decaying brain eating variety like in The Walking Dead, but the more traditional type of Haitian and African legend. His real name is unknown but some say he was a client of Doc’s who was unable to repay his loan.
#4: Papa Doc
Papa Doc is a Haitian Bokor or sorcerer what some would call a witch doctor. Since his arrival in Alternative City he’s made a name for himself in the underworld as a loan shark and as someone you would go to if you wanted an enemy “taken care of”. Despite his small stature Papa Doc is feared by most people in the community. Partly because of superstition and partly because he usually travels with a seven foot zombie that he created, and no one wants to end up like that poor doomed soul.
Characters 10-20/30
10/30 – Roxie the Racer Queen. Figured on some Mad Max post-apocalyptic type thing. I wanted to draw a squished up minibike, like Akira Toriyama would back in the day.
11/30 – Funcrusher Plus. Upgrade on Funcrusher, the 2.0 if you will. It was inevitable.
12/30 – Razorblade Romantic. Another character based off a memorable album title (HIM’s Razorblade Romance). Mostly, I just wanted to draw a dude with a pompadour and a razorblade.
13/30 – The Blind Boxer. This was the last one I’d done after a very long night, kinda copped out with a quick brush pen illustration. Blind Shaolin fighter.
14/30 – Clean-Up. After some lazy submissions, felt like doing some detail work on this one.
15/30 – Det. Robert Booker. Straight laced, no nonsense cop.
16/30 – Piggy Pig. Booker’s partner. Name’s how the criminal element in town refer to him.
17/30 – The Persistent Hunter. Undead cowboy bounty hunter.
18/30 – The Hermit. Wizened old ninja master hermit type.
19/30 – Grimace the Goblin. Another late night cop out.
20/30 – Riot Grrl. DIY vigilante heroine protecting her city.
#15 Anthro-Zombie-Frog-With Teeth
A zombie aint much if it don’t have teeth… this frog? This Frog Zombie? Its gots teeth.
Day 4: Zomborg
Not much is known about the Zomborg. Is it just an urban myth? Some mad scientist’s idea of a joke to combine a zombie and a cyborg? Who knows. Those that have laid eyes on Zomborg swear that he is real. Lucky for them that since he is powered by cyborgian parts he has lost his hunger for human brains.
#1 MeowMeow Priest
Zombie Priest Kitty is my first submission for this year’s 30 characters!! – 6 minutes before deadline
Day #1- Jared Evrett
Meet Jared Evrett the most passifist Necromancer you’ll find. Jared grew up in a nobel rich family that did more than just ‘Play’ Cultists. Being brought up raising zombies and gods from hell you might think one might be used to the stench. Jared not so much. Although he knows every chant backwards and forwards he prefers not to participate in the more ‘active’ pursuits of most necromancers. Jared would rather curl up with the Necrocomicon and read it forward to back. He is well versed in many languages as well as several dead ones. He’s not to fond of the common zombie, ghost, or goul and most of the demons, demigods, and gods are too pretentious for him. (Although he himself was raised and acts quite snobbishly) If the man could ever get over his distaste for the dead he could probably plunge the world into a new apocolypse. It would work pretty well for him since he’s quite the elitist. He also blends in seamleslly with the city’s upper class.
Roy the Abstract Zombie
Roy likes brains. Roy is also made from stained glass, so he has to be doubly careful during the zombie apocalypse because he could shatter at any time.
#16 – Cross Bones
A dastardly pirate of the high seas, Cross Bones was gunned down during a failed plundering of a royal ship. But the bullet that pierced him was cursed by Gypsie magic and he survived as a pirate of the undead!  Bound to the water, he now must roam the seas looking for the last vestiages of the royal family, whom he must slaughter in order to find his eternal rest.
#16 Benjamin Arthur Fitzgerald, Private 1st Class
Name: Benjamin Arthur Fitzgerald, Private 1st Class
Species: Charred (mutant human)
Age/Sex/Race: 1059/Male/N/A
Main Goal: To remember all of his past
Occupation: Mercenary/Bodyguard
Motivation: Unease at the huge gaps in his memory
Inner Need: Survival
Flaw: Can’t remember anything specific from more than 50-60 years ago. Sort of “out there,” like he was half asleep constantly.
Good/Bad Habits: Follows orders of his current employer/superior without question, comment, or complaint.
Skills, Knowledge, Props: Military training, swordplay, eats and drinks half as much as a normal human, immune to disease, poison, and radiation. Will live indefinitely.
Quirks: Gives his full military designation, Benjamin Arthur Fitzgerald, Private 1st Class, Serial Number 34-886-542, Columbian Army 14th Infantry Division, even though the Columbian Army and Columbia itself were both destroyed in the Backlash.
Attitude: Distant, Drowzy, Docile
Dialogue Style: Extremely terse, sometimes just in single words. Longer thoughts punctuated with “Sir!”
Backstory/Description: Benjamin Arthur Fitzgerald was a soldier in the Columbian Army deployed in Aryabrata during the war with the gods. When the gods ended the world in the Backlash, he was exposed to the raw light of creation, which seared off his flesh but also made him immortal. He has since wandered the lands of Aryabrata for 1000 years, selling his services as a mercenary or bodyguard for whatever they will pay, all the while steadily losing his long-term memory.
Here’s another guy from that same post-apocalyptic setting. I envisioned him as being hired by Sargonovus as a bodyguard.
#6 – Epitaph
Â
The zombie detective who returns from beyond the grave to solve crimes of the occult, Epitaph was once a man whose practice of the mystic arts left him a conduit for mystic energy! Now, whenever the cries of the innocent are unheard by the law, he returns from his eternal slumber to correct the careful balance of the universe!
#2. Soul Sister
Ayesha St. Croix only ever wanted to be like her big sister Ayana. Like her late mother before her, Ayana was chosen to lead her close-knit Haitian village as the High Priestess, and was gifted with her mother’s mystical abilities. Ayesha was always jealous of the favored Ayana, and struck a deal with a demon to take her sister’s powers for herself. The pact worked—Ayesha gained mastery over the living and the dead, as well as intimate knowledge of universal secrets. The transfer also happened to kill Ayana, which Ayesha had hoped to avoid. She is now forever haunted by her actions, and the voices of the dead will never let her rest. She now travels the globe, seeking redemption for her sins and meting out the judgment of the wicked.
But it’s not all misery and torment–Ayesha now possesses some powerful abilities. She is able to sense the supernatural, from demons and ghosts to the auras of a person’s soul. She can speak to the dead (and undead) and bid them to do as she commands. Her hellfire bolts are effective against living enemies, but her rather large and jagged knife is pretty effective, too.
