2013 Challenge: Day 5- Algernon Pickwiggins

Algernon Pickwiggins

Algernon is a consummate gentleman’s gentleman. Not even his on demise in 1948 has kept him from his duties. Stiff upper lip..and everything else too.

Characters 10-20/30

| November 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

10/30 – Roxie the Racer Queen. Figured on some Mad Max post-apocalyptic type thing. I wanted to draw a squished up minibike, like Akira Toriyama would back in the day.

11/30 – Funcrusher Plus. Upgrade on Funcrusher, the 2.0 if you will. It was inevitable.

12/30 – Razorblade Romantic. Another character based off a memorable album title (HIM’s Razorblade Romance). Mostly, I just wanted to draw a dude with a pompadour and a razorblade.

13/30 – The Blind Boxer. This was the last one I’d done after a very long night, kinda copped out with a quick brush pen illustration. Blind Shaolin fighter.

14/30 – Clean-Up. After some lazy submissions, felt like doing some detail work on this one.

15/30 – Det. Robert Booker. Straight laced, no nonsense cop.

16/30 – Piggy Pig. Booker’s partner. Name’s how the criminal element in town refer to him.

17/30 – The Persistent Hunter. Undead cowboy bounty hunter.

18/30 – The Hermit. Wizened old ninja master hermit type.

19/30 – Grimace the Goblin. Another late night cop out.

20/30 – Riot Grrl. DIY vigilante heroine protecting her city.

Jerry Khaba brother of the pharaoh, was buried alive with the fallen king’s body. He was a man of looks, fashion and self preservation. He loved tanning, and he wasn’t finished his tan when he was locked in Khaba’s tomb. So he used sorcery to keep himself alive so that when his brother’s tomb was raided – hopefully not long after the ceremony – he could bask in the sun one more time before passing. Only 4660 years passed when the tomb was unsealed, Jerry was so excited! After all the scientist were scared away,  taking one step into the sun, he was overwhelmed by its brightness. He went to block what eyes he had left from the sun, he burst into dust. The above picture is a depiction of what his last moment was like… total and utter euphoria.

#6 Deadeye Huitzilo the Vaquero

| November 14, 2011 | 2 Comments

In the late nineteenth century, a group of gringo treasure hunters popped south of the border hoping to find some fabled Aztec gold. Instead, they left emptyhanded, only leaving about two dozen or so disintered Aztec burial grounds in their greedy wake. One of those tombs was that of the emperor. Shortly thereafter, his sworn protector, Huitzilo felt himself dragged back to the mortal coil only to walk the Earth again, seeking to punish the defilers, even if it takes eternity.
The weapons might be different these days, but brutality never changes.

Sorry it’s not colored & like the others I did. I’m opting to spend the time catching up. If I’ve the extra time, I’ll go back & add them.

On the list of jumping off points I had for characters “cowboy mummy” was a joke but was something I kept going back to trying to rationalize. It suddenly clicked when I figured there was a better chance of an Aztec mummy than your garden variety Egyptian bandaged number wandering the old west; so I went that route. His name is based on Huitzilopochtli, who wikipedia tells me was the Aztec god of war. The word has something to do with hummingbirds, which I thought would also have a cool connotation as to how quick a shot he is, despite rigor & the frailty of a corpse.

#15 Jake Boneswarm

| November 22, 2010 | 2 Comments

Jake Boneswarm is a new character in the world and story of Art Geek Zoo: The Way of Sound.

Jake Boneswarm is known to Musica’s gholhems and mystical instruments as a roaming undead musician. Initially seen as a threat, now Jake is well respected among the instruments as they appreciate his considerable talent. He’s also seen as a cursed artist to have respect and pity over as he’s bound to his skeletal form, cursed to perform once per day for as large of a crowd as he can find or gather at a moments notice when the curse takes effect.

What the unsuspecting instruments and gholhems don’t know is that Jake became cursed when he stole the spirits of a few famous musicians some years ago. The musician’s spirits all cursed Jake so if he didn’t perform for as big of an audience as he can find every single day – Jake would turn to dust.

After the curse Jake Boneswarm swore he’d never steal a spirit again. However, such a promise could prove hard to keep if he crossed paths with a bunch of talented musicians all at once – such as the bunch of talented musicians in that have joined Professor Razorclaw’s class at Polytechnica.

#2. Soul Sister

Soul Sister

Voodoo Super-Killer Extraordinaire

Ayesha St. Croix only ever wanted to be like her big sister Ayana. Like her late mother before her, Ayana was chosen to lead her close-knit Haitian village as the High Priestess, and was gifted with her mother’s mystical abilities. Ayesha was always jealous of the favored Ayana, and struck a deal with a demon to take her sister’s powers for herself. The pact worked—Ayesha gained mastery over the living and the dead, as well as intimate knowledge of universal secrets. The transfer also happened to kill Ayana, which Ayesha had hoped to avoid. She is now forever haunted by her actions, and the voices of the dead will never let her rest. She now travels the globe, seeking redemption for her sins and meting out the judgment of the wicked.

But it’s not all misery and torment–Ayesha now possesses some powerful abilities. She is able to sense the supernatural, from demons and ghosts to the auras of a person’s soul. She can speak to the dead (and undead) and bid them to do as she commands. Her hellfire bolts are effective against living enemies, but her rather large and jagged knife is pretty effective, too.
