#27 Jetpack Jack

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Jetpack Jack is a high flying costumed adventurer who as his name implies gets around with a cool ass jetpack! That’s right! A jetpack! He built the jetpack to win a bar bet and since then he dispenses juicy jetpack justice to evildoers as Jetpack Jack!

#21 Fe-Male

| November 29, 2011 | 1 Comment

The wealthy playboy known simply as Ivan is the heir to the Blacktower Defense fortune. Someone as notable as him receives a lot of different threats on a daily basis, some much larger than others. That’s why it helps to have Fe-Male on retainer as his primary bodyguard. While Fe-Male doesn’t make many public appearances, Ivan is happy to speak for & about the mysterious, mechanical stranger. Able to go toe to toe with entire tank battalions, Fe-Male shows not only flight, durability, & energy projection; but also style & finesse, two things Ivan believes are sorely missing among superheroes today. Speaking of things gone missing, the press often finds it strange that Ivan & Fe-Male are rarely ever seen together.

Ivan is fooling no one.

Get it? Periodic Table humor.

The second of the punny-name-making-the-hero ideas I went with. I hated them both but they almost seemed too bad not to use. Can’t take full credit as I saw a philosoraptor meme image with the text “Iron man. Fe Male?” I just ran with the name. I wanted to play it up & go fierce. Instead, I pulled it back a little just to kind of be practical from a battle standpoint. That being said, I’m guessing the exposed skin is far from practical when bullets & laser blasts are flying around. I just figured it’d help sell the idea. I think my favorite thing about any of this is the leaning on the repulsor. Might’ve goofed the feet a little, but I like the pose.

#1 Felix and #2 Alessa

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Yeah, yeah, I’m late. My phone can’t upload pictures so I wanted to find a comouter and post from there, but I haven’t found the time. I’m worried that I’ll be kicked out before I do get the time, so I’ll just post them all sad and pictureless. I have 23 right now.

Anyway, so my first character is Felix. He’s training at a sort of supervillain academy. The school works in that you start as a henchman and try to rise your way up to be a full-blown villain with henchmen of your own. Think store worker to CEO, except, ya know, nefarious. Felix is a teenager and thus is old enough to lead his own little band of mooks to carry out deeds for his villain. He pretty much picked all of his friends at the school. They’re the ‘distracter’ group, I’ll tell you why they’re necessary to the plans soon. Anyway, Felix likes to stick to the instructions given out to him by his leader…maybe too well, since if his plans unfold wrong somehow, he’s left floundering until one of his more ingenious underlings comes up with another one.

The next character is Alessa, and she’s in a superhero academy. It works differently than the supervillain school. Here you serve in a kind of apprenticeship under one superhero and when you’ve learned enough, you either take up their mantle or become their sidekick. Sort of like knights, you know? Anyway, the superheroes have their code of chivalry too, and one of the rules is that you must always stop and help anyone in need. This is why the supervillain distracters work so well. They act as citizens, or even other superheroes in peril. They also plant evidence and create red herrings that the superheroes are forced to follow. These deeds leave enough time for the villains to execute their plots. Alessa is irritated by the rule because she constantly finds herself stopping to, oh, help someone’s cat out of a tree when she should be chasing the villain. Skipping over people gets her in trouble with her mentor. Alessa tends to try to fight whatever she feels is the biggest threat at the moment, usually letting everything else slide when she does so.

Alessa and Felix accidentally meet when she skips over a distraction that would have given him enough time to start the next one. Instead she runs into him ahead of schedule. She demands to know what he’s doing and who he is, and, being a sucky improviser, he decides just to tell her the truth. Both of their operations that day fail because she deems him not to be that bad and they pretty much spend the rest of the time just talking and finding out about each others’ pretty much opposite lives.

Anyway, to skip to the point, they start dating in a not-so-secret way. In an avoidance of the ever-annoying romeo and juliet plot, their friends and mentors do not especially care. So Felix is dating some superhero girl, so what? As long as he keeps helping them succesfully commit crimes and he doesn’t tattle to her or anything, they’re good. And Alessa is dating some supervillain guy? Fine, as long as she keeps stopping his plots. That’s the difficult part for them, being against each other while, ya know, still being with each other. And if they fail enough, they’ll get kicked out of their respective schools for good.

Kay, hopefully this wasn’t too horrid or incoherent. Hope it made up for the no picture thing :c.

#12 – Lost Star

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was still listening to “Cosmic Love” while thinking of this character. Galaxy Girl needed a male counterpart, so I created her “brother.” He is an older being, but is only given a star. Lost Star tend to wander around and likes to discover new things.

#11 – Galaxy Girl

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I needed more Space-related characters and came up with her. I was watching the music video of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love” while looking at X-23 #16’s cover art and then boom. Most of the systems in her don’t have planets with life in them. She’s still a WIP.

#8 The Duke of Brixton

| November 16, 2011 | 0 Comments

Courageous acts made him legendary. And after saving the King’s only son, a medieval peasant named Henry, with extraordinary abilities far beyond that of common men, was given the honorary title of Duke of Brixton. That title, along with flight, superstrength, & nigh-invulnerability has been passed down from generation to generation ever since. They’ve always stood to protect England & to protect the crown. Nowadays, the threats are even bigger, but the Duke is always at the ready.

The current duke, Simon, has carried the title since 1981. Before that, he was just a kid, listening to ska, wanting nothing to do with his family’s wealth or status. He rebelled against authority, having no intention of ever becoming it. That was until his father died while selflessly thwarting a nuclear blast over Sheffield. It stirred something in the young punk. It was then that he buckled down, realizing that being Duke wasn’t only an obligation, but a symbol of national pride. And in his day, Simon came to be regarded as one of the greatest Dukes in history. He fought terrorists & supervillains. He stopped his own nuclear attacks, & even an alien invasion or two. This also put him directly in the public eye. He had a series of PSA’s with the BBC, he used his likeness to endorse special superscience projects throughout the UK, Hollywood movies based on his exploits, & for a time, his own line of organic yogurts. In the late eighties, he even became a tabloid fixture, sparking a relationship with his then Cold War rival Zavtra, whom he later married & divorced.

More recently, Simon’s fallen out of the limelight. A single father, for a time, he put off superheroics to raise his & Zavtra’s daughter, Alina. When he was ready to come back, the world was different. An influx of other superheroes meant less crises to go around; usually it’d be averted by the time he got there. More than anything these days, The Duke uses his celebrity & pretty substantial means to forward scientific & humanitarian projects at fundraisers & charity dinners, feeling there’s more than one way to be a hero. This, of course does nothing to help the popular belief that he’s too old & washed up to be saving the day. The thing is, he’d retire in a second if his now-grown, & awfully rebellious daughter was ready to assume her inevitable role as the first ‘Duchess of Brixton’. But it seems she’d much rather party & tear up half of London in her own drunken escapades than gear up & save the world. Secretly, Simon can relate. At the same time, he remembers the jarring incident that woke him up, & only hopes Alina pulls herself together before she’s forced to.

—-

Earlier this year, I had an idea for an Entervoid character. She was an entitled, bratty party girl who just happened to be the daughter of superheroes. She was sort of the black sheep & fodder for the tabloids. I started developing her but not much into the family she came from. The furthest I got was that they were a long line of superhumans going far back into the middle ages in the UK, & as a reward for their heroic actions, at some point received an honorary title & were famed protectors of the realm ever since. That was about as far as I got before I got distracted & started doing something else. So here’s her dad. But frankly, if I were to do another void character, I’m thinking right now it’d probably be Glorious Sentai Gokaider Red, my first character from this year. Probably because I think this family has a lot of story to explore, more than you could probably show in character battles.

There of course is no Brixton title in British Heraldry. Figured it was best to make one up as opposed to stepping on a real duke or something. I went with Brixton simply because of the Clash song (& why there’s also maybe a little bit of Paul Simonon going on in the face). Originally, I was just planning to make him look like an upper class, well-yet-casually dressed Englishman in a suit. But I thought that might be a cop out. So I started to work on something that might be his Hero suit, intending it to be something you’d see in like an X-men movie or Wildstorm book from the late nineties/early oughts. Ultimately I’m not super thrilled with it because I don’t think it gets the point across. What I really I wanted, was to kind of give the idea that he’s been a bit vestigial & out of touch, & the last time he was a big deal was that Oasis/Spice Girls sort of era. Oh & he’s supposed to be levitating, not standing on tip toes. It might look a little strange without a point of reference. And again, I’ll give it a proper color job if I ever have the time, but that’s looking less & less likely.

Sorry, that all got a little verbose.

#13: Duo

| November 14, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Martial Arts Alchemist, Duo.

Jason Kim was an agent of the John Dee Society in Alchemy and partner to Nick Dyer. These Alchemy Agents were responsible with upholding the Rules of Alchemy and the protectors of the Philosopher’s Stone Mound, located off of Lake Michigan, but it was not always so.  Before Jason Kim, he was  Huan Hsaing, and Alchemist during the height of Chinese Alchemy research and he was the first to tap into the Elixir of Immortality in prolonging his life. Throughout the centuries, Huan saw and experienced many great and terrible things until he was approached by John Dee in the 1550’s and was inducted into the secret Dee Society, along with Edward Dyer, an English poet/alchemist, who Huan became fast friends with. The Dee Society went through many ups and downs; from Dee’s research into the paranormal, the rebirth of Hermes Trismegistus and the Books of Thoth, to the civil war within the society between Dee, Edward Kelly/Talbot, and a resurrected Nicholas Flamel. These battles all centered around safeguarding and procuring the Philosopher Stone Mounds, along with Huan’s Elixir of Immortality. Though Dyer never took it, Huan has consumed the Elixir as a means to protect his friend’s family, for contrary to the other prominent Alchemists, Edward a successful Alchemist, able to circumvent certain rules of Transmutation and his gift passed on to his offspring, along with Edwards Philosopher’s Stone as a Dyer has always been a member with the John Dee Society.

It wasn’t until Nick Dyer’s death that Huan, now Jason Kim, suspected any wrongdoing within the Society, but after conducting his own investigation around Nick’s car accident, Jason suspects another coup is in the works within the society and he must prepare Nick’s son, Alan in the ways of Alchemy, before the group that took Alan’s father, come for him next.

As Duo, Jason trains Alan in both harnessing his father’s Philosopher Stone, but also in defending himself in combat. He also acts as Alan’s source of intel in dealing with threats beneath the Society’s notice, but not for the Front Line.

Abilities: With a Philosopher’s Stone embedded in his left eye, Jason is capable of creating organic and inorganic transmutations with his hands and feet via touch. His eye also accelerates his mental calculations so as to be able to make create objects quickly, as well as see the chemical composition of various objects and see various spectrums of light invisible to the naked eye. Jason is also a skilled martial artist, having mastered over 70 different fighting styles, from weapon to open-handed combat, throughout his long lifetime. Jason is also a skilled chemist and is one of the founders of the Elixir of Immortality. Jason is also an Agent of the John Dee Society and has access to their vast library of  alchemy knowledge as well as their resources in determining threats that the Dee society won’t handle, but can get them to Alan and the Front Line to handle.

Creation: I wanted to make a mentor type character to go with the Alchemist, as well as being a fan of stark contrast costumes, with the ying yang motif being the basis for his wardrobe. It also aids in the Taoist philosophies inherent in Chinese Alchemy, which is a happy accident on my part.

#10 Sanu

| November 13, 2011 | 2 Comments

Born on the big island of Hawaii, Sanu simply thought he was getting tribal tats put on his body – adding a belly design and paying tribute to his gang, when something went horribly wrong. as the last dot of ink was added to his belly design, more tattoos grew up his neck and over his face and head, and finally over his back. Something took him over. Something otherworldly, and now he is inhabitted by a spirit of unimaginable power. Sanu was placed on the team after leveling a small village on Molokai, killing everyone. He is used by the team primarily as a “nuke” – being brought into impossible situations where there is no other hope.

#9 Squadron Leader

| November 13, 2011 | 0 Comments

Squadron Leader

Along with Dr. Omnibus, Squadron Leader was one of the first superly-abled to go into heroing. Gifted with the ability of flight, Squadron Leader was a patriot and fought in Vietnam alongside Capt. Bicentennial.

After serving in Vietnam, Squadron Leader and Dr. Omnibus co-founded The Squadronnaires. Squadron Leader co-led the team until his death in 1984, during the first Invisible War.

#12: Boost

| November 12, 2011 | 1 Comment

A power amplifier, Boost.

Young Sara Walsh has a special ability; she can enter the bodies of people and amplify their abilities, particularly super humans. A power booster, Sara was abducted from her home by the Archangel Corporation’s private military group and brought in for tests on the the potential her ability can do for their living weapons. The discovered that her ability gives no drawbacks to anyone using her, as she absorbs all the damage an overloaded person would normally take and with her healing factor, stay alive to do it again. This went on for years, until the Front Line, now waging a war with the Archangel Corporation, free her during a facility transfer. Rescued, the Front Line attempts to offer her membership into the group, yet Sara only wants to see her family, only to find out that the truth was, it was her own family that sold her to the Archangel Corporation.

Betrayed and now having a reason to fight Archangel, Sara joins the Front Line under the code name, Boost, where the team implements her as a support/rescue operative and provide her asylum and treatments with the Loman Organization.

Abilities: Boost has the ability to amplify another individuals abilities. This is achieved by her essentially shutting off the body’s own limit controls in tandem with her own energy pouring into the subject to increase one’s abilities exponentially. To prevent the physical and mental pain that would occur should an individual “overclock” themselves, Boost absorbs all the stress and pain into her own body and takes the hit for them. Her healing factor enables her to recover from these injuries, yet if she uses or absorbs too much, her body will physically shut down so that it can recover completely.  Boost has also recently learned to use her ability offensively by “overloading” an individual by amplifying them to the point that they themselves pass out from the shockwave of pain, yet she still receives the pain backlash, albeit in a reduced capacity.

Creation: I can not take complete credit for the credit for the character, save for her design and name, as she was given to me by former owner of Brainstorm Comics, Robert Kimmons, as he told of a superhero character he used that would amplify other character’s abilities, yet didn’t have an explanation on how her powers would work. I supplied one based on Naruto’s Guy and Rock Lee’s own ability to release their own mental limits, and he offered to let me use the character for my own comic use. The offensive use of her ability came from watching Scryed’s Scheris Adjani’s Alter, Eternal Devote, used to deliver shocks of pain to an enemy, so I included it into her ability list. Her  first name was actually based on a girl I knew in college and for a long while, her visual design was based on her, until recent as I had to draw this character from off the top of my head and I was also updating her attire for this challenge.
