#20 Abby the nearsighted cockatrice

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

abby is a cockatrice which is an ENORMOUS vicious uh. cock. with a lizard tail. if i remember my mythology correctly it was something insane like they hatch from the egg of a 10 year old cock (not hen) that lies in the sun for 30 days or something rediculous. they live in barren areas and, like a medusa, can turn things to stone with a glare.

they are not small. they are not cute. ponies are stupid. if you disagree well, that’s just like. your opinion, man.

abby suffers from nearsightedness which means that most of the time she just sets the desert around her on fire in a blind rage. anyone who gets close enough for abby to turn them to stone usually regrets thinking she’s harmless…

this and the manticore (which has a human face and no mane, bronies.) were two of my favourite monsters as a kid. so i’m rather miffed to see what’s become of them due to pop culture.

#15: Walter Ramsey

| November 16, 2011 | 1 Comment

Loman’s own werewolf agent, Walter Ramsey.

Born in Scotland in the 1600s, Walter was an ordinary traveling merchant until he came across a pack of werewolves in Jurgenburg, Livionia. After witnessing them transform and do battle with demonic entities from a portal, Walter wanted to and was inducted into their pack, called The Hounds of God. As part of the Hounds, Walter protected Europe from demonic threats during his travels, until the height of supernatural paranoia led to the deaths of several of his pack members and the eldest member being lashed when he attempted to reveal their work to the outside world. Walter realized his family was not safe and went to protect them, but his wife, and their daughter, left Walter to sail to the Colonies.

Walter traveled the world in a drunker stupor  over the centuries, fighting any random supernatural threat he comes across while slowly losing himself more and more to his werewolf self, until he was approached by Arthur Loman in working with his Loman Organization. Using a nanomachines to regulate his transformations, Walter was given a renewed sense of purpose in doing the work that he originally started with the Hounds of God.

Currently, Walter works as a field operative for Team Zeus, along with Adam Mortensen. He acts as a semi-father figure to agent Deidra Edelweiss, and a drinking buddy to several members of the Loman Organization.

Abilities: As a werewolf, Walter is capable of transforming into a wolfen creature with enhanced strength, speed and senses. When in his human form, Walter possesses a degree of enhanced strength and all of his enhanced senses.  While Walter is capable of transforming at will, his emotional state in both his human and were forms change based on the phases of the moon.

Having a nanomachine fleet in his body regulates his werewolf states and enable him to have relatively painless transformations via requests to Loman HQ, as well as giving him the ability to transform into various stages of  his Lycan state;

Stage 1: Similar to the Wolfman films, with full hair, enlongated claws and fangs and increased muscle mass.

Stage 2: An in-between to Wolfman and wolf form. Even more increased strength and power.

Stage 3: Looks like a bipedal wolf with a tail and almost full access to his lycan abilities, yet retains his mind

Stage 4: Full access to his werewolf traits, yet is driven by pure instinct and harder to keep in control.

Walter wears flexible body armor that stretches during his transformations and boots that open at the toes when he goes into full werewolf mode. Walter also favors wearing a trenchcoat that is enchanted with protective wards and armor lined to protect Walter form physical and mystical attacks.

Creation: Walter was created as me and Carlos both are werewolf fans and wanted to make a werewolf character. I made him more of a fun character and gave him a laid-back personality, while Carlos helped in fleshing out his backstory and added the father figure role to elemental witch Deidra. I based his character of a historical reference in 1692 by a court testimony about an old man  in Jurgenburg, Livonia, who claimed that werewolves were agents of God and that he and several other werewolves would travel to Hell and fight demons, while the Hounds of God Tag came from a werewolf character in Neil Gaiman’s, The Graveyard Book. The pose shows his semi-casual look as the pose was referencing a Hellblazer cover,, while his werewolf form is shown behind him as a tell of what his werewolf form would look like to the viewer.

Anil is part dragon, part boy, and lives in the high, secluded mountians in a small tribe. He is often ridiculed because of his small wingspan, which are not large enough to support his flight. So instead, he works as an backup assistant for the local medic, where can can stay on the ground. In his spare time he likes to climb and explore around his home.

#4 Blue eyes dragon

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

This guy is totally blind, those eyes on his hide is just markings. He has better hearing, though, and can sense movement more than anything by picking out soundwaves with the disks portruding from his back. Blue is an agressive type and will not back down when he has something to say but is more than ears when someone else speaks. Be careful though, He almost never likes what he hears.

I think I’ll make a little series of these kind of characters, I want to work with more vivid colours.

#5 Kanjii

| November 6, 2011 | 0 Comments

Kanjii is a nasty spider-boy who loves messing with travelers in his forest. He chases them around and pretends to want to eat them. His diet actually consists of bugs and berries. However, he’s really a bit of a coward so the few that do fend for themselves end up scaring him. If them catch him he will show them the secret shortcuts in the forest.

A Slither, a monster from my novel “Mentor”

A Slither, a monster from my novel, "Mentor"

Mentor: A science fantasy adventure, by J S Rowe

Slither

These reptilian predators were thought at first to be those that escaped from the BioSynth transport container that was delivering a shipment of designer DNA “snakes”  to the Ancient Wonders Theme Park. That BioSynth container had been derailed by a small earthquake which opened up a large sinkhole that swallowed parts of two buildings as well as the part of the stasis tube that separated them. The container crashed through the tube and shattered itself on the ground, releasing it’s charges to the wilds. There were six “snakes” as they were dubbed, though no one had a description other than they would grow to be up to four feet long and eight to twelves inches in diameter. Thought to be engineered to be sterile, Ancient Wonders was sent another batch fresh from the Vats by way of compensation, and the lost snakes became no more than an entry in a ledger subtracting their cost in engineering and bio mass from the main stores and the profit and loss paras.

But as usual nature has its own commitment to keep regarding the viability of her creatures whether conjured through evolution itself or by the helpful hand of  intelligent monkeys. Some how  they did manage to breed, and along the way, grew legs and claws, four of them, and grew to a much larger size than predicted and spread themselves through out the Under City.

Under City inhabitants hunted them to keep their numbers down and found that their meat was very tasty as long as the creature was fully bled at its death, and as well, that it’s venom was a useful numbing agent for practical medical applications. Once a way was found to pierce the scales, those too were found to be useful for both ornamentation, and protective coverings.

The Slither prefers the darkness, hunting its prey by smell. The poison secreted from long sacs on either side of the head, paralyses the prey of the Slither instantly. Though it looks clumsy and somewhat comical, it is lightning fast and deadly. The unhinged jaw can open wide enough to swallow a fully grown Wamba bear, but it’s preference is for the tender flesh of  babies and young humanoids, and any other smallish mammals.

#18 Candlesleer

| November 20, 2010 | 0 Comments

Name: Candlesleer
Species: Giant Floating Head (severely mutated human)
Age/Sex/Race: 88/Male/N/A
Main Goal: Make his tribe survive
Occupation: Tribal chieftain of a tribe of floating heads
Motivation: Survival
Inner Need: Respect, success
Flaw: Reactionary, short tempered, blood thirsty
Good/Bad Habits: Leads by example, first to rise, first to rest. Sees all criticism or hesitation as a challenge to his authority.
Skills, Knowledge, Props: Very good memory, knows the migration patterns of animals, good strategist.
Quirks: Inexplicably has four constantly-burning candles growing out of his tentacle-eyeballs. Gets offended whenever somebody asks about them.
Attitude: Jovial
Dialogue Style: Verbose, often repeats whole sentences with slight variation between them. Very loud.
Backstory/Description: In the frozen tundra of the Sacred Lands live a race of floating head people, who call their land Sacred and declare it a sin to touch it, hence they levitate everywhere. Candlesleer was born into one of the several semi-nomadic tribes of floating heads, led by his father, their incompetant and forgetful chieftain. When Candlesleer was barely 25, the age of sexual maturity in his people, his father declared him the new chieftain. Though the other heads were skeptical, at first, Candlesleer won their respect by memorizing the migration patterns of animals and using that knowledge to help his people find food. His tribe has thrived ever since.

Alright, here’s another three from my post apocalyptic campaign. I like this setting; it’s easy to come up with characters for it. However, I’m more than ready to be done with this competition. This is starting to wear me out.

#3 Ghoul Boy

| November 6, 2010 | 0 Comments

Ghoul Boy is an amorphous Imp/Obnoxious Spirit that runs around annoying the other monsters, they try to shrug him off, which only makes him more determined to hang around with them, and learn their ways of Monstering. This character is based on a Halloween costume I cobbled together from a Skeleton Mask, a Black Balaclava, a cape and no, not my skinless bare muscled body, for a Halloween party when I was about 7 or 8? My original costume included a thin black jumper, and thin Black jeans. I think this re-design looks a bit more freaky or edgy, as Ghoul Boy can will his body to morph from skeleton to human-like shapes. I’ll upload the Photo if I can find it again.

#1 – The Bearded Menace

| November 2, 2010 | 3 Comments

The Bearded MenaceFigured I’d get this guy out of the way.  The Bearded Menace spawned from the name of my portfolio site (http://www.beardedmenace.com), and when I first dreamed him up, he was to be more or less the mascot for the whole operation.  I eventually went a different route, and little Menace here took a seat on the back burner for a while.  But, here he is now, in a finalized state!  I’m still debating his main color, I guess, but brown will do fine for now.

As a creature, The Bearded Menace is a grumpy, quiet type.  His past times include loafing about and gnawing on things.  He prefers sweets, but will chew on anything he deems to look tasty, or that offends him to look at.  That is to say he’s not too picky.  A short, stocky thing, he relies on his magnificent facial locks to woo those around him.  He can usually be found wandering his natural habitat of dense forest or traversing rocky mountains.
