Day 28-Underachieve

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Underachieve has no problem coming to the rescue, just let him finish watching this YouTube link a friend just sent him. Then he just has to send a couple tweets and check his Facebook news feed. After that he needs to order his latte and check e-mails, but then he will get right on helping with your problem.

Day 28: Cairwan, Void Caller

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Cairwan is an enigmatic character. He acts heroically, most of the time, using his supernatural abilities of teleportation, “shadow-stretching” and casting illusions to meddle with criminals. Some say he fights villains just to have victims to toy with. He is playful, with a dark humor and a wicked smile. His favorite trick is to open portals and call strange tentacled and many toothed creatures from the place he laughingly calls the Void.

#5 Lightblast

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

For most of his life, Donovan Jastrow lived on the dark side–being born into a broken family, running with gangs, committing petty theft and being a punk in school.  There were moments of kindness; he took care of his younger sister Laurie and watched out for his best friend Ronnie, but Donovan secretly wished for a life of peace and stability, a life that Ronnie had.

One night, Donovan’s world nearly claimed Ronnie’s life.  A rival gang opened fire on the two while they were leaving a movie, and in saving Ronnie’s life, Donovan was wounded.  But the fates dealt Donovan a favor–Ronnie’s uncle, an eccentric but brilliant scientist, was so moved by Donovan’s deed that he not only paid the medical bills, but offered Donovan a chance to turn his life around.  He moved Ronnie and Laurie into a new apartment, and gave Donovan a means to make a difference and fight for the right side–an experimental suit that gives the user the ability to use light itself as a weapon, by creating powerful photon blasts that can temporarily blind an opponent or even punch a ten foot wide hole through a wall.  The suit grants the user increased speed and agility and can even protect from small arms fire.

Donovan took up the challenge of wearing the suit, and now, as the hero known as “Lightblast”, he takes on the criminal elements of his city.  The police view him as a vigilante, but allow him to operate and even seek his help at times.  Now there is no turning back, and Donovan is determined to continue on his path away from the dark, and to make sure that Laurie has a chance at a better life.

#3 The Triad

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

They are seen in the skies above Avalon City–three figures of metal, each one capable of great speed, strength and flight, and all three take on the criminal element of the city, as well as threats deemed too great for the Avalon City Police Department.

Who are they?  At times, there are two males and one female; at other times, two females and one male.  Their identities remain a mystery, and yet, they are a sight to behold.  The citizens of the city look to them with hope, and it was a child who gave the trio the name that has stuck: the Triad.

#25 LITTLE RED

My take on the classic fairy tale character. Little Red is all grown up, and has become an accomplished warrior. Her skills now allow her to be a champion in the fight for those oppressed in the magic forest.

A generic female super hero character design. Kind of a mash up of Marvels Cyclops of the X-Men and Spider Woman with DC’s Batman. 😀

#21 STALKER

| November 28, 2012 | 1 Comment

Not sure where this lady came from in my head. Except Im guessing that Michonne from the Walking Dead TV show has been an inspiration. I envision this character being similar in strength and focus. Plus the dread locks too. LOL I image she is some sort of rogue special ops super soldier. Probably a Punisher kind of character. Taking down crime lords or international criminals. Maybe STALKER will be the one to locate and finally take out KOBY Ha!

The political representative from the CORE. The CORE is a loosely arranged alignment of planets and solar systems that rule the Milky Way Galaxy from the center or “core” of the galaxy. This character is from a Sci Fi comic I have been developing for years. Someday…. 😀

DAY 28: 21st Century Sandshark Studios presents…”MANTA” RAY

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

DAY 28

21st CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS

IN CONJUNCTION WITH

THE 30 CHARACTER IN 30 DAY CHALLENGE

Presents…

MANTA RAY

Character Biography: Raymond “Manta Ray” Barstow was born in the sleepy fishing town of Belfast, Maine in 1920.  His father was a fishing boat Captain and former decorated navy Chief Petty Officer in the Spanish/American War and World War I.  His mother was oceanographer and marine biologist.   From the time he could walk both parents instilled a sense of love and wonder for the sea.  Ray was both an exceptional student and athlete, having won the state diving and track and field varsity championships in 1937.  Ray won an athletic scholarship to the University of Maine in 1938.  Ray was in his junior year studying to earn a double major in oceanography and marine biology when World War II broke out.

Ray immediately volunteered for the US Navy and through a letter of recommendation from the state governor and local representative, was able to attain a special exemption for the four year degree requirement to enter officer candidate school after basic.  Following graduation Ray became one of the first students of the newly formed Amphibious Scout and Raider School (A precept to The Navy SEALS) in 1942.

Barstow was a Lieutenant in 1943 when he was given his first post on the now fabled Special Service #1, where he was given a first class field education in map making, wilderness survival, jungle warfare, and small craft operation, having seen some of the most pivotal and bloody battles of the Pacific Theatre.

In 1945 Barstow led one of the advanced companies of about 300 men into the Battle of Okinawa.  His expert planning and organization gave his company one of the highest kill ratios and lowest fatality rates of the battle.  For which he was promoted to a full Commander and awarded a Silver Star.

After the war, Barstow returned home and earned a PHD from the University of Maine in 1949.  Over the next 10 years, Barstow became one of the most high profile Marine Biologists, Oceanographer, explorer, and adventurers.  Much of his expeditions have landed him in conflicts with hostile natural and often un-natural adversaries!  His military skill, talents, strength, cunning, and resourcefulness  has landed him as a media celebrity of sorts, that have won him high profile grants and even television and news coverage for his various expeditions.

Gary “Fox” Black used to be a teacher of swordmanship back in Earth. He then moved on to Planet 13 and one night, Spyrious’s murdering robots killed his whole family while they were asleep. And that night, Gary was on a night shift as a security guard, because they were low on money.

Since then, Gary Black is dressed in black and seeks vengeance, as Black Steel, the vigilante of the new frontier.

Day 28 | Meteor Mike

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 28

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

METEOR MIKE

So, Meteor Mike was created in response to the Space Pirate character posted earlier.  The concept is essentially a Green lantern style space cop.  Instead of a ring, Meteor Mike has a tricked out bracelet/gauntlet that allows Meteor Mike to travel through space and “pick up comets and asteroids and throw them at bad guys or make them explode.”

I really tried hard to give the character some Kirby styling esp. with the underpants over the tights look.

#19 Mr. Earworm

| November 28, 2012 | 1 Comment

#19 Mr. Earworm

Auditory Innundation. That’s what they call it. And it’s Mr. Earworm’s specialty.

Basically, what ever music he’s listening to? It bangs around in his head, goes through a couple of filters until it becomes a nightmarish cacophony he can project it into the heads of others at whatever volume & intensity he wants. This makes the cassette in his walkman a mixtape of sheer terror. On it are such hits as:

WHERE HAVE ALL THE COWBOYS GONE
Paula Cole

BUTTERFLY
Crazytown

MACARENA
Los Del Rio

KISS ME
Sixpence None the Richer

IRIS
The Goo Goo Dolls

ALL STAR
Smash Mouth

HOW BIZARRE
OMC

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?
Baha Men

And Many More

… all of which he can use as a weapon, torturing victims for leverage or driving them to insanity or even suicide.

Word has it, he got his start a morning zoo crew DJ, when a falling out with the station manager lead him to fall precariously onto a satellite dish. In a thunderstorm. During solar flares.

Now he’s got a bone to pick with society.

—-

This was a sudden idea that came together pretty quickly, & I like the outcome. I’d imagine he’d probably be a villain in the same universe as the Annunciator. First, let me state that any resemblance to a certain character actor was at first unintentional (I was originally basing him on another actor entirely), but as the drawing progressed, it seemed to just make sense & didn’t shy away from the likeness either. That guy pulls good faces & his more manic/maniacal roles suit what I was going for with this guy in a way that felt really right. Secondly, it’s probably terrible of me, but if you were to ask me what superpower I’d want, this would be immediately behind telekinesis & teleportation. I probably wouldn’t want to drive people to the lengths of this character, but I listen to some annoying stuff & the idea of projecting that annoying music into the brain of some jerk that cut me off? I don’t know, I think that’d be pretty cool.

Some song’s come from the Aziz Ansari bit about the World’s Worst Mixtape.

Also, I hate the term “Earworm.” This is the first & last time I will ever say it.

#27 Migtal

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

Real name: Damon Townsend

Height: As Damon, he’s 5’4 and  as Migtal, 6’0 Weight: 227 lbs.

Age:17(Damon),Unknown(Migtal)  Race:African-American(As Damon)

Location: New York, NY

Migtal(Mig is short for Mighty and Tal is short for Mortal) is my unique take on Captain Marvel/Shazam.

Damon is your typical teenager who has the power to become Migtal,  the world’s mightiest being on earth. He has the powers of all the Olympic gods. He calls upon a particular god’s name and he uses his power. For example, he can call on the strength of Atlas by calling his name out loud.

Powers: The power of the gods at his disposal.

Personality: Confident, self-aware.

#27 Blue Magnetic Night

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

Blue Magnetic Night, she’s the perfect Joan of Arc figure except for one thing- malfunctioning armor. Greavus, the blacksmith, forgot to use her special kind of metal.

Blue Magnetic Night says, ” I unify in order to Dream, attracting Intuition. I seal the input of abundance with the magnetic tone of purpose.”

Day 27: 21st CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS PRESENTS: THE NEXT KIND’S SALDAHEEM

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

21st CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS PRESENTS

A DAN NOKES HAPPENING…

THE 30 CHARACTERS IN 30 DAYS CHALLENGE

DAY 27: SALDAHEEM

Character Biography:  On the far off planet of Jorhol lies a race known as  Frahl Hadeid.  In their language meaning, people of the land.  They were a simple people whose biological makeup was made of living organic metal.  They took their sustenance from minerals found in the earth, and thus built a sort of mining based society.  Their technology and society were on the verge of being space faring when they were invaded by mankind, approximately 1 million years in the future.  These descendants of Earth nearly exterminated the Frahl Hadeid or as they labled them The Frahl Wraiths.  The few survivors retreated underground and did their best to survive.  But even under the surface they were still being persued by the human invaders.  So the Frahl went deep into the planet and hibernated for almost 2 million years.

A major tectonic shift occurred 10,000 years from present date and awoke the Frahl.  They ventured to the surface to find that mankind had taken over the planet, evolved and were unrecognizable from when they first invaded their world.  The Frahl began to rebuild their civilization for the one intent purpose of retaking their homeworld from the invaders.  They became war like over the next 100 centuries, their hatred of the offshoots of men increasing to fanatic proportions, until finally they rose up to the surface world in a wave of blood and iron.  They first took the city state of Kortha in the Nation of Norlympia.  They were led by the war council leader Saldaheem.

Saldaheem is ruthless, cunning and efficient, the perfect military commander in every way.  He sees the SOFT FLESH, as his kind has named the organics as a lesser race that infected his world like a plague.  That it is his solemn mission to wipe them out and return his world to its rightful superior owners.  He will not stop until this goal is achieved.

2012 – DAY 27

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

TIGERBOY

Raised in the Jungle buy a tribe of natives and sentient tigers, Tigerboy is the recipient of a a amgic amulet and armor that gives him superhuman tiger-based powers.  The armor used to be a whole, intricate suit of armor made from mystic materials, but after centuries and misuse by a previous recipient, the armor is only in pieces. The only piece he is able to wear, as he is a boy, is a small section that fits on his arm (again, a one-armed armor motif that we both seem to appreciate).  Tigerboy is learning to use his powers and as he grows so to will his abilities and his ability to wear more armor.  Tigerboy fights evil in the jungles and offshoots tribes and monsters who are trying to destroy the talking tigers and the clan of magicians determined to protect them and the jungle itself.
