#4 Rocket Billy Mechanized ExoSuit Mk. “Deuce
The Naval ExoSuit Defense Squadron has had a long (albeit mostly secret) career. Fending off alien invasion forces & stomping evil machinations developed by evil scientists, their three-story-tall battle mechs were often the first & last line of defense since the end of World War II. But in this day & age of cutbacks & fiscal belt-tightening, there was just no way the US Government could feasibly foot the titanic cost alone. Enter the “edgy organic fast food” chain Rocket Burger (a subsidiary of the Scrimm Group). After ponying up 150% of the squad’s annual operation budget, the company was now calling the shots. The last three remaining Mk I ExoSuits were given new Rocket Burger paint jobs, with the corporate mascot, Rocket Billy & his trusty jet pack emblazoned on their carbon fiber chestplates. Veteran pilot Lt. Chance Murphy couldn’t help but feel like a complete shill. But at least he was still piloting.
And then Jakarta happened. Members of the squad still don’t like talking about the incident, or the hellish volcano beasts from deep with in the Earth’s Mantle that they had to face that day. In the end, Chance was the last pilot standing (with one KIA, while the other, struggling with a severe case of PTSD, may never be mentally able to pilot again), his ExoSuit torn limb from limb. Though the day was barely saved, the future of the squad once again looked uncertain. That was until Rocket Burger came back with another, bigger check.
Using whatever scraps they could, the crew combined the working elements of the three demolished suits into a single, new & improved unit, all tucked into a Rocket Burger-approved chassis. “Rocket Billy,” standing at roughly 18ft & shaped to the exact proportions, is the spitting, robotic visage of the fast food chain’s mascot. Equipped with two rockets made from the parts of old Titan warheads, he can even fly through use of his working jetpack. Carrying a concealed weapons payload tucked away in various parts of his body, Rocket Billy can tackle pretty much any threat quite handily. But the atomic rays tucked into his each palms are usually enough. The execs have taken to calling him the Mk. Deuce, as a matter of cross promotion synergy after the Deuce, Rocket Burger’s special variant of the double cheeseburger.
But, at the end of the day, Lt. Chance Murphy, the last remaining exopilot, didn’t sign up to play the role of corporate mascot. Jaded by having to fly the world over, opening a brand new Rocket Burger location almost daily, he feels like he’s gone from shill to complete corporate goon. “At least you’re still piloting. At least you’re still piloting.” He mantras, before hitting the coupon cannon that fires a shower of buy one, get one free vouchers to a greedy, overly-enthusiastic crowd. He bides his time until the next global threat.

I’m kind of obsessed with the idea of how corporations would operate in a superhero comic world, so that’s where the kernel of this idea started. Endorsing superheroes & funding things like this just as a means of advertising & promotion doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility. I mean they’ll rename historic sports stadiums like it’s nothing. I think the look came from the continuity of the Big Guy & Rusty cartoon & the idea of combining the two. Ultimately, I think I opted too rockabilly hipster versus atomic age robot. Figured he’d be scuffed up & battle damaged some too from previous scuffles, but I might’ve over done it. The flight crew member is there just to give an idea of scale. I like how the tailcode came out. Figured it would probably have to have something like that.
More soon. Getting really good feedback & a lot of kind words. I really appreciate it!
#2: Auto-Tune
The secret alter-ego of the villanous Auto-Tune is none other than the saccharine sweet teen celebrity Polly Popp!
The starring role on a long-time children’s television show wasn’t enough for Polly, nor were her teen fashion, make-up, or perfume lines. No, what Polly Popp REALLY wanted to do was be on the radio.
The only problem…she couldn’t carry a tune if it had straps!
After exhausting all possible options, her manager hooked Polly up with a revolutionary new prototype…a sentient auto-tuning device that could turn ANYONE into an amazing singer. Unfortunately, once the device bonded with Polly, it didn’t want to let go.
Now, Auto-Tune is in control…armed with 30,000 watt audio-cannons pumping out vicious, over-produced pop riffs, no one is safe from noise pollution.
Creator’s Note: Auto-Tune was created to be the natural nemesis of Boombox, created by Matt Zolman in a past #30characters challenge. Â Sooner or later, she’ll show up in the pages of EPIC!Â
#1 Mister Infinity
Mister Infinity is the by-product of genetic manipulation by a madman scientist who experimented on him as a baby. Bombarding him with a mixture of chemicals and radiation that manifested into superpowers upon reaching puberty.
I like the idea of Mister I also because he has a beard and there just aren’t that many super characters that have beards (D Man, Thor… I can’t think of any others off the top of my head) so whilst he has the traditional super costume he also doesn’t quite fit the normal clean cut image. Also as with any of my characters he drinks coffee and lots of it!!!
8 – Black Sparrow
Japan, more than any other nation, has gone in for cybernetics in its security forces, and there are many combat enhanced cybernetically enhanced humans in the police, military and paramilitary. Â During the 90’s their most successful of these agents has a woman who codename was the “Sparrow”, who boasted not only top of the line prosthetics, but a genuine gift for this kind of work. Â In early 2003 she took part in a mission against a cybernetic terrorist cell who were hours away from destroying half of Asia using Biological weapons. Â She was successful, and the plot was not only thwarted, but the cell and all its leaders were killed. Â Unfortunately, so was she, and while her body was initially recovered, her human brain had taken far too much damage and she was declared dead.
However, her mechanical body was unharmed, and it was stolen from a government facility 2 weeks later during the autospy. Â Subsequently, whoever took the body seems to have installed an AI in it, and the body of the hero formerly known as Sparrow is now referred to as Black Sparrow – an incredibly dangerous assassin and terrorist for hire. Â No one is clear who took the body, but whoever it was will be dangerous, as they are presumably guarded by effectively one of the most dangerous combatant of recent memory.
006 – Frida Zachrisson
Another friend and supporter of Michelle, but in the dark about her new work and her powers. Â On the other hand, Frida is a big fan of her superhero persona.
005 – Tomas Sikorski
A very good friend of Michelle and very smart man. Â He’s currently enrolled at a community college while working at an electronic store, trying to make his own path and future.
Day 5: Cage Match
Shapeshifting synthetic being, only able to take the form of characters portrayed by Nicolas Cage. Powers unlocked through phrases such as “Not the bees!”, “Put…the bunny….back…in the box.”, or “I can eat a peach for hours.”
# 3 Ditto
Ditto is a mysterious character who operates on the fringe of the law. He has allegedly been seen at the scene of several jewel robberies and witnesses swear that he is able to split into two or more versions of himself and in some cases appearing behind a guard that had the drop on him and knocking the guard unconscious.
#2 Behemoth
Behemoth was born a mutant weighing in at seven foot six and near 500 pounds. highly recruited by Kristy Kelly who put together C.H.A.M.P.S and the Awesome 5!, Behemoth shunned the superhero spotlight and in fact tried procedures to reduce his stature which ironically made him stronger and turned his skin blue.
#1 Krank
Krank was just an average career criminal until he agreed to take part in an experiment because he was low on cash. What he was transformed into was a rampaging maniac with an addiction to pure electricity. Every few hours he must connect to a battery charger to renew his life force giving him superhuman strength for a short time.
#3 Sable
Interdimensional crime never stops – nor does Sable.
A reject of a late-night brainstorm of silver-age Marvel writers, Sable still proudly wears his Marvel boots, even though he’s been totally forgotten. To this day he still totes his calligraphy brush, ink stick and water pouch, though his back complains more and more. Sable can summon an interdimensional portal with just the swash of his oversized brush, allowing him to travel where and whenever he likes so he can practice his Chinese character drills in peace.
Please note that he hates it when people mistake his expensive, giant calligraphy brush for an everyday mop. It is NOT a mop.

#5 Well ‘o’ Ink
Originally I thought of Marvel’s Shaper of Worlds, then a sort of Oracle character from DC Comics, but now I think he’s more of a neutral character who writes the texts of the world! – Like The Watcher!
2013 Post#5 — El Gato
Wilcox Post#5 — El Gato
El Gato(Spanish = “The Cat”) is a Latino super hero. His costume is armored and allows its wearer the strength of 5 men.
#7 – The Briar Knight
The Briar Knight is a series of men and women throughout the ages, all who have wielded a blade known as the Briar-thorn. Â The blade grants the wielder near invulnerability, immunity to poison, disease, no need to breathe and immense strength and more worryingly, seriously affecting the perception of the world for the wielder.
After the death of the previous Briar Knight, the blade evaporates from the hands of the wielder and has been unable to be contained. Â It then seemingly finds its way to a random person in the world who is in danger at that moment where it appears as a small knife with which to defend themselves. Â From there on, every death the blade causes causes it to grow slightly as it absorbs the blood of the slain, and the greater the size, the more entwined with a being it becomes, and more influence it has on them. Â The problem is the way the blade expresses itself is to send the new Briar Knight on quests, but unfortunately the standards by which it does so are very medieval in their attitudes – it will take an objective and the Knight will end up slaying anyone who gets in his path. Â General public advice on a Briar Knight coming through an area is a broad evacuation.
The current Briar Knight seems marginally less Bloodthristy than the last, and also more cunning, but his greater success is reflected in the sword reaching the largest size of any Briar-thorn incarnation on record. Â Due to the practical indestructibility and devastation caused by Briar Knights, several have been killed by bearers of the Divine Rod, who in doing so became unworthy of their own weapon.
Day 4: Zooey
I’m a huge fan of Lorna and I’ve always hoped there could be another “jungle girl” type comic out again. Zooey, is a play on the word zoology as she’s here to protect the animals and the environment. She has no super powers normally, but the animals gifted her this special necklace that has bones from fallen animals. When she puts on the necklace she gains the powers of these animals.
#4 Lady Savior
To round out the hero I posted for the first day a bit, here’s Lady Savior who was the first hero to come up. She started out basically just helping people out in different ways, like saving them from buses and helping them carry things to their cars but then villains rose up pretty much because they didn’t like this so she became a basic superhero ever since.
004 – Michelle Nguyen
She found a new purpose in her life when she developed superpowers. Â Now she’s a superhero-in-training looking ways to balance her new life with her current.
#2 Rose Plumeria
After moving to Japan to teach English, Rose soon discovered that she could command the lifeforce of flowers at will—thrive or die, blossom or wilt, all a the blink of an eye. Her talents made her a huge celebrity in Japan and her presence has rocked the world of competitive ikebana to its very core. But, as a wise poet once sang, every rose has its thorn, and our Rose harbors her own terrible secrets…

#4 – Elias Winston: The Revolutionist
Elias Winston is a man from the year 2103 who has returned to the present to instill his values on the present to hasted the creation of the world he lives in. Â It just so happens that he isn’t the only one who that sentence applies to. Â Time Travel is a bit of a strange thing, yet compared to inter dimensional travel it is very easy, however because various futures can come about from one present, you can end up with a case like that of the two Elias Winstons. Â They both traveled back in time to our present, which is a past they share.
Elias Winston (aka The Revolutionist) is the World Leader of Future Timeline designate AF6-0093925-2103, commonly referred to as “The Commune” – in this timeline run away Capitalism was rampant leading to massive wealth disparity into which young Elias Winston was born. Â There is some suggestion that his bloodline may have something to do with the Order of Solomon (see Samuel Bonaparte Khan) but most believe he was purely just a perfect storm of genetics and upbringing that made him an unparalleled talent in technology, leadership and genetics. Â After a starting and winning a revolution over 16 years, he decided to travel back into the past to instill his perfect world order back when the Mega-Corporations were taking route. Â Fortunately despite his prodigious talents have been held back by another time traveler: The Futurist – Elias Winston, the World Leader of Timeline BZ2-0002346-2103, whose own desire to travel to the past and change the past to match his Capitalistic Corporation-State based World directly opposes the future of the Revolutionist, and thus fortunately, the great fighters of the world have not had to deal with his full intellect…
The Futurist is an expert in cybernetics, advanced energy sources and weapons, espionage and guerilla warfare.  He quickly established a power-base in poor, financially frustrated countries which didn’t have a problem harbouring  Time-travelling Terrorists and is believed to be behind other terrorist groups in secret.  He has also amassed a substantial terrorist network, but due to various military assaults by the troops of the Futurist, he has been unable to make broader assaults on other corporations and states.
Nos. 01 and 02: THE WHALE and THE PUTTY
My first two entries; I’ve got two more waiting to be colored, so I should be caught up by tonight. I’m posting them over on my art Tumblr, Calamity Jon Comics & Art
Shadow Flower
Shadow Flower- it’s a nice name at first- until you realize this flower kills! Shadow Flower is an assassin who moves through the darkest shadows. Between alleys, under houses and buildings, long hallways, behind doors and in closests-any dark and shadowy place is a place her to hide and strike from. But she can do more- Shadow Flower can project a solid shadow to do her hands-on dirty work for her. This projection is a monstrous form of her inner self and strikes without mercy- and without evidence!
#1 Scribe
Scribe is a clairvoyant who controls fate, life and death, with the stroke of a quill. She can pull as many quills as she needs from the back of her cloak or her headpiece, and in lieu of parchment, she spins her words on an unending, magical scroll. Â Her own fate is marked on her hands and body, but she’s too afraid to read it – hence she covers her hands and body in a loose, flowing cloak to conceal it. But sometimes even she can’t resist taking a peek at what’s in store for her future.
#30Characters Chatter…
