#5 Hi-Q

Marisol Concepcion Ito was born at Wedge Donovan Hospital at  Torii Station base in Japan.Doctors at the hospital were conducting research into creating a super-soldier through injections of an experimental compound, and selected the newborn Marisol for testing.Years later she developed incredible mental faculties that have allowed her to become one of the most brilliant scientists in history at the age of 25. Just over a month ago she discovered that she had been part of the control group. Her nickname Hi-Q comes from her naturally high intelligence and love of  the Haiku form of poetry.(A hobby she learned from her grandmother.)

#5: Simoom

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Real Name: Muthemba Bello
Age: 30
Birthplace: Kenya
Powers: Able to conjure up powerful dust storms for protection and defense

Character info: Simoom is another character whose name I came up with years ago, but never really designed until I sat down recently. Initially, I had him pegged as a hero, but as I started to draw him, he clearly had a sinister look about him and became a villain. His ability to create the dust storms are effective in disorienting and temporarily blinding his enemies, allowing him the opportunity to strike!

#5 – Daniel Hwang

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Daniel Hwang. 25, Korean-Polish-American, Kenna’s brother. Daniel is a kangshinmu – a shaman in the practice of traditional Korean folk magic, Muism. If Kenna had to work for every scrap of power she has, it came naturally to Daniel. He underwent the ordination ceremony at a young age and experienced his first full possession not long after that. He’s always been more deeply spiritual than his sister, but he suffers more from insecurity as well. He doesn’t know himself as well as she does, and he doesn’t trust himself the way he needs to.  He’s less creative than she is, less adaptable, more rigid and calculating, but more sensitive as well. He also has a bitter streak of vanity he struggles to control.

#5 – Sparkplug (the Motor Teen)

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

As mentioned in my previous posts, the first five characters I’m creating are all based on me, so, collectively, they are called, “The Vitos.” This is the last of them.

All of the Vitos had an explanation to them, a reason or trait that they were based on. For the life of me, I can’t remember what made me want to create Sparkplug. Thank goodness I saved the chat log for the conversation I had with Michelle, my wife:

Michelle: the last one is always the hardest
 your very determined / driven
me: hmmm
Michelle: how bout that?
me: it’s good
now to build a character around that
Michelle: hmmm, let me think…
they have to never give up
me: the little engine
Michelle: lol
 yep
 non-stop
me: wait
motor is another name for an engine
Michelle: yep
me: so, how about Motor Man?
 Motor Boy
 ?
 Motor Lad?
Michelle: i like man
i wanted one teenager
 like a sidekick type
Michelle: k, lad
me: Ha!
 Motor Teen

After that, I took to Twitter and asked for another name for “motor.” In my head, Motor Teen sounded too much like Motormouth or Motorhead (not that there’s anything wrong with those). Paul Montgomery (aka FuzzyTypewriter in this challenge) gave me Sparkplug. And there you have it.

Now, I haven’t really given his origin much thought. I know he’s about 16, he suffers (or is in remission) from cancer, and he never gave up hope that he would be out of the hospital, but I don’t know his name, the source of his speed powers, or anything else. So, that’s TBD.

Tomorrow, I turn the tables and give you five characters based on my wife, Michelle!

NOTE: I’m using Hero-O-Matic (aka Fabrica De Herois) to create my characters. Give it a shot!

#5 Plikitt

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Plikitt

First sighting: Three Years Ago

Alias: Unit #23906, Dittobot, The Robotic Mimic, Russ Braverton

Identity: Secret – Du Plikitt

Features: Self-contained automaton, silver skin, biothermal “skin suit” and “clothing armor”

Skills: Shape-shifting, ability to mimic any human (and superhuman) ability, ability to adapt to any situation

Dr. Tiffany Rhonne created the perfect automaton for the military, the Diode-Induced Temporal Technology Operations Bio-Organic Terminal, otherwise known as the “Dittobot”. The military ordered several units, but the template used in the creation was more advanced than she thought it would be. It was sentient, self-aware, and, in a word, human. As such, the creation demanded and got a name. He was the original Dittobot and not a duplicate. He wished to be a duplicate too, so he was named “Du Plikitt.”

The military didn’t know the Dittobots could grow sentient, and they ordered the one that did to be destroyed. Dr. Rhonne refused because she had grown to love Plikitt as a mother loved her child. When a shadowy organization sent an assassin codenamed Atomic Ice to kill Rhonne and destroy the machine, the abilities of Plikitt was exposed. He shapeshifted into Dr. Rhonne and took her place while a spare Dittobot was in a stasis. The assassin killed the disguised Rhonne and destroyed the machine. When the real Dr. Rhonne came out of hiding, she held Plikitt in her arms. They left Steel City and went to a new location where they could became a couple, Molly and Russ Braverton.

Over the years, Plikitt did heroic feats in public in his more familiar metallic form, aligning with many of the heroes of this new world. However, these actions have attracted the attention of a hunter who thought Plikitt was dead in the first place – Atomic Frost.

Plikitt: TM and (C) Jeff Harris dba Studio Lightcount.

#5 – MorningStar by Beausephus

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME: MorningStar

DATE OF CREATION: 1994-ish

CONCEPT: A vigilante who operates by night bringing the huge scythe-like blades attached to his gauntlets to the throats of supernatural creatures brought to life by various underworld and corporate organizations.

_____________________________________

Truth be told, there’s really not much to the back story of Morning Star.  I’m not sure if I ever gave the character a name or identity beyond the visual design and the basic supernatural-hunting methodology.

Moon Knight has always been one of my favorite characters, the basic visual design of the character and his multi-layered back story was really engrossing.  Clearly this design owes a great deal to Moon Knight and, I believe, the Stephen Platt run on the series.

I also must have read the BATMAN: YEAR TWO trade paperback a thousand times or so at that time.  Again, the giant forearm blades are ripped right off of the design of that story’s “villain”, The Reaper.

Instead of fighting “street-level crime” I imagined MorningStar going up against supernatural-meet-scientific creations such as the “Pseudo-Vamps” and artificial zombie-like creatures.  Realistically, could he use such giant, deadly weapons against generic street thugs and still be considered a “hero”?

Also, in retrospect, the various grades of beige and grey don’t do much in terms of dynamic costume design or making a strong visual impact.  Still, I have a soft spot for the character and the odd color scheme.

Thanks for checking out my stuff.

#4 SKELETONIC

Not sure where in my head this came from but it just started evolving and evolving till it got here. HA! I wanted to create a Skeleton Based bad guy that could look like he belonged in our Z-Girl and the 4 Tigers comic book universe. I wanted him to be a fully mobile character but not just a skeleton walking around. So by making his liquid body case transparent we get to see the skeleton clearly. Yet he has weight and substance making him more threatening, but without muscle mass that would obviously cover the skeleton.

Byron Snow was not happy.

He was far from it, actually.

You would think that someone who spends his life sleeping, partying and indulging in any excess his mind could think of in equal ways, a man who would never have to worry about money for as long as he lived, would not have to deal with such things as unhappiness.

Yet he did.

He did because the reason for his unhappiness relentlessly followed him wherever he went. It stared at him at any club he went. It brought him his supper, he could see them even from his penthouse apartment, far above the city, aimlessly loitering like the mindless cattle they all were.

Humans were his problem.

Humans were the reason of his unhappiness.

300 years ago, back when he was “born” into his new life, he and his kind would have no issue with rampaging through villages burning everything in sight, openly feeding under the moonlight, enjoying from the warm sustenance as well as from the fear saturating the atmosphere. But those halcyon days were long gone. Quietly bowing their heads and blending in with the meat was now the name of the game. Both The Council and The Covenant had agreed to this. In this new era of enlightenment and widespread information, acting in such an open manner would only invite more attention than the one they already got from The Huntsmen, and that was more than enough attention already.

So they blended in.

Most of them finally made use of their vast fortunes, amassed through centuries of never needing a single dime, spending it in every possible thing they could conceive off in order to chase boredom and hunger away.

Reaving was unanimously outlawed by The Council, the decision enforced by The Covenant. Anyone found reaving, no matter how careful or privately they did so, would be executed on the spot. No exceptions.

And so, Byron Snow hid. And lived. And was unhappy.

He was unhappy while a once proud and mighty race cowered under the numerical superiority of the meat. While their legend was forgotten, the terror they once instilled in the hearts of men and children alike lost to the passage of time. He saw as the meat made fools out of them, turning them into parodies of their former selves, little more than fodder for the romantic delusions of teen-aged girls, spinsters and unsatisfied housewives.

And the worst part was that every day, every month, every year he kept on feeding but not nurturing himself, he cared a little less about all of those things that should have continued to fuel his righteous indignation. He was growing fat and complacent.

He had to do something about it.

The first night he went out there was yet to be a costume. He had honestly convinced himself it would be a one time thing. Something to sate his thirst and be done with it. He knew it had to be someone who wouldn’t be missed. Someone you’d already expect to found splattered across the walls and floor of a dirty alley. When he heard the woman scream, he knew that was it. Even as weakened as it was, his body did most of the work for him without his even realizing.

The woman in itself was of little interest. Who cared what had happened to her? She was nothing but an enabler. By being the victim, she allowed him to come at him in any way he damn pleased. He was the real star of the show.

His original thought had been to just take things slow and enjoy it as much as possible in order to get the most out of it, considering this was gonna be a one-time thing. Even when the first warm jet started gushing, he innocently still believed this. But it had been so long since he had last reaved. The sensation, the rush, the excitement, the frenzy.

It completely took over him. How could they have stopped doing this?

How could they keep denying themselves something that was so unequivocally theirs?

It was wrong in so many fundamental levels. He knew it all the way inside of him, as he felt his body getting stronger, already demanding more sustenance.

He would need to disguise himself. No need to attract the attention of The Covenant. And already the humans had this long standing tradition of dressing in gaudy outfits and beating the living hell out of each other. And certainly no one would miss a few dead robbers or rapists. Nor the police would dig to deep when they found their broken, maimed and dry remains. They simply had it coming.

Byron Snow smiled.

He was happy for the first time in a long time. Happy that he had finally found a way of being himself once again out in the open, were his kind truly belonged.

Out there in the night.

#4 Lauren Bishop – Housewife

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Probably the most annoying thing about my husband’s work is the stains he brings home. They’re awful. Every night he goes out and prowls through the dark alleyways, hunting down evil with fighting prowess and finely honed deductive skills, but for some reason he can’t seem to stop himself from stepping in every pool of filth and slime on the streets.

And the blood, don’t get me started on the blood. It gets everywhere, into every single seam, and no detergent can take that out. Believe me, I’ve tried. But I’ll let you in on my little secret. Add a half-cup of salt to the wash. I don’t know how it works but it does. Busts those bloodstains right out. It also makes sure the colors don’t wash, which I think is really important. After all, nobody would be terrified of the Dingy Black Knight.

There are worse things than the blood though. Because he punches those crooks really hard sometimes other things get stuck on the clothes too. I’ve found so many teeth that if the Tooth Fairy were real, then I could buy a Hawaiian beach house with the money I make trading them in.

Did you know that you can machine-wash Kevlar? It has to be specially treated with solvents and than scrubbed by hand. And it’s not like I can send it out to be serviced. I’m sure that’d raise some questions at the cleaners. It takes a lot of elbow grease let me tell you. I have forearms like a longshoreman. And what it does to my skin? Forget about it. The girls down at the beauty shop think that I have the worst case eczema. It’s so embarrassing that I’ve started wearing gloves out and about just to avoid the stares.

I knew that when I married a super-hero, I’d be taking my life into my hands. The city is full of criminals and freaks that would love nothing more that to use me against him, but I never thought that I would be more intimidated by an overflowing hamper of sweaty uniforms than of being dangled over a tank of radioactive piranhas.

#4: Sliver

# 4 : Sliver

A mysterious and dangerous hunter, the enigmatic mercenary called Sliver.

Sliver was once a man who lost his arm in an archaeological site digging out a Medieval armory. Though lacking an arm, he managed to procure a strange gauntlet. This gauntlet, unbeknownst to him ,was one piece of a complete suit of enchanted armor  of an ancient warlord that, legend has it, possessed a mind of its own.  This gauntlet possessed the man and overtook his will to become the Hunter known as Sliver,  whose only goal is to procure the remaining pieces of his Cursed Armor so that it can be whole again. He is currently in possession of at least two known components of the Cursed Armor, the Right Gauntlet and the Helm,  which was taken from the Smitsonian and the cloak from the Field Museum.

While the Armor thefts are a concern, its the fact that whenever Sliver comes to to collect or follow a lead on a Cursed Armor piece, he leaves behind a trail of bodies in his wake, which makes Sliver a Most Wanted Superhuman in all law enforcement and federal government agencies. Sliver is also wanted as a top assassin due to his relentless pursuit of becoming complete, neither any opposition or reasoning will stop Sliver from achieving his goals.

Abilities: The Cursed Arm possesses metamorphic properties that encases its host in a metallic coating that protects the user from almost any known weapon. The hand is capable of extending its fingers into impossible lengths and are capable of transforming into various weapons, such as swords, spears, and hooks, for use in combat and defense, as pieces of the armor are capable of projecting spikes out of its exposed plating. The Cursed Helm is another addition that essential suppresses the host’s identity and becomes its own entity, while providing the main means of speech and info in his search for his missing Armor. The Helmet also possesses the same metamorphic properties as the Arm. Sliver wears a kevlar woven bodysuit and the remnants of its previous wielders cloak.

Creation Notes: This character was inspired from me looking at a book on the Art of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy at a Barnes & Noble and saw a helmet from a list of concept sketches for Sauron, and this character stems from that one picture, while taking a nod from Witchblade regarding the weapon arm. The look and style changed throughout high school and I felt it was best to showcase this character. The pose is also based off a previous drawing of Sliver as that was my favorite pose for the character.

#4 Vienna

Picture from public-domain-photos.com

I’m finally caught up. Lad and Vienna are the first two characters that exist in the same universe, and will probably be the only ones. I’d just like to warn that Vienna’s character is a little silly, at least when it comes to her powers.

Character Summary: A young superheroine who wants nothing more than to be normal. After being the subject of a mad science experiment, she found herself with incredible superpowers—as well as a new arch-enemy.

Full Name: Vienna Marie Martinez

Age: 25

Birth Date: May 12th, 1986

Birthplace: Fairpalm, Arizona, USA

Current Residence: Sentinel City, USA

Occupation: Shoe Saleswoman at Pretty in Pumps

Family

  • Nestor Martinez (Father)
  • Sofia Martinez (Mother)
  • Kia Martinez (Younger Sister)

Hair Color: Black

Eye Color: Green

Race/Nationality: American

Other: She has extraordinarily curly hair that’s at times unmanageable. Alongside that on her list of unmanageable things is her “meltdown” cycle: every now and then, she’ll begin to melt, just the same as a popsicle would on a hot day. This her body’s way of reacting to the chemicals used in the experiment.

#4 Whisper

#4 Whisper

Whisper dreamed of being left alone.  She knew many people said as much themselves, but she also knew that mostly they were exaggerating.  Most people really had an inner need for some sort of communication, some sort of connection to be made with another soul.

For herself, she was tired of it.  It wasn’t that she didn’t crave company.  It was just that no one could just be company around her.  It wasn’t any fault of theirs.  It wasn’t even her fault.  She could lay the blame at one soul’s feet, and she’d already killed him.  Strangled him with his damned stethoscope.  Now she just wanted to be alone.

Except, of course, for the fact that she couldn’t exactly survive on her own.  The bastard that had enhanced certain features, like her pheromonal output, hadn’t seen fit to enhance her in any way that helped with wilderness survival.  Sure she was stronger.  She could keep going and going just like that little pink bunny, without the need for rest, stop, sleep or food.  Her endurance as off the charts but she guessed that good ‘ol doc frankenfurter had had other uses for that in mind, because she couldn’t see it doing more than expanding her life expectancy by a few days out in the wild blue yonder.

She was supposed to have been the perfect honey-trap.  She was supposed to have been irresistible with little to no effort on her part.  She was supposed to be capable of “rendering” her targets incapable of defending themselves.  The doc had high ambitions.  Except the doc got careless with her.  He’d thought her properly “trained.”  He’d thought that his mind games had broken her.  He’d basically totally underestimated her.  And it was Whisper’s personal goal in life to enlighten those who underestimated her.

At least she’d like to think it was.  She didn’t actually know much of anything about herself anymore.  Sure, she had specific personality traits, likes and dislikes, turn-ons and turnoffs, but she had no idea why she had them.  She couldn’t remember much of anything from before the “procedures.”  It wasn’t like she couldn’t remember anything at all, it was more like all of her memories had lost specificity.  She had no names, no faces to pin on to vague watercolor images of moments from before.

Not that she was sure she really wanted to try to go back there.  She wasn’t that… whoever she had been.  And there was no possibility for a warm family reunion, what with her dad most likely popping a boner as soon as he got within smelling distance of her.  She shuddered just thinking about it.  She’d already had one too many moments with good-hearted men mortified at their bodies’ uncontrollable reactions towards her.  She could picture exactly what dear old dad’s trauma would look like.

Hence the wanting to be alone.  But since she had not the skills, she guessed she’d stick around the city, keeping to herself and cleaning empty office buildings at three o’clock in the morning for a living.  She would remind herself of what her mom had always said, that it beat sucking dick on a street corner.  In truth, she had no idea what kinds of things her mom actually said, and it didn’t seem like a wholesome mom would say such things, but she liked to pretend her mom was some kind of badass shoot-from-the-hip mom.

Whisper kept to her routine, and sank into the closest to normal she could pretend to be.  But she could feel something in her bones.  Like someone was watching her, or something was about to happen.  She couldn’t say why, but she kept looking for the high vantage points, expecting at some point to see the glint of a scope aimed in her direction.  And why the hell she thought she knew what that looked like, she had no idea.

DAY 4: MIRACLE

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

In 1933, a strange meteorite crash landed to earth.  When scientists and experts arrived and investigated the scene they found that the meterorite was actually some sort of probe from another world, that contained alien DNA, and artifacts, some could not be deciphered.  A top secret think tank was formed to investigate the probe and its contents.  One arm of that organization was called PROJECT OLYMPUS.  There task was to see if the genetic material could be harnessed and somehow used to create some form of enhanced human being.  100 persons were selected based on preliminary research, that found that those of certain markers may be receptive to the formula they had developed.  Of the 100 persons tested, all but one died in the process.  The one survivor, Derek McClean, emerged with almost godlike abilities.  He was dubed MIRACLE by the military, and was revealed to the public in 1935.  He, over time banded together with other heroes of the era to form THE ALLIANCE, and eventually became there defacto leader in 1946.  In 1953 the groups roster at the time disapeared on a deep space mission, and did not remerge until 2001… Now Miracle has filled a role as the super-hero communities elder statesman, and almost patron saint. A role he does not take lightly…

#4-The Prick

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

The hero of Verde City, Peter Pelt was part of the high society of the city, who saw what had become of it since his parents time. They have long since passed, peacefully in their sleep but he remains disgusted by it’s crime and devastation. One day though, his uncle had been reported shot and killed in the slums by drug lord Jet Disco. His Uncle, a cop of 20 years, who did nothing but his best to help the city. He had spent a lot of time of time with him growing up, any day his Uncle was off he went to see Peter. Enraged, he set out to end the crime of the city once and for all. He brought in a friend, George Jones, a former marine, and with his skills and Peter’s money, they set out to end crime vigilante style.

He never could think of a proper name for himself though. He was attacking low-level dealers and shutting down meth labs, and all the time he had nothing to say. The bad guys did of course though, frequently he was frequently called “that Prick.” With no inspiration otherwise, and no real way to stop them from saying it, he turned it against them, adding a little horn to the top of his head. A little vulgar yes, but effective.

Yeah, I don’t know why, but I always thought that would be a fun name for a Batman-style vigilante. Wish I had something more original for back story and I did. I am kinda introducing this concept ass-backwards, but it’ll be clear eventually.

Day # 4 Candice “Bar-Star” McKenzie

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Candice is by definition a party girl. She always knows when and where the next big bash is going to be, and has been dubbed bar-star by all of her friends. She’s not nessisarily shallow, but she doesn’t understand why some people judge her lifestyles. She figures as long as she’s having fun and nothing catches up with her she’ll be fine. She’s actually very familiar with the local super-hero league because she is constantly being victimized by the local villians; who she is also on a first name basis with. Why she’s so prone to kidnapping, robbery, hostage situations, and just general mayhem no one acutally knows, but she takes it in stride. Nothing every stops this party girl, although the superhero’s guild has fitted most of her favourite party outfits with GPS trackers, just in case.

Universe/Storyline: The Band

This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.

Appearance detail: Always has at least part of her face hidden in shadow. Sometimes the shadow stretches across her eyes like a mask.

Attire: A long, worn out dress in faded gray, black, and purple. Accessorized with a skull pendant choker and, sometimes, thin arm warmers or fingerless gloves that extend to the elbow and black and white pearl bracelets.  (Subject to change, but always in the same theme.)

Superpowers: Illusionary Projection, Conscious and Subconscious (primary)- Amelia can alter the appearance of anything within her range of vision, making objects seem to appear and disappear or change in shape, size, color, etc. However, the objects (or lack thereof) do not physically change in reality, for they are only an illusion, and these illusions can be discovered to be so when someone tries to interact with or physically touch them. Amelia is constantly using her power to hide her identity by casting shadows over parts of her face. She never looks exactly the same twice. No one can ever really be sure what she actually looks like. The subconscious consequence of her power is that Amelia sometimes ‘receives’ illusions in the form of visions from people around her with highly active subconscious minds. This means that if she is sleeping near someone sleeping, she participates in their dreams (and nightmares) as if they were real. Sometimes these visions cause her to feel real pain, and compel her to do things she wouldn’t normally do. She has some conscious control of this power when she is awake, allowing her to see the dreams of people sleeping nearby.

Necromancy, Subconscious- When Amelia becomes extremely upset, the dead rise from beneath her feet to punish the living until she is calmed. She has little control over them, but they do not attack her.

Personality: She is the opposite of Camille when it comes to trust. Any newcomer is a threat until proven innocent. But, once you earn her trust, she will do anything for you. She is defensive emotionally and doesn’t often tell people how she is feeling. She keeps secrets, especially about her past. She is not totally dreary, however. Once she finds love with Walter Chen (below) she becomes quite pleasant, even fun, and lets her more quirky side show through. She is still distrusting of outsiders, but works well with her teammates.

Power Source/Backstory:

a.      Projecting Illusion (wide range, primarily visual, some sound esp. silence)- mysterious background…? Something to do with the foster home she was raised in. She was young, she saw someone die randomly in an accident or from a stroke, etc. She wished she hadn’t seen it and made the body disappear.

b.      Necromancy- Watching Walter’s grandfather dying in a hospital bed, she begins to feel his pain and uncontrollably pulls the plug, hiding the fact with illusion. She instinctively touches the metal filament of the plug. Later, at Walter’s grandfather’s funeral, she raises the dead.

This is Sonica.  My superhero universe doesn’t have a speedster, so i created her.  Not really anything for a background though.
