Day 9 - Danielle Longlegs by George WardDanielle was destain to be a great basketball player or gymnast from a young age except her limbs never stopped growing.  Because of her “deformity” she was given a living wage and free education until she can find her place in the world.  She spends a lot of time walking around the roof tops where she can get privacy and exercise at the same time.  She is considering a career in law enforcement, where her disability might have some use catching criminals.

#9 Black Dragon

The Black Dragon

In the late 13th century the Scottish clans were being crushed under British rule. One proud family: the clan Ruadh, sought to fight back. One young man studied the shaman arts of his ancestors and searched for the lost black dragons of Loch Doughall. Against all odds he found the dragons, and lived amongst them, fighting for his life everyday and trying to harness their power to protect his clan. For years, he gained in strength, changing mentally and physically to match his new family. One day he awoke and the dragons were gone. They had gone hunting, following the shaman’s trail back to his clan, where they slaughtered every man, woman and child. The tragedy shattered the man, breaking his humanity and left him not knowing whether to avenge his clan, or accept the true nature or dragons. Now he lives centuries, with little notion of what to do with his power.

#9 Laura Poeschel

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

Meet Laura Poeschel, daughter of a morgue keeper. She has a very keen interest in linguistics, though she can’t pronounce “r” right. Like her distant cousin of Amets Pessler, she is a psionic. She has the power to communicate with the dead and otherworldly beings. Though mainly she tries talking to the dead people found in the obituaries and her father’s morgue, a certain one-hoofed okapi would go its way into talking with her when she finds herself in trouble.

Then soon after, she would find herself free of her problems and see more dead people around. She wonders a lot about it.

#9 The Singularity

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

At the center of a black hole as described by general relativity lies a gravitational singularity, a region where the spacetime curvature becomes infinite.

The Singularity is meant as a future time when societal, scientific and economic change is so fast we cannot even imagine what will happen from our present perspective, and when humanity will become posthumanity.

These ideas inspired this character.  She is the most powerful being in my universe, with unknown origins, and unknown lineage.  It is believed by some that she is the next step in evolution.

I remember the first time the world was alerted to the presence of a super-powered being. I don’t know why, but I was expecting him to be a good guy, a super hero. No one expected this thing to start tearing apart cities. It would be an understatement to say this thing was a villain.

#9 Muckraker

| November 9, 2011 | 2 Comments

Muckraker is a character that crosses the traditional superhero vigilante with the modern world of social media.

As far as where i got the name muckraker, It’s an old fashioned early 20th century term for a newspaper reporter that handles various issues of the time involving corruption, child abuse, misconduct, etc.

Muckraker’s real name is Manuel Garcia, a known and respected award winning reporter and now editor in chief of a prestigious multimedia newspaper called “The Informer”.  As Muckraker, he uses his abilities as a reporter and has vast knowledge of investigative  methods. He has become an novice in the world of social media and uses that to fully expose all criminals and adversaries.  Known on the streets as a “Messenger against crime”, Muckraker has an in your face style that’s at times intimidating but at times gets him the best  results.

Height: 5’9 weight 200lbs. Age:32 Race: Hispanic(Dominican/Puerto Rican)

Powers:

None, but has hand to hand combat skills and physical endurance. Has semi- automatic pistols located inside of his underarms hidden under his cape that has plastic bullets in them because he doesn’t believe in using weapons.

Personality:

As Muckraker, he has an in your face approach, able to go the distance to solve a case and expose his criminals. Similar to Robert Goren, a character on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Sherlock Holmes.

#9 Lightning Rod

| November 9, 2011 | 2 Comments

Here is my ninth character for this challenge from a project I am working on. Intended to be a tongue-in-cheek twist to the genre, here is Lightning Rod:

Rodney Fasano was all brawn and no brain. Clumsy and awkward in many ways, he loved to exercise and lift weights on the shores of New Jersey. Always stumbling into a fall of some kind, accident proneness was his specialty. Ever the great hope of football and basketball coaches, Rodney always dropped the ball and tripped over his feet. Adding to his accidents was his attitude that got him into extra trouble. Always covering for his clumsiness by agreeing to carry out idiotic dares, Rodney never really knew the joke was on him. Thus, when he was dared to lift the front end of a sedan over his head, he just wouldn’t quit trying until he eventually slipped and fell, dropping the front of the car on top if his head. Crushing his skull and breaking his arms, Rodney had to have metal plates, rods and pins implanted into his body. His luck didn’t run out there. Shortly after leaving the hospital, Rodney was feeling depressed during a rainstorm. To cheer himself up, he decided to go outside and play in the puddles. While jumping into a particularly large and muddy puddle, the lightening in the air was drawn to his inner metal and struck him there in the puddle. His eyes rolled back as the voltage coursed through his body and shot out through the rods in his arms. His hair stood straight up and he pooped himself. He survived and found that his body suffered no damage. His head plate and inner metal had charged with electrons to become a sort of electromagnet. In time, he discovered he could willfully collect and charge electrons in the air even when no storms were present, and then shoot this lightning through his hands. He also discovered that sometimes when he was falling or tripping over something that the jolt off fear from falling would involuntarily cause the lightning to shoot out as well. Thus, Rodney became a liability. He was arrested by super heroes when he innocently blew up a car that he accidentally walked in front of while going to a health pill store. Rather than imprison an innocent man, the heroes took him in and have since been working exhaustedly to help him control his powers and use them for good. Happy to feel like he is helping, Rodney does his best as the electrifying personality known as Lightning Rod (a name he gave himself believing it to be clever).

It is generally accepted that an otherwise unknown variety of the order Arachnida commonly referred to as the Camel Spider or Wind Scorpion was imported into North America from the Persian Gulf.  What is not clearly understood is if the mutant female was bonded with the animal before or after her physical transformation, and the degree of the symbiotic relationship.

08 – СУПЕР ЗВЕЗДА

| November 9, 2011 | 4 Comments

THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #7, Korvus Kain & the Murder Men…

…the Soviet Union and their super powered agents!

America’s revelry in their new super heroes was cut short when it became known that other people, the world over, had begun to display abilities beyond that of normal man.  In clandestine circles, it was also known that the Danaian arrival on Earth was not an event isolated to the wilds of northern Michigan.  The U.S. government’s biggest concern in these unprecedented times lay in the knowledge that unfriendly foreign nations were also fielding their own super powered operatives.  Operatives like the Soviet Union’s СУПЕР ЗВЕЗДА (SUPER STAR)!

Little is known of Super Star before he was transformed into the hero of Russia.  His real name was redacted from records and written over with “The Great Hero Super Star.”  There is some evidence indicating that he was a pilot and cosmonaut destined for a lunar mission that was interrupted, before lift-off, by the arrival of a delegation of Danaians at a remote, undisclosed launch pad somewhere in the Siberian tundra.

This powerhouse of the people is able to convert matter into form of energy that he can project as a weapon, favoring his hands and the star emblem on his chest as projectors, or a thrust for short flights or powerful leaps.  Physical attacks are nearly useless against Super Star as they are converted into energy to fuel his ability.  It is postulated that his initial transformation horribly disfigured this Soviet soldier and destroyed his vocal chords as he is never seen without his helmet and speaks, rarely, in a raspy voice.  Super Star, along and a handful of other powered comrades, works for the Soviet government fighting monstrosities, some human others less so, that began to appear shortly after the arrival of the Danaians.

Super powered soldiers and spies may have escalated the already tense relationship between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. but, as in Russia, empowered menaces on the home front pose a more immediate threat.  The Secret Soldiers have their hands full with threats like…

#9 – Visigoth

9-Visigoth

A hero from ancient times finds himself sent to present day! Visigoth was inspired by an old Marvel Comics ‘What If’ issue where Conan the Barbarian was transported to present day (then the 1970’s.) I read it a long time ago but I thought that idea was pretty interesting and has been stuck in the back of mind for a long time. Enter the LOTR movies for a little more influence — and there you have it. I started roughing his look out for 30Characters last year but time didn’t allow for his appearance. Enjoy!

#9 – Ms. Hart – Warrior, Sorceress, Defender of the Equinox

| November 9, 2011 | 1 Comment

Historical Excerpt: “The Hell Hart, that was what she was called over two hundred years ago. Two centuries ago, no one would have believed she would be tending someone near to death, praying for their recovery. Then, her reputation as a swords-woman, in an age where women did not use a sword was legendary. Her skill with it, impeccable, her dueling record, perfect. After a time, her travels would make her master of many weapons and nearly as many enemies. If you saw her standing over the body of someone, it was to watch the light go out of their eyes in that final darkness.

Driven regularly from her home, partially from her strange, ageless and impertinent nature, partially from the fear and responses her enemies had, she acquired a number of names over the decades.

In civilized lands, she was The Lady Hart or Frau Hart. In places where she was a warlord, she was known as The Red Hart from her standard, a large deer on a red standard. In places where she killed her enemies indiscriminately, she was called The Red Dragon. For a time, she was a revered as a warrior-queen.

Those were different times, her Light, her power kept her outside of Time. Forged of the stuff of cacastrom, the random forces of dark Chaos and bound by illiaster, the stuff of Order, direct by her will, she carried it inside her body. It suffused her bones, wrapped itself inside her skeleton and appeared as both weapon and armor. Her House carried this artifact and different members were able to do different things with it. Few had her strength and mastery. Ever fewer survived. Now, she was the last of her House. And as she knew it, the last of her kind.”

Powers: Her physical strength is equal to that of ten men and her stamina is virtually limitless due to her connection to the Gaia-force bestowed upon her millennia ago. Her power manifests as weapons and armor of any appearance she desires. Proficient in any weapon, she can create constructs that resemble modern or ancient weapons. Having survived battlefields from Rome to World War II, she can use any weapon she finds. In addition to her warrior skills, she can channel magical energy for a variety of effects both offensive an defensive. As an agent of the Equinox, she can utilize powers both Light and Dark and is also able to teach mystic arts to those capable of learning them.

Psychological Profile: Ms. Hart is one of the last Warriors of Light. Her dedication to the protection of the Equinox and to the Sergeant were absolute. Knowing that he would eventually be resurrected is the only thing that keeps her focused on the task at hand. A resolute and highly skilled warrior with hundreds of years of combat experience, she is completely without fear and almost without remorse. Atrocities perpetrated during World War II and her subsequent death there, left her transformed from her darker aspect. She has worked for the Light and Gaia since the early 60’s.

Artwork: Created by Thaddeus Howze, using the City of Heroes Character Creator.

Appearances: Ms. Hart appears in my novella Equinox: The Last Scion and an excerpt can be read here: Chapter 2: Umbra

#8: The Alchemist

| November 9, 2011 | 4 Comments

Alan Flamel Dyer was about to start his Graduate Program in Chemistry at UIC, until he received some horrible news; his father, Edward Nick Dyer, was involved and killed in a car accident. At the funeral; Jason Kim, a close family friend, revealed to Alan that his father was more than just a civil engineer, he was also an Alchemist, descended from Nicolas Flamel and a member of the John Dee Society, part of a secret order of mystics who enforce the Rules of Alchemy and safeguard one of several mounds known as the  Source Stone, where the ancient Philosopher’s Stone is forged.Initially dismissive of this revelation, Alan soon discovers that truth, is indeed stranger than fiction as he discovers the great and terrible responsibility of wielding the powers of a God.

After a length of time as a hero and dealing with other factions within the John Dee Society, Alan realizes the importance of “strength in numbers” and takes steps into forming the first public team called The Frontline. To secure funding, Alan has procured financial  and technical support  from the Loman Foundation, a public charitable and research organization that also operates as the chief paranormal and extraterrestrial peace keeping organization. In exchange, Alan’s team will include a couple of the Loman Organization’s members as part of their team and Alan will provide his consulting services in regards to alchemy and practical science.

Abilities: Using the Philosopher’s Stone; The Alchemist is capable of transmuting matter into new forms via contact either with his hands or feet. Enhanced mental cognition allows him to calculate and perform transmutations in an instant, while enabling him to create and utilize various tactical scenarios. Though one of the most powerful items in the world, it relies on a connection to life for the Philosopher’s Stone to work, which is done by drawing the blood and spirit of the user, therefore, prolong or extended use of the Philosopher’s stone without proper rest can drain all life from the user.

Uses:

Energy Projection

Flight

Manifest weapons from his clothing

Armor Mode (Turning his entire uniform into a suit of armor)

Enhancing his own body in one aspect, whether in strength or in senses.

Training with Jason Kim (Tao) has also made Alan proficient in martial arts and in weapons combat. Training with Jason has also aided in improving Alan’s transmutation abilities and in prolonging his time in using the Stone’s power.

Creation: Another character that was designed as a fan drawing of another established superhero, this time, Green Lantern. The plan was to make a fanfiction character as a new Earth Green Lantern, but then I went and changed it into the Alchemist as part of an upcoming comic startup company. The company didn’t get off the ground, yet the character remained and I slowly altered and modified his look. Originally he had an elaborate costume with a long overcoat, my most recent revamp gave him a more cohesive pattern, yet the coat would have covered up the entire outfit, which is when I realized that I could simply combine the two to make a unique and distinctive hero look. Now, if I could finalize a color scheme, as my friends said my first color scheme was too much like Green Lantern, as I tried a mono-green color scheme. This character was entered into Stan Lee’s Superhero contest at Talenthouse in January, yet didn’t win. Even so, I still see some value in this and all my characters and I am proud to showcase him to everyone.

09 – Vigilance by Beausephus

| November 9, 2011 | 2 Comments

CHARACTER NAME: Vigilance

DATE OF CREATION: (Visual) 1995, (Story) 2002

CONCEPT: Vigilance is a street level vigilante known for bludgeoning “evil-doers” into submission… or is he?

________________________________________

Once again, the Batman and Moon Knight influence is undeniable.  The character that became Vigilance was a doodle in the margins of notebooks but not really a full fledged character until I rediscovered him when I was going through some old sketchbooks.

Looking at the character so far removed from the initial idea that spawned it, I looked at the character objectively.  There’s nothing groundbreaking about the design of the visual impact of the character…in fact it’s quite un-dynamic.  So what’s the point of a mediocre character?  Well, what if the character in question was not the main character in his own story?

I played with the idea…what if Vigilance was the object of the story not the protagonist.  In fact the idea I had is very similar to what Greg Rucka is doing on the recently relaunched Punisher series at Marvel.  What if Vigilance was everything that Batman is supposed to be – an urban myth, a phantom of the night with no real evidence of his existence?

So here’s the pitch – Police Detective Adrian Bask is convinced Vigilance exists and is hurtling towards obsession on the matter.  he’s on the edge, and the appointed task force he is heading up is on the verge of falling apart because no one can find real proof that the supposed vigilante exists. The beaten and bloody street thugs attest to a tattered cape and glowing white eyes, but so what?  Is Vigilance real?  Is Det. Bask going crazy?  perhaps the link between the two characters is closer than Bask would like to admit?

I’m imagining a POWERS meets ALIAS take on the spandex creature of the night with the Spandex character at the forefront of the storyline but not the main character.

Thanks for checking my stuff out.

#8 “Greenbeard” Greg Beardsley

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Band

Universe details: In the isolated city of Crescent where these characters live, superpowers spring from close encounters with death. Only people born in the city can gain these powers, and since this is a relatively new settlement, the first generation of people born there are just starting to show signs of super-fication. This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.

Height: 6’ 6”

Body Type: Let’s put it this way—he doesn’t look like he works out, but he looks like he could probably still beat you to death.

Hair: Bald. He keeps his head shaved remarkably close. Has a beard that is just long enough that someone could pull on it. Yes, it’s green.

Eyes: Dark brown. Perpetually downcast.

Race: White

Age: 19

Attire: Greg dresses somewhat like a punk rocker. Chains hang from his baggy black pants and a few piercings hang from his ears. Somehow the look is more convincing on him. Instead of looking like a pitiful teenage rebel, he looks seriously dark. Maybe it’s the perpetual frown he wears. On his back, he always carries an army green canvas knapsack that he calls his ‘emergency kit’. Inside is a change of clothes, a flask full of vodka, and condoms. Greg got a lot of tail even before he got his powers.

Superpowers: Cogency (subconscious, primary)- Everything that Greg says is utterly convincing. If you were to hear him argue a case for being a vegetarian, you would have no choice but to become a vegetarian. Greg’s powers don’t work as persuasion unless he gives a reason. For example, just saying “Shut up” would not cause a person to stop talking. He would have to say, “Shut up, you’re annoying me.” The only way you can beat Greg’s power is if you know he has it. Once you know what Greg’s doing to your head, you can convince yourself that you’re only convinced of whatever he’s saying because of his power. Of course, you still have to make a choice about whether or not Greg’s logic really makes sense, to figure out whether or not you want to believe what he’s saying…

Personality: Greg is the type of person that frowns at you while he tells you a joke. If he wants you to laugh, he’ll just say, “That was a really funny joke, you should laugh.”

‘Inscrutable’ is something one of the more insightful members of The Band (Rin) might call him. Judging a book by its cover, you might see a psychotic anti-socialite who never smiles, but he really has only the best intentions. Greg’s power makes his relationships with other people confusing: either they know about his power and can’t trust him, or they don’t know about it and they follow him blindly. He never knows if people agree with him for real or if he’s just convinced them with his power.

Source of powers/backstory:

  1. Greg gets his powers at The Band’s first concert, when a human disguised as a Future Cop (Crescent’s robotic police force) is killed by overenthusiastic heroes mistaking him for a robot.

Theme Song: Come As You Are- Nirvana

I felt like making my own speedster for the team. I think the hardest thing was picking out the color scheme for the costume.

# 6 : Deathmask

| November 9, 2011 | 2 Comments

A mercenary who is willing to take on and defeat Superhumans, The Deathmask.

Considered one of the best in field of Superhuman Assassination, the Deathmask has the best record in Superhuman and Paranormal kills in the growing field of super mercenary work. A tactile and hands-on warrior, the Deathmask confronts his quarry head-on and is not shy in revealing himself to the public as a method of self promotion to boost both his demand and ego in demonstrating that he was the one who killed said superpower, starting with his systematic slaughter of  San Diego’s crime team, The FreeLancers and the public battle and death of Philly’s iconic hero, The Patriot. Though is main operation is Superhuman Assassination, the Deathmask will take on execution orders on dignitaries, political and underworld leaders, and radicals, as they are merely the exhibition towards his main event, the masked hero. The Deathmask has been hired also by world governments in eliminating foreign superpowers as a method of controlling the escalating superhuman arms race.

Even scarier is that the identity of the Deathmask is currently unknown, as the mercenary is as elusive as he is deadly, placing him on the Watchlists of Interpol, the FBI, CIA, MI6, and The SOTF (Superhuman Observational Task Force).

Abilities: The Deathmask is a skilled martial artist and weapons specialist, showing skills in krav maga, jujitsu, and akido and proficiencies in long and short edge weapons. He demonstrates excellent proficiency in small and automatic weaponry, while also proficient in long-range weaponry.

The Deathmask’s suit is made of a combination carbon and kevlar armor weave with carbon nanotubule fibers, for enhanced protection, strength and power output. His cape and cowl are made from a memory cloth fiber with an optic-camoflague and glide function. The cape is attached to the main shoulder housing where it can retract and release on command.  The Buckle and Shoulder Clasps are mini power generators that allow the Deathmask’s suit to power its abilities while charge ports power up his main weapons.

Deathmask wields a series of staves that house  carbon “memory” polymers that, when channeled with an electrical current, manifest in various weapons, such as swords and axes. A mini battery in some Units enable the creation of throwing blades and unless a current is running through the staves, the polymers go inert and disperse. This prevents the Deathmask’s own weapons from being used against him. The Memory polymers are not just limited to his staves, but are also housed in the knuckles on his gauntlets.

Creation: This character started off as my redesign of the Marvel mercenary, the Taskmaster. When I showed this to my friend, Carlos, he suggested that since I spent a lot of time and effort in designing this character, why don’t I use it to create a new character, to which I did. While elements of the Taskmaster costume remain, I altered his boots and gloves, discarding his emblemic “T” on his belt, while adding new details on the uniform to finish the character.

G. Brett Williams #8 – The Wilde Card

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

The world after the first World War was a strange place full of political upheaval, vast social change and major technological advancement. It was an Earth reshuffled, a brave new world full of wealth, opportunity, progression. And that was just what people could see happening. Only a handful of the world’s most powerful and influential people were aware of the secrets that lay beneath the surface. For every advancement in technology, there were twenty advancements in fringe and super-science, things that were deeply classified or highly sought after. For every change in the social or political landscape, there were dark, smoke-filled rooms where men pulled strings and made puppets of those we thought most powerful. It was a dangerous and unknown future and many governments decided that they needed new ways of thinking, new methods of dealing with the problems that would blossom from the world’s great leap forward. Deep within the halls of British government, one such program was created and the world’s first “hero” was born.

The program, cleverly referred to as the Wilde Card Program was enacted by the British government as a means of defending their empire from the threats that they so desperately tried to keep out of the Sunday papers. They culled all the various branches of their armed forces until they found the soldier with the perfect combination of intelligence, physicality, individuality and patriotic zeal, then they turned him into a living weapon. That soldier was Samuel Wilde, but he became more commonly known by his codename, The Wilde Card. Samuel Wilde became Britain’s greatest champion, but it was something of a thankless job. He was always expected to do as he was told, to follow orders without question, and sometimes those orders weren’t very heroic. His handlers were always quick to remind him how important he was to the cause, but they never let him forget that he was basically a commodity, not a person. The life of secrecy began to take its toll on Samuel, though he never let it show to the people responsible for sending him on his missions.

The only person in Samuel’s life that he truly cared for was Madeline Greene. Greene was a female spy, a codebreaker in the employ of the British government. Samuel had liaised with her on various missions and the two had developed an attraction. Their love wasn’t necessarily forbidden, simply because the government didn’t think that Samuel was capable of something as deep and committed as love. To his handlers, Samuel ever finding something that he found more valuable than his service to the Empire was unlikely. They didn’t calculate that he would fall in love. Did they think he would be entirely asexual? Not at all. But they didn’t expect that he’d ever become interested enough in a woman to put his service to the military in jeopardy. They were wrong.

While Samuel battled many foes throughout his time as the Wilde Card, none was more terrifying than Master Midnight. Midnight was a particularly gruesome foe who combined the powers of conjuring and dark magic with his knowledge of science. His goals were never entirely clear but his results were impossible to ignore. He cut a swathe across the world, collecting artifacts, merging science and magic, and sowing the seeds of terror. Samuel pursued him all over the globe and their battles were titanic, to say the least. Despite the horror he faced though, Samuel could always come back to Madeline. Until Midnight found out about her. He kidnapped and used Madeline to finally gain the leverage he needed to defeat Samuel once and for all.

The government informed Samuel that Madeline Greene wasn’t worth the potential risk to their investment. The mission was deemed too dangerous to undertake so Samuel was ordered to cut her loose. For the first time in his life, he didn’t follow orders. Instead, he snuck away from his handlers and went rogue, deciding that Madeline was more important to him than anything else in the world. Of course, that’s exactly what Midnight wanted. Still, even with him expecting Samuel to come, Midnight was caught off guard by the man. The two battled back and forth with neither being able to gain the advantage. When Midnight saw that things were lost, saw that Samuel would not quit, even if it meant both of them would die, he decided to cut his losses. He cast a spell against Madeline, whom he still had restrained, that killed her in an instant. Then he used Samuel’s rage and his grief as distraction enough to escape. In his retreat, he lit the building they were in on fire, insuring that Samuel would be too preoccupied to follow him. His plan worked better than he’d expected. Samuel Wilde perished in that fire.

At least, that’s what the official report said. Samuel Wilde and Madeline Greene were listed as Killed In Action and Master Midnight was considered at large. He never surfaced again after that day, so the threat was considered handled. The Wilde Carde Program was shut down and Samuel Wilde was buried as a soldier of the empire. But rumour circulated throughout the government that the official report was anything but accurate. There were certain people who believed that Samuel Wilde faked his own death, that perhaps he and Madeline Greene had both escaped a fiery death. Some people took it even further, theorizing that the body found burned to death in the remains of the building was actually Master Midnight’s, not Samuel Wilde’s.  Regardless of the truth, the government’s official position was that Samuel Wilde was dead. They wouldn’t revisit the idea of a super spy program for a few years and once they did, the program, and the world, would have changed significantly.

# 7: Azrael, The Fatalist

| November 9, 2011 | 0 Comments

A superfast and aggressive hero; Azrael, The Fatalist.

Poor Lawrence Sandoval, he just got accepted into a networking internship for the Archangel Corporation, but unfortunately, was killed on his way to the main headquarters in a tragic plane crash. However, this was not the end of Lawrence Sandoval. For he, and several other individuals were used as subjects for Archangel’s true business venture; superhuman and paranormal weapons research. Under Project: Immortal Weapon, Lawrence and several others were used as human hosts to house and entrap various Death beings to be used as the ultimate killing machines for Archangel’s benefit. So, from that point on, Lawrence was made to be a host to a God of Death and was conditioned and made into a living weapon. Each human avatar was named based on which Death God they were host to; and forced into wetwork operations to escalate Third World conflicts and in the retrieval of occult artifacts.

The project’s intent was to strip the human aspect and let the Death beings run shop, but Lawrence and a few were able to retain their humanity, while the sins of their work weigh heavily upon their conscience. It wasn’t until the Deathgod Unit named Yama caused a massive breakout that Lawrence and every other horrific experiment created by Archangel was set free upon an unsuspecting world. Now back in Chicago, Lawrence has set up his operations in taking on threats too twisted for the police to handle and in uncovering any evidence as to the truth regarding Archangel. With the Angel of Death known as Azrael, Lawrence not only has to cope with another voice in his head, but also in insuring that Azrael’s bloody nature doesn’t overtake him. Though even with all this darkness surrounding him, Lawrence still maintains his dry and sarcastic sense of humor, as he was in his former life.

The Fatalist made his debut in the incredibly bloody encounter against the sadomasochistic killer known as Bloodrage, and has operated in dealing with the increased migration of Paranormals entering Chicago, even encountering with former Deathgod Unit such as Thanatos, Hades, and a particularly brutal encounter with Yama himself. Recently, Azrael is now connected with the formation of a superteam, calling themselves the Frontline. How this venture will turn out, no one knows.

Abilities: As a host to the Angel of Death, Azrael, Lawrence is endowed with enhanced strength and speed. Lawrence has enhanced reflexes that combined with his speed, make him one of the deadliest hand to hand combatants around. Lawrence also possesses a remarkable healing factor that can heal him from any wound or injury and makes him resistant to chemical agents. These abilities are typically constant, yet Lawrence undergoes a physical transformation, where his hair stands on end, eyes turn red, and his skin turns pale as markings come out of him in order for Lawrence to use the full extent of Azrael’s power.

When severely injured or blacked out, Azrael will take for Lawrence and do battle for him. When this happens, Lawrence’s face and hands are encased in his own blood, which hardens into a shell and converts into a horrific mask, which is the true face of Azrael, as winglike manifestations flow around Lawrence’s body. When this happens, Azrael’s speed increases dramatically as does his other abilities, along with a more aggressive attack style. Along with increased abilities, Azrael utilizes his own repertoire of moves, such as sprouting wings for flight, casting black fire and ice spells, and manifesting a bloody sword to fight with.  Azrael has told Lawrence he, too, can use his abilities if he only let him ” take over” more.

Creation: Azrael, The Fatalist was originally called Fate. He was also originally based on The Crow and Sting’s Crow persona from pro wrestling. This was a creation I did back in high that orignally just looked like a Crow ripoff, until I used the Super-Sayan hair raising technique and implemented more ring attire into his look, as seen in that his boots were actually wrestling style kickpads. Even his backstory went through numerous revisions, with the Weapon X analogue being the main staying point of him, as well as making him a Hispanic character, which isn’t his core identity. As for the symbol, I did it once during a challenge to make various tribal symbols, and I liked the look of this particular one and used as his emblem, along with other projects as a friend of mine once cited that symbols that use constantly will have a sense of power to you, and I decided I could tie it into the former logo of the Archangel Corporation as Fate stole the armor from them. Another thing I want to mention is that the name change occurred as I was brainstorming to change the name in conjunction with the Death God naming, yet I wanted to tie into his former name as well as the dark nature of his character, hence the Fatalist.

#3 – Mister Nocturne

Mister Nocturne

I sorta came up with him during my music class. He is the Tenth “Mister Nocturne” and is a wizard that uses musical language instead of magical incantations or runes. Richard is also a musical prodigy who is a professional trumpet player, but prefers playing the drums.

Nyda Aeres

Some would say Nyda loves kicking butt, others would say she just loves the sound of her fists pounding someone’s rotten face. Nyda considers herself a mediator and her hands and feet do all the negotiating.
She likes to keep those hands and feet warm in some isotoner gloves and boots, but still trying to keep a non-leather outfit out of her wardrobe. She’s not here to win some skimpy bikini contest while she kicks some butt.

A tribute to the late, great Smokin’ Joe Frazier. Ranked one of the ten greatest heavyweight champs of all time. He was one of only 5 guys that beat “the greatest” – Ali.

#8 Hatman

A superhero isn’t defined by your cape, your mask, or your big letter on your chest. Hatman is solid proof of that. Hatman is a superhero with no powers, and with a plethora of actual superheroes in the world, Hatman is going to have a hard time making himself stand out.

The Undead Soldier

(2011 Dan Nokes)  The year is 2115…It has been a decade since a nuclear holocaust wiped out over 99% of the world’s population.  What is left has mutated into canibalistic sub-human creatures, or banded into small pockets of scavengers, looking for a fabled land that had been untouched by the THE GREAT LAST DEATH, as the survivors had called it.  One such pocket was heading north on one such rumor, when they were attacked by a mutant gang.  They were about to be overwhelmed, when a stranger in soldier’s garb saved the band.  When the tribe went to thank him they found that the soldier had been hideously scared to the point where he resembled a walking corpse…The tribe elder identified him from another legend of the wasteland known as THE UNDEAD SOLDIER: A former military man, whose origin’s are shrouded in mystery.  But is said to help out person’s who cross his path.  None are sure why?  Some say because of some lost sense of duty.  Other’s say it is to feel some semblence of a long lost humanity.   In any case the Undead soldier follows the band and protects them from the numerous beasts, dangers, and terrors, that lurk in the unknown as they make their way to what they hope is a small patch of paradise in what seems a unending wasteland…Â
