#8 Survivalist

| November 11, 2011 | 4 Comments

Not much is known about the Survivalist, except he’s the guy you want on your team when the zombie apocalypse happens. It’s assumed he is ex military of some sort, and he says very, VERY little, resorting to gestures or silence to get his points across. His abilities as a tracker are uncanny, and as a combatant, he is an expert at hand-to-hand combat and escape and evade. He rarely uses firearms, resorting to bows, knives, and various other missile weapons. Sort of a last minute addition to the team, often he decides the course of action they take.

The masked avenger of wrongs! The pinnacle of hirsute manliness! Fighting crime from the top rope!

He also works as a tour bus driver, but never ever removes the mask.

#11 – “The Golden Boy” Ford Knox (GWP)

| November 11, 2011 | 3 Comments

Imagine, for a second, that aliens were real and that they came to Earth. Not to be our friends, but to conquer it. Look around you…see any super heroes? Neither do I. Now, sure, we could throw the Armed Forces of the entire world at them (maybe, if all got along), but what if all it took was a group of men and women that could be passed off as super heroes? What if instead of cannon fodder and casualties, we told them that we had powerful men and women that could beat them in combat?

Yep. We sent professional wrestlers to deal with them.

Welcome to the GWP. Galaxy Wrestling Pro. A federation made up of humans and aliens alike. We’re going to focus on the humans for this, and the next five, entry(ies).

When dealing with a world wide threat, who do you throw at the aliens? The best “talker” in the biz. The World Champion. I mean, he is the WORLD champion (one of 7), so that’s gotta count for something, right? Ford Knox (real name Richard Knochs) is more or less thrown into this mess. He sure doesn’t want to leave the comforts of Earth (women, limos, upscale clothing, etc). And he’s going to do his best to get back to his world. Because of this, he’s considered the heel of the group. But the GWP offers him the opportunity to do something no man (or woman) has ever done in the history of professional wrestling…

He can be the GWP Universe Champion.

The Universe is bigger than the World, right?

I should have put his catchphrase in the image, so I will do that with the next few. By the way, it’s “WHOA!” and “You gotta beat me to be me!” His finisher is called “The Gold Standard” Figure Four Leglock.

NOTE: I’m using Hero-O-Matic (aka Fabrica De Herois) to create my characters. If you’re a writer who can’t draw (like me!), you might want to try it!

10 – The Wooden Wizard

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #9, SPUNGE! …

…the arboreal enchantments of the WOODEN WIZARD!

Environmentalist Everett Green was staging another one of his internet-famous logging protests when he began to cough up a shimmering golden mist.  This distraction allowed the authorities, whom Green was in a stand off with, to move in and subdue the aggressive protester.  In the squad car, Green began to convulse and change.  His arms and lower legs became tree-like to the point that his elongated fingers sprouted a few leaves and his skin took on a bark-like texture.  This transformation increased Green’s strength allowing him to tear the door off of the imprisoning police cruiser.

The wooded Green then began a rampage against the police, loggers and media present; ranting his extreme environmental mantras over and over.  Nearly taken down by a brave logger in a front loader, Green instinctively rooted his trunk-like legs into the ground and through extraordinary means animated the nearby trees to come to his aid.  This extremely surreal turn of events resulted in all present running for safety and allowed Green to focus on his new found power.

Turning his attention from the recent events and to the city skyline in the distance, Green amassed a gigantic army of trees, all under his direct control, and marched on his hated enemy, civilization and its voracious consumer population.  The attack on the city immediately drew the attention of the Five Points of Freedom.  While the Gold Gladiator, Ms. Mercury and the Enforcer fought back the mobilized forest, the Azure Aviator and War-Dove took to the skies to find the driving force of the arboreal onslaught.  Impeded by a pair of surly redwoods the aerial avengers were thwarted in their attempt to capture the super villain who escaped back into the wilderness where he remains at large.  That rustle you hear in the trees is not always the wind.

The rise of empowered villains has been met by the Five Points, but this shift in focus to the fantastic has left a void in their previous crusade against less bizarre street-level crime.  This void has been filled with individuals like…

#11 – Tessy Tantrum

| November 11, 2011 | 3 Comments

I think this one is my favorite so far. 🙂 A little twist on the Hulk’s ‘the madder he gets, the stronger he gets’ mantra. What if the anger didn’t make a person stronger; only BIGGER…? A fun character to whip up. Hope you dig it!

10-Marko the Warrior Mime

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

Very simple. A man who attacks with his mime powers except when he pretends to shoot someone, he actually shoots someone. If quickly builds a large contraption to trap someone, it usually works. (He’s a mime after all, he can’t be too good at his job.) If he slips and falls, there was a banana in the way of his foot. He also likes to trap people in boxes.

Late and this weekend is going to get shaky as I am running home from my school for the weekend. Still need sketch for yesterday.

11- Atlas by Beausephus

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME: Atlas

DATE OF CREATION : 1987-ish…

CONCEPT: A normal joe gains superhuman strength and invulnerability.  he struggles to adapt to normal life with his newfound abilities and decides throwing on a light blue spandex outfit to fight crime is the best way to experiement with his abilities, do good, get some recognition so maybe someone can help him discover the origin of his powers and if they have nefarious side-effects…

_____________________________________________

ATLAS was the pure escapist creation of an elementary school mind.  He was the giant bruiser who just wanted to do good but really had no idea what he was doing.  At one time ATLAS, in his pre-powered days, wanted to become a cop and do what he saw as good, and now, newly empowered he dons a costume and tries to figure out how to fight crime based on his limited exposure to just what that entails.  He meets up with other super-folks who he regularly teams up with and they open his eyes to the network of alliances and dastardly intentions that criss cross the superhero scene.  Essentially, ATLAS is a first person avatar to explore a new superhero environment without having to disguise exposition.  Of course, the limitations of my emerging writing ability didn’t fully comprehend this concept, I just liked the fact that whenever ATLAS met new characters they could go into an origin story of their own.

ATLAS starred in two or three photocopied and hand colored issues of a comic book bearing his name.  In his adventures he tried to stop a nasty fellow wearing a green unitard and packing as many uzis as my young self could fit on the character.  This fellow was had numerous clones and an evil corportation bankrolled a mad scientist to create the whole thing.  ATLAS wound up teaming up with a rogue green unitard clone who fought alongside him to take down the evil organiztion, which, as it turns out might have had a hand in ATLAS’s powers…. cue melodramatic reveal music.  I don’t remember much else about the stories.  I know there was a guy who had a helmet that looked like a giant eyeball that shot lasers out of the pupil, but that’s it.

I do remember the cringeworthy costume and design of the character.  Blond mullet.  Bright blue costume with matching headband and a plunging neckline and flared collar that was more disco that superhero.  I tried to stay close to the original design but toned down the huge collar, and lost the mullet.  The basic blue bracelets that covered his forearms were anime-d up to give some more shape and design to the very basic original costume design.

Not an overtly amazing character but one that I cared about very much in my youth, but looking back, I’m pretty sure I liked drawing and coming up with new characters for him to meet more than ATLAS, himself.

Thanks for checking out my stuff.

#11 The Suit

| November 11, 2011 | 2 Comments

The Suit is my own personal tribute to the pulp heroes of yesteryear with a modern approach to it. It’s my take on heroes like Batman, The Shadow, and The Spirit.

If you have seen Muckraker (#9) and liked the approach, then you will like The Suit as well.

The Suit lives and operates in the shadows. No one knows when and if he comes forth to combat the criminal elements on the the streets of New York City. In the dark passages and alleyways of the city, his light neon colors displays for all evil to see.

No one knows who he is or where he comes from, but the citizens have call him a protector, a savior, and an urban legend. Most of the citizens and criminals give veg  descriptions of what he looks like, which makes him easy to scratch heads about as far as the police trying to find him and locate his whereabouts.  He does ride in a classic custom vehicle whenever he needs to travel in the city.

Height: 6’0, Weight: 237 Lbs.,  Age: unknown

Powers:

None, but processes hand to hand combat and agility.

Weapons:

No weapons of any kind, but has some small ball shaped bombs colorized for any kind of purpose.

Personality:

Calculating, self aware, presided as dangerous to law enforcement at large.

#10 : Stasis

| November 11, 2011 | 0 Comments

A researcher that works as an adventurer, Stasis

An advanced expert in the field of energy fields and field generation, Rebecca Styles discovered a method of creating variable spatial distortion and manipulation  fields contained in the form of energy spheres. As she researched deeper into her discovery, she found that the spheres can be made to be capable of either manipulating gravity, slowing down time, and conducting energy. Rebecca was about to present her findings, when she overheard that her research team were about to be absorbed into Archangel Industries and that all focus will be used for military and weapons applications, Rebecca fled with her findings and developed them in secret at a safehouse she installed, until she saw various news networks reporting the influx of superhumans battles and the advanced tech used by many villains resembled aspects of not only her research, but of several other scientists, who have been turning up dead under mysterious circumstances. Fearing for her life and feeling responsible for the harm her tech is causing, Rebecca crafts a set of gauntlets and a portable power supply and set out to combat these tech-based villains as Stasis.

Stasis has fought several villains and has crusaded in an uphill battle against Archangel, until she was approached by both the Alchemist and Azrael into starting up a united team of superpowers to combat not just the large threats, but to aid each other into their respective personal battles. Stasis was intially hesistant as she views herself more of scientist than crimefighter, but was eventually swayed into joining with help from Azrael’s own personal feud with Archangel and the Alchemist’s own deal with the Loman Organization in consulting.

Now going by the name Ashley Howell, Rebecca is under the protection of the Loman Organization, working as a lab consultant for their airships and teleporters while operating as one of the founding members of the Frontline.

Abilities: Rebecca/Ashley’s suit is designed to project and manipulate various energy fields in the form of spheres that range in the following types:

Gravity: Alters the density of gravity enabling flight or dense enough to as  crushing melee bursts.

Time Distortion: Able to slow down or accelerate the speed of any object contained within its sphere of influence.

Energy: Able to contain and disperse vast stores of energy collected via kinetic motion.

Rebecca/Ashley is a skilled scientist in technology and particle research while possessing a moderate degree of hand-to-hand combat experience.

Creation: The character was designed as an aid to include a strong female character and her look was initially inspired by Wally West Flash Villain, Magenta, until I added the visor faceplate and redesigned her look to incorporate the gauntlets and a power bracer around her waist. The pose I got from referencing Storm on the X-Men.

# 9: Bonesplitter

| November 11, 2011 | 1 Comment

A teen crimefighter trying to do some good with a misnomer for a name, Bonesplitter.

Son to a police officer killed in the line of duty during a rash of off-duty officer slayings, Hector Rodriguez decided to seek out info regarding the identity of this mysterious shooter and deliver vengeance under a mask. Calling himself Bonesplitter, because it sounded cool and he got it off of a Magic card, and donning a skeleton costume, he set out making routine patrols. His first attempts at crime-fighting nearly killed him, if it wasn’t for the timely intervention of Azrael, The Fatalist. Though Azrael told Hector to stop being a vigilante, Hector still pursued being a crime fighter, forcing Azrael to actually train him in both combat and in eventually finding his father’s killer; Hector’s final test at being either a hero or a killer was set. The end result was Hector taking the high, yet hard road by putting the killer behind bars, to which Azrael rewarded him with a new, more durable outfit and a set of battle sticks shaped like femurs.

When the Frontline  was forming, Azrael vouched for Hector, but as he was still a minor, could not be made an official member, yet is given Junior Status with the Frontline as it is better to train the next generation than to leave them out on their own. Currently, Hector juggles his senoir year at high school and his masked identity as Bonesplitter dealing with crime within his community in Pilsen, yet when needed, will be called upon to work alongside the Frontline.

Abilities: Hector has the strength, stamina, and speed of a young man in his teens. He possesses moderate to skilled level in open-hand and weapon combat thanks to Azrael, as well as some proficiency in throwing weapons and in free running. His costume was originally a store bought Skeleton costume with a simple hooded sweater and his late father’s baton. Azrael gave Hector a new suit designed with a Kevlar/Nomex weave and his hoodie was reinforced with ceramic armor plates etched inside the sweater, and two carbon steel batons, shaped like femurs to use in stick fighting and mid-range projectiles. The batons also possess a taser charge. Azrael also equipped Hector with an assortment of tools to use in his endeavors, including a grappling gun, smoke bombs, and a taser.

Creation: This character was inspired by one of Street Fighter’s EX characters, Skullomania, and I just thought it could work as a teen superhero concept in the vein of an early Spider-Man/ Nightwing aesthetic. His second outfit is the one I went with as it was easier to draw than the original full skeleton concept costume and the Scarlet Spider nods in regards to a hoodie work for a teenager.

# 8 CAPTAIN BASTARD & STICK BOY

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Captain Bastard and Stick Boy is the brain child of my two friends Dave and Scott. When I was looking for Ideas from people for this challenge Dave told me about this comical super hero duo that he and Scott had come up with years back. The short bio on these two is “”Captain Bastard wields the weapon…Stick Boy IS the weapon…and he hates that $@*&!” A dysfunctional SuperHero team if there ever was one. LOL! They gave me no description of what they would look like so I thought it would be funny to do an interpretation based on the classic superhero duo of Batman and Robin. Thanks guys for letting have some fun with your characters!

#10 – Ram Girl

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

The final of my Michelles. Not too crazy about the way this one came out, but conceptually, this one is on the money.

Michelle is very stubborn. Annoyingly so. If she says she’s right, she will go down fighting to prove it…or to convince you.

Ram Girl here was almost called “Bullheady” which is another Western PA colloquialism that Michelle introduced me to (might end up changing it). It means stubborn and, obviously, bull-headed. Ram Girl…well, her heart is in the right place, but her head? Probably stuck in a wall.

Would have liked to have true ram horns, but unfortunately, Fabrica didn’t have that option.

Tomorrow will be the first of a group of six that also have a theme. Tune in Tokyo!

(Why did I say that?)

NOTE: I’m using Hero-O-Matic (aka Fabrica De Herois) to create my characters. If you’re a writer who can’t draw (like me!), you might want to try it!

#11 Dragon Woman

#10 “Dragonbreath” Eric Vaughn

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Band

Universe details: In the isolated city of Crescent where these characters live, superpowers spring from close encounters with death. Only people born in the city can gain these powers, and since this is a relatively new settlement, the first generation of people born there are just starting to show signs of super-fication. This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.

Height: 4’ 4”

Body type: Advanced toddler. Moderately chubby.

Hair: An untamed mess of dark brown squiggles.

Eyes: Reddish brown. They have an indescribable fire in them.

Race: White (He is convinced he is the last of his kind, a breed of shape-shifting dragon.)

Age: 7 (He believes he hails from medieval times, but has lost much of his memory since he assumed human form.)

Attire: Eric never takes off his dragon costume. It’s unclear how long he’s been wearing the thing, or how he bathes. To him the costume is a second skin, and removing it would be like being skinned alive.

Superpowers: Eric’s powers make him what he always thought he was: a dragon. Most of the time he remains in his human form, in costume, but if prompted by danger or desperation (or the need to bathe) he changes into his dragon form, which basically involves his body merging with the costume until the costume comes alive. He does not grow huge, or have wings to fly, but he can breathe fire (in both human and dragon form) and while in dragon form his armored skin is virtually impenetrable. As a dragon he moves very quickly and has dangerously sharp claws and teeth.

Personality: Eric is very smart for his age, but overly imaginative. His favorite book is Grendel by John Gardner (he likes the dragon in it). His favorite day is Halloween (his costume is always the same). He doesn’t have many friends on account of his odd behavior, so he goes to The Band when he wants to socialize with someone who understands him. He doesn’t fight alongside The Band, however, unless he is compensated with treasure to add to his slowly growing hoard.

Power Source/Backstory:

a.       Eric was at The Band’s first concert, where overenthusiastic heroes killed a person disguised as a usually robotic police officer.

Theme Song: Through the Fire and Flames- Dragonforce

#9 “L’Artiste” Ashley Ash

Height: 5’ 5”

Body Type: Somewhat gaunt.

Hair: Just past the shoulder, black, with various colored highlights spaced throughout. The highlights have grown out to about halfway down her hair.

Eyes: Blue

Race: White

Age: 14

Attire: Lately she’s been limited to the generic orange jumpsuit of the jailbird, but before that she wore long, flowing skirts and dresses with t-shirts and leather boots. A mixture of feminine and hardcore. Her style resembles that of Greenbeard.

Superpowers: Anything that Ashley renders (draws, paints, scratches into the wall with a toothbrush) on a flat surface, she can pull out of the 2D world and into the real world. Depending on the crudeness of the illustration, the item drawn may not look exactly as it should, but it always suits the artist’s intended purpose. If she were lost in the desert and hungry and she drew an apple with her finger in the sand, the apple might still look like it was made of sand when she pulled it out, but it would taste like an apple and satiate her hunger. Ashley’s preference seems to be for still life, but she may be capable of creating something a little more complicated given the provocation.

Personality: Ashley has gone a little insane since her power first manifested. (See backstory below.) She babbles, stares into space, and does finger paintings in her own blood because they won’t let her have art supplies in prison. She’s detached but not in a sad way, exactly. Sometimes, in her better moments, her madness can be comedic. During their stint in jail together, Ashley and Camille form a strong bond because they are both fighting off darkness inside of them. Camille helps Ashley put an end to her insanity and use her powers to help people.

Power source/backstory:

a.                  After her mother died, Ashley painted a portrait of her, as beautiful and lifelike as she could make it, which is pretty damn beautiful and lifelike since Ashley is something of an artistic savant. In a moment of grief, she went to touch the finished painting, only to find her hand reached inside and pulled out her mother’s warm, fleshy, living arm. The arm, poking out of the canvas, thrashed and scratched, an angry contrast with her mother’s still smiling face in the portrait. The painting desperately drags itself after Ashley with its one exposed arm, a grotesque creation that Ashley decides could not possibly be her real mother. She sets the canvas aflame, and the exposed arm burns just as easily as the rest of the painting. The fire spreads to consume the rest of Ashley’s house, and she is arrested for arson. Ashley vows never to paint another portrait.

#8 Dr. Omnibus

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Dr. Omnibus

Dr. Omnibus was one of the first superly-abled born after the Roswell incident. Gifted with super-intelligence, Dr. Omnibus quickly rose to prominence as a hero, fighting some of the earliest super villains such as the Black Mollusk. Dr. Omnibus made his home in Omni Keep, an advanced lab built on a lake near Megalo City.

In 1974, Dr. Omnibus and Squadron Leader c0-founded The Squadronnaires, the world’s premier super team. The two heroes were co-leaders until Squadron Leader’s death in 1984 during the first Invisible War. Dr. Omnibus lead The Squadronnaires himself until he was killed by the Black Mollusk in 2001.

#10: Omega

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Unknown

Aliases: Omega, That son of a bitch

Hair: Brown

Eyes: White

Height: 6’2

Weight: 178 lb

Bio: Omega is a cross-dimensional immigrant. Next to nothing is known about his universe, save that they have a control of energy far beyond anything we as a society are capable of. Omega refuses to say anything about the dimension he came from.

He came to this dimension in early 2003, and in four years time, he was democratically elected by the United Federation of Super-powered Individuals as Chairman and Commander of all operations.

Powers:  Complete energy manipulation. Omega can generate a functionally limitless amount of energy from his body, both of a highly volatile and explosive “black matter” and a clean-burning ball of light called “white matter”.

It is believed Omega’s body is, in fact, composed of pure energy, for ordinary projectiles go through him and even metaphysical abilities, such as those demonstrated by Carson White AKA Mister Heart Attack, have no effect.

The only figure known to be able to do any sort of damage to Omega is Entropy, who, as an embodiment of decay, can turn the energy into vapor before it reaches him.

Day 10: Doctor Elemental

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments
Doctor Elemental

Charles Hollingsworth III was already a fourth generation American aristocrat, captain of industry, World War I veteran ace pilot, and world adventurer when he discovered the fabled GAUNTLET OF THE FOUR FATES.  Fabled to have fallen from the sky, and control the four elements of the ancient universe: Fire, Wind, Water, and Earth.  It has popped up in notes of obscure manuscript, half scratched wall etchings, and whispered murmurs around campfires.  Charlie, as his friends call him, found the gauntlet, and soon learned that its powers were indeed real.  He not long afterwards adopted the secret moniker of DOCTOR ELEMENTAL, and began a series of adventures as a costumed crimefighter, that eventually led him to join and become a founding member of the Golden Age’s premiere super hero group: THE ALLIANCE!  He fought alongside the group through World War II and up until 1953 when the group mysteriously disapeared while on a deep space mission.  They re-emerged in 2001 and Hollingsworth along with them.  He assumed the identity for a while until a few years ago, when advanced age forced Hollingsworth to retire.  Occasionally though he has donned the costume to do the odd sporatic mission with his former teamates…

#10 ‘Faceless’

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Faceless is the latest in a long line of heroes called Faceless, he’s still the one with the worst fashion sense though, he wears the original mask of the 1800’s hero called Faceless as well as his own costume. despite his silly appearance Faceless is still the hero taken most seriously in the local area, he’s also SuperDan’s role model, although Faceless occasionally acknowledges SuperDan’s existence it’s doubtful he’ll ever see him as a threat to his position as ‘top hero’… or as an equal in fighting crime, or as a sidekick, or as a friend, or an acquaintance

G. Brett Williams #10 – Gunzi, The Ace of Clubs

| November 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

Gunzi – A quiet and reserved warrior, Gunzi is by far the group’s most formidable fighter. Deadly with a weapon or unarmed, he has mastered many aspects of China’s various martial arts, creating a hybrid fighting style all his own. He is a quiet, introspective man with a great knowledge of history as well as combat. Gunzi was a soldier in the Kuomintang, Chiang Kai-shek’s Nationalist army. Though he followed Chiang Kai-shek, Gunzi more firmly believed in the policies of Chiang’s forbear, Sun Yat-sen. Sun Yat-sen, more versed in Western culture than his successor, espoused an ideology based on three principles; nationalism, democracy and the livelihood of the people. Gunzi was a young man filled with national pride and the willingness to defend his rapidly growing home country when Chiang took over control of the Kuomintang. Allying himself with the Soviet communist party to further his own nationalist ideals, Kai-shek took control of a large portion of China, including Shanghai. His overthrow of Shanghai led to the Shanghai Massacre of 1927 which saw the politically motivated murder of many communists in the city. While he feared the communist ideology, Gunzi certainly didn’t advocate the wholesale slaughter of his neighbors simply because they chose to believe in it. The Shanghai massacre turned his stomach so that he decided to escape the army and flee to England. In England, he took up with various institutions and learned as much as he could about Western culture, making his assimilation into that culture quite easy. Gunzi was an excellent student of history and politics. When he wasn’t practicing his martial skill, you could always find him devouring texts by the leading philosophers of the past and the present. He eventually found a job in the British armed forces, teaching code breaking and Chinese translation to communications officers and hand to hand combat to anyone who would listen. He found that, despite the problems he had with certain aspects of the West, he liked the culture as a whole. He felt comfortable with the relative freedom that Western ideology afforded its people, but part of him yearned for home, yearned to once again get his hands dirty in the fight against tyranny. So when the British government came to him with a proposition about the Aces program, he was more than willing to listen. Gunzi is the group’s oldest and wisest member, the one they always turn to for counsel when things are at their darkest.

#10 Iron-Chef

| November 10, 2011 | 4 Comments

Here is my 10th character in a series of related characters for a funny super-hero comic project I have been planning to make.

This one is IRON-CHEF:

Built by a genius billionaire with money and time to spare, Iron-Chef is an indestructible and lightning quick cuisine creating robot. Designed to be a body guard when not busy in the kitchen, he was also programmed with state-of-the-art technology and the instincts of quadruple black-belt ninja. When his careless master accidentally died in a house fire he caused with a cigar, Iron-Chef looked for a new place to protect and to serve – serve food, that is. Luckily, a super hero squad posted several needed positions including a robot, a master of martial arts, and a gourmet chef. Iron-chef’s problems were solved and he now fills a need in the community and in the bellies of his teammates.
