Zarna is a Warrior Queen from the realm of Hy-Brasil. She has magical powers as well as super strength. You don’t mess with Zarna period.

#15 – Arachnid

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Ugh, this, by far, has been on of the hardest OCs to create. I’ve always been afraid of spiders, but my favorite Marvel superhero is Spider-Man. Arachnid is more of Spider-Woman with the fact that he was born with the DNA in him. I probably give him a better suit once I’m done with the challenge.

#13 Mr. Jackson

Dimensional traveler and all around badass, Mr. Jackson.
Part of an RPG project a group of  friends and I are working on.

#1 Felix and #2 Alessa

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Yeah, yeah, I’m late. My phone can’t upload pictures so I wanted to find a comouter and post from there, but I haven’t found the time. I’m worried that I’ll be kicked out before I do get the time, so I’ll just post them all sad and pictureless. I have 23 right now.

Anyway, so my first character is Felix. He’s training at a sort of supervillain academy. The school works in that you start as a henchman and try to rise your way up to be a full-blown villain with henchmen of your own. Think store worker to CEO, except, ya know, nefarious. Felix is a teenager and thus is old enough to lead his own little band of mooks to carry out deeds for his villain. He pretty much picked all of his friends at the school. They’re the ‘distracter’ group, I’ll tell you why they’re necessary to the plans soon. Anyway, Felix likes to stick to the instructions given out to him by his leader…maybe too well, since if his plans unfold wrong somehow, he’s left floundering until one of his more ingenious underlings comes up with another one.

The next character is Alessa, and she’s in a superhero academy. It works differently than the supervillain school. Here you serve in a kind of apprenticeship under one superhero and when you’ve learned enough, you either take up their mantle or become their sidekick. Sort of like knights, you know? Anyway, the superheroes have their code of chivalry too, and one of the rules is that you must always stop and help anyone in need. This is why the supervillain distracters work so well. They act as citizens, or even other superheroes in peril. They also plant evidence and create red herrings that the superheroes are forced to follow. These deeds leave enough time for the villains to execute their plots. Alessa is irritated by the rule because she constantly finds herself stopping to, oh, help someone’s cat out of a tree when she should be chasing the villain. Skipping over people gets her in trouble with her mentor. Alessa tends to try to fight whatever she feels is the biggest threat at the moment, usually letting everything else slide when she does so.

Alessa and Felix accidentally meet when she skips over a distraction that would have given him enough time to start the next one. Instead she runs into him ahead of schedule. She demands to know what he’s doing and who he is, and, being a sucky improviser, he decides just to tell her the truth. Both of their operations that day fail because she deems him not to be that bad and they pretty much spend the rest of the time just talking and finding out about each others’ pretty much opposite lives.

Anyway, to skip to the point, they start dating in a not-so-secret way. In an avoidance of the ever-annoying romeo and juliet plot, their friends and mentors do not especially care. So Felix is dating some superhero girl, so what? As long as he keeps helping them succesfully commit crimes and he doesn’t tattle to her or anything, they’re good. And Alessa is dating some supervillain guy? Fine, as long as she keeps stopping his plots. That’s the difficult part for them, being against each other while, ya know, still being with each other. And if they fail enough, they’ll get kicked out of their respective schools for good.

Kay, hopefully this wasn’t too horrid or incoherent. Hope it made up for the no picture thing :c.

#14 – Muse

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

She has the jewel on her forehead to control her powers. Without it, everything would go out of control. She has an assistant who is Character #19.

#13 – The Last Centurion

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was thinking of Rory from Doctor Who. He’s one of my favorite companions from the show and I remember him as the centurion. From those tiny thoughts, I created this character. The Last Centurion is not immortal, though the Goddess Diana like to keep him alive. His main weapon is his sword and his outfit is a somewhat modernized version of the centurion uniform. A definite WIP.

#12 – Lost Star

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was still listening to “Cosmic Love” while thinking of this character. Galaxy Girl needed a male counterpart, so I created her “brother.” He is an older being, but is only given a star. Lost Star tend to wander around and likes to discover new things.

#26 Cockatrice

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Cockatrice

Five years ago, Marie Lareine was a new immigrant to America, struggling with English, and cowed under the abusive control of her husband. Then she discovered her strange ability to paralyze a body and control other’s muscles with the connection of eye contact. She used her new talent to cast off the oppression of her husband, and set out to avenge wronged girls and women anywhere she could find them. Now that the greater superhero community has become aware of the woman called Cockatrice, they are wondering if she will extend her protection to others in need.

#11 – Galaxy Girl

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I needed more Space-related characters and came up with her. I was watching the music video of Florence + The Machine’s “Cosmic Love” while looking at X-23 #16’s cover art and then boom. Most of the systems in her don’t have planets with life in them. She’s still a WIP.

#10 – Shell

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

I came up with the name Shell after thinking of one of my friends. Shell can revert to her original human form, but some of the nanobots will show on her skin. I thought of giving her the metallic form after reading some teen titans, seeing Bombshell, and some X-Men, looking at Emma Frost.

#26: Fracas

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Real Name: Terry Newman

Age: 36

Height: 6’3

Weight: 234 lbs.

Character info: Fracas was a character I made up when I was around 14 years old. His backstory involved him being an ex-Navy Seal who went rogue for mysterious reasons, and joined up with a villain team. He has no superpowers, yet is heavily skilled in hand-to-hand combat.

#26 Jazmine Nightshade

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

Jazmine is a one in a million.  She can and does use 100% of her brain.  She is what is known as a Hyper Intellect.  Because of her brain power and intellect, she thinks lightning fast, reacts lightning fat, and has developed psychic powers.  She doesn’t overwhelm people with them, her twisted sense of humor (and of right and wrong) allow her to “play” with people.

#26: Vista

He’s a bad guy who can shoot fire balls out of his hands and he uses swords sometimes, too (Father’s note: Not sure where the name came from, but I think it might have to do with the fact that Xavier and his older brother have been watching reruns of “That 70s Show” recently…)

Thanks, Xavier

#25 The Hydro-Viscositi (aka The Living Waves)

26 – Cutter by Beausephus + Son

| November 26, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME:  Cutter

DATE OF CREATION:  Summer 2011

CONCEPT:  “Cutter is a super hero with swords that he is super fast with.  He can cut and throw his swords, and sometimes has tricks in his swords like forcefields or a sword that can shoot stuff out of it.”

_________________________________

So when the mood strikes my son (and that is quite often) and he wants to make up “superguys”, “superdudes”, “supermans”… I pull out a bunch of templates I made for him and he picks out everything from the style of boots to the color scheme of the various costume options presented before him.  I then draw quick sketch, and he edits, adds, etc…  I then draw up the character and he hangs them in his room…if they meet his ultimate judgement.  Then I make him come up with a story for each character.

____________________________________________

For a while my kid would put Wolverine style maks on every character he came up with…and there were only so many re-imagined versions of that Hawkeye/Wolverine winged mask that I could come up with.  CUTTER is the sword-guy on my son’s super team… well, the good sword guy, there’s a suspect member of the team called NIGHT NINJA…   CUTTER is essentially responsible for keeping NIGHT NINJA in check…many sword fights that end in draws and mutual respect all around.

_____________________________

This post contains two versions of the character.  The first is in my usual “style” which is just an amalgamation of all of my influences that developed as doodle during High School and College with no real honed practice or attempt at skill…nothing is really different  or has dramatically changed over the past decade since then.  There’s aspects of this style that I like, but I am really unsatisfied with the hesitancy of my lines.  Lots of small , rounded details, overly rendered in my too big for small detailed style…lots of unnecessary layer work…  It looks okay, but it is hesitant.

The second version is an attempt to capture the simple line work in the vein of Kirby, Darwyn Cooke, Mike Oeming, and Mignola.  I was aiming for flatter, and cleaner with an attention to the simplicity of the lines and the throwback style costume rendering.  I’ve been really captivated for the last few months with Kirby’s ornamentation and the way he drew “tech” and equipment.  A Kirby sword looks like a Kirby sword.  The odd details of his machinery and almost Incan intricacy of his armor designs (Thor, New Gods, Eternals) are really speaking to me and for the first time in a lon time I am actively working on improving and shifting my aesthetic to what speaks to me now, rather than the habits I developed aping the style of 1990s.

Thanks for checking out my drawings and reading my ramblings…

#24 Verbatim

| November 25, 2011 | 2 Comments

Verbatim : status: heroine but rarely seen

Many within the neovidual community have yet to encounter Verbatim. She possesses the ability to solidify her thoughts of objects and animals. Verbatim does this by way of speaking the words and names of things she wishes to manifest. She must say the word to manifest the energies produced by her thoughts. She’s been spotted manifesting heavy tools that have saved people in various situations such as freeing them from car wreckage after an accident. Verbatim has also created animals that have carried or flown people out of burning buildings to safety.  The animals and objects Verbatim manifests are not sentient. They rely completely on her commands and are solidified extensions of her thoughts.

Day 25: Ghor The Ahnililator

| November 25, 2011 | 1 Comment

There are no concrete accounts of the origins of the being known as Ghor.  One of the most popular amoungst the spacefaring beings of the cosmos, is that he was born in and was nurtured in the heart of a star.  That his people were the basis of distilled tales of gods and spirits of a thousand world.  But whatever account to his origins, his name means the same to all who speak it out loud or hear it upon the whisper of the winds….WAR.  He sits at the helm of a manmade world ship that travels the cosmos in search of planets to wage it upon. Its inhabitants are the twisted, hell sundered beings of a million points in the Universe.  He renders all he comes accross to ash and husk.  He takes what he wants, and destroys the rest!  He is Ghor…To those who see the red and black monstrous omen in the sky it is the harbringer of sudden death or eternal woe…

#25 Weasel

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Weasel
What does it take to be a hero? Courage? Dedication? Obsession? Delusion? When his father would come home early in the morning, he would share his stories of fighting crime by night, and when the old man was found dead one morning, young Mack Carlson decided he would grow up to be a superhero, though he had no powers. He learned to prowl, hunt and fight. He used planning and deception to convince criminals and other heroes that he was more than a mere man. He was so obsessed he even began to train his nephew, who was barely old enough to walk. But will his world crumble apart when he discovers his father was a thug-for-hire who created stories to impress his only son?

G. Brett Williams #25 – Stephen Strickland (Rumspringa)

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments
The first villain the group encounters is energy tycoon and COO of Jupiter Power, Stephen Strickland.  Strickland is a Texas businessman and all around shark of a man.  He has climbed to second in command of the Jupiter Power company, a subsidiary of the global corporate/military group, Obsidian.  Obsidian is a centuries old secret society that has hidden itself inside the structure of a global corporation with its fingers in many pies, similar to Blackwater in our own world.  Stephen Strickland is aware, to a certain extent, of the secret society behind Obsidian, but he doesn’t know the full extent of that society’s scope or structure.  He does want to be a part of the society and uses his position at the top of Jupiter, an Obsidian company, to impress them.  Strickland’s ability to govern and produce results has been called into question though, as an increase in public support for alternative energy sources and more environmental oversight have thrown a monkeywrench into the Jupiter Power works.  Strickland is seen as a hardline supporter of fossil fuel, mainly because he made millions as a Texas oil baron.  Obsidian begins to see Strickland as something of a dinosaur, a man not capable of adapting to the future.  Strickland, desperate to retain his relevancy, gets a gift when he discovers Sarah and her abilities.  He believes that if he can somehow capture the girl, he can spirit her away and use her to launch a renaissance of cheap, renewable energy.  Strickland becomes the villain of the first arc.  He aggressively pursues Sarah, using everything in his power to do so.  He even goes so far as to kidnap and kill Sarah’s brother to try and influence the girl.  Strickland is defeated by Sarah.  This defeat leads Obsidian to cut their losses with Strickland.  For his service to the cause, they allow him to live, but they bankrupt him and completely erase his identity.  Strickland is left homeless and broken.

#22 Super Eric

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

#22 Super Eric (fantasy humor/superhero) Pajama Dragon (post #21) was inspired by my grand daughter Kim; #22 post is inspired by grandson Eric.  Eric’s magic phrase right now is “Mac and Cheese!” So when I heard this I imagined thunder and lightening and Eric turning into a super hero (ala Captain Marvel/Shazam).

“Is there an “R” on your shirt?” Another big thing with Eric is the letter “R”. First off, Eric and his twin sister Kim turned three years old last week. Also, big brother Ethan (who will turn five years old in a couple months) isgoing to pre-school. And with pre-school, Ethan is learning his ABCs. For some reason Eric ( who likes to imitate big brother in most things) looks at the alphbet and thinks the letter “R” is important. If you ask Eric how old he is, he’ll say…”R”.

#25 Eixonraider

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

Height:6’0 Weight:198 lbs. Age:27(321 in his sector ‘s years) Race:Bigatrian

#25: The Speeder

Thanks, Xavier

#24 “Supernicus”

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Beacon

To read a sketchy comic introduction to The Beacon featuring some horribly drawn stick figures, feel free to visit this photobucket album.

Here we see Supernicus testing out his new Walking Deathbot (Featuring optional laser targeting system and manual crank handle for optimum user control! Order now!).

At first glance, Supernicus looks like a harmless old guy– gray hair, glasses, and very, very short. However, Supernicus has a superpower: an intellect beyond genius, which he uses to invent nefarious devices that he then sells to common criminals or uses to commit crimes of his own. His crimes are planned out to even the smallest contingency, and always executed perfectly. He has devices that can stop any hero from laying a finger on him, making him practically unstoppable. In other words, Supernicus is a practically unheard of successful supervillain. At this point in his career, he only robs to show off his latest inventions, and the heroes don’t even make an attempt to stop him when they see him.

His latest plot, to rob Heroes Bank (exclusively serving those with secret identities) runs into an unexpected road bump in the form of The Beacon, just setting up her new secret identity’s account. Supernicus’ intellect is able to process exactly what’s happening as he is unable to stop himself from rescuing The Beacon from the scene of his own crime. He makes it his personal mission to find out more about her and possibly devise a way to destroy her, the only foe he can’t personally hurt.

Supernicus is so belligerent because he has trouble relating to people. He has no friends, because no one can keep up with him in conversation or really understands him as a person at all. His only solace from loneliness is keeping busy working on the latest project. He found that no one wanted to buy or use inventions unless they destroyed things, and had been used successfully in a public venue. So, Supernicus dedicated his life to committing crimes as a way of showcasing his advanced weaponry. He doesn’t know what to do with all the money he makes.

25 – Bastion by Beausephus

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME:  Bastion

DATE OF CREATION:  Early 1990s

CONCEPT:  A take on the shield wielding superhero, Bastions reflective armor pieces and shield absorb various forms of electromagnetic and solar radiation that he can refocus as short bursts of offensive energy blasts or blinding light energy.

______________________________

Every character who carries a shield will be compared to my favorite comic character of all-time, Captain America.  The circular shield is almost off-limits in terms of character design because the shape is so iconically linked to Capt. America.  If a new character carries a shield how long until that shield becomes an offensive tool and the creator is torn down by using the only weapon the character has – throwing a shield is as linked to Cap as the Bat-Signal is to Batman.

So what if a character who carried a shield could not throw it as a usual behavior?  What if the shield was too linked to the power structure, or the design of the shield was too bulky to be an aerodynamic weapon of choice?   So here’s Bastion, a shield bearing superhero whose reflective armor absorbs solar and various other energies that he refocuses as energy blasts of blinding light attacks.  His shield, also is a huge conduit for this absorption and so losing the shield means losing a huge reflective surface for his powers.  Als, his shield is thick and bears three large, halfed spheres in relief on the shield’s surface…collection modules for the energy…whatever justifies their presence best.

Bastion’s shield is a bludgeon and not a dynamic piece of engineering slicing through the air or through enemies.  He can charge the shield with his collected energies and use it as a battering ram, but the shield needs to be i contact with the character for the maneuver to work.  Bastion is  term that calls to mind defense and steadfast loyalty/protection.  Visually the character is thick and not acrobatic.  Bastion rooted and immovable and his power set allows him to physically get in between those he is defending and those he is attacking, being a physical defense as well as a physical threat.

So, I’ve been going through an artistic realization during this 30-Day challenge, and with this submission I’m really feeling the lack of practice over the past decade come through in my drawing.  I’ll post moe on this after the whole challenge is complete, but I’m not very happy with how this drawing looks and I need to start being more active in honing my craft if I am going to continue posting my work to the public like this.

Again, more on this later and perhaps a few additional posts journaling this crisis of self criticism…

As always, thanks for checking out my stuff…

Day 25 – Rusty Jones

| November 25, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rusty Jones, gamer extraordinaire
