29 Spindo Sword Fist by Beausephus + Son

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME:  Spindo Sword Fist

DATE OF CREATION:  November 2011

CONCEPT:  “Spindo is a robot with swords that he can use as swords and then put n his arms and make them spin around shoot off at stuff.  But he really likes to spin the swords around and scare bad guys.  His eyes glow.”

_______________________________

My son came home from school with a small picture made by tracing geometric shapes that he turned into a robot super-hero character. He wanted me to draw it.  So I gave it a try and then he offered edits with such encouraging comments such as, “No, Daddy, you’re not good at this,”  and “That’s not good.  It’s supposed to look like this (insert sound effects made by a four year old imitating explosions and what he thinks sword spinning robots sound like).”

After many attempts, here is the final version of Spindo Sword Fist.  My son still wants me to change the eyes.

Thanks for checking out our stuff.

#26 “Quick” Quique Rojas

| November 29, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: Quick and Gold Dust

Height: 4’ 11”

Body Type: Long arms, skinny, hasn’t quite grown into his shoes yet. Hitting puberty.

Hair: Black, slicked back kinda randomly.

Eyes: Dark brown, pretty much black. Hidden behind big glasses.

Race: Latino

Age: 6th grader

Attire: Quick tends to wear t-shirts and shorts, in the manner of most boys his age. (As pictured here in a shirt featuring a familiar logo.)

Powers: Quick is mildly precognitive and empathic. He occasionally has dreams of traumatic future events, which he is only sometimes able to prevent. He is a very good guesser. He can finish people’s sentences (and often does), and sometimes he feels what others are feeling even if they are far away by just thinking about them. These last couple skills get better the more he knows the person. Quick is only slightly abnormal, and someone like him could easily exist in the real world today without anyone knowing.

Personality: Quick is smart, like unbelievably smart, which makes him a little cocky. But generally he is sweet. He likes to share random trivia with his friends and large family, or, if none of them want to hear it, his pet catfish, Bark. Any time he has a dream about someone being in trouble, he tries to help that person. Only his mom and a couple of siblings know about his dreams.

Role in the story: One morning, Quick wakes up from a strange dream that he can hardly remember. He wakes up with a weight on his chest, and beneath both his blankets and his shirt finds the Golden Book. Quick is the Reader of the Golden Book, which means only he can even see what’s written inside. Once the book appears, strange things start to happen. People all over town are being threatened by dark shadowy figures called Lead Shadows.

Quick has a dream about a girl dying in a school bus crash when one of these shadows attacks. He saves the girl, Serena, and she becomes indebted to him. When next they meet, Quick reads to her from the Golden Book, and she becomes the Golden Guardian, sworn to protect the Golden Reader from the Lead Shadows. The unlikely duo fight off the shadows and search for the Leaden Book, which needs to be shut in order to stop the flow of shadows.

Day 29 – Twinkle

Twinkle, an 8 year old vigilante

Day 28: The Jack of Hades

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Thomas O’Bannon came to the US in 1847 following the events of The Irish Potato Famine.  He was only 12 years old, and was the only survivor of his family.  He grew up in the slums of The Five Points, and watched the crime and poverty that affected the neighborhood.  In 1852, a 17 year old Thomas was walking home with his fiance from a local theatre, when they were attacked by thugs and his fiance killed.  Thomas, not getting anywhere with corrupt police, or political authorities, decided to adopt a mask and became the first known vigilante known as THE JACK OF HADES.  From 1852-1862 he patroled and made legend as a gang buster in New York City.  In 1862 Thomas was drafted into the Union Army, served as an enlisted infantry man, while occasionally donning the Jack of Hades costume.  In 1867 he married, then moved to San Francisco in 1872.  The Jack of Hades was not seen until 1888, when Thomas’s son Jacob O’Bannon adopted the moniker.  Jacob’s family left San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake and moved to Chicago.  Where his son Michael became the third Jack of Hades, and did battle with the Organized crime elements there as well as being a founding member of the superhero group, the Alliance from 1920-1946 when he passed the title onto his son Richard.  Richard was crippled by an thug for hire named The Hyena in 1972, and passed it to his son Edward, who moved the family to Washington DC, and took up the role there until 1990, when his son Johnathan became the last male of the family to hold the mantle.  The Jack of Hades at this point was one of the few non-registered masks to still operate in light of the Metahuman prohibition Act.  Being that not only does he have to fear the criminal element, but local and federal authorities as well!

#20 The Outsorceror

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Since his childhood in Mumbai, Vinod Patel knew he had been given gifts that most mortals lacked. His affinity to the mystic arts made him different. He was clairvoyant, a remote viewer, empathic, & even able to conjure up illusions. He wanted to use these abilities for the betterment of mankind. He wanted to make a difference. That’s why he applied to the International Union of Superheroes. On the application form, Vinod very plainly put “The Magic Man” the line marked “code name,” unaware that a man in Dover, New Jersey already had laid claim to that moniker. That’s when a very insensitive processing clerk at the Union decided to take matters into his own hands. When Vinod got his official Union card, it was stamped with the name Outsorceror. He was not pleased.

He did happen to hold a day job at a call center, but that was entirely besides the point. A defamation law suit is still pending. Infuriated, he has yet to join up with the International Union of Superheroes in an official capacity, only acting as a consultant on magical matters occasionally. He’s continued to work at his day job. Scorned, he has begun to daydream about the world of supervillainy.

When the 30Characters started this year, I was really digging what I saw DC Stuelpner doing with his superheroes with kind of punny names. They were awesome. I decided to give it a shot, but didn’t fair nearly as well. The two names I ended up with were rather unfortunate. This was one. The other will get posted soon. Maybe. It the guilt doesn’t stop me.

#28 Sinister Goatee

Sinister Goatee

Jay Walker is just a tired aging man trying to live out his late-middle years in quiet. Unfortunately he has a sinister goatee. He tries to cut it, but its evil is too powerful and will not be severed. The goatee yearns to rob banks, flip off old women and shank fools who look at him funny. Sometimes you’ll see the goatee in a wild shoot out with the cops, an exhausted and helpless Mr. Walker plodding along in tow.

#28 Porcelain

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Porcelain, the Femme Fatale of the Collection Agency… Her Collect-o-mania is related to porcelain dolls, masks, pottery and the like… brazenly un-apologetically so, she is the only member of the Collection Agency that does not wear anything to mask her appearance. It’s uncertain how far she will go to further the aims of Collect-o and his group, sometimes it seems she has joined simply to find a community that embraces her and her obsessions as “normal”.

#28 – Heidi Hands

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 28 - Heidi Hands by George Ward

Heidi has huge hands and favours bare knuckle boxing, but she will wear gloves when in the ring.  She is a rival of Dianne (Day 24) and tries to prove she is the better fighter every chance she gets.  She ran away from home at a young age and grew up in the streets where she learned to fight and survive.  She is not opposed to cheating but is also smart enough to not get caught when she does.  She uses brut force over skill and agility, which means she’s dangerous but no match for a skilled fighter like Dianne.

#28 Superafro

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Yes, I’m late on this one. Read on.

Superafro is a superhero with a 1970’s mentality and his swagger remind people of a Bootsy Collins without the wardrobe. He has the power to fight crime with some punch and kick action. His indentity is Samuel Jones, a loner in life and a fan of the 1970’s. He discovered a Afro wig one day and put it on , only to discovered it has some abilities within it. When he has it on, he becomes Superafro.

Height:6’1 Weight:198 Lbs. Age:27

Powers:

The powers are in the wig. All he can do is say anything 70’s centric and the wig can do the rest.

Personality:

70’s way of thinking, positive additude, confident.

Cyborg Hill

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments
Simple Cartoon King of Destruction Hill

"Don't call me Hank Henshaw!"

Destroyed by the more cynical, tortured peers of his field, Cyborg Hill was rebuilt with esotirical alien alloys and is now powered solely by propane.

“If you weren’t my son, I’d hug you.  You, uh, you’re my son, you know, with everything that entails… feelings of fondness and more… You know what I mean, don’t you, boy? ”

After his destruction of Coast City, Cyborg Hill has had a spotty career as a spacefaring villain with occassional status changes.

“Ginseng tea?? I’m not gonna get hopped up on dope!  Who is calling me a liar, you or the machine? ‘Cause I need to know whose ass to kick! “

Agent Sophie

Sleepy farty super sleuth golden lab

Ball? Squirrel?

Agent Sophie is known for her attention to detail and her perserverence in the field.  Junior agents often are interested in working with and learning about the world through partnerships.

“You see, it’s time to throw the ball.  Ball.  Ball.  See?  Ball.  Ball.  Now.  Throw.”

Certainly not known for gruffness or fierceness, Agent Sophie is a big fan of the simple things, and occassional directness in conversation.

“Now let’s throw the ball.  Ball.  Now.  Let’s throw the ball.  Ball.”

#13 & #14 Las Hermanas de La Sombras Vigilantes

| November 28, 2011 | 3 Comments

They are driven by revenge. People might credit them with cleaning up the streets of the world’s murder capital, one criminal after another. But public safety’s just a side effect. It’s revenge they’re after.

—-

A deeper exploration to an idea I had a very long time ago. I’m calling them Magda & Isa respectively. Originally, I had this on my list of things, but at first thought I wouldn’t do it when I noticed there were several other Day of the Dead styled characters. But the more & more I thought of it, the cooler & cooler I thought it would be to have murderous sister vigilantes. So here we are. I don’t know why I made one extra girly, while giving the other one a mariachi sort of get up. I’m happy with these, even if I feel like weak sauce having to count the duo individually. I think the thing I regret more is putting them off, & not cleaning & coloring this one for full effect. If I ever do go back & color, this might be the first one.

Mandarin Peel uses her nature abilities to blend into a crowd for the purposes of espionage.

“Communication not so hot.  For your safe, please don’t bring the stranger girt into your room.  The girt is dangerous, it will hurt your life.”

Formerly a Chinese supermodel, now one of the most sought-after espionage practitioners, Mandarin is now also known as the “Avenging Ghost.”

#25 “Magnum Man”

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Universe/Storyline: The Beacon

To read a sketchy comic introduction to The Beacon featuring some horribly drawn stick figures, feel free to visit this photobucket album.

Magnum Man is another hired hero, somewhat like Captain Curveball. His powers also place him in the generic hero category. Magnum Man represents the NRA, and always carries a couple of signature magnum pistols, which he doesn’t use much but shows off often. Occassionally, Magnum will fire off a round to show off, or stop a bad guy in some indirect way, but he would never shoot someone (it’s written into his contract that he has to fire his gun every so often, but if he hits a person he won’t get paid). Magnum Man is very fond of puns regarding his anatomy: his arms are his guns and a certain part of him is apparently “magnum-sized”.

He is another in a line of unregistered heroes that The Beacon and Searchlight aim to track and tag. Currently, he is actually on the run from the law, after accidentally shooting a civilian in the leg.

When they eventually find him, The Beacon and Searchlight discover that Magnum Man has a softer side buried underneath all of that manly, gun-toting energy. He doesn’t even like guns, and only used them because the NRA was the only group offering him a contract, and their contract said he had to carry and use guns. He feels terrible about shooting the person, and agrees to go to court and serve time if necessary. The gesture is rare among generic heroes who commit crimes, and noted by the media. After this burst of attention, Magnum Man gets a new contract right away.

#28: Landslide

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Real Name: Jason Barton

Age: 19

Height: 5’7″

Weight: 156 lbs.

Powers: Able to control sections of ground and earth

Character info: When I came up with the idea for Landslide, I visually had his appearance in my head for awhile. I knew he would be a character that just wore regular clothes, not being someone who wanted to conform to a hero/villain look. That also explains a lot about his personality; he walks the line between hero and villain. He uses his powers to benefit himself, but rarely hesitates if he sees someone in trouble. I have a few different ideas of where I might use Landslide, but rest assured, you’ll see more of him soon…

#24 – Daniel King

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

Flying. It’s probably one of the most popular super-powers out there. When you ask people what power they’d like to have, they often choose flight.

And why wouldn’t they? Flying is freedom, it’s the ability to go wherever you want without having to deal with such provincial problems as gas or bus fare. You have three dimensions all to yourself and vast, wide-open skies just calling your name.

For Daniel King, flying is just another way to get around. And not even the best way. It’s cold up there, for one thing, and windy as all hell. You can’t carry anything much bigger than a backpack, it’s hard to find your way around, and there are bugs all over the place. That’s not including the power lines you might smack into, airplanes that get really possessive about their airspace, and the occasional government scare. All in all, flying is nice, but it’s a “sometimes” mode of transportation.

His friend Jeff doesn’t think so, though, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get Daniel to bring him up in the air.

Read his story here: Up, Up, and Away

20111128-163815.jpg

Another fancy-suit-wearing alien mobster, this time of the big and Harry variety. I like this one better than Zarnix, I think. There aren’t enough harry, fat aliens, if you ask me. Maybe this guy will be Zarnox’s boss… Or rival… Or both?

28 – Wild Demon by Beausephus

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME:  Wild Demon

DATE OF CREATION:  1992

CONCEPT:  A former superhuman hero from the 1800s turns against the mystic organization that granted him abilities and attempts to steal the magic weaponry he was armed with.  As punishment, he is allowed to escape but he is cursed to live for centuries.  the magic weapons turn to liquid and encase him in a semi-rigid shell that causes him excruciating pain.  The magic “skin” grants him limited superhuman endurance and strength.  He is able to relieve the pain by willing the “skin” to free him for a limited amount of time, but every moment he is free from pain more time is added to his tortured eternal life.  Wild Demon is attempting to destroy the mystic organization that he feels wronged him, by any means necessary, through anyone or anything that he feels is in his way.

__________________

The unfortunately named “Wild Demon” was a middle school Venom clone, Venom being very popular at the time.  The orignal character’s orogin is essentially the same, but his appearance was a smooth black, slick body suit a la Venom.  Wild Demon was driven mad and had increased strength and could drip acid from his hands.

This re-imagined version takes on a more “encrusted” look to the mystic skin hardening over his human body rather than a viscous sheath.

I liked drawing this version f the character.  it was an attempt to give some semblance of originality to an originally derivative character design

Thanks to everyone for their comments and support.  I appreciate everyone who even checks out my stuf for a moment.

27 – The Martinet

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

20111128-154238.jpg

Another villain for Insomniac. Like Chaos, this is another complete re-imagining of an old character, basing the new design mostly on the name alone. Martinet means “a strict disciplinarian” and is especially used in reference to the military, so this Martinet has a military background (hence the uniform) whereas the original was basically just Lady Deathstrike from X-Men, but with a whip that came out of her cyborg hand. I did keep the cyborg hand this time but that’s about it.

#24 – Zarnox

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

20111128-150529.jpg

Felt like drawing an alien this week. Also needed more villains for Insomniac. So I thought, why not set her and her city apart from Batman and Gotham by having a sub culture if stranded aliens living there. Of course they would be a misunderstood minority and done of them, like Zarnox here, would turn to crime. I like seeing freaks like him in smart suits smoking cigarettes.

#25 – Tundra Queen

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

She was born with her abilities and was born in Alaska. She also has superhuman strength.

#24 – Camo

| November 28, 2011 | 0 Comments

He’s sorta like a male limited version of Mystique with a mix of the new Ultimate Spider-Man.

#23 – Sparrow

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

I was reading some of the new Teen Titan comics and never liked the new Red Robin designs. Ironic how I based a bit of Sparrow’s costume from his. The wings can retract and expand. They’re mainly for steering. She has a tiny rocket backpack that gives her power to fly.

#20 – Catalyst

I think my biology homework was getting to me while I was thinking of this character. He’s practically a catalyst in human form.

#27 – Eebull the Westler

| November 27, 2011 | 0 Comments

Day 27 - Eebull the Wrestler by George Ward

Eebull is a genetical altered human with some bull DNA.  His violent temper and hard forehead (with horns) have had his life difficult.  He was breed to be a warrior but he was hard to control and would disobey orders whenever he felt like it.  Discharged, he was given a place to live and a small income to survive on.  Bored, he eventually joined the wrestling ring and did well for himself.
