#16 – The High Matriach
The High Matriach is in the unique position to be simultaneously the most feared, but most necessary mortal in this Galaxy.  Mortal may be stretching it a bit admittedly, she has a prospective lifespan consisting of most of the rest of the duration of the Universe, and due to the prophecy-curses of her species  is unavailable but by another member of her kind, of which there are very few.  She is cruel, callous and controls the largest army in the Galaxy.  However, this army is also the only thing stopping the things outside our Galaxy getting in…
While most earth literature focuses on the idea of Earth begin invaded or destroyed, the challenge for the Matriach is that might happen to our Galaxy. Â When a Universe dies, not all that was born of it necessarily dies too, and therefore are ancient even as our own Universe forms around us, and long to colonize the new Solar Systems as their own and recreate their worlds. Â Most of the time they succeed. Â Currently the Matriach fights a war on 3 fronts – against the titanic armoured Ur-Gods of Xzar, the endlessly replicating Vordanian Null-men and the hordes infected by the evil Sentient PX3k12 Virus. Â The Matriach may burn worlds, knowingly send a trillion to their death in an unwinnable battle and break apart the very fabric of the universe itself for a victory… Â but the alternatives are worse….
#12 – New Stalingrad
Near to the peak of the Cold War, some truly bizarre creations were being unleashed on the World, hugest and most lingering of which was New Stalingrad – a huge walking armored City. The logic of its designers being that a robotic city could move out of the way of nuclear attacks and be very difficult to pin down with long range bombardment. Â Hundreds of Soviet Citizens were moved in to operate the city and support it with farms in the upper tiers, a small squadron of fighter jets, Â all the power provided by a large nuclear reactor and three medium range atomic warheads. Â It then proceeded to wander around the most deserted parts of Siberia keeping out the way of cities which it has continued to do ever since – the robotics technology at the time wasn’t necessarily planned far enough ahead with a way of deactivating it, and much as there is a general consensus that the people inside should be freed, no one wants to provoke a fairly dim robot armed with atomic bombs…
#11 – Oceanic Leviathan
Normally when people consider the horrible terror of Giant Monsters reaching earth through portals in the sea bed, they have something very specific in mind – a big dragon-esque beast that charges to the nearest city and tries to kill everyone. Â In actual fact, while there is certainly a precedent for that, by far the mot destructive creature to come through portals is the Oceanic Leviathan, a shy herbivore. Â There are several reasons for this – firstly herbivores tend to be more densely packed into a habitat than carnivores, so more come through. Â Secondly, a giant almost unkillable grazer quickly devastates an ecosystem where a giant carnivore just starves. Â Oceanic Leviathans particularly dive deep into sea trenches when startled, so killing them as soon as they are detected is of vital global importance given they can eat entire kelp beds a day.
Day 26 Scramjet
Scramjet spent years involved in aeronautics research looking to build the smallest, fastest true-flight experience. The result was the Scramjet suit which utilized a combination of things like hang-glider tech and solar panels to lift the suit to the necessary altitude, and a compression jet using frozen fuel. (Updated 12/2 with a colored image!)
Day 24 Newsbot Crew
The newsbot crew is responsible for being able to get anywhere in the city to offer the fastest coverage of events as they unfold. In the crew is Sky-eye, the flying news cam, Spot, the rolling news cam, and Rover, the transforming newsbot who can wheel about or go bipedal to get the story.
Day 23 The Dealer
The Dealer is an other-worldly being traveling the starpaths and trading with everyone he encounters. The Dealer is a firm believer that a deal should be equitable to both sides, and he has built up a long list of loyal customers and traders. Because of that, woe to anyone who tries to rob or con the Dealer. He won’t get you, but his customers certainly will! (Updated 12/2 with an colored image!)
2013 Challenge: Day 30:- FIREPLUG
The Tiny Titan of Terror helps me round up my third year of the challenge! Â Thanks to everybody who participated, you guys inspire me, and I’m going to spend the time between now and next year poring over your stuff! Special thanks to #TylerJames for getting the ball rolling, and keeping it rolling.
#30 Miss Flame
Caught in a laboratory fire Emily was covered in mutagen chemicals that changed her physical structure and embedded the ability to create flames at will without burning herself. At first she used her newfound abilities to try being a super hero but her rather focused and limited powers proved to be ineffective at fighting most crime.
Emily took her abilities to Las Vegas where she now packs in a capacity crowd every Thursday night with her pyro-daredevil act.
Wow. Â 30 characters!!! Â Thanks everyone for such a wonderful experience!!
#9 & #10 Klimple & Wif: Waste Disposal Associates
There are certain things that you don’t really ever want to keep around. Hazardous byproducts, ancient relics, One Direction paraphenalia, etc. That’s where guys like Klimple & Wif come in. It’s their job to take unwanted materials from one dimension & safely deposit them in another, effectively eliminating whatever that item was from that original dimension’s plain of existence. You got a problem with that? You gotta take it to their bosses, Klimple & Wif are just “associates.” Aside from booming business, both Klimple & Wif’s lives have been on a bit of an upswing. Klimple just won a landmark legal action that grants him permission to wear his father’s carved skull as battlemask in the workplace, as is his cultural tradition, while Wif has finally found a proper course of treatment that stops his bioluminescent acne. — Had the idea of interdimensional trashmen & it got weirder & weirder from there. Probably in the same story universe as the first & last character I did last year. Chances are I’m definitely not hitting 30 tomorrow but let me get out the last couple of guys I was working on anyhow (I’ll have another one after this). Like I said, something came up & I had to prioritize this month. And I feel lame but it is what it is. And I’m still looking to reach my goal of 52 characters for the whole year. Those will eventually be posted on my tumblr (along with a color version of this), & then eventually my blog at some point, so keep checking back.
