For all this is rough, I like it better than the previous one – this dude is shadow, can make shadows, and can make tiny shadow versions of himself.

#02 – The Wandering Heir

| November 3, 2012 | 0 Comments

The Wandering Heir is a ghost who is trapped in the land he haunts.  He was the oldest son of the founder of a business empire.  His death is a mystery and he wishes that no one ends up in the same situation.  He is a benevolent spirit.

#02 Man of Sorrows

| November 3, 2012 | 2 Comments

The Man of Sorrows is a sorceror who sought to trade his soul to an assembly of demons in exchange for immortality and incredible power. The demons, in a rare capricious moment of mingled mercy and cruelty, let him keep his soul instead. So he feels the full weight of all the evil he does, the suffering he causes, the certain knowledge that what he does makes the world a darker, meaner, lonelier place. The tears and pervasive aura of sadness comes from this weight, but it does not deter him from his pursuit of power.

He has now been alive for eight hundred years, but due to the demons’ deal, the emotional toll of the murderous soul eating, belief vampirism, and unspeakable rituals he must perform to attain whatever equivalent of godhood he seeks, has not dimmed one solitary bit. It hounds him now, drives him, has made him even more merciless. Those who know best hide their faces from this twisted messiah. Good friend, hope that you never hear those dragging yet persistent footsteps behind you. Pray your ears never know the sound of imps teeth grinding wet spectral flesh. Pray you never hear that voice full of the centuries’ tears, whispering in a trembling tenor “I’m so, so sorry….”

#2 Punching Julie

| November 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

Julie is an Egyptian investigator who’s goal is to hunt down and capture the woman known only as “She Who Talks to Shadows” (see day 1)

She is a trained hand to hand combatant, which along with her long reach (she’s 6′ 5″), makes her a dangerous woman to anger.

She doesn’t believe in magic and thinks her target is a serial killer with a weird occult obsession.

Determined to prove herself a worthy agent, she will not give up until her target is neutralized one way or another.  She is trained to kill if necessary, but her main goal is to bring her target to justice.

Day 2: Bog

| November 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

Day 2: Bog

the water leaper

Bog (or Bogthe before he decided that the “the” was too bothersome) is a water leaper. Bog is a very traveled and cultured being,  there being very few waters (magical, salt, fresh or otherwise) that he has not swam in.

When preparing for travel, he swells himself with water and expands. The expansion cause his bat-like appendages to widen out and allow him to leap incredible distances. Once he is airborne, he releases the water the from two gaps in his bottom which is usually covered by wing-like fins. Now light, he glides the last few miles before starting again.

I have heard that “Bog”, besides referencing to a swamp-like area, also means “lukewarm” in Irish Gaelic. This is very appropriate name for this flying amphibian because many feel lukewarm about Bog. Its not that he is not social or entertaining because he can ramble on for hours if inspired to. He is just the type of being that always has a second plot behind spending his time with you.

You see, being a water leaper, Bog is obsessed with eating and is ALWAYS hungry for some reason or another. Bog loves seafood (his favorite being crab and other crustaceans) and would do anything to get more. This has caused him to get into much trouble with local fisherman and others, one event even involving a poor foolish man who happened to fall into the wrong ocean wearing a lobster suit.

As of recently, Bog has become a good friend to a local seller.  In his pimple-like bumps, he carries salt samples of the  water- bodies that he has been (as a means of adaptation). He has began to trade his salts with the seller for crabs and other meals. He also gives the seller information about other “exotic” means of finding product and life advice…in exchange for more food of course.

His current goal is to learn hebrew so he may convince Mikhail to cough over some of his delectable crayfish friends.

#2 Clint “Iron Knuckles” Lynch

| November 2, 2012 | 5 Comments

It’s just another day in the post-apocalyptic wasteland for Clint Lynch. After dispatching a herd of radioactive zombies with a chemical fire, he fended off a small group of cannibals with his trusty Smith & Wesson M29. Now, down to his last bullet, Clint is playing cat-and-mouse with a lobster-clawed mutant.

Day 2 – Mano Dura

| November 2, 2012 | 2 Comments

Mano Dura is the closest thing to a zombie cowboy you’ve heard of!
He just doesn’t die! Mano Dura got his nickname for never getting a shot wrong, with such a steady hand.
Born from criminal parents, he became one himself, and fighting officers gave him his so feared aim.
One day however, upon falling on a trap, he’s surorunded by the local police, except instead of executing him on sight, his punishment was to get rid of a mohawk tribe that was giving the village headaches. Mano Dura overdid it – singlehandedly killed every single person from the tribe, women and children alike, but that wouldn’t go unpaid for – once again instead of being wished dead, on their least breath the tribe’s leader cursed him to live eternally with his sins – his soul to carry his bones eternally.

Some say he can be spotted even nowadays, riding his long time friend’s carcass, the Red Hot Star.

Jorgumandr,Avatar of the World Serpent

| November 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

Story: The Avatar of the World Serpent belongs to an apocalyptic cult called Ragnarok, who believe that to save the world, you must destroy the old world in order to bring about a new world. Jorgumandr belongs to the Sect that believes of destruction by nature through poison or hurricanes. This sect of Ragnarok is responsible for numerous gas attacks around the world, but few have ever survived an encounter with their Champion, The Jorgumandr Avatar. This Avatar has either attempted or succeeded in poisoning water supplies, destruction of dams or levees, and releasing airborne pathogens in the name of Ragnarok. The Alchemist and other Dee Agents have done battle with the “World Serpent” Avatar and other champions from the Ragnarok cult, as their champions each possess a Philosopher Stone fragment that the Agents seek to reclaim for the Order.

Abilities: Using the Philosopher Stone: The Avatar is capable of Blood Alchemy, using one’s own blood to transmute or manipulate the properties within the blood. This can range into blood whips, projectiles, acids, shrapnel shards, and bloody blades. The stone helps accelerate blood regeneration to counter the effects of anemia and increase the stamina of its wielder. The Avatar demonstrates a knowledge of mechanics, particularly in bombs, poisons, and in electrical structures, to better suit their ends and beliefs. The Serpent Avatar is capable of close quarters combat, but is truly proficient at mid-to-long ranged combat , probably to better ensure his/her escape.

Inception: I actually based this character from an old monster drawing I did in high school and it started off as a fairly generic aquatic monster, until I refined it more in College, particularly the head. I developed the idea of blood transfusions and transmutations thanks to Fullmetal Alchemist, after hearing the numerous components found in blood and to explain away the character’s inability to experience fatigue from blood loss. I may also modify its abilities further after witnessing the horrifying ability known as Blood Bending from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, as such a trait may work with one who can manipulate his/her own blood.

I had some paintings of a railroad I had done with nighttime lighting and I thought it would be fun to add a troll in it. Not an ‘under-the-bridge’ troll; more like the trolls in Troll Hunters. This is the thumbnail I took to the next stage.

#1 She Who Talks to Shadows

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

She Who Talks to Shadows is a powerful sorceress who is trying to revive an ancient evil for reasons only she understands.  She carries a cage filled with shadows that contains a horror so disturbing looking at it can drive you insane.

She was freed from her entombment in a pyramid in Egypt by an archeologist who was looking for ancient artifacts and refused to believe the stories about the curse on the tomb.  Now he is the unwilling slave of the sorceress who uses him to learn about the strange world she now finds herself in.

Day 1: Mikhail

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Mikhail the golem

Mikhail is a golem formed out of mud-based clay. Mikhail was made by a despite rabbi who ran a synagogue in a small village snuck in the middle of thick woods. It is unsure what trouble the rabbi was preparing for when he formed the poor unfinished creature, but the synagogue has long vanished and Mikhail was left to wander the woods with no master. Spending years in the woods and having a body contracted of fertile damp earth, it took little time for Mikhail’s body to began to spout all types of floral bits, fungal patches and random sticks. In his month, under a patch of moss and branches,is a tiny scroll with the words אמת and some other letters.

Mikhail, being golem and very simple minded, does seem to have many goals in his bleak existence. He also lacks most emotions, mostly out of not having the brains for complicated feelings. One can not say it is a gentle creature because one is not sure if he knows what gentle is.

Despite these facts , Mikhail can understand simple orders (if given in hebrew) and well do so to “help” others. Also, though one can not say he actually enjoys it (or is capable of enjoying anything), Mikhail seems attracted to water and finds means to remain wet. Sometimes, in attempt to suck up moisture, Mikhail accidentally takes in small river organisms like crayfish and leeches.

He has even been known to actively collect fragrant plants to grow on himself in order to trade these fresh, slightly magical flowers for flavored/scented water. This deal is often taken advantage of by a local seller….

Presentation and Day 1 Character – Cortex “Lucky” Mite

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi there! My name is Aluísio! I’m a returning participant from the 2010 edition, for which I wasn’t able to complete haha! So let’s try my luck again! I’m best know for my work as the artist for Image Comics’ Grim Leaper series. I hope you enjoy some of my own creations!

To start with:

Lucky is a special acari species. Very inteligent, it feeds of brains, and no, it’s not a zombie, but does have a symbiotic parasite  lifestyle. The more it feeds, the more smart it grows, and the bigger it gets. The species is literally immortal as long it can find a new host to be a parasite of.
The most famous Cortex Mite in the universe is known as Lucky – the right hand of a gallactic mob leader. Guess what? Some of these mites get so big it’s essentially a fully grown brain – Lucky has taken over an entire human body’s brain, and commands it as a hollow shell. Lucky has been living this way for 5 hundred years already. His plans include taking over his own boss, possibly changing bodies whenever he catches him asleep!

#1 Demon (Retired)

#1) Klaus

| November 1, 2012 | 10 Comments

Klaus was born with osteogenesis imperfecta. In an attempt to escape his fragile body, he made a deal with the devil. As with most of these deals, you never really get what you ask for, and he was turned into an undying skeleton with brittle bones.

#1 Rudy

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Rudy is a character in a hypothetical story set in a post apocalyptic universe.  Earth is still inhabited by survivors, but humans search beyond the planet for other habitable planets. Rudy is human, however, all surviving humans, due to consequences of the Final War, must be sustained by life support suits which keeps them alive in the absence of a fully developed body, which usually means they have no skull to protect their brain.

I’m a creative writing major with a minor in film. Into all things geek, a hopeless romantic, and into chick-flicks. Looking forward to the challenge and seeing everyone’s entries 🙂
