Get it? He’s a ghost & he’s a pimp. Did I lay that on thick enough for you? Nah but in all seriousness, I was going to call him the first name, but a bunch of bad ghost pimp names came to me while drawing. Sorry there’s not much in the way of a back story, but I figured it was pretty self explanatory.

Again hoping I can catch up over this weekend. We shall see.

Jerry Khaba brother of the pharaoh, was buried alive with the fallen king’s body. He was a man of looks, fashion and self preservation. He loved tanning, and he wasn’t finished his tan when he was locked in Khaba’s tomb. So he used sorcery to keep himself alive so that when his brother’s tomb was raided – hopefully not long after the ceremony – he could bask in the sun one more time before passing. Only 4660 years passed when the tomb was unsealed, Jerry was so excited! After all the scientist were scared away,  taking one step into the sun, he was overwhelmed by its brightness. He went to block what eyes he had left from the sun, he burst into dust. The above picture is a depiction of what his last moment was like… total and utter euphoria.

| November 8, 2012 | 0 Comments

This man stands behind the Kin’s throne whenever the monarch is present. He can easily be mistaken for a advisor or ambassador, until you see the chains binding his arms. He never says a word, to the king or any others. But he is always there. Some speculate that he is the prince from whom the king usurped the throne, others believe he was the first opponent to be defeated by their king. The strange thing is although the King has been ruling for almost 40 years the prisoneer behind the throne has not aged a day.

#3 Buzz Ellerby: Stuntmanimal

Eugene “Buzz” Ellerby was a prominent stuntman in the 1970’s. An established motorcycle daredevil, he was always looking to up the ante with each death-defying feat. While scouting new jump locations, Buzz stumbled upon Brokejaw Canyon. “Oh, I’m crossin’ this sumbitch,” he laughed. “Or die tryin’.” Word spread & his stunt team went to work constructing ramps, completely unaware they were on sacred ground.

They were confronted by members of the local Chinulpa tribe, who at first asked quite nicely for him to reconsider the location. But Buzz’s mind was already made up. The back & forth continued. On a daily basis, the elders would show up & begin to sternly insist that he leave. But Ellerby was dead set in making the jump. When it became apparent that the daredevil wasn’t going to budge, one of the tribe’s shaman decided to take matters into his own hands. He showed up the day before with a thermos, & said he would convince the rest of the tribe to back off, but only if Buzz would drink a warrior’s bravery potion, as was their custom. With the deadline quickly approaching, Buzz reluctantly decided to appease the man & downed the contents of the thermos. The man smiled & Buzz handed it back. Unbeknownst to him, the bitter concoction wasn’t for bravery at all.

The day of the big jump came. A crowd of thousands had shown up to watch & bake in the hot desert sun. TV cameras were there, at the ready. Buzz warmed up his bike, doing a couple of practice laps before heading up the ramp. With all eyes on him, he revved the bike & started to careen down the ramp. Suddenly, something went wrong. Before even reaching the trough of the jump, Buzz had come off the bike, skidding the rest of the way down on his knees. As his crew rushed to his side they realized Buzz was… different. In fact, he was no longer a man, but some sort of half beast.

Ever since, Buzz Ellerby has been cursed. In moments of high stress, he begins to change. Sometimes he resembles a wolf or coyote, other times a falcon. He’s even become snakelike. Or developed a scorpion’s shell. Pretty much any animal from the desert ecosystem. Each transformation lasts for a couple hours. And while he maintains some level of awareness, there’s no telling what will cause him to change, or what he’ll become. And while he clings onto the last shreds of his stunt career, his curse keeps getting in the way.

—-

Once again, I got caught up with the detail & ended up taking a lot longer than I had hoped. That said, I’m pretty pleased with the result. This one came from a half formed idea on my list of jump-off character prompts. I had the line “Werewolf Stuntman” on there, but took it a little further. I figured it’d make a pretty bitchin’ 70’s procedural. Buzz travels from town to town, using a combination of his daredevil & shapeshifting skills to right wrongs over the course of 44 minutes before moving along. I probably should have tore up his suit a little more, but I figured it was something kind of durable, given his occupation. Other characters are in the works. Hope to get to a point where I can finish & post more than just one at a time.

#07 – Hype Eater

| November 8, 2012 | 4 Comments

Lies. They bend reality, run roughshod over time, and give the Almighty a rip-roarin’ headache. Fortunately, the Hype Eater exists. A meta-carrion creature drifting in from a technicolor hellscape, the dross of the sentient mind is its favorite food. It cruises along the edges at an acute angle to reality, feeding off of our lies, advertising, hype, spin and bullshit. Delicious.

It has a symbiotic relationship with the mysterious emissaries it secretes in search of the newest hype. They are fully sentient beings from our point of view, but to the Hype Eater they are more like bacteria; the prevailing theory is that they act as a sort of extensible immune system, while the Hype Eater itself protects them other primeval Devourers lurking outside of time.

The Hype Eater is visible to voyagers on certain psychedelic chemical cocktails, but is most often glimpsed at the edges of consciousness by sleep-deprived, overworked copywriters and designers, who sense the pulsing intelligence feeding off of them as they desperately struggle to put a shiny patina of beauty and craft onto  marketing claims both banal and audacious.

DAY SEVEN: Black Mamboo

| November 7, 2012 | 0 Comments

NAME: Black Mamboo
SECRET IDENTITY: Modeste Delphine
LOCATION: Limbo
POWERS: A dancer in life, Modeste was destined for fame and fortune until her great-grandmother’s ghost began visiting her in the dead of night, calling her to be a Voudon high priestess. Modeste tried her best to ignore the apparition, but the old crone was too powerful, too insistent. Modeste tried to leave new Orleans to avoid this unwanted path, but her bus was struck by a train, killing her and everyone else on board. Ironically, on her death all the powers she didn’t want in life awakened and kept her from passing on to eternal rest.

#7 Bodil Lockhart.

| November 7, 2012 | 0 Comments

At the tender age of six Bodil Lockhart witnessed the murder of both her parents. They had not exactly been pillars of the community but they had loved Bodil more than anything. Her father, Danny was a small time player in the mob, a thug, a bodyguard but a loving dad. Her mother, Danny’s childhood sweetheart, loved him despite what everyone said about him.

Times were tough and Danny had been skimming some cash from his boss, Carver, who quickly found out. Carver was a small fish in a big pond, and so he wanted to make an example out of Danny, make a name for himself. He hired the best hitman around, the man only spoken about in whispers.

He hired Wolf Down.

On a warm autumn evening when everyone was asleep, Wolf Down broke in to the Lockhart home. Bodil woke up to hear the last cry of her mother. She snuck from her bed and crept towards her parents’ room; the door was ajar and the carpet was covered in blood. As she looked into the room, the large red eyes of a skeleton thin, albino white man in a suit met hers. His blood smeared mouth curled into a smile as he tilted his head to one side. He spoke to her once.

“I was only paid to kill two. And I am full now.”

That was all Bodil remembered of the man she later learnt to be Wolf Down. The police had never found him, or her parent’s bodies, and the case had gone cold years ago. Bodil hadn’t given up, just grown up. She spent the next twelve years of her life tracking this hitman. She learnt self-defense mixed martial arts, she learnt to fence and shoot. She trained for revenge.

During this time, Boss Carver had risen through the mob ranks and was now running the town. Word on the street said that Wolf Down was Carver’s right hand man, never seen with him publically but always taking care of the dirty work. Bodil decided she needed to become that dirty work. Causing trouble for Carver in any way that she could soon meant that she was the top of Wolf Down’s list.

He broke into her home like he had her parents’ – but this time, she was waiting for him. The gaunt white figure entered her room. Bodil shot him clear in the chest, clear through the heart. Wolf Down screamed as his face twisted and distorted. His eyes bulged and turned red as his jaw unlatched and dropped, his mouth growing and ripping, opening like a Venus fly trap.

He crumpled to the floor as a sickening screeching sound escaped his lips, accompanied by a cloud of billowing black smoke. His face turned human again.

Bodil approached him. His eyes looked sad now; all the red had drained from them. He opened his mouth and spoke.

“Pishacha. Run child!”

His warning was far too late. The black smoke poured over Bodil, into her mouth, ears and nostrils. The evil, demonic spirit of the Pishacha had a new host now. It had Bodil. The Pishacha needed human flesh and organs to survive, and Bodil needed to finish what she had started. She needed to kill Carver.

It was time to eat.

Specter of Malice

| November 7, 2012 | 2 Comments

.There is an old saying passed between hushed lips that only the blackest souls of the deceased never cross over, because the very sins they committed while they still draw breathe in the mortal world, bind them  as an obstruction to the salvation they crave.

Wraiths of these lost souls – sinners of the greatest evil in their life, reside in the darkest of crypts, where they prey on the souls of the recent dead, and sometimes even those of a wandering traveller. As eons pass, these apparations grow more attuned to the realm of mortals, and their forms evolve in deadlier manners to fit their vile and wicked obsessions.

The Specter of Malice, is one such phenomenon. A grostesque manifestation of the wicked atrocities these beings commited in their life and afterlife, its sole purpose is to wrought eternal terror and despair onto any being- living or dead.

“Let us feast on your  flesh, your sins and your soul, And be reborn as part of us”.

#4-Restless Red

FIFTH CONCEPT and i must say, im starting to get the hang of digital painting. 25 more of such opportunities to improve and explore the digital medium. EXCITED   Animated by forbidden necromacy, the Restless Red are driven solely by their spiteful hatred for the living. Harnessed with the intent of being a biological weapon in ancient egypt, they spawn from the very crimson mist that fall as red rain onto any location that would be unfortunate enough to be it’s target of attack. The use of such sadistic magic would usually cause widespread onslaught as the ravenous undead slaughter, and devour all living – friend or foe, in it’s path.
