#13 Bone Man
#13 Bone Man
Bone Man, Bone Man with his box of chains, rattling along the darkest alleys in the cold and empty nights. He shakes his wooden box, and the rattle clank and clink echo up and down the building walls. If you hear that sound, you can’t help but shiver. If you see the man, you can’t help but want to run.
It’s not that he’s all that scary. Short, with a mess of jackets vests and coats hanging stiffly down his sides. He’s got hair that sticks out like kindling held together by old bird nests. He’s brown, but not the decent kind of brown that comes from your bloodline or the sun. The kind of brown that’s soot and grime and grease and road dirt, soaked into the pores, into the molecules of his skin so that once you might have known where he was from but nowadays he only looks like miles of dirty road had run right over him.
If you weren’t the type to run, if you were the gambling type, the type who played games with loaded guns, you might ask him to stop. You might reach into your pocket, find something there to give him- a button, a wrinkled up receipt, a buck or two, a knuckle bone, half a smoked cigarette, he isn’t picky. After all, it’s your funeral.
If what you got is good enough for his mood, and he doesn’t just spit at your feet and call you something fit to make a trucker blush as he rattles on down the road, he may just stop and look you up and down.  Look real deep into your eyes. And after hacking up something that looks like a dead baby bird, he might just drop his wooden box and sit on it. He might just tell you a little story.
You might think yourself lucky, puff your chest a little, pay extra attention, shaking the cold, the night, the fading cheap beer buzz out of your ears. You might really think you want to hear what he has to say. But you never do. Because the bone man only ever has one thing to tell you. And before you hear it, you might think that being forewarned is some sort of a good thing, but once he says his piece, you got nothing but empty to contend with.
Because what he tells you is the precise, exact, absolutely unvarnished moment of your death. Down to the day and the color underwear you’ll have on. You might have thought this would be cool, to loose all that uncertainty, but once you know it’s not something you can un-know. And you always knew you were going to die, right? But now that you know, down to the second, just how little time you have left, well, then, the clock starts ticking down, right?
And your life might go on its way, you might be bored out of your skull or fucking your brains out, but there it is, tick tick tick, grinding down every pointless minute into that one pointless moment, that brick wall, that game over. And see, the problem is, with that much knowing, well, it just ain’t a gamble anymore, is it? And isn’t that what you were? A gambling man?
See, now all you’ll ever be is dying.
No, no, you’re better off just letting the old shadow fucker walk on past. You’re better off pretending he was never really even there. You’re better off not even stopping to wonder what the hell it is he’s got that box of chains for. Just get on getting on, spit at his feet for good measure, rattle the change in your pocket, and count yourself the luckiest fool that ever lived.

#11 The Bottomless Pit

She currently lives in Hawaii and gives money to the Jimmy Fund and the MSPCA.
Day #17 Nadine Lombardi
Nadine Lombardi
- Japanese/Italian
- Chief executive officer of corporate travel company
- She has family on both Earth and Titan
- She worked her way up to a higher social class, but decided to stay on earth to care for her family
- Has a divided family: Titan (Italian) family is pompous, egocentric, and looks down on anyone that lives on Earth; Earth family (Japanese) is lower middle class that struggles to survive; they value close friends and family
- Though Nadine is an executive, she still takes on extra work to take care of her Earth family; she therefore has to travel back and forth to Titan; technology allows for her to tend to the corporate travel company
- Nadine is Thomas’ love-interest, though she unknowingly intimidates him
#12 Mean Lady
She comes to the store all the time, almost every day, and in her opinion, that should give her a special status around all these other not-so-regular shoppers. It certainly should get her top-notch service, regardless of the fact that she returns half the things she buys. Sometimes she even uses the stuff she buys before she returns it. She knows it, and the cashier behind the returns desk knows it, but she also knows the little bitch wouldn’t dare accuse her of lying. They’ve been through this before, and she’s perfectly willing to occupy every single manager’s time until she gets what she wants. That is, after all, how to get exactly what you want.
Never mind wether it’s fair or not. Nothing is fair, and besides, if any of the people working there had an ounce of dignity they’d find a different job. No, these people were all losers, and she never minded getting one over on a loser. It taught them a lesson. Made sure they didn’t forget that they were the losers, and not her.
Some days she wouldn’t even buy anything. She’d pick things up, put them in her cart, walk a few aisles over and set it down in entirely the wrong spot. Makeup with the bleach. underwear on the shelf with the twinkies, a six-pack of socks tucked behind the magazines right next to the cashier, almost daring her to say a thing. But they never did. They knew their place. She made sure of that.
On days when someone wasn’t quite as cheerful and humble as they were supposed to be she’d be a little naughty, and do things like leave a quart of ice-cream on top of the DVDs, biting her cheek at the thought of that guy who was too busy to help her, finding it hours later, when he was finally done with that massive cart full of boxes he was trying to empty. Since he didn’t want to do his job by dropping everything for her, well, she’d make sure he had plenty of work to do. Life was like that, after all. Not fair at all.
She never went out of her way to be nice to any of these losers, either. After all, if they couldn’t find a better job than that, they must be mentally deficient and should be watched. Carefully. And sometimes, well, no, often, they needed to be directed. Forcefully. It wasn’t that she was unkind, it was that she didn’t have to be, not to these little ants scurrying around her. She could be as mean as she liked, and they still had to kiss her ass. She loved that.

2011 Day 18 a Servo from Upper City in my novel “Mentor”
Servo a small utility hover craft that responds to the voice commands of the person who has activated it. Servos can be made of components and schematics normally available at any replicator outlet if there is also sufficient bio synth available. Components can be swapped out for other components. Servo components can also be modified through modification of the schematics, creating a new schematic. Only tech class citizens have the proper identification protocols to use a Servo, as without the necessary instruction they could be dangerous.
Servo components include laser modules that can be fine tuned by degree to range between high out put for boring holes in metal, to low out put for use as a pointing device, or a safety beacon. In the case of the safety beacon the component can be detatched from the main body of the Servo an placed where needed. It is not advised to do this however until the piece has been keyed down to low level, wide beam laser.
Another potentially dangerous component in a Servo is the sonic burst. If set too high it has the capability to rupture delicate biological parts as well as sensitive electronic equipment. Although it is rarely considered useful a microwave attachment can also be replicated for this device.
Servos can be created with varying classes of artificial Intelligence, Class A being the highest and most autonomous. Class E will follow instructions to the letter and will never make executive decisions in the circumstance where it’s owner has lost the capacity to do so, though this never occurs under the watchful eye of the MAICS.
Servos utilize standard rechargeable power packs, but have the access to othe components to pwer them. These are 1) a small extendable land line with AG 291b power connector, and 2) any number of solar collection devices (see Document LZ429006: Servo Schematics and Components).
Servos can range in size from six inches (used for comm and memory tasks) to thirty-six inches in diameter(for heavy manual labour, such as remodelling walls and hauling components and other equipment. The largest Servos require that the operator be a Tech Class C or higher. Apprentices do not have the appropriate protocols and may not engage the use of the larger (class E or D) servos, for their own safety and the safety of others.
Often, a high level Apprentice Tech will be given a specialised servo upon reaching a high standard of excellence in the profession. This is usually at the descretion of the Master Tech, and is a source of healthy competition among apprentices. The servo as a prize for excellence is a valuable incentive to maintain highest standards of workmanship and safety.
See the list of Servo Schematics and Components available to the various Tech classes in Document LZ429006: Servo Schematics and Components.
2011 Day 17 Bracha of Lower City from my Novel “Mentor”
Mentor: A science fantasy adventure, by J S Rowe
Bracha, cook and herbalist for the tribe had been cooking slither since before Tarou’s father was born.
In a small tribe like that of the people of Under City, it helps for everyone to know the rudiments of most of the tasks, and to be able to excel at more than one. Bracha was the head cook and herbalist, but he was also a great hunter, or was so in his prime. He took great pride in his hunting accomplishments, and told and retold storied of his own prowess with great relish, but his greatest pride was in his cooking. He himself had learned at the chopping slab of R’eshka of the one thumb, who had passed to the gods finally only a few years ago. He missed her. She had been a daunting tutor, but because of that he had never yet, as he liked to joke, poisoned anyone and had even made things like Slither meat palatable. And the breads he conjured from the flour of local seeds couldn’t be improved upon.
He always had a gaggle of children helping him out and learning the ways of herbs and their uses in cooking and healing, though a number of them were often just in the way and under foot. But he was used to it, and welcomed all comers. Just make sure those inconsiderate hunters are careful where they drop the carcasses. That was all he asked. This was always said with a smile too. For as much as he loved to teach and to cook he loved to tell funny stories and share a good belly laugh.
#11 Wolf
It was the name that stuck. Even after all these years, still seemed to be the name that stuck. Even after the wolf in question had been dead and buried for hundreds of years, never mind the fact that the galumphing beast had been more of a huge black dog far too fond of licking your face. Sure, he’d brought down a bunny or two in his day, but he was hardly a wolf.
The name had been given to the dog, more of a joke than anything, but within days it slid right over on to him. Which stood to reason, given that pet and master were almost always at each other’s side. So, the dog remained dog and he became Wolf. Had he known it was a christening, he might have fought it off with a bit more force. But perhaps it was a blessing of sorts, in that it both separated him from the bloodline he came from but still kept him connected to his past, before the inception of the creature he was to be.
He wondered idly sometimes if perhaps his creator had played a hand in his naming, had left him this anchor as a parting gift. He never knew who had made him into a vampire. Among the current creatures of his ilk, much was made of the master-spawn relationship, but back then you were surrounded by people who both believed in your existence and had far fewer reservations about throwing a person or two on a pyre for no damn good reason. Indeed, in those first days he didn’t know what he was or what he was to do about it, but he learned right quick. The body knows, the body teaches. The blood speaks, and contrary to so many ridiculous movies and tv shows, the hunger gives the soul enough time to learn how to hide before it rips all thought from the mind.
He had little more than glimpses, brief memories of his master from the hours, or perhaps days of his transformation. And he could not remember his face as little more than a shadow. But he remembered a voice that called him Wolf and told him he could live forever if he could manage to stay out of the sun. The casual way that young man’s voice said it somehow made a deeper impression than any dire waring would have. So, he stayed out of the sun and survived.
Hundreds of years later, he would not admit that he was still searching for that voice. He liked to believe himself a more pragmatic creature than that. The nature of his creation had demanded a realistic point of view, something which he felt younger vampires, so coddled and cared for in their early years, might benefit from. It made them weak and prone to beliefs and flights of fancy which were little more than impediments to achieving the full and terrible glory of their true nature.
But perhaps, he mused, he was just a creaky old man with a downright childish name. He didn’t know. If there was one thing he had learnt in all his years was that none were more foolish than those who thought they had the answers. If there was one thing that his unnaturally long and violent life had taught him, it was that there were no answers.
#16 Darlene Wild
Ms. Wild has the worst luck when traveling. Always looking for a short cut, she often becomes lost. While astray in the Snowy Mountains, she found a mountain Yeti. Fortunately for Darlene, she has an affinity with all animals.
Rabb
Rabb is the kind of guy you meet out in the middle of a desert. Enigmatic and full of trouble, yet one of the nicest guys you’ll meet. Though if your trying to avoid confrontations with the New Empyrean Order, it’s best not to befriend the guy who used to be their top engineer. Also it’s best not to befriend the guy who used the New Empyrean Order’s prized prototype super mech to defect. Hanzle and Finch got WAY more than they bargained for when Rabb started to tag along. And how is it that he knows so much about the Gradian colony from it’s golden days?
#16: Deidra Edelweiss
A master of the elements, Deidra Edelweiss.
Deidra was only a baby when her parents, Diplomats for the Loman Organization, were killed during a Vampire Clan conference. She was taken in by family friends, as per her parents wishes, and raised only knowing them as her family. When her powers began to manifest, she fought to keep them hidden out of fear of her family finding out. It wasn’t until she unintentionally caused a school wide blackout, that her parents figured out it was her and introduced her to Arthur Loman. Arthur introduced Deidra to other witches in teaching her how to better understand and harness her burgeoning abilities. Though she found the classes fun, Deidra still felt lonely, until she met Walter Ramsey. Walter made Deidra feel like she has a home away from home as she treated him like the daughter he never got to spend time with, and Deidra had the surrogate father/brother that she lacked while staying at the Loman Institute.
As an agent of Loman , Deidra is the second-in-command alongside Adam Mortensen for Team Zeus. She is well respected and a level-headed foil to Adam’s headstrong tendencies, and one of the team’s heavy hitters with her powerful, yet unpredictable elemental spellcasting. She is one of the more well-adjusted members of the Loman Organization as she balances time with the Organization and with her foster family and friends. Though strong, Deidra still carries a burden of not truly knowing her birth parents, and though she can access their files, Deidra is relunctant to find out the truth about her parents, and she is content with that fact.
Abilities: Deidra is a powerful witch whose magic proficiency is Elemental Magic. Deidra is capable of calling forth the elements in aiding her offensively and defensively, yet certain spells will yield unintentional results depending on the range Deidra casts it. For example, a close range fire wall is easy for Deidra to cast, yet firing off a large column of fire from afar will cause the fire to spin wildly and not land directly at her intended target. This is mainly due to Deidra having to channel the natural forces of nature, which are difficult to control in general.
Deidra has shown varying skills in the following elements;
Fire: Her most utilized ability. Deidra is able to cast fire spells of varying levels, from fireballs to flame tornados.
Lightning.: Her second most common ability; Deidra is able to cast bolts of lighting from her fingers to calling down a bolt of lighting to the ground.
Wind: Though skilled, Deidra uses this ability more for defense, or in combination with other elements.
Water: Deidra only uses water spells when she is in proximity to a water source, yet when she does, can create various water constructs and tidal waves.
Earth: Deidra’s least used ability due to the mental exertion it causes, Deidra is capable of launching a column of stone to delivering a powerful earthquake.
Though an Element Specialist, Deidra is capable of using other spells in her field work;
-Tracking Spells
-Defensive Wards
-Potion making
– Curses
– Scrying
Deidra is trained in Basic Combat training and adept in small arms weaponry. She possesses skills in Linguistics, Forensic Research, and in Piloting.
Creation: Deidra is one of the first two magic style characters I conceptualized in my mind for the Loman Organization. Initially, I was going to utilize a traumatic experience in her power manifestation, yet it was through Carlos’s suggestion, that we made her more of a well-adjusted and self-assured character by using the Jean Grey approach to her backstory; girl’s powers manifest, causes some disruption, family seeks aid for their child to a specialist. Her outfit was influenced from a cover of Runaways from Nico Minorou’s dress. Her dress intially had torso pockets, and I extended the design to go over her shoulders. I included back packages for her to carry items/weapons and mini-pouches on her armbands, which carry implements for her spellcasting. I also added additional detail to her boots, as those were a problem for me in finalizing their final design.
Day15- Jimmy “Buckwheat” Franconie
Buckwheat Franconie was a Mob boss in the early 30’s that controlled a large portion of the upper east side. In the five family feud of ’37 Buckwheat was taken hostage by the Cascaronie family. Before the families could come to an agreement, he was murdered in a way intended to prolong agony and death. It later became know as “The Buckwheat.” The Cascaronie family and this technique inspired Christopher Walken’s character in “Things to do in Denver When You’re Dead.”

- People have a bad feeling about him, though they may not be able to give a rational explanation
- Victor talks down to Willie, ordering him to “Fix thisâ€, or “Clean up thatâ€
- Victory resents Willie for earning his way to live on Titan and would do anything to tarnish Willie’s reputation (Thomas may kill Victor since he befriends Willie)
#30Characters Chatter…
