2012 New Challenger: Erwin A.

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Sup. I’ve been lurking on the challenge for a couple years now, figured why not give it a shot this time around.

My name’s Erwin. I’m 24 years young, from California. I’ll be doodling out characters for a few D&D campaigns I’m playing in, a bunch of which are logged over at http://www.obsidianportal.com. I’ll probably link up the individual things in their posts when I get to it.

I enjoy photography, particularly messing around with dslr’s. And Law & Order: SVU. That’s about it.

Presentation and Day 1 Character – Cortex “Lucky” Mite

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi there! My name is Aluísio! I’m a returning participant from the 2010 edition, for which I wasn’t able to complete haha! So let’s try my luck again! I’m best know for my work as the artist for Image Comics’ Grim Leaper series. I hope you enjoy some of my own creations!

To start with:

Lucky is a special acari species. Very inteligent, it feeds of brains, and no, it’s not a zombie, but does have a symbiotic parasite  lifestyle. The more it feeds, the more smart it grows, and the bigger it gets. The species is literally immortal as long it can find a new host to be a parasite of.
The most famous Cortex Mite in the universe is known as Lucky – the right hand of a gallactic mob leader. Guess what? Some of these mites get so big it’s essentially a fully grown brain – Lucky has taken over an entire human body’s brain, and commands it as a hollow shell. Lucky has been living this way for 5 hundred years already. His plans include taking over his own boss, possibly changing bodies whenever he catches him asleep!

Day 1: 21st Century Sandshark Studios Presents: THE FIRST AMONG KNAVES

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

21st CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS PRESENTS

A DAN NOKES HAPPENING…

THE 30 CHARACTERS IN 30 DAYS

DAY 1

THE FIRST AMONG KNAVES

The First Among Knaves

Character Background:  Most of man’s legend, folklore and superstition can be traced back to a world that few in our plane of existence have ever seen.  Doorways, and portals have sporadically opened and allowed a precious few bards, adventurers and storytellers to pass through and glimpse at its gods, kings, and monsters.  This world is known as THE LOST LANDS.  The Lost Land consists of the Super Continent of Aal which is broken into six main lands.  One of these lands we have come to know as a place where a girl named Alice stepped into through a rabbit hole and had grand and strange adventures in.

The truth of this place is much more dark and sinister….

The Kingdom of Wunderland has been ruled for centuries by the House of Hearts.  Its current monarch is Jon the Third and his wife Rosalyn   But Jon is little more than a puppet head, and Rosalyn rules the kingdom with an oppressive Iron Fist.  While plague, famine and oppression of both human and non-human citizen’s runs rampant, the queen and a small inner circle live in the imperial palace in a state of opulence and unbridled debauchery.

Finally the cries of the people cannot be ignored.  From out of the Forgotten Woods, comes a man of mystery.  Those who fight alongside him call him Jim O’ The Wood…  He is known more commonly as THE FIRST AMONG KNAVES.  He fights for the disenfranchised, downtrodden, and impoverished masses of Wunderland.  He leads a small band of guerrilla fighters against the armies of The Queen of Hearts in a bloody revolution for the soul and future of the peoples of Wunderland!

Hi Everybody!

At the last moment I’ve decided that I will commit to the #30characters challenge!  I attempted this challenge last year only to not actually post any of the five designs that I created and subsequently fail.  This year I plan on at least submitting some characters!  🙂

I’m the artist and co-creatof of the webcomic Kid Robo (with my writing partner Marc Deschamps) and the Art Director of Gray Haven Comics.

It’s nice to meet you all and let’s have some fun creating characters!  🙂

2012 Challenger: dee Juusan

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hello everyone~
I am Diana Al-Abbadi from Jordan, mostly known as dee Juusan, the pen-name I write as. I am a full time self-published manga/comic artist and I work as a freelance character designer and illustrator on the side.

I have an ongoing slice-of-life series; Grey is… with +400 pages of story which is published in two books so far and I’ve just started writing in the 3rd one. I am also working on another series; Name in Stone on a weekly basis rather than daily as “Grey is…”. I have other one-shots that are released and in the making. You can find out more about my work and updates through my blog.

I am excited about this 30 character challenge. I first knew about it last year when it was already starting so I made it my goal to participate this year. I don’t have much of a plan for the characters I’m going to create, I only decided that I want to try and draw all characters outside my comfort zone or characters that I don’t normally write about with different looks and styles, even mediums I use. So, there might not stories and bios provided with all the characters since my main goal here to draw ones that I wouldn’t draw in normal circumstances, a super hero with gigantic muscles and inhuman proportions, for example.

I hope this will be fun for all~

Thanks for reading.

2012 Returning Challenger: Lorenzo Bonilla

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hey everyone,

My name is Lorenzo, and I am an aspiring sequential artist who specializes in Character Design. I participated in the 30 Character Challenge last year and was short by ten characters, that I completed at a later time, but this time I plan to fulfill my end of delivering a full 30 characters for this year. My designs and creations can be found on my deviant art profile /emeraldfury, or at my website at www.lorenzobonilla.com.

I’ll keep it simple, I will deliver a variety of interesting characters and if there is an interest, I may explore the ideas further. For now, lets see what looks like fun for you, our audience. So, in closing, thanks for reading and wish me luck.

2012 New Participant – Rodney Fyke

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi all!!  I am independent artist and writer hailing from the Queen city, Cincinnati, Ohio from the grand ole’ US of A.   I am the creator, writer, artist, inker and colorist, YEP I DO IT ALL, for my all age comic book adventure Peanut Puddin’ N’ Jelly, which I just completed the 4th Issue of last summer.  I also created and wrote Unchained, another self-published comic book being distributed through Hazzum Productions which is the publishing company I co-founded in 2010.  In my spare time I travel to comic book conventions all over the Midwest and create sketch cards for all to enjoy.

For the next 30 days I will be submitting character designs for my ongoing webcomic Hard and Soft Taco, which is about two Mexican wrestlers making their way through the amateur circuit in hopes of some day making it to the pros.  All the characters I will be creating will eventually appear in future strips, so stop by www.hardandsofttaco.com to check out all the wackiness that ensues weekly and stick around to see who shows up next.   I can also be found on Facebook under Rodney.Fyke and on Twitter @rodneyfyke or if you prefer on deviant at http://rodneyfyke.deviantart.com.

2012 New Participant: Shaun Richens.

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments
Shaun was born, a baby, like most. He grew up in a small village in the U.K and went on to read The Hobbit, play tabletop fantasy games and see the greatest movie of all time, Die Hard. Through these wondrous events he grew into the man he needed to be. The one who spends his Saturday nights at home drinking Pepsi, (other fizzy pop brands are available) whilst writing comics he one-day hopes someone will actually draw into a nice pretty comic book. Until then he will just keep on writing.
Shaun can be found on the Internet at his blog.
Or if you’d rather have his words 140 characters at a time over on Twitter under the very imaginative and clever handle of@ShaunRichens

2012 New Challenger: Kristen Keck

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi everyone!  I kept hearing about this and thinking it sounded pretty fun, so I finally resolved to try it this year.  I’m glad to see I’m not the only crazy person trying to do this as well as NaNoWriMo.  Should be a good time.

I usually draw animal characters, so I’ll likely make mostly human characters for a little variety.

2012 Returning Challenger: Natalia M (Ozzie Scribbler)

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments

First off, I participated last year and never finished the challenge. Having a major art block and struggling to keep my pace I eventually didn’t publish past my first two characters, although having a few more, even if mostly rushed designs.

My name is Natalia MaÅ‚achowska, I’m 22 and a recent art school graduate from Szczecin, Poland. On the Internet I’m consistent with nick Ozzie Scribbler, so if you stumbled upon such username, it was most certainly me.
I’m a huge cartoon and comic geek, though pretty lazy when it comes to my own art. That’s why I’m hoping to use this month as an opportunity for some self-growth.

For all interested, I post some of my art on deviantArt and share my thoughts on various matters on Tumblr. Feel free to check them out.

Good luck for all the challengers this year!

Sincerely yours, Ozzie

Greetings again!

This is my second year participating in the challenge.

No worries, I’ve warmed up my daily character creating muscles this past month by drawing lots and lots of monsters. Oh, and I have the crazy idea of attempting NaNoWriMo too.

Oh boy…

Weeeeee!

2012 Returning Challenger: Ruben Kaae

| October 31, 2012 | 0 Comments

I have an animation background, but now I’m moving more into illustration, I’ve bin painting digitally for about a 1 year now, and I love it. I’m also teaching 2d drawing online.
I’m really looking forward to participating and creating some new characters + meeting like-minded artists in a new community.
You can find me here.

Hello Character Challenge! This is my first year doing this challenge and I am super psyched to be involved with it.  My name is Rin, I’m a roleplaying addict and a big fan of anthropomorphic animals and monsters. Expect a lot of those. Attempting to get a bunch of friends involved, I wish everyone luck and can’t wait to get started.

2012 Challenger: Gerta Oparaku

2012 Returning Challenger: Jesse Kiefer

| October 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

Jesse Kiefer here at your disposal. Returning for a second year of 30characters! Last year I cut my teeth on this project with the idea in mind that I’d create characters for my webcomic projects (specifically Tank-Monkey), and while I did use a handful of the characters from last year most of them wound up being just for fun (30 is more than I thought, ha!). This year I’ve tinkered with some vlogging on YouTube where I’ve been coming up with some fun characters for a series of short webisodes that I’ve been collaborating on with a friend. Most of my time on these episodes has been spent as a green screened Hologram.

This year I’m not going to box myself into making characters for a specific project, but I do hope to come up with some characters for my vlog channel meaning some of my character studies might look like me in costume but I’ll try to vary the looks as much as I can (or as much as I can for a big hairy red-head).

2012 Challenger: Jess Kirby

| October 30, 2012 | 2 Comments

This will be my third year and I’m looking forward to it. This year I’m going to do a duel challenge. Since I don’t do much digital art I’m going to do the Manga Studio 30 day free trial and make my characters using that. I expect them to look quite horrible in the beginning and hopefully I’ll improve by the end.

Not a self portrait, but close enough.

2012 Challenger: Marinks

| October 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

Well hello there everyone haha! It’s so nice to finally do this…

So I’m Marinna and a senior in high school. I don’t usually find myself making new characters on my own, but that’s why I’m doing this. I’ve seen all the amazing work that’s come from this challenge for a few years now and I (hopefully) will be able to finish it too.

I enjoy working on my tablet and good ol’ photoshop, but nothing beats pencil and paper 😀 Let’s have a great and productive month. Woo!

You can also call me either Marinna or Marinks.

Here’s my tumblrrrrr/the drawing tag at least -linkaroo-

2012 Challenger: Britney Winn

| October 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

Heya eveyone!

I am new here my name is Britney Winn but, my pen name is Buritsu. I am a recent college graduate from Wisconsin and currently aspire to become a webcomic artist . . . one day. I found this event last year but by the time I got to it, it was Christmas time so I’m here now! Yay! The stuff you will see from me will be characters I had in my head for (hopefully) future comic projects I wish to do before the Grim Reaper comes knocking at my door. Genre will range from fantasy, sci-fi and whatever else. I look forward to posting and seeing what fellow participants will come up with. Good Luck Everyone!

2012 Challenger: Trancedeliquist

Ehm…well, hello from Athens. Yup, that one from the small country called Greece. 😛

First time here, hoping to an artistic bloom. Or boom. Time will show. ^^

As long as the characters are considered…well. I’m going to resurrect my first comic called Indiana Lega. A mixture of Spider-Man & Indiana Jones, Lego-style. But let’s call it a more anatomically correct remake. 🙂

The Challenge has been posted in GreekComics forum too:

Hey everyone!!! Cant believe Nov is already here. Pumped to participate again in the 30 in 30 challenge. Props to Tyler James and Comix Tribe for putting this party together.

I might have to start a little late due to this freaking storm Sandy barreling down on us. I anticipate we will loose power soon. So If you don’t see posts from me right at the start that will be the reason why. 😀

Cant wait to see all the great characters that everyone posts this year. Good luck everyone!!

PS Been busy this past year with our book Z-Girl and the 4 Tigers. Here is the cover to issue #3 which we premiered at NYCC 2 weeks ago.

2012 Challenger: Marc McKenzie

| October 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi, I’m Marc McKenzie, based in New Jersey.  I’ve been drawing for years and for the past few years I’ve worked in animation, design, freelance commissions, and I’m looking into getting into comics and game design.  This is the third year I’ve participated in this challenge, and while I’ve never gone all 30 days before, who knows?  This year could be one.

My da gallery is here: http://redshoulder.deviantart.com/gallery/.  Good luck to everyone this year.

Illustration and graphic design as career goals is evident through the massive amount of work I have been producing in the last few years. The entire focus and purpose of my life since 2006 has been a progression of moving my career into the illustration fields, and specifically the sequential art illustration field.  Living in Portland I learned what sacrifices it takes to make a serious career out of illustration and design.  For three years I have been self-publishing multiple zine and comic titles, doing 24 Hour Comics whenever possible, and tabling at cons in cities all over the West.

My career history involves a over a decade in successful restaurant management, and so eventually it is my goal to be a project manager for a graphic design firm, or editor for a comic book company, with attention always to penciling jobs when available.

My professional graphic design and illustration portfolios are at    www.jjamesmcfarland.com    with updates fairly frequently.

All of my sites are viewable at    www.friendlybelligerent.com   and with updates fairly frequently.

In addition to 30 Characters in November, I will be consistently rolling out new material for my art blog at   www.friendlybelligerent.blogspot.com which means this will be a VERY busy month.

The name is Jaclyn and this will be my second year doing the 30 characters challenge. I recently started up at VFS for 3D animation and visual effects (yeah lasts years hopes for art school toatally came true. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get any character sculpts in this year seeing as I just started with the sofware but I will attempt my 2D characters just as I did last year. Hopefully I will find the time to get this year done. I found last year was a fantastic way to improve my art and come up with ideas on the spot.

My dA is here where more works in progress and sketches can be found on my tumblr here although it is not as full of art as I orginally intened it to be.

2012 Challenger: Ross Demma

| October 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

I’m Ross Demma, I’m an artist in Tucson, AZ and I’ve been drawing pretty much all of my life. I heard about the 30 Character Challenge last year, but was too late to sign up. A couple years ago, I tried a self-driven “Draw something once a week for a year”. Although, I did complete my task (I did end up with 52 drawings), I noticed it lacked structure. I look forward to creating and sharing with all of you!

2012 Challenger: Chrystle Rose

| October 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Say cheese ChesterWhat to say about me.  I’m thrilled I am able to participate in this years challenge!!!  I stumbled upon banners for it in early January, I believe, and I just adored the idea. I decided I needed to register and commit to it, right then and there.

I love drawing, and I’m constantly doodling on everything.  My favorite things to draw are costume designs, because I sew what I draw!

I’m hoping to use this challenge to work on my drawing skills and diversifying my body and face shapes.  Also, I need to work on drawing more males than females. Rather bad habit lol.

2012 Challenge: M_Dissolvo

| October 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hi everyone,

I tried this challenge last year and did NOT complete it, however I am determined to make it work this year.  This is an important goal to me so I’m excited to get going, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else is going to be creating.  I don’t really have much to add for now, but in a few days it’ll be time to start uploading and I’ll let my work speak for itself.

2012 Challenger: captkevman

| October 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

I’m Kevin Copeland, known online mostly as captkevman, but also occasionally as The Wayward Cartoonist. I did the challenge in 2010 and 2011, although I only completed 5 entries and 1 entry (respectively). I promised myself I’d try again this year and try to complete all 30.

My online handle (captkevman) is a combination of my name and my favorite childhood cartoon character. I picked it as an AOL handle back in the 90s, and it just sorta stuck. My other alias (The Wayward Cartoonist) is a bit more appropriate: I used to cartoon a bit back in high school and early college, but I haven’t done anything to speak of for the past couple of decades. I’ve spent the last few years trying to reconnect with my creative side. During my journey, I have started (and serve as organizer for) a local cartoonists/comickers group, I’ve been to a few conventions (SPX 2009 & Intervention 2011, plus some other local cons) that have been very inspiring, and I’ve had a few false starts on a webcomic project (which, despite several personal setbacks, I’m not ready to give up on yet). This year, I also organized the first annual DRAWtoberfest (drawtoberfest.org), which was designed to be a celebration of drawing for people of all ages and abilities.

As for my “real job”, I’m an independent technician and consultant focusing on products with a certain fruit logo on them. While I haven’t been creating as much as I’d like, I do take comfort in the fact that several members of our local group have gone on to do some pretty cool things: a self-published comic book, a self-published drawing book, and admission to RISD are a few of the achievements by our members. While I’m not personally producing much at the moment, it’s nice to be a part of a community that encourages and inspires creators.

This year, I did start drawing more frequently, even if it was just because of the game Draw Something on the iPad/iPhone. (Hey, I’m still marking that in the “win” column.) 😉

As for what to expect from me: keep your expectations low, and you won’t be disappointed. Last year, I actually did about 8 characters, but I only got a chance to post one of them. I’m hoping to do better this year. Look for a variety of character types, styles, and genres. I’m not filtering anything this year (except for decency).

I look forward to seeing everyone’s amazing characters this year!

2012 Challenger: Jared Lewis

Me. Sorry.I should probably get my info up before the East Coast loses power, what with this giant, unprecedented storm & all.

Hi.

I’m Jared.

I’m 29, I live on the East Coast, & this is my third year doing this challenge. I went all 30 for both 2010 & 2011. And yeah, I’m looking to do that again this time. It might be more of a challenge this time around as my dayjob situation has changed, giving me longer hours & a longer commute to create motion graphics for a local cable station. But I’m still looking to give it a shot. Below are a couple of my favorites thus far & a link to my infrequently updated sketchblog. I also have a tumblr without all the BS too if that works better for you. Good luck to all the other participants!
