2012 Challenger: Don Urquhart
I had a successful run in last years challenge. It was so much fun that I had to come back for another round. Good luck to all the participants.
#30 The Triplets
Crazy runs in the family.
Note from the artist:
If you check out my introduction post, you’ll see that I haven’t been drawing in a while. I’m at the end of this challenge, and I don’t have a lot of time, so I thought it might be neat to look in an old sketch book. This is from 1996.
#28 Tree Face
The Tree Face is a slumber parasite. He digs his roots deeply into your dreams to feed.
#27 The Azure Ninja
“Training, training, training! Blarg! I’m sick of training. When do I get to kill someone?”
A N
#25 The Snit
“Paint me like one of your French women, Darling.â€
He is a grotesque living tumor of sexiness.
#23 The Bounty Hunter
“I already know what you want. You want to make a deal. They always want to make a deal. No deal. NO DEAL!â€
#22 Triple A
The vampire remote had sucked all of Stan’s current dry, and Triple A was going to be next. If only he could roll under the sofa, Triple A might be safe until spring cleaning.
#21 Garung
Garung’s right arm is adorned with mystical tattoos that give him strength. He spends his time challenging the most powerful creatures of the old world.
#20 Rook
“All those other villains wear black, but I prefer a red costume. It makes it easier for the police choppers to follow me. Every time they put that spot light on me, the adrenaline kicks in and I get that rush.”
#19 Julio Mendez
Julio’s fluff piece about a twenty-nine year old black lab was cut short when a sea creature attacked the Brooklyn Bridge. After the cameraman fled in terror, Julio picked up the television camera and recorded the story that began his career. He is still widely regarded as one of the best reporters of his time.
#17 The Molten Man
“Let’s not do this the hard way. It won’t go well for you.â€
Once Molten changes from his human form, it’s too late to negotiate.
#16 Darlene Wild
Ms. Wild has the worst luck when traveling. Always looking for a short cut, she often becomes lost. While astray in the Snowy Mountains, she found a mountain Yeti. Fortunately for Darlene, she has an affinity with all animals.
#15 Colonel D. B. Huxley
Colonel Huxley is in command of the 2nd MEF (Marine Expeditionary Force) brigade. His command and control suit allows him to maneuver his four thousand marines. The projector drone that floats over his head creates holo-interfaces, communicates with orbital ships, and allows for precision artillery strikes. In essence, the Colonel wears a mobile HQ.
#14 Derek Brody
“Taking a shot at a shambler has all sorts of consequences. They never travel alone, and unless you have a silencer, taking a pot shot will bring a whole lotta pain down on ya. If you do shoot, run like hell afterwards. The hungry ones will follow the sound, and you don’t wanna be there when they show up looking for a buffet.â€

#11 Dr. Adrian Gibbs
While studying faster than light travel, Dr. Gibbs accidentally discovered time travel. He was launched back to the Cretaceous period, where he had to learn how to fight for his survival.
He fashioned himself a spear of wood and bone, and found a long piece of onyx to use as a knife. With these tools he could kill any dinosaur. To kill a T-rex for instance, he would have to jump on the creatures head and stab out its’ eyes.
#10 Therese Tesla
Excerpt from an interview with Therese Tesla:
(Interviewer)
“So, Ms. Tesla, what would be some of the dangers one might encounter in the alleys of London?â€
(Therese)
“Serial killers, steam punkers, and werewolves are pretty standard. Thankfully, a silver bullet will kill all three.â€
(Interviewer)
“And is it your mission to hunt them?â€
(Therese)
“Oh, no! I wouldn’t want them all dead. I do this for fun. What the hell would I do if shit wasn’t popping out of alleys at me?â€
#9 The Void Walker
I remember the first time the world was alerted to the presence of a super-powered being. I don’t know why, but I was expecting him to be a good guy, a super hero. No one expected this thing to start tearing apart cities. It would be an understatement to say this thing was a villain.
#8 1023
Left to work in the wastes of the old world for too long, 1023 has many gaps, and glitches in his A.I. program. A simple reboot would be enough to fix most of his problems, but he’s afraid that if he shuts down, he’ll never wake up.
#6 Gazelle
“Strong, fast, indestructible . . . yeah, I’m all of those things. I know my name doesn’t really reflect these qualities, but I didn’t get to choose mine. I was seen sprinting through the streets a few times, and next thing you know, some newspaper editor thought I looked elegant. He’ll know my displeasure soon; I have his car.â€

#5 Nicia
It was his last day as a slave laborer. The re-building of the Pantheon was almost complete, and his debts finally paid. This place had been his home for the last 10 years, it was worth one last look.
#4 Maj. Gen. Arthur Remo’s White Whale
“The origins of the Shoggoth are still unknown. Those who survived witnessing the creature’s arrival would say that it came from the sky, but its approach was never detected in space. It just seemed to materialize as it descended over Buffalo.
What is known is that on December twenty-first of twenty twelve, the Shoggoth hovered over the city for three minutes and twenty-two seconds before releasing a steady energy beam into the earth. The creature then drifted northwest. It’s plasma discharge cut a trench from Buffalo, New York to Moose Lake, Manitoba.
USAF hammered the creature for more than seventy hours as the Shoggoth made its slow trek across North America. Finally a nuclear missile was launched at the creature. Sure it survived, but it was also driven away. It de-materialized during its’ ascent into space.
I know many pilots, myself included, hoped for its return. It’s been twenty years, but it still feels like unfinished business to me. I wanted to chase it into the stars. I wanted revenge for the seventy-three thousand people it killed.â€

#3 Therapeutic Torture Bot
“I remember when the TTB came online. I was there. The BotTech Corporation was having a labor dispute with its employees. One of the techs got a little hot, and decided it would be a good idea to put a chiropractor A.I. into an “Information Collection Drone†chassis. I swear, this thing just got right up and twisted the tech’s top right off his bottom. The stupid robot kept asking: “Does your back feel any better?â€. Who knew that after it escaped to the sewers the TTB would become some super evil robot mastermind?â€

#2 Dina Brooke gets an upgrade
The following is a conversation between Dina and her tech.
Dina – “Hey, Doc. Can we do something about my hair?â€
Doc – “What do you mean? Your weave is fine.â€
Dina – “This might be hard for you to understand, but do you know how hard it is to go out on a date when your hair keeps falling off?â€
Doc – “I could attach your scalp with some Velcro strips. Will that help?â€
