Current art student at Arts Institute of Pittsburgh I am very much the amateur artist who is constantly learning and growing. I took this challenge to prove to my self that I have the creativity to come up with different unique ideas every day for a month. I have always loved doing art, from small doodles to the full one drawings i do now. Not sure what else to say can't wait to get started and have some epic entries to provide. Full honest feedback is welcome, critiques, and pointers are also welcome. Thank you.

#5 Bucket-Boy

| November 5, 2012 | 0 Comments

Bucket-Boy! Has all the power of a … well … um … a bucket? Yeah this kid has issues, he seems to think that all it takes to fight crime is a nice wooden bucket for a helmet and a flowing red cape on his back attached to his coat. Some kids don’t get hugged enough when they are younger ….. well some kids … they may have been hugged too much. Let’s just hope this kiddo doesn’t go try stopping a bullet anytime soon, last time I check wood doesn’t stop bullets very well. Good luck Bucket-Boy, you’ll need it.

#4 Shy Freddie

This is Shy Freddie, he doesn’t have any super powers, he doesn’t really talk very much but he is a very nice guy … wait where did he go? Oh, there he is behind that tree. Wave to the nice people Freddie! See he is waving at you from behind the tree, told you he was a nice guy. That Freddie, always so timid and shy, guess that’s where he got the nickname from. Well you know what come to think of it that is a mighty small tree for a person of his size to be hiding behind, how is he doing that? Maybe he does have some kind of powers after all!?

#3 American Splendor

| November 3, 2012 | 0 Comments

This is American Splendor, he isn’t a hero, he isn’t a villain, he isn’t part of your system. American Splendor was a lab experiment during the 1950’s the high day of American ideals, the citizens believed in the country and so did he. The government could do no wrong in the eyes of the people and this is how much of the country viewed society at the time. He was given a secret growth hormone that made him the size of an average adult male, the thing was the genetically enhanced hormone the scientist created also had a side effect … human intelligence  American Splendor, considered a failure in the eyes of his scientist creators was put into cryogenic sleep until a time that science was to a point that they could reverse the effects.

Like many businesses in the country the lab fell on hard times during the financial crisis and was shut down, funding removed and power cut off. Forgotten and alone, American Splendor awoke from his sleep to find a country he did not recognize. The ideals of the 1950s were gone, everyone was cynical, corrupt, and only worried about the newest Jersey Shore episode to be concerned or aware of the downward spiral the country and the world has taken.

He doesn’t know how or if he will even succeed but his determination to get the people to wake up from their entertainment induced coma has lead him to a life of rebellion. He fights for the basic human rights, the constitutional rights, and moral rights of the people. In the shadows he works alone, on the edge of the law, protecting the people anyway he can.

#2 Lonesome-Jones

| November 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

This is Lonesome-Jones , he doesn’t say much and not much is known about this eerie traveler, his clothing suggests that he must be from a distant past almost “western” including the mask made from a burlap sack he wears on his face. Yet, the strange thing is his left arm is replaced with an almost futuristic canon that shoots out laser beams from his arm.

The mask he wears is sewn in such a fashion it almost looks like he wears a permanent smile, though he is no nice guy. He wonders into town robs the nearest bank, burns down the nearest library he can find (he can’t read, guess makes him a little bitter) and then disappears as quickly as he appeared.
Lonesome-Jones, a nickname given to him over the course of time by people who have seen him. Mainly due to the fact he always travels alone it seems and some people have said “if you must sew a smile into a mask to wear, you must be a lonesome fella.”

#1 Cactus-Man

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Cactus-Man was once a mild mannered soldier during the nuclear bomb testings of WWII, but one fateful day while testing the bomb they would drop over the Pacific, disaster happened! He stood far to close and far too long during the drop and when the bomb exploded, he was standing next to a tall cactus and the nuclear radiation melded his cells with the cactus, making him Cactus-Man!

With the power to shoot tiny annoying prickly needles into his enemies, his indestructible flower pot he uses as a shield and his thick skin that helps him withstand intolerable heats, he fights to save the world day in and day out!

No one is quite sure why he wears a mask considering everyone is pretty certain that he is the only talking cactus around, but Cactus-Man goes nowhere without it tied to his face.

2012 Challenger: Jack Ellenberg

This will be my first year participating in this event, but I have always wanted to do something to push my boundries to help me reach my next level. I am a current student in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and enjoying every minute of it, it is truly my first professional training as an artist. Everything I know up to this point has been self taught and I’m hoping along with school and this event it can help me find my style and develop my talent. I’m excited to bring it for this year’s challenge  I won’t go out in a whimper. Expect the odd and the unique.
