Post 30 Days Thumbnail Gallery for John Tompkins, aka captblitzdawg
It wasn’t easy with the holidays, full-time job and full-time family and all kinds of computer issues, but I finished the challenge on time yesterday or the second year in a row. I didn’t get all the pics colored like I would want and I may go back and re-edit those posts. It was fun and I look forward to next year! Thanks.
Day 30 Snowstorm!
Snowstorm is an incarnate form of the hostile nature of winter itself. Living in the northlands, Snowstorm can blow a raging blanket of ice and snow across an area powered by an unrelenting wind that on its own can chill the strongest of constitutions. The beast prefers to remain isolated and quiet.

Day 28 Tractor Daniels
Mac “Tractor” Daniels is the strongest man in the county. Â And one of the nicest. If your truck is broke down, call Tractor to pull it for you. If you have a stump that needs to be pulled out of the ground, call Tractor. So far, tractor hasn’t found a job his muscles couldn’t handle, and it is great not having a desk job!
Day 27 ThunderFist
ThunderFist is a newcomer on the superhero scene. Word has it, he developed his “thunderfist” move from a combination of electrical experiments conducted by Tesla himself, and an internal bio-charged battery he put into himself. ThunderFist has tried to join or ally himself to several groups, but his newness has everyone keeping him at a distance for now.
Day 26 Scramjet
Scramjet spent years involved in aeronautics research looking to build the smallest, fastest true-flight experience. The result was the Scramjet suit which utilized a combination of things like hang-glider tech and solar panels to lift the suit to the necessary altitude, and a compression jet using frozen fuel. (Updated 12/2 with a colored image!)
Day 25 Cotton Mularkey, Legal Warrior
Cotton Mularkey originally stood on the side of Justice as Six-Fingered Man. But having six fingers on one hand proved to be a pretty lame super-power and Cotton chose to re-evaluate his  war on crime. Finishing legal school, Cotton decided he would make his mark by fighting super criminals in the courtroom. By taking Doctor Destruction or Monster Smash to civil court, Cotton learned he could keep these super villians tied up for weeks, maybe months, thus keeping them from turning resources and time to their diabolical schemes.
Day 24 Newsbot Crew
The newsbot crew is responsible for being able to get anywhere in the city to offer the fastest coverage of events as they unfold. In the crew is Sky-eye, the flying news cam, Spot, the rolling news cam, and Rover, the transforming newsbot who can wheel about or go bipedal to get the story.
Day 23 The Dealer
The Dealer is an other-worldly being traveling the starpaths and trading with everyone he encounters. The Dealer is a firm believer that a deal should be equitable to both sides, and he has built up a long list of loyal customers and traders. Because of that, woe to anyone who tries to rob or con the Dealer. He won’t get you, but his customers certainly will! (Updated 12/2 with an colored image!)
Day 22 Brass Brawler
Part of the illegal fight clubs scattered between London and Paris, Brass Brawler is the premier no-rules fighter in the arenas. Along with his incredible mass and strength, he also has his brass knuckles, and a brass helmet and a brass micro-mesh chain mail to help protect him.
Day 21 Redwood the giant
Redwood was a wandering giant. He used his ax to chop giants trees and to create passes through mountains. Threatened by a giant of such size and power a wizard (who had plans to rule his kingdom and the surrounding lands) froze Redwood where he stood. To this day, he still stands, hundreds of years later. His body and clothes are slowly turning into rock, grass, dirt and wood, and people have been living on or around him for about 200 years now. Most people think the giant will never become unfrozen and that he will continue to turn into a mountain. Others think the recent tremblings they have felt could tell another story…
Day 20 The Pride
The pride is a trio comprised of King Lion, Jungle Tiger and Ocelot. The three work in tandem around the globe confronting poachers and illegal traders. They have recently turned their attention to certain research laboratories that operate in animal and human experimentation that go beyond most horror movies. King Lion is an amazing runner and can communicate with the creatures of the jungles, rainforests and plains. Jungle Tiger is a massive and strong tracker who does his best work alone. Ocelot is small, but in a fight she can maneuver around in small spaces and close quarters, giving opponents fits as she wears them down.
Day 19- The Ol’ Nor’ Easter’
A cantankerous descendant of Poseidon, Nor settled in the north Atlantic and loves to whip the sea into a frenzy from time to time.
Day 18 Dog Gone!
No one knows how Charley the dog learned to turn invisible, but ever since he first did it, he has relished every moment of his visual anonymity. As Dog Gone, he has been able to pilfer all sorts of dog delicacies- steaks, sausages, hot dogs and the freshest restaurant trash! He has also become the living nightmare of EVERY cat within 15 blocks of his dog house, terrorizing them with invisible barks and unseen (but very much felt) paw swipes. Dog Gone’s fellow canines and friends appreciate his new talents as he has made their lives easier in getting treats and in chasing cats.
Day 17 Retread
Retread is a maintenance and repair bot. He fixes all kinds of stuff- pipes, potholes, squeaky door hinges, bracket shelving, vehicles and even other robots. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the time to get proper maintenance and repair on himself- hence the tape, the dings, and the mis-matched arms.
Day 16 The Bog god
The Bog god rules the swamps and marshes of the southern lands, choosing to reside in the deepest, darkest, mistiest forgotten about corners of his realm. This amphibious “deity” is unpredictable, being benevolent at times and cold-blooded at others. He is, at best, a friend to keep a long-distance relationship with.
Day 15 Tundra Scout
The Tundra Scouts of the northlands are the first-line protectors of their people. As scouts, it is there job to find, and identify threats to their land. But they are also skilled merchants and traders, and are a mix of soldier, spy, gate keeper, ambassador and businessman. Above all, Tundra Scouts are survivalists, living in some of the coldest and harshest conditions- from flat plains covered in semi-thawed earth of lichens and hearty grasses to glaciers, with gaping crevasses and hidden dangers. Their steeds are not only conditioned for the cold, but are intentionally protected from the harsh conditions with fur and quilt armor that keeps the horses warm and dry.
Day 14 Ms. Dark Song
Ms Dark Song has aspirations to be a headline singer in a big-time Vegas-style act. The devil, they say, is in the details, and Dark Song struck a deal with a dark and strange “other worldly” talent scout. In exchange for her soul, Dark now has what she needs to climb her ladder to success. Meanwhile, her enchanting songs put people into a dark trance, leaving the weakest of souls to never awaken from it.
Day 13 The Amazing Daedalus Flyer
Professor Sylvestus Daedalus spent considerable time studying the mechanics of flight as observed in birds. In his pursuit to fly, Daedalus attempted to recreate the motions of flight by manipulating  different wings and surfaces that provided resistance. As a result, he became conditioned as well as a superb athlete. Stumbling upon a series of sketches  of Da Vinci’s that had been forgotten to time, Daedalus was able to crack the code and created the variable wing mechanism- a series of slides and pins that allowed the wings to expand, gap, and contract back as part of the natural flight motion. Literally, the wings would change size and shape during the flight motions. Daedalus took his invention to London, and before a skeptical crowds of tens of people he flew above the highest rooftops and into the fog/smog of the city’s sky and was never seen again.
Day 12 Lord Contagion
Lord Clarion had an extreme interest in micro sciences- molecular science, microbiology, light particles, etc. As part of his research, Lord Clarion gathered dust from ancient tombs, meteors, hospitals and trash heaps to examine what was happening at the smallest of observable levels. Somewhere along the line, the dust from one of these odd locals contaminated and changed his body. Lord Clarion can spontaneously turn into Lord Contagion, a hideous creature covered in small sores that turn a luminescent blue before releasing spores that cause a variety of horrid and ghastly infections and ways to die. Lord Contagion is happy in his research, now getting to observe the random actions of the spores that come from his body and ill others.

Day 10- Unicorn Lad and Centaur Boy
Just a couple of mythical kids who don’t always get along, but are still the best of friends.
Day 9- Ace Stratos, Mercenary Pilot
Ace Stratos- mercenary pilot. He spent years as a test pilot for the top aeronautical research firms but he was secretly copying and reverse-engineering the experimental technologies until he had everything he needed to become the top fighter pilot on earth. Ace is worth every penny, charging clients half the construction cost of each plane he shoots down. His plane, the Death Shrike is equipped with stealth technology, including “image-distortion” which visually puts the plane several feet behind where it actually is. The guns on each wing are similar in caliber to the nose-gun of the A-10, and the six missiles are laser guided via heads-up display in the pilot’s helmet, similar to the ATF jet. Additionally, the Death Shrike can be piloted like a drone and Ace can utilize his jet pack.
Day 8- the Prospector
The Prospector is an expert in the subterranean world. Finding precious metals, gems, minerals, lost mines and tunnels and buried treasures are all in his line of specialty. With the help of master engineers and builders he has designed an array of mining tools, like a shoulder mounted drill that makes him a one-man tunneling crew. It is rumored that he is currently searching for King Solomon’s Mines.
Day 7- Mysterious Prophet
I did this in honor of Billy Graham’s 95th birthday. I decided to do a character retooled from the Bible and chose the prophet Elijah as the base. This mysterious prophet has some control of Fire and Water, he can communicate with animals and he can run incredibly fast. Despite all these abilities, he doesn’t spend much time fighting crime, but rather visiting the sick and invalid, feeding the needy and publicly exposing false preachers, mediums, and occultists.
Day 6- The Shield Bearer
From the Isle of Avalon, the mysterious Shield Bearer appears during times of battle to stand next to the king offering protection. Armed with two mystic shields, she can deflect hammers, broadswords, missiles, and even cannnon fire! But the shields are not just defensive. Swinging them at foes, these shields of mystic energy are thin- capable of chopping or slicing like any contemporary weapon would be expected to do. When the battle is over, the Shield Bearer disappears as quietly as she first appeared. Rumors have it she was last seen several times across Europe during WWII and is believed to have been captured in the background of a photo that shows her at the door of Winston Churchill’s house on Downing Street. Other reports have her helping a young woman across the Russian wilderness in 1918…
Star Crasher
Star Crasher is a hi-speed multi-system wanderer, capable of blowing his way through a star (or planet for that matter- which makes him a threat to anyone who knows what he can do!). He is making his way from system to system looking for any evidence of what happened to the Scarlett Legion- the unit he was assigned to when they were attacked. During the battle he was knocked unconscious and has no memory of who attacked and what happened.
Afterlife Hunter- Ahab Reeger
Ahab Reeger was born with a ghost eye, and his Old World family knew immediately he would be a tracker and fighter of evil creatures and manifestations of the afterlife. Armed with his hand-held Specter mortar and the Dragon’s Tooth blade, Ahab also carries a variety of spices, herbs, talismans, rings and medallions to confront just about any kind of otherworldly evil.
Shadow Flower
Shadow Flower- it’s a nice name at first- until you realize this flower kills! Shadow Flower is an assassin who moves through the darkest shadows. Between alleys, under houses and buildings, long hallways, behind doors and in closests-any dark and shadowy place is a place her to hide and strike from. But she can do more- Shadow Flower can project a solid shadow to do her hands-on dirty work for her. This projection is a monstrous form of her inner self and strikes without mercy- and without evidence!
Day 2- Narwal Privateer by John Tompkins
A cartographer from an ancient time and people of the north, voyaged with a tribute ship carrying payment to his people’s rulers when the ship was attacked. Looking to abandon ship, he grabs his bag of charts and maps when a cursed bone-carved medallion falls in his bag. The medallion is made of narwal horn, and on contact with the water, the cartographer is turned into a narwal creature who takes advantage of his new form to become a privateer, raiding the pirates who plundered his people and returning the treasures.
Returning Challenger- John Tompkins, and first post- Crater Johnson
Crater Johnson is a space explorer/ detective/ tough guy. There is amazing stuff to find in space, and people will do amazing things to get it. Enter Crater Johnson, the guy looking for his own opportunity or to make a little cash by helping someone with their opportunity. But under the suit and tough guy persona is a heart of gold. Crater’s look was inspired by the old Fiction House sci-fi comics.
