Teacher, Playwright, Performer & Superhero Enthusiast.

My first crayon drawings were of Superman and Captain America. I always wanted to draw comics but never followed that passion beyond some self-published zines and forays into early internet comics. I've worked in various aspects of graphic design and fooled around with a spray can at various stages of my life, keeping my pen busy and full of various inspirations for the doodles in the margins of my notebooks.

Inheriting an iPad changed my productivity with the ability to draw, edit, color and post onto the internet via one device in the limited time I have to mess around with my doodles and drawings. My 5-year-old son is my biggest fan and the main reason for my artistic renaissance. He's the reason I'm drawing more often and the person I draw the most for.

For the 30 CHARACTERS challenge this year, he is my co-conspirator and collaborator. His excitement and innocent love of superheroes and drawing has kept my inner cynic/critic at bay and we are having a blast this year making up a whole new universe of heroes, robots and monsters for the internet.

Beausephus + Son | 30 Characters in 30 Days 2012

| December 2, 2012 | 1 Comment

This is my second year in the 30 Characters in 30 Days Challenge and my second successful completion.  30 original characters created by my son’s effusive and fervent imagination and my trustworthy iPad Gen 01 and three nibs for my Bamboo stylus.  I feel I was able to tweak my normal style a bit for different characters and different designs. Some of the presentations above are more successful than others but the overall creative process more than make up for my own criticism of my own talents.

Day 30 | The Junior Partner

| November 30, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 30

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

THE JUNIOR PARTNER

This character was a surprise my co-conspirator.  Combining all of the characters and genres he likes this is a mystery-solving, trap-making, monster-fighting, time-travelling, crime fighter kid and his cyborg dog.

Day 29 | Storm Ranger

| November 29, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 29

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

STORM RANGER

One day while playing with his Nerf foam dart blasters, the Junior Partner started calling himself “Arhtur West, The Storm Ranger”.  A Storm Ranger is a space faring adventurer who travels across vast distances to solve crimes and bring down intergalactic crime lords.

It is interesting to note that Arthur West evolved as a character.  The “Storm Ranger” aspect is forgotten and now Mr. West is the owner of a Burrito Restaurant who has a super powered truck that allows him to instantaneously travel back and forth to his farm to harvest fresh vegetables and meat as well as take care of his multitude of dogs.

Day 28 | Meteor Mike

| November 28, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 28

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

METEOR MIKE

So, Meteor Mike was created in response to the Space Pirate character posted earlier.  The concept is essentially a Green lantern style space cop.  Instead of a ring, Meteor Mike has a tricked out bracelet/gauntlet that allows Meteor Mike to travel through space and “pick up comets and asteroids and throw them at bad guys or make them explode.”

I really tried hard to give the character some Kirby styling esp. with the underpants over the tights look.

Day 27 | Tigerboy

| November 27, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 27

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

TIGERBOY

Raised in the Jungle buy a tribe of natives and sentient tigers, Tigerboy is the recipient of a a amgic amulet and armor that gives him superhuman tiger-based powers.  The armor used to be a whole, intricate suit of armor made from mystic materials, but after centuries and misuse by a previous recipient, the armor is only in pieces. The only piece he is able to wear, as he is a boy, is a small section that fits on his arm (again, a one-armed armor motif that we both seem to appreciate).  Tigerboy is learning to use his powers and as he grows so to will his abilities and his ability to wear more armor.  Tigerboy fights evil in the jungles and offshoots tribes and monsters who are trying to destroy the talking tigers and the clan of magicians determined to protect them and the jungle itself.

Day 26 | Bone Burner

| November 26, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 26

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

BONE BURNER

So, shockingly, another villain from the Junior Partner, but not surprisingly, not a ton of detail in the bad guy’s back story.

The original idea was a zombie who was on fire.  I drew a skeletal, emaciated zombie and then it became just an animated skeleton engulfed in flames.  I added some gigantic, stylized gauntlets to give the idea of mysticism and age.

Yeah…that’s pretty much it.

Day 25 | Cletus King – Rock n’ Rolling Demon Fighter

| November 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 25

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

CLETUS KING

Cletus King is a rock star who is also one of the leading demon fighters of our universe.  He is forever locked in an eternal game of one-up-manship  wit a particular demon who wants to steal his music.  This demon is “super powerful but only the music can hurt him.”  Cletus King uses his affiliation with a government demon fighting agency to help his war on evil but also to help him out fo situations such as when he is locked out of his concert hall and needs to get his notebook where he keeps his lyrics and music.  Instead of saying amgic words, Cletus King sings his songs.  He also has the ability to make his tattoos become real.  he cannot make living things, but weapons, fire, water…that is right in his wheel house.  Some fo his tattoos are strategically placed for quick activation such as batarangs on his thumbs and Wolverine claws on his knuckles   He also has tattoos of shields, swords, nets, bows and arrows, etc.  he also has a guitar pick tattoo on his right forefinger so he can rock out whenever he needs to.

Day 24 | Spiderfly

| November 24, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 24

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

SPIDERFLY

Gentle Reader, you may have noticed a trend toward spider themed heroes in this 30 Day contest.  This particular spider hero was a combination of an armored version of Spider-Man and an old Batman villain named Black Spider discovered in an old DC Comics’ “Who’s Who” issue.

Spiderfly wears an armor that grants him agility and strength but also can allow for short periods of weightlessness.  Spiderfly has a series of “web bombs” that he wears in a utility belt, but can also shoot blasts of sticky fluid tendrils out of a special gun or from nozzles in his forearms.  He also could use the same fluid to create an underarm “cape” of this spider web fluid which allows him to glide along from building to building or over distances when used in conjunction with his weightless ability.

Day 23 | Monk Manchu, Private Eye

| November 23, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 23

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

MONK MANCHU, PRIVATE EYE

After staring at some of the Hellboy statues in the home office, the Junior Partner, mentioned that Hellboy looked like a big red monkey with a giant gun.  I threw together a sketch on a post-it of a chimp holding a giant Hellboy gun.  The  Junior Partner then asked who he was and his story and I turned it around on him.  I suggested the name “Monk” and then the story unfolded that the chimp was a cop who solved crimes and his gun shot grappling hooks and nets, etc…  I drew a fu-manchu style mustache  and gave the character sixties love beads and patterned kung-fu shirts for a hippie vibe.  Those were all vetoed and eventually the character became more of a orangutan with no ‘stache so the name, “Monk Manchu” doesn’t really fit anymore.  Nevertheless, here he is…a monkey private eye with a big gun and knows king-fu.

Day 22 | Space Pirate

| November 22, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 22

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

SPACE PIRATE

After looking at old, retro Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers images The Junior Partner became enamored with the whole 1950s fishbowl space helmet.  We were drawing pirates and then space aliens which melded together and then he wanted a really hardcore space faring pirate.  He wanted the old school fishbowl helmet, and I tweaked it… he was skeptical but then loved the overall “tech” look of the various components and the flaming laser sword instead of a “light saber” style energy weapon.

Day 21 | Mechaninferno

| November 21, 2012 | 1 Comment

2012 – DAY 21

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

MECHANINFERNO

The Junior Partner prefers Batman to Superman in almost all ways, but he loves the villain, Metallo.  He loves armor and robots of all kinds, but Metallo is very fascinating to him mainly, I think, due to the whole concept that the villain is powered by the hero’s ultimate weakness.  Plus, the whole skin coming off and revealing a robot underneath .. he’s going to freak out when he gets to see Terminator 2.

So Mechaninferno is a guy who controls fire via mechanical/cyborg/robot arms.  That’s pretty much all of the backstory that I could wrangle out of him.  The new Ninja Turtles cartoon was on.

Day 20 | Redbreast

| November 20, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 20

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

REDBREAST

Ok, so take The Falcon, add some Iron Man and Hawkman and boom…Redbreast…honestly, I’m not in love with the name, but I kind of like the color scheme.

Day 19 | Frankenfighter

| November 19, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 19

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

FRANKENFIGHTER

In his growing appreciation for Halloween and monsters, the Junior Partner discovered the various classic movie monsters.  He sort of gets the concept fo Frankenstein but it cemented for him when he saw an image of the FRANKENSTEIN AGENT OF SHADE comic in an ad in a comic I was reading.  He wanted his own version of a Frankenstein monster superhero, but he wanted it “more freaky.”  I suggested something more Dr. Moreau…gorialla arms or something, but that was ignored.  After a few ideas I suggested a gigantic arm with a huge knife.  That was it and boom…Frankenfighter.

Day 18 | Quick Storm

| November 18, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 18

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

QUICK STORM

Quick Storm is capable of moving at hyper sonic speeds rendering him almost invisible to the human eye.  His special suit absorbs the friction of his superhuman movements and converts it into electric energy used for offensive blasts or electric force fields.  He can also call down lightning bolts which supercharge his abilities for limited time beyond their already impressive normal levels.

Day 17 | Laser Spider

| November 17, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 17

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

LASER SPIDER

A victim of violent crime Laser Spider is in reality a man with significant injuries that prevent him from walking or living a normal life.  When wearing the Laser Spider suit, he gains superhuman dexterity and agility and enhanced strength.  There are two cybernetic arms that are capable of firing intense laser beams capable of precision attacks and microscopic accuracy even from great distances.  The suit also contains compartments for throwing spikes, knives, and a specialized grappling hook that can also function as a “claw-axe”.

Day 16 | All-American

| November 16, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 16

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

ALL-AMERICAN

A professional athlete who excelled at every sport, All-American became a soldier and went on to work with the Army to wear a special suit that absorbed physical and energy damage and then stored the energy to be used as various physical attacks.  All-American could achieve significant superhuman strength, speed, or endurance depending on how he chose to use the energy stored in the suit.  At its base levels  the suit allows All-American enhanced durability in extreme conditions as well as basic defense against physical and energy attacks.

Day 15 | Shooting Star

| November 15, 2012 | 3 Comments

2012 – DAY 15

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

SHOOTING STAR

Shooting Star is actually a villain.  A creature made from an exploding star, Shooting Star is like a cosmic Venom.  The energy possesses a human or alien or other creature and then the “firey star powers” take control.  Shooting Star has the ability to fly through space and convert whatever being it currently possess into various forms of cosmic and electromagnetic energy.  Shooting Star likes to create fireballs of “star energy” to hurl at his opponents.

Day 14 | Spider-Kid

| November 14, 2012 | 1 Comment

2012 – DAY 14

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

SPIDER-KID

Inspired by the modern incarnation of the Blue Beetle, Spider-Kid finds an ancient medallion that creates an organic, chitin like exoskeleton that grants him strength, agility, “all-around sight”, and the ability to shoot sticky liquid that can either be adhesive, or burn like acid.  Unlike similar spider themed heroes, Spider-Kid does not swing from a web-line (which was surprising to me).   The armor also give him claws which he uses to climb walls and rip open “bad guy armor.”  I liked the concept of “All around sight” which was described as sort of trance that allows Spider-Kid, when he focuses to get a general idea of the location of objects and people all around him… a combination of Spider-Sense and Radar-Sense.

When asked why the armor isn’t all over his body the reply was, “I dunno…it just looks cooler like this.”

Day 13 | Foursquare

| November 13, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 13

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

FOURSQUARE

After hearing about the playground game “four square” the Junior Partner got the idea that it should be played by guys with four arms and then as his imagination will often to, he started talking about the game of four square but with swords and four armed guys.  Soon the concept of the game disappeared and the idea of a four armed superhero with guns and knives stuck.  He dictated certain aspects (like the vest) but vetoed other idea…such as the use of squares anywhere in the motif.

So there’s not much really beyond the fact that this guy has four arms and bunch of weapons.

Day 12 | Witchbomb

| November 12, 2012 | 2 Comments

2012 – DAY 12

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

WITCHBOMB

Witchbomb started as a very basic idea, a witch-man who threw smoke bombs at people.  Based on the lean concept of a hood and goggles (so he could see in the smoke), I threw together a loose sketch which was then quickly vetoed…the smoke and magic blasts also came out of fingers and he had a hook hand.  I assumed that meant three arms… I was wrong, but The Junior Partner liked the idea.  My input was this, what if he was half robot, but not metal, but wood carved from magic trees.  His extra arms could be carved enchanted wood with various holes and nozzles to release compounds and smoke mixtures he mixed together and stored in his wooden limbs.  This was met with skepticism until i drew up the basic character idea, and then after a few tweaks…Witchbomb!

Witchbomb is more meddler and nuisance than hero or villain…kind of like The Creeper.  He’ll join up with a hero for a while or maybe a team but then could switch it up whenever he felt like it just to cause trouble and confusion…much like his magical smoke controlling abilities.

Day 11 | Jerry Jerkpuncher

| November 11, 2012 | 2 Comments

2012 – DAY 11

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

JERRY JERKPUNCHER

Jerry Jerkpuncher is a a normal everyday kid until he is teased and humiliated by bullies once to often.  After taking a particularly embarrassing beating, he wishes that there was some way he could stand up for himself.  he knows his parents would be upset if he fought back and he made a silent plea for someone to help him.  magically, enchanted metal gloves appear on his hands and begin whispering words of encouragement and support to him.  he grows confident and brave.  he ties a mask around his face to hide his true identity and patrols playgrounds and schools defending children from bullies, creeps, and jerks of all kinds.

Day 10 | Lasermouth

| November 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 10

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

LASERMOUTH

Lasermouth is a robot that was built to absorb the energy and offensive lasers, absorb them and shoot them back at his opponents.  Something went wrong and instead on being able to shoot the energy out of his hands, it explodes out of mouth in a devastating blast.  Lasermouth is also able to use this absorbed energy to fly at high speeds and create force fields…imagine burping up bubbles of energy to surround you defensively… like that.

Day 9 | Blue Lightning

| November 9, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 09

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

BLUE LIGHTNING

A “spaceman” who lives in the clouds absorbing electricity until he has to swoop down into the city to save people of fight villains.  When pressed to describe what “spaceman” means The Junior Partner could not decide whether that meant “astronaut” or “alien”…so he decided on alien astronaut trapped in the clouds fighting the bad guys who keep trying to capture him and take him back to his home planet and steal his lightning suit.

Blue Lightning has… lightning powers, but also “electric lasers” that he shoot out of his eyes to melt weapons.

Day 8 | Devil Kid

| November 8, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 08

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

DEVIL KID

The Junior Partner decided that Daredevil needed a sidekick, so that’s what we have here, but then the story spun into something more original.  Devil Kid trained under the familiar red-horned vigilante but went off on his own to become a “city ninja master.”  When asked to elaborate what that means, The Junior Partner described it as like training in Kung-Fu Panda but in NYC and more guns.”  Not pictured above is the bazooka style “launcher” that Devil Kid uses to shoot his grappling hook and other blunt projectiles.

Day 7 | Dragontooth

| November 7, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 07

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

DRAGONTOOTH

In mystical times, Dragontooth was a villain intent on capturing lands and castles.  He enslaved villages using people to mine gold and gems out of the mountains.  he used mystical weapons to intimidate and conquer his foes.  he discovered a magic trident with which he harnessed mystical flame energies   After using the powers for some time he realized that he had  in actuality, been slowly allowing mystic dragons to enter the world via use of the trident.  The dragons emerged and Dragontooth found himself fighting with the people he conquered against the dragons.  By using the trident’s full energies he banished the dragons from his time but as a result he, himself, became lost in time.  He emerges constantly in new eras and alternate realities in order to prevent the dragons from conquering those specific realms as well.  Sometimes he must act the villain, other times, the hero.

Day 6 | Logan Greenthorn

| November 6, 2012 | 1 Comment

2012 – DAY 06

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

LOGAN GREENTHORN

Dr. Greenthorn was an explorer looking for mystical plants to help people who were sick when he discovered magic seeds.  When his camp was attacked by jungle poachers the seeds fell from his pocket into the ground causing tendrils of vine and thorny plant to explode from the ground entwining all in the blast radius in cords of plant life.  Dr. Greenthorn learned he could control these plants and eventually used them to attack the leader of the poacher who also ahd enslaved a small village.  Dr. Greenthron tried to go aback to his original life’s work, but became disheartened when the Jungle Spirits told him that the plant he was looking for was only a myth but that he should use the magic seeds to help others.

While not a superhero in the generic term, Logan Greenthorn attacks villains who hurt children, animals or cause ecological disasters.  The magic seeds cause mystical plants to engulf his body and he can use them in any way he sees fit, as offensive or defensive appendages or for means of exaggerated locomotion.  The plants have no real rhyme or reason and are based on the indigenous varieties of pants in the local area.  He can amplify natural effects of plant life or cause them to morph into extreme versions of their natural state.  The plants produce more fo the magic seeds when Greenthorn dismisses his powers.

Day 5 | Fireburn

| November 5, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 05

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

FIREBURN

Fireburn is the son of a dragon who was supposed to help his father, an evil fire dragon, take over the world, but instead helps protect the earth from his father’s minions.  Fireburn is fireproof, of course, with a touch skin that makes him not only impervious to flame and heat but also other extreme temperatures and physical attacks.  His natural environment is a realm of fire, so his body temperature is so hot that he is constantly steaming and as he gets more frustrated or angry his body temperature increases causing combustion in the air around him if his anger level increases to an uncontrollable level Fireburn believes that if he lets his fire powers take control of him, he will be consumed by his on flames and be reborn as the dragon avatar his father wanted him to become.  His life is a battle against his father and his own inner-demons…literally.

Fireburn carries two rough iron swords that act as a natural ward against other demons as well as conductors of the mystic wards he has palced on himself to keep his powers in check.

Day 4 | Burning Arrow

| November 4, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 04

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

BURNING ARROW

The Junior Partner is obsessed with bows and arrows.  he saved up pocket change for seven months to buy a cheap plastic bow and and suction cup arrow set with his own money.  he loves Hawkeye and Green Arrow.  We were sitting around one evening getting ready for bedtime and drawing on his bedroom floor.  He started describing a robot with a boy and arrow that was part of him and that he made the arrows out of spikes and trash he found all around.  He could make these arrows combust or shoot lasers…how that would work, I don’t know.

So Burning Arrow is sort of a time warped Native American stereotype sent into an alternative/not-too-distant future where he becomes a cyborg who escapes and has to survive using his hunting and archery skills.

Day 3 | Firebat

| November 3, 2012 | 0 Comments

2012 – DAY 03

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

FIREBAT

After an afternoon drawing various styles of Batarangs and then helping me make them with duct tape and cardboard, the Junior Partner wanted a “really big Batarang” to wear on his back like a jet pack.  This then lead us down the avenue of making a Batman Armor, a favorite theme when sitting in his bad at night drawing by the glow of his night light when he should have been asleep.

I took one his own drawings and made my own version, he colored it in and then suggested some changes (“Bigger arm guns”) and viola, Firebat.

The backstory changes a bit depending on the retelling but essentially, Firebat was given this armor from a very familiar bat-themed billionaire vigilante to “fly around and make sure bad stuff doesn’t happen.”  When he launches himself into the sky, his metallic yellow wings ignite, leaving a glowing flame insignia in the sky as he makes his rounds.  His giant forearm blaster arrays shoot fire in various forms and flavors as well as heat based force bolts to knock down criminals and doors without burning them.

Day 2 | Birdclaw

| November 2, 2012 | 3 Comments

2012 – DAY 02

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

BIRDCLAW

The above design reflects a doodle I had left lying around…a redesign of the ROBIN costume for a Batman Fan-Art/Redesign Showcase I was toying with.  The Junior Partner took to the design and suggested various tweaks and after gardening at school, he wanted to add a garden claw style grappling hook/weapon like a bird of prey would use.

There’s not too much back story to the character except an “borrowed” acrobat/circus origin clearly inspired by hours of listening to my old 1970’s POWER RECORDS collection.

Day 1| Trap-Ninja

| November 1, 2012 | 1 Comment

2012 – DAY 01

All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.

TRAP-NINJA

Stemming from The Junior Partner’s love of traps a la Indiana Jones and Fred Jones (Scooby Doo), TRAP-NINJA is a character with light armor and ninja skills specializing in the creation and evasion/escape from various traps.  he carries various small tech devices for the creation of traps with items and available inventory.

The Junior Partner has a  penchant for hoods perhaps due to the ease of making hoods from towels and blankets allowing him to easily become the characters he has created.
