#16 Jolly Roger
All I had when I began this guy was the name ‘Jolly Roger’, that’s it. I think that’s the fun part of this – making stuff on the fly, pushing the imagination to work fast and loose. He’s not my favorite but I think he’s pretty unique and does give me a chuckle. π
#13-15 Vance Starblaster & Company
WOO-HOO! Mr. Lister is back with a pack of space pirates! These three have been around for years in my stack of sketchbooks & doodles. I have some stories written for them, its just a matter of making it happen in between everything else I’ve got going on. π Enjoy!
#11 Ironwolf
Ironwolf’s design goes back to high school — He had a whole different name, story & background — nothing related to Ironwolf at all other than his appearance.
#10 Gumshoe
Winston ‘Gumshoe’ Ralls is much different than what I had initially pictured. He was very ‘Rorschah’ looking with the typical long coat/fedora and a domino mask; that all got tossed with a different look not typically associated with ‘master detective.’ More influenced by ‘L.A. Confidential’ I think. Might of went a little heavy on the Photoshop trying for gritty/old photo but I think it’s still pretty successful. Enjoy!
#9 Faultline
Faultline’s real name is unpronounceable by the human tongue. It was originally dubbed ‘The Faultline Monster’ by the media as it came crawling up from the depths of the San Andreas fault line. In little time, it was shortened to ‘Faultline’.
#8 Dr. Bling
Another hero! Malcolm will be the ‘team leader’, so-to-speak, of a group of mutant teens. Their powers, including Malcolm’s, are brand new to each of them. Learning to deal with their bizzare abilities and deal with their rough lives will be their biggest challenge. Cool idea with a lot of rough edges. Could be something pretty solid with some more brain storming.
#7 Devastator
Did I tell you I love Kung-Fu/martial arts movies too? Jackie Chan rules, second only to the master – Bruce Lee. I’d love to flesh this story out further…one day… **Special thanks to Chad Welch for helping iron out some Devastator difficulties! Thanks, Brother! π
#6 Deadeye
Do spies ever retire? Surely they all don’t get bumped off or disappear, etc. I always wondered that about James Bond when I was a kid. Eventually, he’s gonna be too old to chase international villains, drive fast cars and seduce every woman he meets, right? This is where my idea for Donovan Drake, AKA: Deadeye came from. It’s not a new, brilliant story but he’s my answer to the that adolescent question. I went a different direction with the art this time. He’s a very 60’s flavored type of character. Equal parts Bond, Nick Fury, Man from U.N.C.L.E. so I went for a 60’s styled rendering to match. I think it’s pretty successful!
#5 Copperhead
Ooooh, that madman Professor Neutrino has done it again — transforming an innocent college student into another of his mutated lackeys!
#3 Blowfish
The Blowfish emits a neurotoxin through his razor sharp spines. If he puts enough pressure into his ‘puff’ he can expel the neurotoxin out of the spines into the air as fine mist! And YES, I revealed the name of another character to make his debut this month — the evil uberscientist, Professor Neutrino! (I’m feelin’ my inner Stan Lee taking over!) π
#2 BlockBoss
I absolutely love ‘The Godfather‘ trilogy, ‘Goodfellas’, ‘The Sopranos’ and everything else mob related, so a mafia bad guy was just a natural direction for one of these guys. Kinda silly, with a wink to Hammerhead and Tony Montana. π
#1 Baron Blacksoul
Here is the first for the month! Drawn & colored in Photoshop; logo created in Illustrator. Don’t have much to add that’s not already in the graphic. Favorite parts are the boots and skull hilt of the sword. All comments & critiques welcome — Enjoy!
