Elf Challenge #2 – Tiff Taff by Jon Morris

| November 8, 2012 | 1 Comment

Second in my Elf Challenge characters for the 30Character Challenge. I actually finished the drawing this weekend but I misplaced it, only found it to scan a couple nights ago.

We’re on day eight of the challenge and I’m currently coloring the third character, with characters #4 and #5 pencilled but not fleshed out. This drawing style is super time-consuming, I’m going to need to come up with a short-cut or a workaround (or maybe some characters don’t get the full color treatment).

Tiff-Taff is Frosby’s assistant, squiring the champion of the Big Green Forest in the long-running Elf Challenge Games…

Elf Challenge #1 – Frosby by Jon Morris

| November 2, 2012 | 3 Comments

This year, I’m doing characters from ELF CHALLENGE, a fictional comic I made up as a gag about a year ago. This is Frosby, squire to the champion of the Big Green Forest. He has to wear that glove to handle his master’s heavy, enchanted weapons …

#3 thru #5: Ulysses, Hermann Major and Eurydice Visser

| November 3, 2011 | 0 Comments

I’m going to be out of town for a week, so I wanted to get a little bit ahead. Who follows is:

Ulysses, the world-famous champion chicken, gold medal winner in more than a hundred Chicken Shows around the globe.

Hermann Major, the reclusive sausage magnate and owner of the Singing Lumbermill on the edge of town, where he maintains his secluded office and living quarters.

Eurydice Visser, the most beautiful woman in town. On the first Sunday of the month, every eligible man in town heads over to Eurydice’s champion chicken ranch to attempt to woo the sullen beauty, but she’s too lost in dreams of chicken competitions and a love she lost long ago to the wreck of the Whiskey Red Crow …

#2 – The Squonk

| November 2, 2011 | 5 Comments

The Squonk (Lacrimacorpus dissolvens), reputedly the ugliest creature in the world – he spends most of his time hiding in the woods and weeping quietly over his ugliness. His only friend is the guru recluse Colby Dozens, who helps The Squonk comb his belly fur up to hide his face …

#1 – Colby Dozens

| November 1, 2011 | 0 Comments

Six-foot-ten and four hundred pounds of muscle, Colby Dozens’ mighty swing made him the greatest lumberjack who ever lived. But one day, he left his axe buried in a great tree and wandered wordlessly into the woods. One hundred and forty days and nights of terrible storms passed, and Colby wandered back out of the woods, as placid and bright as a lighthouse. He lives deep in the woods and only comes out rarely to visit the town which lies in the shadow of the Wreck of the Whiskey Red Crow …

2011 Challenger: Calamity Jon Morris

| October 31, 2011 | 2 Comments

Howdy! My name is Jon Morris, I’m a Washington-based cartoonist who’s a first-timer in the 30 Characters Challenge. Many many moons ago I was the writer and artist on a webcomic called Jeremy:Just Turned Nine about the youngest son of Dr.Frankenstein, although I haven’t worked in comics in forever.

I’m using the 30 Characters challenge as a sketchbook for a story idea I’ve bouncing around my head for the last six months. Hopefully by having to build thirty characters around the premise, I’ll flesh out some of the half-formed ideas in my head and give myself a robust cast of characters around whom to build a comic.

My personal website is http://CalamityJonSave.Us where I only occasionally post, but recently I’ve spent most of my time managing to DC Fifty-Too project at http://dcfifty-too.blogspot.com/ and the CORNERED Blog at http://corneredblog.blogspot.com/. You can drop me a line at calamityjon@gmail.com – thanks, and good luck to everyone!
