Day 30-Diaspora
Diaspora is powered by the belief of oppressed people everywhere. Whether by petty tyrants or entire governments Diaspora exists to give a voice to and defend those who cannot defend themselves. As long as he is around no group of people will be pushed around again.
#29 Ou Wao
An Ou male with hair? Surely, how could this exist? Ou males shave their heads when they begin to mature mentally and act like well-brought up children. Not to insult a child of the Ou family, but Prince Ou Wao is not very smart. There’s nothing mentally wrong with him, he’s just kind of unintelligent. Wao also says whats on his mind, prefers to play with his food rather than eat it, and can’t sit still for long. Despite being 10, when most Ou children being to straighten out, Wao is still unremarkable in his sophistication. Â His parent’s have not given up on him, however, because there is a glimmer of hope in him. Calligraphy takes patience, grace, and serenity to master, and at his very young age, Ou Wao already has calligraphy to rival that the most impressive scribe. Even if he didn’t have this impressive talent, he is still a very earnest and forgiving person, and unlike most Ou, he is not particularly arrogant, if at all.
Character #30: One Shot!
This is it- the last one. I made it across the finish line despite fighting all manner of technical issues and daily schedule obstacles. I have been able to do work on a project I had on hold. I created some more characters to go with other ideas bouncing around in my mind- all in all, this challenge has been good for me. And it has been great to see soooo many other ideas and ways of presenting them from such a range of artists and writers. Hopefully this thing only continues to get bigger each year!
Anyway, One Shot is an assassin. She carries the minimal gear her mission requires, and she is not concerned with being cute or subtle in “executing” the prime goal of her mission because she is expert at blending into different cultural groups and she knows all the tricks of dump-and-evade. Keeping a distance, from employers as well as targets, has been a strategy that has worked well for her over her career.
Black Ice- one cold villain!
Originally, I had a fiery, crucible type of character in mind for this, but when I reversed to b & w on the eyes he seemed a colder character. The contrast of black and white, and the harsh zig-zagging on his design just seemed to work from that point on. I apologize for the scan quality- the machine at work wants to turn scans into quicktime movies, so when you open the image it can’t be saved or converted. I had to do a screen capture, move that image into Publisher, resize, and convert to jpeg. Whew! The pains I go through for my art!
#28 Ou No
One of the many Ou Children, Princess Ou No, 17, is one of the younger ones to achieve some degree of power. Gold and yellow colors are symbols of the Ou family’s power, and though she’s not wearing much, the Ao Liese can tell she has quiet a bit of power to dispose of. Being loud, opinionated, and arrogant like her brother Ou Ju, she has a reputation for abusing her ability to instantly have people thrown in jail. No also have the ability to make people do whatever she wants, but as No is not a people person, she’s never around enough people to abuse this power often. She does have a soft spot for paintings and sculptures, and when she’s not in the castle, she is looking at art around town.
#30 – Hidden Temple
The Secret at the Center of Everything. It is both the dwelling place and the in-dweller. Simultaneously occupying all points in Unknown space. Carved out of dark matters. Bejeweled in souls. Synchronicity its cornerstone. It is always there but never found. The world is something can never be grasped, never be known, its foundations are illusory, but the temple — the hidden temple — resists entropy, dynamically becomes both the foundation and the structure upon it, a huge ever-growing pulsating brain that rules from the center of the Ultraworld. The world they have not told you about, that whispers in your ear at night, just before you go to sleep.
Where geometry is character. Position is personality. Density is destiny.
Here, Molly Megaton is remembered as the greatest of Space Generals. King Lonesome is always singing “Justine”. It whispers the future to Hoshimaru; it is the home of the real person Phone Tree Woman desperately seeks and will never find. It drives Old Man Clock Killer to search for justice; it lives in the advanced soul of General Mister Whiskerkins. It’s the new thing that awakens the Petrikin, and the source of the strange star-stone that gave Sacco Hammers his powers. It is the cradle of Edam Pu Eman, and the grave of the Man of Sorrows. It’s what John Triggerman dreams in the day; the White Devil‘s elusive Big Score that stays just out of reach. To Lumumba Sagan, it is communication frozen in space, eternal. It’s where Genzy looks when reading the Akashic Record, the memory of all the People of Earth; yet it holds no sustenance for the Hype Eater, coalesces into no style that can be bitten by Swagger Jackson.
Here, Ta’aru loses its disquiet, cooing as it sleeps behind the Hidden Temple’s eyes. The Mapper is sketching its contours in his notebook, in the spaces between his drawings, it’s dawning on him. It’s John Henry‘s crucible, continually re-spawning him for his endless crusade. It is the gateway to Ekthuul the Raiser‘s coveted ‘Steady State’. The origin point of Rosebud Juarez‘s magical wound. Here, the unutterably ancient creators of the Ambassador Engine find their rest, at last.  The code for sax-13‘s ‘x module’ lives here, and breathes, together with the forgotten persona of Gloria Vaines.
The 93rd wanders here, in conversation with his Holy Guardian Angel, unaware he passes in the presence of The Legendary‘s Book of Rhymes, where Skyclad’s hometown of Black Rock City lives the other 51 weeks of the year. It is Jen Prime‘s elusive concrete evidence of the Subjective. It is the one place Eschaton can never go, for it has no end.
Haven’t you seen it? It’s here, right now, even in this very room. You’re looking right at it.
It is thinking of you. It is thinking you. It is you, thinking.
The idols inside are carved with your face, your real face, the one from before you were born. Don’t you remember?
#27 Yujote Kuma
Based on the old job of women sewing and buying clothes, a southern Nippon tradition is for women, on the 10th day on the 5th month, to give possible husbands a well-tailored and comfortable non-like kimono in an attempt to open contact between the two; the gesture is meant to say, “In a marriage between us, I will keep you comfortable.” The calligrapher Yujote Kuma had received a number of them every year on this day. On the 20th of the same month, men are supposed to deliver food to possible wives, preferably the one that sent them the kimono, as if to say, “In a marriage between us, you will not go hungry.” Kuma never responded to any of the advances on him, instead studying Harayin characters and perfecting his style. It is clear he wasn’t the culprit, but many, including his younger sisters, have died around him, causing his outlook to be bleak and melancholy. He was, however, sympathetic towards the deathly ill. Once, he traveled to a dying young girl’s home to keep her company during the last of her illness. She lived alone and was said not to pass on until Kuma stayed with her; when asked, Kuma would sadly say, “She couldn’t die alone.” It’s said that one of Huang Mu’s forms is based on the appearance of Yujote Kuma.
Day 30: Gemagomestecus
The first Emperor of Legoland was a young man, thirsty for conquering all the universe! But after he lost his family he got wiser and focused into making Legoland itself mighty. The legend says that after a millenia, his legs were transformed into the Lego River, his body into the Lego Forest and his royal cloak to the Mount Lego and also, that he is still watching over the Legolanders over the top of the mountain…
Day 29: Spyrus
S.P.Y.R.U.S. is the universal company of Lego Space Pirates! They hunt down whatever is shiny, techy or useful to their cause: to be rich!
And this is the archnemesis of Black Steel, their bloodthirsty robotecha leader, Spirous Speram!
#30 CeeCee Anderman, Pareidolist
CeeCee Anderman is a Pareidolist — she can cause anything that seems to have a face to her to come alive briefly, conversing with her about whatever it has seen or heard. Or about wattage and ohms — outlets are always going on about that rubbish.
