#16 Science Vessel Captain S’Jenes
Starfleet Science Vessel Captain S’Jenes has a problem: He knows dragons and mythical creatures are not real. And yet, he sees them when no one else can. Logically he must be hallucinating, but there is no medical or psychological evidence for that hypothesis. Other than, you know, the fact that he can see the little buggers.
#16 – Vera Macrae.
A place like Highacre draws a lot of different people to it. Vera Macrae came here as a young girl. Leaving her the home in Scotland that she adored so her dad could come and work the thriving docks Highacre. Vera’s mother ran a local shop; she sold old books and trinkets nothing very exciting to the eyes of a young girl like Vera.
Now eighty years later Vera runs the shop, her parents long since passed. Her interest in the shops wares has grown a great deal of the years. The spark of interest was ignited the evening an old gentleman in a long flowing coat came calling, his knock came at well past midnight. Vera snuck down the stairs to see her mother handing the man what looked like an old wooden jewelry box she had seen about a hundred times, just resting on the mantle piece in the lounge. His face lid up as he opened the lid pulling out a heart shaped crystal from within. Crushing it in his frail old hands the gentleman ate every last piece of the crystal. Vera couldn’t believe her eyes as the old mans face stretched and then pulled taut, right in front of her as she watched him grew younger and younger, until he stood, tall and handsome no older than twenty. The gentleman thanked her mother, handed her a selection of small diamonds and other wondrous looking gems before turning and leaving.
Over the next few years Vera saw more and more of these strange events, woman vanishing into old mirrors, rings healing a broken limbs. Vera final confronted her parents about what was going on. They couldn’t hide the truth anymore and told her everything. They where the crafters and collectors of all manner of magical, mystical and supernatural trinkets and charms, the experts in the fields of magical constructs and transferral of magical energy to a non magical item. It all seemed so wonderful to her back then as she was trained and educated in all these new and exciting things.
After fifty years of running the place alone, dealing with all sorts of strange people and creatures, all in search of power or knowledge through her wares, she was sick and tired, ready for something else.
Luca Bell the local crime boss and by all accounts vampire had sent men to turn her place over twice in the last month, he was just like all the others looking for something, acting like Vera had something secret and hidden away. They never found anything and would leave her to clean up their mess.
They never paid attention to her tiny little lounge upstairs.
Opening the old wooden jewelry box on her mantle piece Vera looked longingly at the crystal heart inside, it was nearly ready a month more and it would be fully formed, after all these years of waiting. Vera could finally do something new; she could be anything she wanted in her new life. And Vera wants to be young and powerful.
#16 Carlton Hermsley, Were-Douche
What happens when a perfectly nice wolf-guy is bitten by a rabid hipster phony? When the full moon sets, Carlton knows…
#7 The Annunciator
Constance Punnoose was always a bit of a quiet girl. There were long stretches where she would go without saying a word. Keeping to herself, she excelled at her studies but went about her days being virtually unnoticed. And if she were being honest with herself, she kind of liked it that way.
One day, a fight broke out at her school. She saw a group of bullies cruelly beating up a quiet boy who was sort of a friend of hers. As much as someone could be without ever actually speaking to them. Anyway, it was getting brutal & she had had enough. She screamed “STOP IT YOU JERKS!” & the words came out, but not as a sound. The phrase, shooting from her mouth, hit the assailants & pinned them to the ground.
It was at that moment that Constance’s mutant power first manifested. From that moment forward, every word she has tried to say has become a physical object that projected from her mouth. At first, she looked at it as an affliction, & herself a freak. But the boy she saved convinced her that it was a gift, one she should use to fight crime. And that’s when she became the Annunciator.
Here, she is pictured talking some smack as a matter of demonstration. She’s still learning the ins & outs of controlling her ability. One of the first things she noticed was that certain words will take on the quality of their meanings. For instance, if she says “Fire” the word will suddenly burst into flames. Saying “Acid” will eat a hole through the floor. Volume, speed, & pronunciation dictate how large, the speed it travels, & long the word lasts before evaporating into thin air like dry ice. Another fun wrinkle she’s noticed recently is that if she directs a verb at someone, they will immediately, almost involuntarily do as they were told. In once instance, she yelled “Drop” at an armed robber pointing a gun at her. She intended for him to drop the gun, which he did, upon his immediate collapse to the floor.
Still, she’s looking for a way to able to communicate vocally without hurting anyone. She currently relies on a mixture of American Sign Language & a trusty notebook mostly, but is still on the lookout for a language that will allow her to speak once again like a normal person. So far, she’s had a little bit of luck with the recently extinct language of the Eyak people of Alaska, but only with certain phrases.

There’s got to be a character with this ability somewhere. I mean it’s just one of those things that feels like it should already exist but I can’t think of another character who has it. So I went with it. Am I missing one?
Catching up is looking less & less likely as the end of this month begins to start looking pretty hectic. That said, I’m going to give it a valiant effort & keep trying. I’ve gotten 30 in the past but this time around, I’m liking most of these characters more & like how they look finished up. So I’m going to move at my own pace & if I hit the goal great. If not, well I still win because I’m pretty happy with the results.
Day 16: 21st Century Sandshark Studios Presents: Professor Paradox
21st CENTURY SANDSHARK STUDIOS PRESENTS
A DAN NOKES HAPPENING…
THE 30 CHARACTERS IN 30 DAYS CHALLENGE
DAY 14: PROFESSOR PARADOX
CHARACTER BIOGRAPHY: Little is known about the being known as Professor Paradox. What we do know is that he a creature that although looks and may have even at one point, had been human. He now is a creature of almost god like stature. His purpose in existence is to travel through space and time and cause events that result in paradoxes, and unstable temporal tangent and pocket universes. These events will gradually become unstable and self annihilate. The result is a huge amount of entropy energies that Paradox feeds off of. This energy gives him a wide range of powers including, time and space travel and manipulation, energy manipulation, super strength and regeneration abilities.
Paradox became known to our world roughly in the early 1950’s, when he came in contact and conflict with the costumed adventurer group known as The Alliance. He met up again with them and other super beings from the 1950’s through the mid-1970’s. After the Ghor Event of 1975 Paradox disappeared from official record until a few years ago, when he began to resurface in London, New York, and DC. His activities have been muted and somewhat under the radar, but rest assured will become known in the fullness of time…

Day 16 | All-American
2012 – DAY 16
All characters are created by my 5 year-old son, The Junior Partner.  He has either drawn these characters on his own and I have recreated them here, or he has sat at my elbow dictating design and conceptual ideas like a creative, but frenetic, taskmaster.
ALL-AMERICAN
A professional athlete who excelled at every sport, All-American became a soldier and went on to work with the Army to wear a special suit that absorbed physical and energy damage and then stored the energy to be used as various physical attacks.  All-American could achieve significant superhuman strength, speed, or endurance depending on how he chose to use the energy stored in the suit.  At its base levels the suit allows All-American enhanced durability in extreme conditions as well as basic defense against physical and energy attacks.
#09: Derrik Bowen
I’ve been working on his story for a couple of days, but he has a secret which makes him very different compared to his fellow classmates. Â His favorite subject is Physics and he wants to become a pilot.
#08: Kristoph Grimalda
He’s the gentle (human) giant who takes care of the group. Â He’s the main cook while also being the tank. Â He has wears a hybrid of leather and branded mail armor. Â Most of the scars on his face were due to accidents.
#07: Johanna Grimalda
I would consider her as the rogue of  the mythical team.  She is human and rarely shows her soft side.
elemental samba cats – colour
day 15. added some colours. still playing around with parts of the design.
#14 – Centauri (Tim Stewart)
A nationally famous superhero, Centauri is an A-lister that can be found around doing work all across the the country and internationally. Stewart is incredibly famous, running now in the most rarefied circles.
Centauri greatly enjoys his position of eminence among superheroes, and he doesn’t hide it that often. He knows his position, knows his status, and isn’t afraid to let other people know it as well. He is the founder and leader of Redemption, a small quartet of A-list heroes from across the nation that do a great deal of charitable work, and generally only step in to fight crime when the threat is something significantly large.
Tim Stewart has had an interesting life so far. He became a hero immediately at 18 after his powers manifested the year before. He quickly became famous, but saw his image take a major hit when he was accused of sexual assault when he was 21. Nothing was proven and the case was dropped. Soon afterwards, Stewart had a high-profile marriage with a superheroine, had a son, and got divorced within two years. He found himself on the downside of the business for a few years before he found religion and made his way back to the pinnacle of the superhero community. Stewart, now 45, is kind of the self-appointed “elder statesman†of the community, albeit not everyone likes him. He knows the “business” inside and out, and can be an exhausting teammate to work with. He is a perfectionist, expecting the same of those he works with, unwilling to hear any insubordination from teammates.
Stewart’s name as a hero means everything to him. Centauri is a name that commands respect or fear, and he wants to keep it that way. He enjoys his primacy, and is immensely distrustful and resentful of anyone who might challenge it.
He is not married, and has been a bachelor since his divorce, and has had a number of rumored relationships with heroines and celebrities.
Despite, or some might say, due to his history, Stewart went to religious school in his 30’s, and became an ordained Preacher. He used his considerable fortune (and donations) to help fund the building of a Megachurch in the North Bronx, the Angels of Grace Baptist Church. He is largely committed to being there for his parishioners, although his duties often call him away.
Stewart’s 23-year-old son is Jeffrey. Their relationship is strained, as, for a long time, Stewart had groomed Jeffrey, expecting the child to manifest powers and take up the mantle of Centauri when he retired. However, Jeffrey never manifested, or showed any signs of doing so, and Centauri could not hide his disappointment. Jeffrey signed up for the Marines when he turned 18, partially to get away from the scrutiny, partially to prove himself to his father, who has always viewed him as a kind of disappointment for not having powers. He served two tours of duty, was wounded and honorably discharged, before returning home. He is still between lives, having spent his life trying to simultaneously escape from his father’s shadow (which he knows is impossible) and trying to make his father proud.
10 – Richter Corvin, The Demon of Barovia
The elder Prince of Ligothia, a territory on the outskirts of Barovia, haunted as the survivor of a war that he never actually attended. What befell him during his supposed time in the Barovan Conflict remains a mystery, but he returned dead inside, turned to drink and prone to bouts of night terrors and almost catatonic despair. His father, Duke Alfonz of Ligothia, already displeased with his oldest son’s laziness and arrogance before the war, passed the family inheritance on to the second child in an unprecedented move. Richter, in a fit of rage, murdered his calculating and callous wife that very night and fled the kingdom.
Some said that, as he fled uncontested by the superstitious guards of the palace, he loped along the main street on all fours, a sheet of his wife’s blood raining from his jaws, off into a sudden bank of fog…
Day 16 – Superdead
Cedric is a superhero. His rotten heart is kind and he always helps the ones in need of help. With his knowledge of dark arts and necromancy he protects Earth from evil spirits. He may look dreadful, but he is a good guy.
Day 15: Winston, Boy Genius
Young Winston was the pride of the Queen’s University. The only son of a famous playwright and a respected biologist, Winston was a prodigy by age 4, and became the youngest student ever admitted, at 11, to Her Majesty’s institution of higher learning. Though his brilliance outgrew his small form, his judgement was not as developed. A secret experiment involving dark energies and untested theories left him horrifically transformed. Still, full of curiosity and determination, he continues his study, confident that he will find a cure for his “condition”, or uncover something more interesting in the process.Â
#15 Dragon Girl
Left the back white because I felt like this was busy enough as it is. Not sure if I like it or not??? Anyway half dragon-half human she does breathe fire and a whip is her choice of weapon so why not combine the two?
Day 15: Wowster
Wowster is a very sophisticated young man. He is a grand collector of trousers, owning thousands of pants varying in style , color and occasion. He is so passionate about trousers that he actually invents and makes his own, making the world of trousers more expansive day by day. Because if his hobby, Wowster is known for being the best dressed in town and an expert in many things. He goes on many adventures, always sure to wear to right trousers for the right situation.
I tried to make him look a little more storybook-like, but I had a long day and I don’t think I’m at my best. I think I’ll give him another redraw tomorrow if I have the time.
#30Characters Chatter…
