A New Challenger Has Appeared!

| November 1, 2012 | 2 Comments

Hello My name is Zach Seiner, also know on many sites as Starfighterace.  I am new to this challenge and hope I’m doing this right…  I’m a student studying Illustration and Engineering.  So don’t expect anything super professional looking.  I’m doing this as a way to keep busy and practice my skills as an artist.

Some of my better drawings.

Oh and here’s what I look like.

Richard of Kent

Richard of Kent, an archer in the army of King Henry the Fifth of England wandered from the field of Agincourt and came upon a mysterious glowing green fog. He wandered lost in the fog for a time, and when the fog cleared he found himself in the man made canyons of New York City. Specifically he was standing in the middle of Time Square at night. Confused he came under the sway of a corrupt politician with detailed historical knowledge. Richard swears his allegiance to this dark hearted man who seeks to over throw the American system of Democracy and instate himself as a Medieval style King. Richard of Kent is dubbed Black Bow by the media when he is seen pursuing his new master’s evil plans.

#1 Rudy

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Rudy is a character in a hypothetical story set in a post apocalyptic universe.  Earth is still inhabited by survivors, but humans search beyond the planet for other habitable planets. Rudy is human, however, all surviving humans, due to consequences of the Final War, must be sustained by life support suits which keeps them alive in the absence of a fully developed body, which usually means they have no skull to protect their brain.

1/1/12 Philippa Steed — shapeshifting superhero

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Human form:  Philippa is a tall and powerfully built woman with warm soft gentle brown eyes and long flowing chestnut hair.  She moves with a calm easy assurance and gives little doubt that she can take care of herself.

Animal form: A chestnut mare with a single star as a marking.

Philippa loves humanity, or, rather, she is fascinated by people.

As a human, she works out of the basement of the whorehouse as a Dominatrix, and takes classes to become a licensed social worker and psychotherapist.

As a horse, she has befriended an outcast teenage girl and the two of them have formed a partnership that gives the girl confidence and something to look forward to and be proud of, and has given both of them a sense of belonging that has been missing in their lives.

The Diva DJ with a heart of Platinum

Ms. Fancy Bones is a DJ by night and sometimes a hero by that same night.  She has bones of diamond and her organs are platinum, liquid gold runs through her veins, her skin is just skin…which sometimes poses a problem.  She is a member of a team of heroes who can’t agree on their team name (She calls them The Scream Queens), though she isn’t at the level of most of them.  She specializes in sets based of her favorite Halloween movies.

#1 Crazy Hands

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

My first post of the 2012 challenge!

This character is called “Crazy Hands”, for a number of reasons:

  • It’s an affectionate nickname, necessary due to the fact that the only sounds he seems capable of making are shrieking laughter and a guttural, repetitive sound that resembles giggling.
  • He has the league record in outfield catches for his after work softball team
  • He has unwanted thoughts syndrome, and keeps dropping his medicine.
  • He seems to be comprised entirely of hands and crazy.

Excited to be participating again this year-good luck, everybody!

Pokemon – Tuft and Flotsam.

I decided to start this challenge with some Pokemon, Ive always wanted to design Pokemon and I think they were definitely the epitome of character design for me when I was a kid.

These are plant Pokemon, Sand dune species. 🙂

Archangel Michael

The Archangel Michael is also the Patron Saint of Law Enforcement. I wanted to sketch him first because my thoughts are with some of my good friends here in Michigan who are currently working on cases involving some pretty unsavory characters. I hope everything goes well for you guys and I hope all of you stay safe in the coming days/weeks. Thanks for everything you do!

The Red Onion

Day 1: The Pulse

| November 1, 2012 | 3 Comments

A mysterious android of unknown origin, The Pulse, as the news media called it, appeared near Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive. Though it did not harm any civilians who looked on in shock at the strange machine, The Pulse proceeded to drain the entire downtown area’s power grid. Police response was met with a wailing shriek that sent the police flying and overturning cars and waste bins. One unfortunate officer opened fire and was met with severe electrical shock to his body.

And just as mysterious as it appeared, it vanished into a huge pillar of light. The incident was called “The Pulse Incident.” From time to time, The Pulse would appear around different parts of the world, siphoning off energy from urban areas or power plants and defending itself upon confrontation. Though speculation runs rampant, no one truly knows what the Pulse is doing with all its stolen power, and even more terrifying, what would happen should it “accomplish” its unknown task?

Abillities: The Pulse possesses a limitless capacity for energy absorption that it collects and regulates via the torso and various lights on its body. The Antenna on its head seems to be the Pulse’s point of focus, as it is the first indicator of an attack as electricity flows from the antenna. With energy absorbed, the Pulse is capable of energy projectiles, teleportation, enhanced strength and energy conduction.

Inception: The Pulse was based on the design of Ultimate Captain Marvel from years ago. I’ve refined the idea over time to make it more machine than human, but kept aspects of Ultimate Captain Marvel while adding the new Iron Man suit. The energy pulse coming off its torso was an idea I thought of, as I pictured a machine that was a “walking EMP” yet contradictory,as it is a machine that shuts off other machines save itself. Or does it? The main purpose of this character is up in the air, as the premise is what I made of it and feel a mystery character will be fun to flesh out over time during an arc or a superhero campaign.

Day 1: Doctor Apokalypz

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Doctor Karl Heinz Apokalypz was a brilliant Bavarian scientist who became obsessed with the Thule Society, a German occultist group that was rumored to have had the likes of Rudolf Hess among it’s members. While attempting to make contact with the mythical city the group is named for, Apokalypz instead contacted an off-planet being that possessed his body and spirit giving him unnatural strength and turning his skin into a rocky metallic substance. Presently he is plotting to destroy the Awesome 5! and was last seen watching them on a monitor in his lair as they received  mad props from the president for defeating the evil Ramses (as seen in Awesome 5! #1).

Hi Everybody!

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

At the last moment I’ve decided that I will commit to the #30characters challenge!  I attempted this challenge last year only to not actually post any of the five designs that I created and subsequently fail.  This year I plan on at least submitting some characters!  🙂

I’m the artist and co-creatof of the webcomic Kid Robo (with my writing partner Marc Deschamps) and the Art Director of Gray Haven Comics.

It’s nice to meet you all and let’s have some fun creating characters!  🙂

#01 – Su

| November 1, 2012 | 2 Comments

Su looks calm and silent but she never stops talking 24/7 with a low hissy voice, just like she never sleeps. Like the running water, her power, she’s always on the move because if she ever stops, her thoughts about the dying world will take over and she’ll fall into a killing depression. The saying “Still water runs deeps” may not be fitting to her regarding her ongoing chatter, but it sure does regarding her state of mind.

2012 Challenger: dee Juusan

| November 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Hello everyone~
I am Diana Al-Abbadi from Jordan, mostly known as dee Juusan, the pen-name I write as. I am a full time self-published manga/comic artist and I work as a freelance character designer and illustrator on the side.

I have an ongoing slice-of-life series; Grey is… with +400 pages of story which is published in two books so far and I’ve just started writing in the 3rd one. I am also working on another series; Name in Stone on a weekly basis rather than daily as “Grey is…”. I have other one-shots that are released and in the making. You can find out more about my work and updates through my blog.

I am excited about this 30 character challenge. I first knew about it last year when it was already starting so I made it my goal to participate this year. I don’t have much of a plan for the characters I’m going to create, I only decided that I want to try and draw all characters outside my comfort zone or characters that I don’t normally write about with different looks and styles, even mediums I use. So, there might not stories and bios provided with all the characters since my main goal here to draw ones that I wouldn’t draw in normal circumstances, a super hero with gigantic muscles and inhuman proportions, for example.

I hope this will be fun for all~

Thanks for reading.

#01: Pan-Pan de Kumba

| November 1, 2012 | 1 Comment

Pan-Pan

Though this year’s challenge I’m working with my writer, this character was a solo creation by me and suggestion from a friend of a friend.  She suggested me to create a character based off of the animal, the panda.  I was inspired by a college friend who tends to wear very fashionable items, another friend who part of her name is Pamela’s, and the original “Panda Hero” music video.  I’d say she is chaotic neutral since she both works with and against the law.  Even though in reality she stands out, Pamela does her best to hide herself virtually.  Pan-Pan de Kumba is her “code name.”
