#21 – Johnny Ramensky – Thief
These days, it seems like the ideal of the Gentleman Thief is a dying breed. And so we present Johnny Ramensky, Thief-y counterpart to Our Lady of the Rogue Shotgun miss Belle Starr. Johnny here was a career criminal back in Scotland during the early 20th century, and quickly garnered the nickname “Gentle Johnny,†as he never used violence, targeted only businesses, and never resisted arrest. Mr. Ramensky was pretty dang skilled, combining his talent for gymnastics with a knowledge of safecracking that made him a master catburgler of the old school. Johnny further proved his mettle during World War II, when he became — and this is 100% true — a parachuting safe-cracking commando. He’d drop below enemy lines, break through Axis defenses, steal their secrets and high-tail it back home. His most amazing caper involved breaking open no fewer than 14 safes in one day, a feat that earned him some impressive commendation.
As I mentioned in the Rogue entry, the Thief is the more item-obsessed of the two outlaw-style classes. Thieves specialize in jumping behind the foe’s guard and stealing them blind, sometimes causing damage or status effects at the same time. The line between Thief and Rogue is often a bit thin, just like the line between Robin Hood and common cutpurse, but given Johnny Ramensky’s disavowal of violence and warm regard towards the people who were trying to catch him, I felt Thief was a good fit.
#21-Sal Amander
Born near the canals of Venice, Italy young Sal Amander had one dream in life, to be the greatest pizza chef in the world. Sal has traveled the world on his quest and now runs the most popular pizziera in New York’s Little Italy.
#19 – The Sacrificed
The old man had worked this humble patch of soil for all of his life. His family all grew here with him, close- knit and loving. With Mitra’s blessing, he had prospered. But none of that mattered now, as he watched, stunned, from the far road, his homestead well ablaze, and bodies- oh, please, not this- bodies laying in the dust.
Out of the darkness and smoke of the night galloped a figure, a mockery man and beast, a hellspawn dressed in his own stolen garb. But what truly froze his blood to the core was the goat- like visage and countenance the monster bore, the contempt in the inhuman golden eyes as they swiveled onto his position… eyes that he remembered looking back into his, innocent and trusting, as he had slashed the dagger across it’s throat… and had praised Mitras for all that was to come.
#21 Taika Blaze
One of the most powerful arcane benders in the society of arcana, she is widely respected, and admired. Â This has made her haughty, over confident, and has developed a sense of superiority.
#21: Kerazy Ninja
This is Kerazy Ninja (Father’s Note: It is spelled like it sounds…KE-RAZE-EE). He’s a good guy ninja that blasts fire sometimes, too.
Thanks, Xavier
Killswitch
Killswitch is a super-powered assassin. Â He has the ability to absorb ambient energy, usually enough to cause power-outages. Â Once charged, he’s been known to electrocute his prey with his own two hands.
#20-Bitebots
Occasionally using inept disguises, but generally relying purely on sheer weight of numbers-the Bitebots can drag down even the largest of prey. Many have chuckled at their cuteness only to find their shoes suddenly ruined by dozens of tiny punctures.
Beware!
#21 – Kid Joe
#21 – Kid Joe
Honestly, I drew this picture in an attempt to see if I could create something from scratch that has two different levels of perspective. My goal was to show the hand with the thumbs up coming out toward you, but I’m not sure that it worked.
So instead, let’s pretend I intended to draw a young kid with a huge hand. In fact, let’s name him Kid Joe and say he’s in the running to be the international Thumb Wrestling champion. Kid Joe has trained all his life with his giant right hand to refine the techniques needed to pin his opponents in the thumb wresting arena.
Joe’s goal is to travel to Europe and train under the thumb masters before entering the final competitions. While he’s just a young man, Joe has the talent and a giant thumb that can take him to the next level.
# 21 – Kiwi
Kiwi is not a kiwi, although he is a bird. He flies by using his tail as a propeller. He is energetic and excitable, and sometimes rushes off before he knows all of the facts of a situation.
[In 1974, at the age of 12, I drew a series of “comic books” detailing the adventures of Merrill, a 15-year-old human boy, in the Other Land, an invisible dimension which co-exists with our own. The characters I am submitting throughout the 30 Days are the inhabitants of the Other Land.]
#20 Israfel & Lucasta
Israfel & Lucasta
Israfel and Lucasta are Scarlet-ranked initiates of the Mysteries, a Greco-Egyptian mystery cult, and as such are allowed to mingle with outside society in a 10th century Baghdad where magic is the province of scholars and new Greek and Indian sciences mingle with Aztec flying machines. They operate, at the behest of their superiors, as magical detectives of sorts. Israfel and Lucasta both left their native cultures to become initiates in The Mysteries. Because they are considered exotic outsiders, they’re able to get away with asking questions and going places that others can’t.
Israfel used to be  Jörgen, a Viking, and he’s a giant Nordic dude who is paradoxically curious and bookish. Israfel is a music-master and writer. In Arabic his cult name means “the burning one†and fire spells are indeed a specialty.
Lucasta was originally Femi, hailing from the Yoruba empire, and is a striking, Amazonian woman whose urban sophistication hides a childlike sense of wonder. Lucasta’s name means “pure light†(lux casta) and casting light-related spells are her preferred technique. Also means a degree of invisibility, but also her ability to pierce the veil of time without using traditional forms of divination.
Israfel refuses to wear sandals like everyone else. It drives Lucasta crazy. Otherwise, they get along pretty well, they both geek out over magic and bond over their outsider status both in Baghdad and at home. Recently, one of the founders of the Mysteries was found murdered, and suspects are numerous. Not only are nobles of the Caliphate jealous of the power and secrecy the Mysteries wield, the other cultures with a presence in Baghdad would like to get their hands on some of that power as well. From jealous Mayan astronomers to greedy Templars, from the Hashishim of Alamut to Taoist mystics, enemies appear to be on all sides. How do you solve a murder when all of your suspects are magicians?
#21 Swap Meet
Swap Meet is the most unusual of all of the members of the Collection Agency, his store of Collectibles defies usefulness or reason. He will also stop randomly to spout off about fair market value and to argue about price. His weaponry often looks like something out of a pawn shop and he usually wears some kind of bizarre sunglasses.
#21 – Leafy Pete
Another non-Doodze character for Doodze. Leafy Pete is my attempt at creating a variation on the talking tree creature often seen in fantasy stories.
#20 – Alice
Alice is one of the most recent freshmen in high school. Â When Austin informs her of Julia and how her intention is to get as many students into her club as possible, Alice makes a mental note to avoid her and anyone in the club. Â She was nearly dragged into it, but thankfully for her, Megumi (Meg) told Julia that she wasn’t going to recruit anymore students without their consent, and Alice simply walked away.
Alice is very aware of what’s going on and is not at all clumsy. Â She also has a lot of respect for Meg, especially for saving her from Julia.
Alice is 14 years old.
#19 – Danny
Danny, like many great knights, would rather go around and fight to protect his kingdom. Â But when a young villager manages to find a mysterious sword, he puts his plans on hold to supervise the young man in order to prevent him from getting into too much trouble. Â He certainly finds him annoying, but if he wants to remain protector of his kingdom, it’d be wise not to leave the kid unattended.
#18 – Rachel
Rachel is the head of a group of young people whose job is to find people who would want to try out their newest obstacle course. Â Rachel is generally very calm, but also fairly mean-spirited.
#21 vrole- companion to darkness
vrole is a sad little thing. it brings chaos and distruction and other loud things wherever it goes. the only time it is happy is when it’s friend darkess comes to visit. and when darkness is around, vrole is very very happy… will be showing up in teddy bear network .
#20 – The Haggard Writer
This young writer, Diane, has a problem.
She never really wanted to be a writer, but a character she made one day began to start bothering her of it’s own accord. She eventually learned that for each character she made up in her mind, it’d fester around as a hallucination, or even an alternate personality of herself… until she wrote it down and gave it a story. It drives her crazy – she’s no good at writing! But she has to do it, or else she goes mad from the random passing characters that flicker in her head…
There’s one guy she’ll never write a story for… her childhood imaginary friend. They’ve been through a lot together, and she’s just not ready to let him go yet…
21 – Wild Bengal by Beausephus
CHARACTER NAME: Â Wild Bengal
DATE OF CREATION: Â 1992 or 1993, the 92-93 era thereabouts…
CONCEPT: Â A master thief builds himself a suit of armor, but then is killed by an assassin hired by his rival. Â The assassin takes the exoskeleton and uses it to enhance his natural skills. Â He takes the name WILD BENGAL and acts as contract assassin with a heart of gold who only takes on targets that fit within his personal moral code.
_________________________
Objectively, dressing in colors in the orange range might not be the best garb for an assassin. Â Nevertheless, the character Wild Bengal went through various permutations and origins before falling strictly into the criminal/anti-hero role.
Since the armor the character wears was developed by a thief for thievery, it is lightweight and absorbs shock/impact/energy. Â The costume is highly flexible, perfect for a trained assassin in either covert activity or hand to hand combat. Â Wild Bengal modified the suit with claws and stylized equipment more in fitting with his name.
Looking at the character now, I like the concept but would take the character in a direction akin to the Pierce Brosnan assassin movie, THE MATADOR, a hired killer reexamining his hallow life and searching for meaning by developing standards and morals…except with more spandex clad super characters and hi-tech espionage.
Thanks for checking out my stuff…
