#5 Adia Kennedy

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

Adia grew up with the dreams of domestic bliss in her head. She read all the right magazines, shopped at the right stores, went to the right parties and, thankfully, fell in love with the right man. They were married and settled happily into a home just in time for Adia to become pregnant with her first of what would eventually be three lovely children. Of course, when her husband started to come home from work later and later every night, Adia was pretty sure she knew why (she’d certainly read enough magazines to have a good idea). And when her children’s grades fell further and further behind, she began to fret that her happy life was falling apart. And then she got hit by a bus outside of the supermarket.

She woke up in the Otherlife, the more-or-less mirror image of the world she knew, with a shape that was fitting the harpy of a woman she actually was. Her perfect black hair had been transformed into feathers, her arms into strange wing-like abominations, and her feet were wickedly sharp talons that tilled the dirt as she walked. For days she wandered, chewing on half-dead plants for nourishment, searching for some purpose or reasoning to her new circumstances.

When she happened upon the remains of a battle between two warring gangs, she met an older gorgon-lady who offered a bargain: if Adia would care for the woman until she passed, the gorgon would fill her in on the meaning of the Otherlife. With nothing to lose, Adia took her up on that offer and, for the next week, made sure the gorgon was alive enough to teach her everything she needed to know.

After the gorgon’s death, Adia set out into the Otherlife, armed with the truth and, if not a purpose, at least an idea of what could distract her from the thoughts of home that nagged at the back of her head. At the very least, she decided, she could make sure the Otherlife was an interesting one indeed.

#4 Plaid Ninja

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

Evil lurks in the hearts of men! After the strangest day in her life as a medical intern in the hospital around the corner, one girl decides that enough is enough! She becomes the Plaid Ninja, a terror to any who seek to do crime in her fair city! …or at least, those who try to beat the hospital vending machine into spitting out more bags of chips.

The Plaid Ninja is a master of stealth (she knows where the shadows are, at least), a formidable hand-to-hand combat fighter (if a pair of sai she bought online count as hand-to-hand), a clever and witty wordsmith (whenever she’s drunk off her ass, as far as she can remember), and possesses an undauntable soul (hell, she made it through pre-med).

She knows better than to get in the way of the more well-established superheroes, like the Teen Roach or American Bald EagleMan, but the Plaid Ninja is well aware that there are more important things for the higher-ups to be paying attention to than the petty injustices on the street. So, feel fear, jaywalkers! Beware, parking ticket dodgers! Watch your watch, laundromat users! The Plaid Ninja is here for justice!

Description:
The Plaid Ninja has a carrot-colored ponytail she shoves under her plaid ninja mask to help conceal her identity. It has occurred to her that the mole by the inside of her left eye might give her away, but after a fairly embarrassing scenario involving a pair of goggles (she’s got a wicked case of head-based claustrophobia) she decided it was best to go with a less restrictive sort of mask.

#16 Sly Seskimo

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

With hungry eyes on Europe, ‘Sly’ Seskimo has been subtly silencing her opponents at home by blowing them all up. She liked America and she took it, bombs and all… and if a cybernetic frogspawn, dirty cockney and clumsily destructive Swede think they’re going to stake a claim for it, they might find a subtle reminder of her explosive credentials in their own backyards. This war is on.

Posting a little earlier. 🙂

joshua is a strange character. he lies on a rusting metal bedframe and dirty matress in a dark, rotting room. the room is in a decaying wooden mill on the banks of an underwater stream. to get there you must follow a mineshaft to the bottom.

joshua lies on this bed all day, all night, and does not move. people are searching for him – his sister has come to the underground mill. but she can’t find him, and keeps calling out to him.

and all he hears is a soft dripping of water.

joshua’s based off of a dream i had, and possibly will get a minicomic sometime next october. we’ll see.

#3 Amity

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

When Amity was a little girl, she had no idea what she was going to be when she grew up. And when she grew up, she found herself drifting as aimlessly as she had played when she was a kid. She failed out of her junior year of college and started hitchhiking across the country. When she reached one end, she decided to walk back herself.

At some point during the hitchhiking part of her journey, Amity began to realize that something was different about her. She didn’t consider herself to be particularly clever, or even deserving of any fortune that might fall her way. But yet that luck continued to befall her, sometimes in completely ridiculous ways. When a lonely trucker decided he deserved some physical compensation for giving her a lift, the truck was immediately stopped at a random checkpoint and the trucker arrested on an outstanding warrant for 64 unpaid parking tickets. When a mugger cornered her in a dark alley, the sewer lid beneath his feet exploded upward from a freak steam pressure backup in the sewers below, sending him bouncing between the brick walls long enough for Amity to escape. And on top of those crazy occurrences, she always got where she was going, she was always fed, and she always found somewhere warm to sleep.

Amity knows, deep-down (although the rational part of her tries to deny it) that she has something special, be it ridiculous luck or a guardian angel, but she can’t figure out why. So rather than fuss over it, she continues wandering from city to city, seeing the country while waiting to find her true purpose. She’s pretty confident she’ll live that long, at least.

Description:
A willowy girl with little shape besides ‘stick’, Amity stands about 5′ 6” with mousy brown hair chopped in ragged layers shoved beneath a baby blue winter cap with matching pompom adornments. She wears an ill-fitting t-shirt topped with a long knitted vest, along with baggy pair of denim shorts and mismatched knee-high socks. Her eyes, usually hidden behind her bangs, sparkle bright blue whenever she’s actually interested in something, which actually isn’t all that often in the first place.

Day 11 – Joaquin

| November 15, 2011 | 1 Comment

Captain of the Razuli royal guard. Also the personal bodyguard of the leader of the Razuli, the Boy-King Valence. He served Valence’s father as well. So he’s really much older than he looks. But then again, the Razuli aren’t exactly…of this world, shall we say.

Joaquin tends to be a stickler when it comes to formality, even though he admits a lot of the rules he follows are just that—formality. He feels that once rules are abandoned, chaos will follow, and Joaquin is one of those who remember a world fraught with chaos—and he does not wish to see a world like that again. It is his long memory and vast experience in the field that gives him wherewithal to advise Valence, but it is that same memory that clouds his judgment against outsiders. He is skeptical of Ordessi and his attitude towards the Alks borders on outright loathing. Understandable, considering what the Alks did to the Razuli many years ago, but he refuses to believe they could ever change.

Your shirt is too big, your pants are too short, you thumb is on the wrong side of your hand (?!), your back is killing you from being hunched over in a tiny chair for days, but that’s okay. You’re finally figuring it out.

Front interviewing the elders to digging up old lore and fairy tales, you patiently tracked the thread of truth throughout the ages, and it all led you to here. The myth of the masked ones? Totally real. Why aren’t they here anymore? Well, you’re holding in your hand the journal of a wizard from centuries ago, and in it he describes how he sealed them all in boxes of iron. You can hardly wait to tell your elders and to write it down, so everyone can know.

Unfortunately you’re killed and the whole place is set on fire before you have the chance.

(as you can probably tell, the quality of these is getting pretty laughable, but finals week is upon me and I don’t have much time to draw for me at the moment 🙁 )

14 – Maximilian Mote

(Click for larger image!)

THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #13, Reine de Chance…

… MAXIMILIAN MOTE!

Maximilian, as he prefers to be called, was nearly a straight A student in high school and college, his GPA only hampered by his abysmal physical education performances.  His fanatical love for microbiology ostracized him from the rest of his peers, even those in his field of study.  When he finally pulled his head up from his microscope to look at the world around him he discovered that he was alone in every sense of the word.

Deciding that his intellect was envied by those around him, Maximilian Mote swore revenge for his exclusion from society.  Dr. Mote received a package one morning containing samples of water that was contaminated with an unknown material.  In his research, Maximilian cultivated a little known virus, the same virus that arrived on Earth with the Danaians.  Spooked by his lab assistant, Victoria Timothy, Maximilian dropped the viral culture, spilling it on himself.  In the commotion, Dr. Mote grabbed a lab bench for support putting his hand on the box of water samples.

With a surge of golden energy emanating from Maximilian’s hand the box exploded as a creature grew from within to gigantic size.  What was, moments before, a microscopic tardigrade had become an otherworldly, monstrous water bear that attacked and ate Ms. Timothy, with whom Dr. Mote harbored feelings.  In his rage, Dr. Mote’s hands began to glow and the magnified microscopic moiety returned to its normal, undetectable size.

Maximilian Mote is able to expand microscopic organic material to enormous proportions at will.  While he has tenuous control over these organisms they are largely feral and wreak massive amounts of damage.  In a league with the Wooden Wizard in terms of reality bending absurdity, Mote’s rampages have caused giant viruses and bacteriophages to invade towns and hordes of water bears to tear through a city.

Blaming the world for his loss, Dr. Mote began his reign of terror which has often brought him into conflict with super human beings.  He has an imagined arch nemesis in the Enforcer, who he sees as a jock unworthy of the technology at his disposal.  In addition he has become fixated with Ms. Mercury, who he sees as both a scientific wonder and a woman capable of understanding his intelligence.

Mote’s antics, and that of other powered megalomaniacs, were put on hold with all things extranormal with the appearance of…

13 – Reine de Chance

 THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #12, The Adventureteers…

… REINE DE CHANCE!

Renée Roue always wanted fame and fortune.  Trained in the criminal arts by her father, Renée was able to fend for herself when she ran away from home into the streets of Paris when she was an adolescent.  Described as a little “off” by those who knew her in the early days, Renée became renowned for her daredevil nature and willingness to attempt even the most foolhardy felonious feat.

As she grew up, Renée became more mentally unhinged and more willing to accept more extreme assignments.  It turned out that Renée had a knack for kidnapping and random acts of violence, though those were often self motivated and not commissioned.  Over time she built a criminal empire, where people feared for their safety and did not try to cross her, especially after seeing the fates of those who attempted betrayal.

The self proclaimed “Queen of Chance” gained notoriety after televising a game of Russian roulette played by a small group of wealthy hostages.  And herself, in full Marie Antoinette costume.  Easily bored, Renée found a new challenge in the rising superhuman population.  She staged elaborate games of chance, with property and lives often at stake, for various heroes and villains to participate.  Pursued by the Five Points of Freedom, the Adventureteers and many others, Reine de Chance remains free largely due to her insanity and the actions she is willing to perform and sacrifices she’s willing to make.

While, the Queen of Chance operates on a global scale of chaos, American heroes have their own villains to contend with such as the mayhem caused by…

12 – The Adventureteers

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #11, The Anonymous Avenger…

… the ADVENTURETEERS!

People around the globe had been, and still were being, transformed by the alien atmosphere-born virus identified by the Five Points of Freedom’s own Ms. Mercury.  While these changes were obvious in some, they remained dormant in many others, only becoming evident in their progeny.  There were a growing number of individuals born into Generation X who were more than human.

As these children aged, their extra-normal nature became evident, sometimes in kids as young as five or six years old.  Though from various ethnic, social and geographical locations, these children all developed the same set of abilities.  The children’s eyes shown with golden glows and were capable of seeing complete darkness.  The kids could levitate and fly through unseen propulsion.  They were strong, lifting several tons even at a young age, and tough, able to survive bullets, bombs and even drowning unharmed.

The public and world governments were concerned.  Some countries screened their children and gathered the empowered for study and detainment.  A group of children thus empowered, however, are not so easy to imprison.  The U.S. took a less draconian approach, though some in the government would have preferred otherwise.  Under the direction of the newly appointed Secretary of Extranormal Affairs, Senator Trent Day, the Gold Gladiator and founding member of the Five Points of Freedom, all children with powers, inborn or otherwise, were brought into the Constellations program where they would be mentored and tutored in the use of their powers by other heroes.

One group of powered youth, known in the media as the Adventureteers, gained fame when they saved billionaire philanthropist Aurum Silvers and his wife when his private plane was hit by an errant meteorite.  Silvers and his wife were moved by the children’s altruistic act, though the kids were in no actual danger due to their super human natures, and decided to fund a youth hero team that would operate outside of the government’s control, allowing them to work in areas without political motives.  Unfortunately, there were often political ramifications to their actions.

The Adventureteers were led by Blastblolt (centered) and included (clockwise from center) Princess Heartshine, Pterodactyl, Skullcrusher and Gold Star.  It should be noted that the children named themselves.

The global scope of the Adventureteers brought them and a variety of other super powered individuals into conflict with the psychotic…

#12 – Traveling Merchant

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

He always seems rather happy, which many find strange since he always has to carry around that giant backpack. He sells the usual small portable stuff, though the nine boxes tied to the outside of it are rather mysterious.

And he seems to have horrible luck, as the part he travels with has been singled out by a rather dangerous man who keeps attacking them for no apparent reason.

Really, you would think that if someone kept trying to kill you you’d be a bit less happy about it.

11 – The Anonymous Avenger

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

THE STORY STARTS HERE!

… continued from Character #10, The Wooden Wizard…

… the ANONYMOUS AVENGER!

Reginald Wright was once a standup police officer, with a clean image and the respect of the public.  That all changed when he discovered that his partner was not only a dirty cop, but a Murder Man working for the notorious Korvus Kain.  When Wright resisted recruitment attempts and stopped the Murder Man sent to assassinate him, he found that Kain could reach beyond simple murder when his career was killed with false accusations and planted evidence.  Now a security guard at a gymnasium, Wright has begun taking classes at the local community college, working toward a degree in electrical engineering.

Like many, Wright was an admirer of the Five Points of Freedom and their civic works.  He noticed a decrease in crime in the neighborhood that he lived when the team became publicly known.  Who wants to get caught by someone who can fly?  He also noticed the increase in criminal activity when the Five Points became more focused on grander, more surreal threats, like the Wooden Wizard.

After a particularly violent encounter with some Murder Men, Wright decided to take matters into his own hands.  Inspired by the Five Points and other heroic types, Wright fashioned a costume out of pieced he scavenged from the locker room used by a semi-professional wrestling league that performed at the gym he guarded after hours.  Protecting his self with a bulletproof vest and armed with a pair of “shocking gauntlets” that he built himself, each capable to incapacitate an enraged elephant, Wright took to the streets as the Anonymous Avenger to fight crime under the radar of most super powered heroes.

The Anonymous Avenger started a trend of vigilantism where civic minded, capable people taking on the criminal elements ignored by the heroes they idolized.  While all these heroes, super powered and not, were on the look out for their villainous counterparts, they should have been watching out for the children.  Particularly, children like…

#15 – Halfway Hal

In celebration of being halfway through the 30 Characters challenge, my submission is Halfway Hal.

Hal likes to think of himself as a superhero, in fact, he actually has the ability to create a hole into another dimension and reach through to another point in his vicinity. This allows him to reach through objects or grab things from high places without straining. Unfortunately, Hal can never put more than half his body through the hole at any one time, which limits him a bit when fighting the forces of evil.

There are no easy escapes when he is trapped by villains and the “punch a guy from behind” trick usually only works once before evil doers start looking for it. So for now he looks for the petty crooks that might be on the run from the cops, allowing him to shift his foot in front of them and trip them up.

Hal hopes to one day join a super team, but sits patiently by the phone waiting for them to call.

She is actually a character who I do not have much planned for yet. Just a few details: she’s lost an arm somewhere, she’s naive as a child but has the wisdom of the ages, she doesn’t pick a side, she was taken in by the Razuli (Star People), and she’s one of the true enigmas of this story. :B

#15 Joe The Barbarian

| November 15, 2011 | 1 Comment

Joe The Barbarian comes from the frozen northern wastelands of Taskala. He was born with eye of the tiger on the field of battle and is the proud son of the village chief-tan. Growing up in such a harsh and violent environment forced Joe to mature quickly.

By the age twelve he had already killed over a dozen men earning him the honor and the respect of his people who named him their greatest warrior. Joe led the raids that destroyed the dreaded southern cannibal hordes of Baboso. Soon after, he was overcome with the strong desire to travel. He roamed throughout the vast wastelands as a bandit, highwayman, mercenary, and pirate where he constantly encounters horrifying monsters, evil sorcerers, skanky wenches, and hot princesses. The heroic feats Joe performs throughout his epic adventures are motivated  by survival and personal gain, and sometimes the chicks.

#13 Tiger X

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

#13 Tiger X (superhero) Here’s another hackneyed use of an Internet name generator. Not bad, not bad at all. I have to admit that if a person takes the result of these generators, chops up the names/titles/ideas generated, and resort them into new combinations, then what you get out of it isn’t too bad. They are supposed to help spark the imagination; you just have to play with the results to get what you want.

I also played around with a generator that produced titles for adventure stories. So for my superhero, I have the following stories (to eventually write and draw):

* “Night of the Comet King”

*“Tiger X and the Puzzle of Lemuria”

* “Operation Minotaur”

* “Tiger X and the Vampires of Mars”

#15-Captain Obvious

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

#11: BETRIFFT VIERUNDVIERZIG

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

The subject’s full classification is “Betrifft Vierundvierzig” – translated from the German, the classification reads “Subject Forty-Four.”

The staff here, however, just calls…it…’Ziggy.’

It – Ziggy – is the end result of the Grey’s forty-fourth attempt to create a human-alien hybrid.  It stands approximately eight feet tall and is approximately five feet wide.  These numbers are approximates solely because It reacts enthusiastically to the presence of humans, which in turn makes it difficult to obtain precise measurements.

The subject is also covered with a thick fur, unlike anything else seen before.  During drops in temperature, the individual strands of fur increase in density – this effect has also been observed when the subject is in the presence of airborne agents which can damage soft tissue.

The individual strands have also hollowed themselves out when temperatures increase, or when the subject is submerged – this apparently adds buoyancy to the subject, allowing it to float.

In regards to subject demeanor, it has been previously mentioned that the subject becomes enthusiastic around the presence of people, to the degree that a number of staff treat the subject more as a pet than an alien.  It must also be noted, however, that in the presence of The Grey, the demeanor undergoes a severe change, to such a degree as to be considered barbaric.

The level of violence observed in the presence of The Grey, towards The Grey is astounding, and causes one to believe that it harbors great hatred towards those that actually breeded it.

Furthermore, it must also be noted that-

not now

-more study is-

Ziggy I said not now down boy

alright, Ziggy, yes, its playtime now

Day 8 – Crispin Teor

| November 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

Crispin is an extremely bitter person, but he’s very tight-lipped as to why. He’s openly spiteful about anything that bothers him, but when he’s asked personal questions, he’ll divert the questioner. It’s been assumed by the other ‘revolutionaries’ that Crispin is an orphan due to machinations of the Alk Empire and that is why he harbors a grudge against them. Especially its ruling body, Trident. It makes sense for the most part, which is why no one really bothers Crispin about it.

His default expression is sour and there are very few occasions where he’s been seen as anything but crotchety.

Good thing love conquers all.

Well, Casanova hopes it does.
