08 – Captain Arrow by Beausephus+Son
CHARACTER NAME: Â Captain Arrow
DATE OF CREATION: Summer 2011
CONCEPT: Â He shoots arrows at bad guys.
_________________________________
So when the mood strikes my son (and that is quite often) and he wants to make up “superguys”, “superdudes”, “supermans”… I pull out a bunch of templates I made for him and he picks out everything from the style of boots to the color scheme of the various costume options presented before him. Â I then draw quick sketch, and he edits, adds, etc… Â I then draw up the character and he hangs them in his room…if they meet his ultimate judgement. Â Then I make him come up with a story for each character.
CAPTAIN ARROW is the leader of a superhero team called The Amazing Justice Squad of Superheroes. Â “He shoots bad guys with arrows that he makes in his secret treehouse”. Â He has a partner who doesn’t have a name, but is “like Robin, but not a leader like Robin”.
CAPTAIN ARROW shows my son’s absolute and fervent devotion to any character who shoots arrows. Â He loves Hawkeye and Green Arrow, and even admits to liking Artemis from the Young Justice cartoon, but as he is quick to point out, “Robin is still better”.
I added some tweaks to this published version.  The scale armor up the left arm is new, but everything else is directly  from my son’s imagination.
Decided to mess around with some perspective and looser lineart/coloring on this one. It looks rushed, and it is rushed, but I like the look of it nonetheless.
Birgir is a holy warrior of the Avoran people, tasked with guarding the Blessed One on their missionary journey across the sea. While the picture above is meant to imply his largeness and power, he’s also a jovial and pleasant guy and quickly makes friends with the locals. He even wears the more colorful and climate appropriate local clothing, which the Elder of the missionary group refuses to do.
He’ll be showing up in my in-progress graphic novel A Jagged Road.
#5 Fatrat
This desert dweller doesn’t hesitate to investigate and pop his little nose into whatever situation jhe thinks will get him merchandise that he could sell Fatrat, a name he has given himself, is small but can carry double his weight if the motivation is enough.
He’s not a thief, though, just has a vauge sense of what’s his and what’s not, he’s known to kindly resell whatever he’s scavenged to the person he has scavenged from, or in his words, liberated them from the anchor of materialism.
Truly a rodent of the people.
Number 5: Shadow Walker
Full name: Craig Carter
Alias: Shadow Walker
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Allignment: Good
Race: White
Height: 5’9â€(human form), up to 1 mile (shadow forms)
Abilities: Can shift between three forms (human, half shadow, and full shadow).
In half shadow, Shadow Walker retains his physical form, but can alter his body and limbs (such as extending, enlarging, or transforming into blades) by turning portions of himself into shadows. This form also removes much of his nerve endings, making him less vulnerable to pain on his physical body, while his shadow portions cannot be damaged by any conventional means.
In full shadow, Carter becomes incorporeal, allowing him to extend his shadow across great distances, over buildings, and through water at virtually the speed of light. This form is reserved for travel, since he cannot interact with the physical world in this state. Furthermore, if he stays in the shadow world for too long, he will be attacked by shadow demons and various other creatures that call the shadow world home.
Appearance: human form- short blonde hair, green eyes, thin, somewhat lanky. Half shadow form- white robe with hood, exposed shadow portions around waist, knees, chest, hands, feet, and forearms. Full shadow form- incorporeal
Bio: Craig Carter was raised by a single father, and never thought anything special of himself. However, on his 13th birthday, his father revealed to him that his mother was actually a shadow demon who had tricked his father into sleeping with her. After a one night stand, she disappeared.
9 months later, the demon returned to tell Craig’s father of her deception and give him the baby, fearing that if she kept him in the shadow world, he would be hunted down by other beasts of the realm. Then she disappeared again, but this time, she never came back.
After that day, Craig started to feel himself becoming more and more disconnected with the world, even sometimes feeling that people around him didn’t see him altogether. One night, he was walking home when a car came careening past a turn and headed straight for him. Craig froze in a panic, but the car somehow went straight through him. He looked around at himself and found that somehow he had tapped into his shadow heritage and become completely connected to shadows.
From then on, Craig Carter decided to hone his abilities, vowing that someday he would use them to find his mother and discover the truth about his history.
#7 Regina Forrestor – Hunter
I hunt monsters. Not like one of those Bigfoot freaks, sitting out in the woods at night with their cameras and microphones. No I am not trying to prove that the things that go bump in the night are real. I know they’re real. I’m just trying to kill them.
It’s a family business. My father was the one who taught me, and his father taught him. Mother was really happy about it, but she knew that it was work that needed to be done.
He took me on his hunts, traveling into the woods around our home looking fairies and brownies. Now these aren’t the nice sparkly things you see in the movies. Try six inches of teeth and claws that can become invisible and have an insatiable hunger for blood. Yeah you wouldn’t clap to keep one of these little shits alive. Dad died when a swamp ape broke free of a snare and snapped his neck, very messy. I couldn’t just stop. It would have been an insult to his memory.
So I kept at it. When I lost a hand to frostbite hunting a yeti, I still tracked it back to its lair and killed it with an icicle. A Will o’the Wisp took my eye in Ireland, and I was on the trail of a werewolf in Germany two days later.
This isn’t a pretty job. This isn’t a nice job. But every day, I help somebody and take one more monster out of the world. From where I’m standing, that’s better than most people.
#3 Aki N’Vu, Brave SOL Captain
#4 Earl, the Cactus
Description
This character is a real character. He is actually alive. He’s my cactus that I’ve had for over 6 years.
I’ve moved 14 times in my life. This cactus is a real world representation of my need to have at least one thing around that doesn’t change. I gave my cactus a name when someone once asked me why I have a cactus in my room. I said, “Oh that’s Earl.” and that was that.
The word balloons are actual things Earl has said over the years. I’m just glad he can’t tell my mother everything I’ve actually done in my room……heh.
#8 cover charge
with his lame lighting powers and a lame superhero name, arron alderman set forth to leave his slacker lifestyle for one of superheroic apptitude. unfortunately he’s doing it his way
#7 – Nox

#3 Goose Bumpers
Description
These characters came from my weird need to be a corny, cheezy boyfriend every minute of the day.
My GF was cold one early morning. She gets goose bumps on her skin very easily. SO in my desire to be a cute BF, I said, “Hey there Goose Bumper!” Her face lit up and she said, “Dude, you should totally do a character based on that for your challenge!” Easy for her too say…
One variation almost had these geese wearing front and rear bumpers (hanging from suspenders).. whew that was a close one!
Character #6: Scorpion-dude
I don’t know why, but at the last second I decided to give this guy a scorpion tail. Yep. You can check http://www.masterwhale.com for more info on me.
Character #5: Giant
I like this one quite a bit, I think I’m going to start adding backgrounds to a few more of my posts, just for some extra flavor.
#7 “Control Freak” Charlie Windinsky
Universe/Storyline: The Band
Universe details: In the isolated city of Crescent where these characters live, superpowers spring from close encounters with death. Only people born in the city can gain these powers, and since this is a relatively new settlement, the first generation of people born there are just starting to show signs of super-fication. This means mostly kids and teens. Of the teens, Camille, Max, Amelia, Walter, and Rin decide to team up and form a band. They take it upon themselves to help other kids who are just getting powers/dealing with death. Eventually, when The Band realizes that everyone deserves to be informed about the city’s unique predicament, they try to reach every kid in the city at once by putting on a live concert.
Height: 4’ 10â€
Body Type: Prepubescent child.
Hair: Sandy blonde and shaggy. It was a bowl cut once, but it’s grown out since then and obviously hasn’t been well cared for.
Eyes: Blue
Race: White
Age: 11
Attire: Whatever dirty, torn rags he can scrounge up. He’s been wearing the same clothes for many years so they’re often too small for him or worn out.
Superpowers: Mind Blank, Conscious (primary)- By his command, CF can empty the mind of anyone within his gaze. The effect can be temporary, as in when he only empties the conscious mind, knocking his victim out. But, he can also blank memories and even the parts of the brain that control bodily function, effectively killing his victim.
Possession, Conscious (secondary)- After a victim has been mentally blanked, a space is left for CF to transfer his mind into theirs and inhabit/control their body. While possessing someone, CF has very little conscious control over his own body; he is basically alive but behaves like a mindless zombie, sitting and staring into space. Without a guardian to watch over and feed his vacant body, he would certainly die. However, CF can return his mind to his own body at any time in case it needs to be taken care of. There is a chance that his host will regain consciousness while he is outside their body. CF takes with him all of the memories he generated when inside a host body, leaving the host confused if they wake up.
Personality: CF relies almost completely on instinct and undeveloped emotions in his use of power. He has essentially raised himself during the years since he accidentally killed his insane mother in self-defense. Occasionally Rin visits him and brings him food and other necessities. She harbors ill will toward him because she doesn’t know the exact circumstances of what happened between him and her mother. Charlie doesn’t take much comfort from her courtesy visits; instead he seeks a replacement for his weak and pitiful body in order to defend himself against the harsh world.
Power Sources/Backstory:
a.     Memory Erasure (proximity, precision, at will, not permanent)- He killed his mother accidentally when she came after him with a pair of garden shears.
b.     Mental Transplantation- In the same moment he kills his mother, he takes the shears and gets power #2.
Theme Song: Master of Puppets- Metallica
#8 The dog hating Neighbor
I did this character based on a neighbor who gave my dog the look of all looks for standing on his lawn. Â Lighting up Mr. neighbor. Although this was drawn at the end of Sept it was drawn specifically for this challenge.
#6 Corporate Dodo
I really have no idea where this came from. I’ve got nothing else to say about it.
#8 Olga “Vodka” Romonova
Born in Russia and was forced to leave to America under unknown circumstances, and became an assassin for the Russian mafia for a short while, but was arrested and sent to jail. She had two opinions, continue in a life of killing people for profit or pursue a life as a operative. Of course she choose the later. Able to use her skills with all forms of weapons, hand to hand combat, and quick reflexes, she now works for The Cero(Central Emergency Readiness Organization) Agency, A top secret government agency created for the protection of the free world.
Height: 5’8 Weight:198 lbs. Age: 27
Personality:
Confident, sometimes hides her emotions, doesn’t take no lick from anyone.
Character #4: Man with Goggles
Well, sometimes I just feel like drawing a pair of goggles. Prior to drawing this guy, I sort of envisioned an airplane pilot or something. I planned to give him a bomber hat but then I forgot. Check out my site! http://www.masterwhale.comÂ
Day 7: Panty Oni
Panty Oni
Panty Oni is a Japanese demon that is found in peoples homes stealing and sniffing panties. He is very alusive, a Panty Oni is never seen anywhere else except for when he is caught sniffing panties. It is not known what his normal expression looks like for he is always surprised when he is caught. It is rumored that he has no front and that his natural stance is stuck in squat position looking back. To prevent a Panty Oni from stealing your underwear, you are required to hang an old woman’s panties from your tree to ward him away.
Got kinda lazy this time around…we will see what tomorrow brings.
#5 Kelly Fry
Kelly is a flight attendant. Somehow her airline is cool enough that she can look the way she does and still work for them. I drew this one on the airplane from Florida to Massachusetts.
#2 Bee Snitches
Description
This character came out of my frustration over not being able to use swear words on my Facebook page.
I want to maintain a professional impression on my Facebook but sometimes I just want to cut loose and use a cuss word or two. Of course, my brain is tuned to catching character ideas anytime they appear and this one was too fun to let go…can you guess which word I’m censoring here?
My Bee Snitch has an intense look of retribution in his eye, so watch out and don’t get stung!
#4 Mr. Dennis
Mr. Dennis is a sex ed teacher. I am not sure if he teaches middle school or high school. Either way, this drawing even creeps me out a bit, and I’m a weirdo.
#7 Hemply Shroom
Hemply Shroom is left of liberal. He has a penchant for tie-dyes, crystals, veganism, free love, pot, shrooms, and LSD. His oneness with nature and anything that is ‘all-natural’ borders on psycho. Hemply loves flora and fauna so much that he wishes that humans would be wiped out once and for all so they’d stop killing all the plants and animals. He’s so extreme that he believes tree hugging is mere foreplay, getting to first base if you will . If Hemply had it his way he’d be rounding third and sliding into home plate head first, if you know what I mean.
Besides dry humping trees, Hemply’s favorite thing to do is to constantly push his extremist vegan views on others. His second favorite thing to do is organize drum circles. His third favorite thing to do is play his guitar. Which he does very badly.
His aversion to both soap and shoes has earned him the title “Dirtiest Hippie of the Year” for the last six years running.
Hemply’s father a Colonel in the U.S. Army, considers his son to be “The biggest disappointment in my life.”
#7 Fuku
Fuku
Age: 19
Place of Origin: Port Latiga
Height: 5′ 4″
Eye color: Green
Fuku has does not know who she really is, just who she will become “the most famous pirate girl in all the 10 seas!’
Fuku woke up one morning on the shore of port Latiga, she was a little girl then, must have been 8 or 9. She was
found by a lady peasant who used to be a warrior for the empire. She taught Fuku how to defend her self from the
evil that consumed the port, but after the lady died of a strange illness called “dying phoenix” where you spontaneously
combust in flames, Fuku could only survive by stealing and doing mercenary jobs, although at first she was not taken seriously.
Fuku’s character is playful, but determined. She is girly but dont let that fool you, her strength sneaks up on you if you
under estimate her. She hates mermaids because they gave her “mother figure” the “dying phoenix” illness. She loves shinny coins
so much, she has started her own private collection in a small Island south west of port Latiga. She is fierce, cute, and ready
to make her way into “the queen of the 10 seas”
#7
Just time for a quick sketch this evening. No name yet for this guy, but he’s the best imaginary friend a gal could have. Â He can change his shape so sometimes he’s large enough to ride and sometimes small enough to fit in your pocket, but he’s always there when you need him.
#7 The Golden Unicorn
The product of the union of a human female and a male unicorn (unicorns are attracted to human virgins after all), Bruce Monocerus was born with magic powers and a chimera body.
Fierce and solitary, Bruce is also selfless and just, traits he acquired through his unicorn heritage. These traits combined with his enhanced physical abilities made Bruce a natural superhero. Adopting the guise of The Golden Unicorn, he joined the Squardonnaires.
Bruce’s golden horn gives him the ability to neutralize poison and absorb great impacts. He also has gay-dar.
Day #6- Fat Wurm
This guy is a big, fat worm monster that loves to eat toes and fingers. (the flagella-like ridges on his sides look just like human toes, complete with toenails.)
He hides under beds, rocks, and mattresses waiting for a tasty morsel.
#8 Sweets
Meet Sweets! He is a parasaurolophus with a wicked sweet tooth. He always wanted to be a mascot for a candy company.
#30Characters Chatter…
