#7 – The Mangled Mallow

On the run after barely saving himself from a boiling cup of Hot Chocolate at a suburban Christmas Party, Marsh looks for a way to avenge his deformity.

His contempt for humanity increases each year as the weather gets cold and he sees bags of his brothers and sisters melted into oblivion to make sweet treats.

While there isn’t much the Mangled Mallow can do to harm humanity, he focuses all of his mental energy on hoping the main villains will develop diabetes. That is the best revenge he can come up with at this time.

As part of the gang called the Holiday Hellions, he typically serves the very important role of decoy.

#7 Twisted Sistah

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

The next character in my spoof comic, Twisted Sistah:

Moesha Mack was the high school hook-up for the hottest new drugs on the street. Sister to a feared gang leader in Southern California, Moesha seemed untouchable. Dealing to children, supplying to parents and ruining families, Moesha cared about no one but herself and about making the next big sale.  It seemed the joke was finally on her when she tried a few new experimental drugs in a singular cocktail. While on her high, she felt a strong craving for toast and upon trying to plug her toaster into the wall, she stumbled, tripped and dropped it into a full sink of water which she grabbed to sustain herself. Electricity shot throughout her body in incredible force, but somehow, the drugs slowed her heart rate in a way that helped her to survive. Not only that, it transformed Moesha into a storm waiting to happen. Her body now has the power to give off heat or coolness into the atmosphere around her. By detecting the temperature of the air around her, Moesha only needs to give off an opposing temperature and the struggle of air pressure around her will cause the opposing air masses to spin in fury for dominance. Thus, this barometric babe can cause extreme wind damage and even sizable cyclones to form around her. With practice, she has learned to focus and direct these winds, and has decided to turn over a new leaf.

#7 Batteri

Though they might look like one of those cheap plastic toys, beware.

They’re actually living magnetic batteries that can hold more than enough electricity to power a car.

It’s not very common to find this species around urban areas. AI.ma.ROBO had been thinking about capturing the rare diamonds they are to sell as pets but quit once they found out how much damage its antennae could do.

Others have captured them just to use as tasers, though soon they find out they could kill people with them.

They have power plugs for legs so it’s not going to be hard for them to snack on electricity. They consume so much energy that the houses they break into find themselves in huge debt.

So far, they are considered either a great solution to the Energy Crisis or a horrible, horrible pest to cross paths with.

“Strong, fast, indestructible . . . yeah, I’m all of those things. I know my name doesn’t really reflect these qualities, but I didn’t get to choose mine. I was seen sprinting through the streets a few times, and next thing you know, some newspaper editor thought I looked elegant. He’ll know my displeasure soon; I have his car.”

JennyJenny dropped out of college to enter broadcast school. Now she works at a small public radio station in San Francisco were she slings records and bikes to work. “The hills are murder, but I get to listen to music all day. It’s a fair trade.”  Although Jenny doesn’t feel the staccato “tick-tick-tick” of motherhood, she still wouldn’t mind getting married, though she would need a boy friend first.

#4 The Green Monks

| November 7, 2011 | 4 Comments

There is only one religion of the beings of Charn, and the Green Monks are the preachers of Aresium. The holy word of Aresium speaks of the Architect, or creator of all known beings. The Monks are a vast organization with tendrils spread throughout most of the known galaxy, with various operatives dedicated to specific goals of the Monks and the Pillars. The Pillars guide the Monks in the desires of the Majestrix. Secretly the role of of the Green Monks has been to find evidence of the creator in all beings which thus far has been the case, but a new initiative has been put forth by the Majestrix herself since the conquering of a new world on the outskirts of the Dominion. A world inhabited by a race of prognosticators…

#2 Tech Knight

| November 7, 2011 | 1 Comment

Man, I’ve already fallen way behind! Let’s play catch up, shall we?

Tech Knight:

Cade Carter was the kind of student that every teacher despises: brilliant, but lazy. Able to do the very least amount of work and achieve above average grades, Cade was content to do just that throughout his collegiate career rather than pushing himself to be exceptional.

All that changed when, during an especially riveting sociology lecture through which Cade was trying desperately to sleep, a warrior clad in an advanced suit of armor crashed through the classroom wall, gunning only for Carter. Narrowly escaping, Cade finds himself trapped in the building’s labyrinthine basement, his attacker rapidly approaching. Just as he is discovered, Cade very conveniently finds a silver and black broadsword of strange and ornate design. Upon grasping it in a desperate attempt at defense, Cade is enveloped in silver and black armor and helmet, a hybrid of ancient and futuristic design. Finding himself possessed of amazing new abilities, Cade quickly disposes of his attacker, rushing back to the safety of his dorm without being seen before the sword disappears in a brilliant flash of light.

Over the next few months Cade finds that, whenever danger arises the sword seems to miraculously appear nearby. Cade uses it to defend against the increasingly strange occurrences and attacks on campus, learning in the course that the sword and armor can only be used by him.

In time Cade is contacted by a satellite orbiting the earth, possessing the simulated intelligence of his distant descendent, a brilliant scientist who, along with a team, created five weapons of incredible power. It soon became clear, however, that the corporation employing them was not an organization that should possess such artifacts. To safeguard them, the weapons were keyed to respond only to the scientists’ genetic codes. During a raid on their facilities, Cade’s descendent, in a desperate move, hid the weapons in the past, send along a digitized version of himself to watch over them.

Cade is now tasked with a vital mission: find the other weapons and guard them, before the Darelight Corporation, traveled back in time, can acquire them. His new mission, along with a glimpse at what his wasted potential can actually achieve in his accomplished descendent, Cade finds a new motivation and works to safeguard the past from the mistakes of the future.

Appearance: Tech Knight appears to be an armored knight of old (weird Mohawk helmet and all), but his adornments are distinctively futuristic, glowing with white inlays. He has a short, tattered cape flowing behind him, seemingly made of white energy.

Weapons and Paraphernalia: Tech Knight’s only weapon is his futuristic broadsword which, when held by him, covers his body in a nanotech armor.

Powers and Abilities: The full powers of Tech Knight’s sword have yet to be discovered, but so far it seems to be able to slice through any material, move with incredible speed and accuracy and project energy for a variety of effects, including slashing energy waves and continued segmentation of sliced objects.

His armor grants Cade superhuman strength, speed and protection from injury. Rocket bursts from his boots allow for swift dashes across the ground, as well as enabling him to leap more than once in mid-air. His helmet also feeds him constant intuitive updates to his surroundings, approximating a sort of psychic HUD.

#5 Maxwell Price Esq.

| November 7, 2011 | 2 Comments

Maxwell Price Esq. , turn of the century big game hunter extraordinaire.  He had bagged just about everything in the wild kingdom but had a prize beast in his eye.  The dreaded Albino Rhino.  While pursuing its trail through the Serengeti his biplane got caught up in a freak storm and got dashed to bits on landscape below.  Maxwell barely escaped with his life and worst of all, his precious rifle was mangled beyond repair. Luckily his wilderness training more than made up for it.  Over the months he’s fashioned an axe head for his defunct rifle and has been making repairs to his suit with what he can manage to catch and skin. It’s up to him to maintain proper personal civility until he can make it back home.

Report from General Rudolph Adams, Project: Chimera

April 20, 2011.  At 1300 today, Subject 009 lost control of his abilities and killed three of the soldiers under my command.  In attempting to apprehend him, 009 devastated the facility and broke free, fleeing to the downtown Denver area where he went underground.  Our mission here has been compromised and, as per orders, the entire complex has been destroyed and all those working here have been terminated.

May 9, 2011.  Report has come in indicating the Subject 009 has fallen in with our old friend Cross.  Seems he’s has a change of heart and has set out to liberate as many of our test subjects as he can.  All agents are to be on high alert; we cannot afford another Denver incident.

Contrail - The Midnight Crusader

First sighting: Three Years Ago

Alias: The Midnight Crusader, Guardian of the Sword

Identity: Secret – Amir Hafiz Saifullah

Weapons: Retractable plasma whips which could transform into a lightsword on each hand

Skills: Trained in multiple martial arts and swordsmanship, mastery of detective and scientific skills, escape artistry

The House of Saifullah has existed for many generations. Some say they’ve been around since the dawn of time. They ruled the Kingdom of Ebony Sand in relative peace and prosperity, despite the “Sword of God” name. Even their relations with the US and Israel are less tenacious than their other Middle Eastern counterparts.

The current ruler of the Kingdom of Ebony Sand is King Hadir Saifullah. His son Amir and his daughters Suha and Uzma are his pride and joy. Hadir’s brother, Wafi, serves as the ruler of the military. When Amir turned 18, he asked his father if he could forsake his princely duties and see the world, which he allows.

Amir brings his wife Jamila with him to America where they settle and make their home in the northwestern city of Diode Falls.
Diode Falls is home to many businesses, including Tenstone Industries, a multinational conglomerate founded and owned by the Salifullah family. Amir became the company’s operator and owner. He is one of the largest employers of the city and the biggest philanthropist in the world, giving away $5 billion of his own personal fortune to individuals, charities, and other businesses in the country.

Rumor of a hooded warrior protecting the nightly streets from dangerous criminals have emerged over the past three years. This midnight crusader, Contrail, has become a beacon of light in this dark city. He has taken out many dangerous criminals and has become a target of many of the criminal syndicates that made Diode Falls their homebase as well.

Amir has taken his role as a hero to its zenith and relishes the role. However, when a family tragedy brings him back home, will he leave the cloak of Contrail behind and return to his princely duties?

#7 – Mammon – Legendary Power

| November 7, 2011 | 1 Comment

Mammon

Name: Lawrence Simmons
Other Aliases: Greed, Hunger, Avarice, Great Old Vice, Scourge of Babylon, and Famine
Related to: Other Aspects, Death, Destruction, Gaia, Chaos
Powers Consumed: Greed: 540 BC, Beauty: 1204 AD
Marital Status: Divorced, Tyche – Lesser Power associated with Fortune

Height: 6 feet 0 inches
Weight: 150 pounds
Hair: Black
Eyes: Black
Distinguishing features: Gaunt, just shy of appearing starved or horrifically obese and appearing barely able to move.

Curses: People who interact with him frequently develop greed or hunger issues, too much interaction eventually causes madness and death.

Curses: Love of the finest things in life or a complete disgust with them. As likely to be found in a $5000 a week hotel as in an alley in a major metropolis. Both extremes are temporary.

History

Mammon began his life as a swirling energy bound to the lifeforce of Gaia. After a time he manifested and lived among humanity once their quest for understanding made them develop what would one day be known as the gods. Disguising themselves among men, the Aspects gathered energy from their relationships with humanity.

Mammon’s early interactions caused strife and discord so he learned to stay with humans for only a while and then keep moving. This became his lifestyle throughout the millennia. Whenever mankind created cities or civilization, Mammon was one step behind them making sure their need for things never faded.

But just as many civilizations prospered from his appearance, they would often fall just as quickly if they could not temper their greed or avarice. In Mammon’s mind, the most terrible of the great cities lost was Babylon. Though he was not personally responsible, one of the other Great Powers worshiped during that time was a friend and ally and her madness caused the great city’s downfall.

Today

Mammon is considered to be one of the legendary powers of Old Earth. He currently resides in the body of a glutton named Lawrence Simmons. Mammon will normally disguise his appearance from other powers in order to maintain his anonymity. He will do his best to maintain his human host shell and a shell can live for as long as he remembers to treat it well or it dies due to circumstances outside of his control.

While greed in the human species has made him, potentially, one of the most powerful of the Modern Powers, he is disgusted with the complete and wholesale greed the human race is current exercising. Adding insult to injury as the power of Greed continues to grow in the human population, the price on his head continues to grow as the impending Aspect War causes the great powers to begin to ally and chose sides.

Having nearly been killed nearly sixty years ago and losing his memoriesduring the last Aspect War, which was disguised as World War II, he wandered the America West during the early 1950’s and met his former wife Tyche during that time. Since he was not aware of his powers, it was one of the longest periods he spent as a mortal being. Strangely enough, he is nostalgic of that period of his very long life and prefers to avoid interacting with any of the great powers, or utilizing his considerable abilities if he can help it.

Powers and Abilities

Mammon’s physical appearance belies his body’s vast spiritual energies. As such he is possessed of superhuman strength and physical endurance, no matter how fat or thin his human shell appears to be. Possessing the strength of ten men, he is a capable combatant against even the most formidable of human beings. Against Powers whose specialties are physical confrontation such as War, he would prefer to not engage in combat. Their centuries of direct warfare give them an advantage even his great age and experience cannot offset. But he has other abilities that aid him against the other Powers and that is the reason most are loath to confront him.

As a Great Old One, Mammon’s powers are both vast and subtle. His very presence can inspire humans to great feats of generosity or parsimony. He has the power to influence the outcome of supposedly random events, and can completely prevent things that are supposed to happen from ever taking place. If confronted by a firearm for example, it will simply appear to jam or misfire; one of the reasons many of the Great Old Ones still use hand to hand weaponry to resolve their issues.

To touch Mammon is to know the immediate horror of your greatest need, hunger, lust, or greed and to be completely overcome by it. Few beings, even the Great Powers can withstand this because Mammon has over the millennia consumed the lesser Powers of Greed and Beauty and adding them to his powers. Other Aspects now seek Mammon’s powers and his life because of the incredible lifeforce associated with his Aspect in the modern world.

#7 Wom-Bat and Flittermouse

| November 7, 2011 | 6 Comments

The dominant theory regarding the Wom-Bat, as she came to be called-  from Woman-Bat- is that she is a human that somehow bonded with the alien, perhaps before birth, and the alien assumed control of  many of her vital functions at that time, and began the physical warping of her form.

A newer theory has been gaining traction however, which is that she is in fact an altered earth bat that the alien bonded with, whose DNA has been re-arranged by the alien to trigger the formation of a more humanoid body.

01 – Catches-the-Moon

| November 7, 2011 | 2 Comments

Catches-the-Moon is a folkhero of the Great Auks – as the first of her kind she came into the world devoid of food and so her people starved.  Through trickery, she got the moon to send his children to the seas, where they became fishes which Catches and her people could feed on forever.  Catches-the-Moon eventually died at a great old age and became a sometihng akin to a guardian spirit or a minor Goddess to her people.

Forever however, was of course a finite thing - the Great Auks of course became extinct and now Catches-the-Moon is a Goddess of a species utterly vanished from the world.  Not just no longer believed in, but not known by a single being in the world.  She drifts through the seas aimlessly for the rest of time, with no people and no purpose.

A slighty delayed first piece, a holiday to Spain prevented me from getting much done, although I did spend the plane journey coming up with a few characters ready to illustrate.  Hopefully I’ll manage to do 2 characters a day enough to catch up.

#7 – Dante

| November 7, 2011 | 0 Comments

Alex Feldstein, stage name Dante, 27, Jewish-American. The acting ringleader of the Deep Mountain Sideshow of the Mystic &Macabre. This is a bit of a misnomer, though, as ringleader is only a part he plays in the show. He’s not the actual leader of the circus, and in fact is not much of a leader. A chubby drama kid from Wisconsin, Dante has a very big personality and craves the spotlight, but he’s not very good at making decisions and doesn’t want to carry the fate of others on his shoulders. Which is a shame, as when the circus matriarch dies under mysterious circumstances, it becomes his responsibility to step up.
