#4 SKELETONIC

| November 5, 2011 | 1 Comment

Not sure where in my head this came from but it just started evolving and evolving till it got here. HA! I wanted to create a Skeleton Based bad guy that could look like he belonged in our Z-Girl and the 4 Tigers comic book universe. I wanted him to be a fully mobile character but not just a skeleton walking around. So by making his liquid body case transparent we get to see the skeleton clearly. Yet he has weight and substance making him more threatening, but without muscle mass that would obviously cover the skeleton.

3 & 4- Familiars.

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

These two are both familiars. They are typically made out of a few items that are close to the person they are for, and combine to a form that traps a soul. They typically last until one of the items decays enough that they lose stability, but in recent times the ethical implications of trapping a soul for what could potentially be an eternity has led to ‘timers’ being produced that degrade after a set time and free the soul back to where it came from. They are also commonly made out of a special dust, whose properties allow the creatures to move around easily and fade in and out of sight.

The first creature is the work of a student- it’s made of items that no experienced familiar crafter would want to use. A simple and common mistake is using something that makes sound as it’s main function (in this case an ipod) leads to a noisy familiar. It is also made from a teddy, which would be very attached to it’s owner.  This and the backlit screen means that the owner of this familiar wouldn’t be getting a lot of sleep.

The second is the work of a much more advanced crafter- it retains a far more solid form and has taken on a shape of it’s own despite still being mostly made of the dust (a feature more commonly found in ‘strong’ souls). It was made of a bird’s skull, an old umbrella and a broken string of beads, the latter of which floats behind it as a tail of sorts. Despite having legs, the creature is more likely to float than trot.

#4 The Wilkie

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

This is character number four of the 30 character challenge, Wilkie. Or, rather, she’s a Wilkie.

Wilkies are a type of fae I’ve sort of invented myself. They are miserable, horrifying faeries that are nearly impossible to avoid. Despite their look, they are not spirits nor are they undead. Rather, they are the embodiment of a persons’ regrets and shame. Once materialized, they savagely consume said person. This is just a portrait of a Wilkie which materialized from a female, as there are also male Wilkies.

#4 – Reaver

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Byron Snow was not happy.

He was far from it, actually.

You would think that someone who spends his life sleeping, partying and indulging in any excess his mind could think of in equal ways, a man who would never have to worry about money for as long as he lived, would not have to deal with such things as unhappiness.

Yet he did.

He did because the reason for his unhappiness relentlessly followed him wherever he went. It stared at him at any club he went. It brought him his supper, he could see them even from his penthouse apartment, far above the city, aimlessly loitering like the mindless cattle they all were.

Humans were his problem.

Humans were the reason of his unhappiness.

300 years ago, back when he was “born” into his new life, he and his kind would have no issue with rampaging through villages burning everything in sight, openly feeding under the moonlight, enjoying from the warm sustenance as well as from the fear saturating the atmosphere. But those halcyon days were long gone. Quietly bowing their heads and blending in with the meat was now the name of the game. Both The Council and The Covenant had agreed to this. In this new era of enlightenment and widespread information, acting in such an open manner would only invite more attention than the one they already got from The Huntsmen, and that was more than enough attention already.

So they blended in.

Most of them finally made use of their vast fortunes, amassed through centuries of never needing a single dime, spending it in every possible thing they could conceive off in order to chase boredom and hunger away.

Reaving was unanimously outlawed by The Council, the decision enforced by The Covenant. Anyone found reaving, no matter how careful or privately they did so, would be executed on the spot. No exceptions.

And so, Byron Snow hid. And lived. And was unhappy.

He was unhappy while a once proud and mighty race cowered under the numerical superiority of the meat. While their legend was forgotten, the terror they once instilled in the hearts of men and children alike lost to the passage of time. He saw as the meat made fools out of them, turning them into parodies of their former selves, little more than fodder for the romantic delusions of teen-aged girls, spinsters and unsatisfied housewives.

And the worst part was that every day, every month, every year he kept on feeding but not nurturing himself, he cared a little less about all of those things that should have continued to fuel his righteous indignation. He was growing fat and complacent.

He had to do something about it.

The first night he went out there was yet to be a costume. He had honestly convinced himself it would be a one time thing. Something to sate his thirst and be done with it. He knew it had to be someone who wouldn’t be missed. Someone you’d already expect to found splattered across the walls and floor of a dirty alley. When he heard the woman scream, he knew that was it. Even as weakened as it was, his body did most of the work for him without his even realizing.

The woman in itself was of little interest. Who cared what had happened to her? She was nothing but an enabler. By being the victim, she allowed him to come at him in any way he damn pleased. He was the real star of the show.

His original thought had been to just take things slow and enjoy it as much as possible in order to get the most out of it, considering this was gonna be a one-time thing. Even when the first warm jet started gushing, he innocently still believed this. But it had been so long since he had last reaved. The sensation, the rush, the excitement, the frenzy.

It completely took over him. How could they have stopped doing this?

How could they keep denying themselves something that was so unequivocally theirs?

It was wrong in so many fundamental levels. He knew it all the way inside of him, as he felt his body getting stronger, already demanding more sustenance.

He would need to disguise himself. No need to attract the attention of The Covenant. And already the humans had this long standing tradition of dressing in gaudy outfits and beating the living hell out of each other. And certainly no one would miss a few dead robbers or rapists. Nor the police would dig to deep when they found their broken, maimed and dry remains. They simply had it coming.

Byron Snow smiled.

He was happy for the first time in a long time. Happy that he had finally found a way of being himself once again out in the open, were his kind truly belonged.

Out there in the night.

#5: Keith W. Cunningham vs Broccoli

| November 5, 2011 | 1 Comment

Keith W. Cunningham never liked broccoli. Hates the stuff. Now, in his old age, he is starting to feel his mortality. Wanting to be around a while for his grandchildren, he decides he must eat broccoli. This is easier said than done. He just can’t seem to get a bite into his mouth. Every day, he puts his broccoli on a plate, stares at it, stabs it with his fork, holds it up to his mouth, experiences an incredible wave of nausea, puts the broccoli down, and tries again tomorrow.

#4 Lauren Bishop – Housewife

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Probably the most annoying thing about my husband’s work is the stains he brings home. They’re awful. Every night he goes out and prowls through the dark alleyways, hunting down evil with fighting prowess and finely honed deductive skills, but for some reason he can’t seem to stop himself from stepping in every pool of filth and slime on the streets.

And the blood, don’t get me started on the blood. It gets everywhere, into every single seam, and no detergent can take that out. Believe me, I’ve tried. But I’ll let you in on my little secret. Add a half-cup of salt to the wash. I don’t know how it works but it does. Busts those bloodstains right out. It also makes sure the colors don’t wash, which I think is really important. After all, nobody would be terrified of the Dingy Black Knight.

There are worse things than the blood though. Because he punches those crooks really hard sometimes other things get stuck on the clothes too. I’ve found so many teeth that if the Tooth Fairy were real, then I could buy a Hawaiian beach house with the money I make trading them in.

Did you know that you can machine-wash Kevlar? It has to be specially treated with solvents and than scrubbed by hand. And it’s not like I can send it out to be serviced. I’m sure that’d raise some questions at the cleaners. It takes a lot of elbow grease let me tell you. I have forearms like a longshoreman. And what it does to my skin? Forget about it. The girls down at the beauty shop think that I have the worst case eczema. It’s so embarrassing that I’ve started wearing gloves out and about just to avoid the stares.

I knew that when I married a super-hero, I’d be taking my life into my hands. The city is full of criminals and freaks that would love nothing more that to use me against him, but I never thought that I would be more intimidated by an overflowing hamper of sweaty uniforms than of being dangled over a tank of radioactive piranhas.

#4 – Keitos the Ekros

| November 5, 2011 | 6 Comments

Keitos belongs to a race of avianesque beings called Ekros. The Ekros live in elaborate cities in the skies of their home planet, but have completely devastated and drained the surface world. A thick cloud of pollution, grime, and noxious gas serves as a barrier between the beautiful floating cities and the barren landscape. The Ekros have taken to scouring other worlds for resources to help a people in crisis.

Keitos himself is a biowarrior, a fighter who utilizes both their extensive medical knowledge and the unique power of biological weapons. Since the Ekros are an extremely technically advanced society, Keitos never has any trouble finding the right supplies he needs. He’s served in many battles, acting as both a field doctor and an air soldier. He’s lost many friends (and rivals) as the armies of the Ekros conquered enemy worlds. He takes everything he does very seriously – there’s hardly any joking with this veteran.

Still, he merely holds a heavy heart, and has a passion for great works of art that is unmatched. Behind his cold, militarian exterior hides a man who can find beauty in anything, and appreciate it deeply and sincerely. One might suspect it’s the only thing keeping him sane.

#4 – Sabille

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Sabille is the fairy guardian of Menesia, Empress of Akaya.  Menesia is the daughter (and only child) of Belatee, the Goddess of Fate, so the fairy chosen to be her closest companion and protector had to be very special.  Although Sabby, as she’s known to her friends, isn’t the oldest or most powerful fairy (she’s midrange in both aspects being just under the fifteen hundred year age mark), she’s one of the most clever.

Not just wise or intelligent, Sabille has a quick, clever mind that allows her to plan ahead for almost every possible situation, so the likelihood of her ward even getting into trouble is slim and her being in some trouble that Sabille can’t get her out of quickly is practically impossible.

She’s also witty and funny, as well as exceptionally brave.  Her biggest problem is that she knows she’s clever and can be arrogant at times.  Being outwitted is one of the most humiliating things that can happen to her and whenever Belatee feels Sabby is getting too arrogant and egotistical she makes sure to send someone to put Sabby back in her place.

Character 05 – Castell

Lineart-only entry today, I’m due at my parents’ house soon. This is Castell, a character I’ve developed for the webcomic I’m creating, “Demonguard”. Going into his history and backstory would take ages, but he’s a character I’ve really enjoyed developing. Let’s leave it at that ;D

#3 – Haruto

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Haruto is one of the magical creatures that inhabit Lalahlahki, the Celestial Kingdom of the Princess of the Sun, Heir to the Throne of Heaven.  Evil is forbidden to enter the kingdom and it most worlds it is known as a place of great healing and purity, a Garden of Eden without the snake.  Haruto is the youngest of the Celestial Sentinels, and although most of the Sentinels are ancient, wise, and kind they are also kind of boring.  He has bigger dreams.

Time has no meaning in the kingdom and the days, years, and centuries blend into mere moments of peace, tranquility, and for a young stallion – boredom.  He longs to explore the worlds beyond Lalahlahki, have adventures and see for himself what evil is so he knows how to fight it if the Sacred Barrier protecting the kingdom ever falls.  This longing for more makes him unique among the Sentinels and among his family.

When the Princess brings a young man, barely more than a boy, to the kingdom one day to serve as one of her bodyguards, known as the Warriors of the Light – he sees his chance.  He and the boy, Koyo, become fast friends and the princess declares that Haruto become Koyo’s steed when they travel to other worlds.

The Sentinels have sacred names that only the princess knows and that cannot be spoken or it will remove their power, so each one adopts a nickname.  Haruto’s nickname was Colt – because he was the youngest – and he did not like that name so he asked Koyo to give him a new one.  Koyo named him Haruto, which means both “sunlight” and “soar”.

Haruto is brave, loyal, adventurous, and determined to become the best Sentinel he can be.

#4: Sliver

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

# 4 : Sliver

A mysterious and dangerous hunter, the enigmatic mercenary called Sliver.

Sliver was once a man who lost his arm in an archaeological site digging out a Medieval armory. Though lacking an arm, he managed to procure a strange gauntlet. This gauntlet, unbeknownst to him ,was one piece of a complete suit of enchanted armor  of an ancient warlord that, legend has it, possessed a mind of its own.  This gauntlet possessed the man and overtook his will to become the Hunter known as Sliver,  whose only goal is to procure the remaining pieces of his Cursed Armor so that it can be whole again. He is currently in possession of at least two known components of the Cursed Armor, the Right Gauntlet and the Helm,  which was taken from the Smitsonian and the cloak from the Field Museum.

While the Armor thefts are a concern, its the fact that whenever Sliver comes to to collect or follow a lead on a Cursed Armor piece, he leaves behind a trail of bodies in his wake, which makes Sliver a Most Wanted Superhuman in all law enforcement and federal government agencies. Sliver is also wanted as a top assassin due to his relentless pursuit of becoming complete, neither any opposition or reasoning will stop Sliver from achieving his goals.

Abilities: The Cursed Arm possesses metamorphic properties that encases its host in a metallic coating that protects the user from almost any known weapon. The hand is capable of extending its fingers into impossible lengths and are capable of transforming into various weapons, such as swords, spears, and hooks, for use in combat and defense, as pieces of the armor are capable of projecting spikes out of its exposed plating. The Cursed Helm is another addition that essential suppresses the host’s identity and becomes its own entity, while providing the main means of speech and info in his search for his missing Armor. The Helmet also possesses the same metamorphic properties as the Arm. Sliver wears a kevlar woven bodysuit and the remnants of its previous wielders cloak.

Creation Notes: This character was inspired from me looking at a book on the Art of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy at a Barnes & Noble and saw a helmet from a list of concept sketches for Sauron, and this character stems from that one picture, while taking a nod from Witchblade regarding the weapon arm. The look and style changed throughout high school and I felt it was best to showcase this character. The pose is also based off a previous drawing of Sliver as that was my favorite pose for the character.

#4 – Ring Deshay

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hayden’s husband. C:  They’re around the same age, and met at a tournament for ‘the combative arts’—Hayden with her fencing and Ring for kenpo (or his world’s version of it). He was entranced at seeing Hayden fight, and when she won her part of the tourney, he approached her and asked her to teach him. He was confident in his hand-to-hand combat skills but wanted to achieve the grace and fluidity he observed from the fencers. And the rest is history.

Ring is fairly big for an Alk—he’s at least four inches taller and thirty pounds heavier than the average Alk. But then, he’s only half Alk. His magic is weaker because of it, but he doesn’t care, not anymore. (It also explains his heterochromia—all Alks have green eyes because of the magic in their blood, but Ring has one green eye and one brown eye).

Ring was raised in a tribe of people who dwell on the waterfront—on the other side of the mountains that surround the Alk capital. His tattoo comes from practices on his father’s (the non-Alk) side of the family; once a boy reaches puberty they must shave their heads and meditate to find their fialg, or spirit animal / animal companion. Ring inked a squid-like design on his head because he remembers his father catching a wandering squid one day and how fiercely it fought. It was the strangest animal he’d ever seen before, but he admired it.

Wow, this got really wordy. ;;

#5 Sly Businessman, Charles

The businessman is evil in nature and looks for the easiest mark and the best way to hustle everyone at the table. His appearance automatically gives him away as a cheat and swindler. #5 – Essver Dream-Singer – Warrior Poet

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Essver Dream-Singer, of the People of the Sjurani, son of Minru, son of Daor the Terrible, warrior-poet of Harata II, Sjurani Rex, mated to the nǚgōngjué the Glorious Pielienhis (pe-le-en-hiss).

Stats: 8 feet, 700 lbs.

Capabilities: Physically fit, highly intelligent, well-connected, knowledge of galactic commerce, expertise in acquisition, negotiation and alien psychology, capable of speaking six commerce languages, two dozen well known language groups. Often pretends to be unable to speak in order to gather advantages in negotiations. Not afraid to cheat someone who does not know the real value in a deal. Always keeps his word once he gives it.

Description: Essver is a member of the Sjurani, a descendent of the ancient race of saurians who left Earth during the Cretaceous period. The Sjurani were genetically engineered by what is called the Ancient Enemy, housed inside of the core of the planet Earth. Unbeknownst to them, the alien was being hunted and sought to return to its home with intelligence about the races of the Milky Way. Discerning the alien’s intent, the Sjurani, after realizing their sentience and advancement was based on an invasion of their culture by this alien intelligence, left the planet and dropped an asteroid on the alien intelligence. Not sure of the creatures intent, but suspecting it was trying to leave the Earth, they destroyed all traces of their technology and any indication of their existence on Earth. Wandering the galaxy, they established several colonies in galactic space. Initially quite warlike, they slowly evolved into a more peaceful, but competitive species during their years away from Earth. In an unexpected twist, the Sjurani returned to Earth and rescued Humanity from the same intelligence millennia later.

The Sjurani enjoy their human cousins and collectively with the diverse species of Pan-humanity are called the Children of Earth. Essver is a Rex, a member of a larger warrior group of the Sjurani. The Rex are a matriarchal culture and as such are lead by their females who are larger, often smarter and certainly more dangerous than the males. Essver is fortunately mated to a larger and politically well-connected female who allows him to travel the galaxy working with the Resurrection Corps.

He is the only breeding male of his family unit and has over forty offspring in various ages of development. His mate keeps a bevy of lesser males who raise the children and maintain the family businesses. As the Rex, he is obligated to further the family’s fortunes with information that help the family businesses. Essver’s connections have allowed his family to become affiliated with a variety of alien species and business consortiums. He must periodically return to Harata II and engage in his conjugal duties, but otherwise avoids the tender mercies of his mate. Strangely enough, she has great affection for her Rex and allows him to engage in his travels both because he is quite effective at getting new business and because it pleases him to do so.

Essver is the consummate business-sentient and working with the Corva has given him incredible opportunities in the Imperium. Working with his friend Majoris Thomas Wilks has been both profitable and stimulating and he has great affection for the Majoris. As the Majoris’ handler he has had access to the finest military grade equipment and sources for over two decades. The recent turn in their fortunes has left him in a dour mood but he will recover because the Majoris has always been resourceful and adaptive.

Essver is exuberant and energetic as are many of the Sjurani, quick to anger and quick to laugh. Despite his job as a fixer, he is an accomplished warrior, having spent many years as a mercenary working to establish a fortune good enough to marry into a good family unit. He is not opposed to fighting to solve problems but his great size, strength, ferocity and overall reputation, prevent that from being necessary, as a rule. He and the Majoris met years ago on a campaign and have remained fast friends. Essver is a well-known writer and chronicler of the Majoris tales as a fictional character in a book series called Renegade Blade. The Majoris hated this until he received his first royalty check and now eagerly awaits his next exploit to appear in print.

Stories: Essver debuts in the novel Revenant: Resurrection due to appear June 2012. You can read a story of his adventures called The Gentle Art.

#5: Paul

This is Paul. And he is angry. Watch him “grr” at all things, whether they be slow drivers, faulty thermostats, or just the general populace.
