Jack McPatch

| November 5, 2011 | 3 Comments

Jack McPatchShrouded in mystery, little is known about Jack McPatch. His tendency to appear when you need him and disappear when you also need him, befuddle even the most ardent of the Northern Mountain Fusileers. With motivations beyond our knowing, McPatch has been labeled by some cultures as a trickster spirit and a demon to be feared or run out of town, where as other cultures just ignore him as an excentric. No one knows where or when he came from, some say he doesn’t know either. One thing is certain, It’s hard not to stare at a man who hovers one and a quarter inches off the ground.

# 5 – Bart

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

This is Bart.  He is a ghost, and he’s rather shy.  He doesn’t mind staying in the background, but he is always ready to accomplish any task that he is given.

[In 1974, at the age of 12, I drew a series of “comic books” detailing the adventures of Merrill, a 15-year-old human boy, in the Other Land, an invisible dimension which co-exists with our own.  The characters I am submitting throughout the 30 Days are the inhabitants of the Other Land.]

Character No. 6- Henry London

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Came out much more "mullet-y" than I wanted. Oh well.

Name: Henry London

Age: 24

Ethnicity: Caucasian

Occupation: English Teacher, Guitarist

Short Background:

Despite his size and messy looks, Henry is somewhat a gentle giant. When he isn’t working on his paintings, he spends a lot of time playing his guitar. He tries to be encouraging and is often seen trying to help others. Very much a big brother figure and always looking to work with others.

Henry never really thought about traveling, but when he was offered a chance to teach abroad, he jumped at the opportunity of a lifetime. It was also a chance to see the place where his grandfather once lived during his time in the military. He never knew what he was getting into, but hopefully he can achieve these goals without alienating the people he left behind (including his girlfriend). Only time will tell if he can survive in unfamiliar territory.

Design:
Really, he doesn’t have any truly defining features. He wears a lot of t-shirts and dresses very casually (perhaps more so than his bosses would like). Jeans and perhaps some khakis on occasion. He is not cut out to be a businessman or hold a white collar job, but he puts a lot of effort into everything he does.

03-04_Faunus_&_Fauna

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Fell behind so I doubled up to catch up.

Faunus and Fauna are Discord Summoners for House Ataraxia in the role playing game Imperium Nova – more NPCs that I’m designing, as is the case with Sorcha from yesterday.

Unlike the mercenaries House Ataraxia hires, Discord summoners are raised from a young age and trained in-house, recruited from the local Murcanoan population of Alcor 13, taken from their households before any outside cultural influences can seep in. As such, Faunus and Fauna have lived extremely sheltered, bleak existences. Discord is a hostile, violent energy, both physically and emotionally demanding, thus frequent channeling of it usually results in short life-spans. Even if they aren’t killed in battle (which is pretty likely, as a Discord Summoner forms a major backbone of an Ataraxia seige), the two will not live to see middle-age.

Discord Summoners rarely live even to maturity, unless the child develops a coping mechanism. Fauna and Faunus’ coping mechanism is their mutual support – the pair are twins, and their bond persisted past their exactly conditioning. As such they are more stable than most of their peers.

#5 – Sparks

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Might as well keep going with this setting. This is Roger Sparks, the protagonist’s companion on her mission. He’s been a mentor to her since she joined the military. They’ve done a couple small missions together in the past and work well as a pair.

Like many canine humanoids in this world, Sparks has trouble with spoken language, and ‘speaks’ via sign language and writing (though he prefers signing because he’s a horrible handwriter). While the protagonist is good at melee combat, Sparks shines as a ranged attacker.

Just don’t call him ‘Fido’ or ‘Spot’ and you’d probably get along with him just fine.

#05 – Batboy

Batboy is a one-dimensional character. Although he may develop into a shapeshifter, he’s ostensibly a herald and appears at athletic/competitive challenges.

Day 04 – Door Knob

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Door Knob is not so much a name as it is a alias. He is from a story I’ve been working on for several years now and despite his seemingly “small” roll in the story there is no story without him. I really don’t want to give too much details about him or the story so this is about as much as I’m willing to talk about with him.

I don’t know where I was going with this – an electric-type villain who isn’t the brightest spark. He’s got a lightbulb head, which lights up when he’s got an idea – not the best when he’s hiding in the dark though!

Day #4 & #5: Police Bogrüll riding an Electrical Zipper

| November 5, 2011 | 1 Comment

Name: Bogrüll Medic & Electrical Zipper

Species: Bogrülls

Description: On Day 3, the SFX-2000 witnessed an hold-up in a bank and decided to follow the Bogrüll Bandit while fleeing. It didn’t take too long for a Police Bogrüll to show up, proudly riding an Electrical Zipper. After 2 days of non stop chasing, we ordered the SFX-2000 to go explore other areas of this wonderful world.

#5 – Black Metal

| November 5, 2011 | 2 Comments

I hated taking a smoke break with Kenneth. Dude was always going on about heavy head banging or fairy tales- a weird guy- made me want to quit, to be honest.

“I like Black Metal best… the Norwegians and the Viking stuff, like screaming fucking northmen, you know? Warriors. The heart of rage, and all that shit.”

The shadows coughed, and I caught a whiff of something burning. A haunted, angry face, half hidden by a mop of unruly hair, a curl of smoke, a grey ghost in the night. Something barely suppressed, a tension, hung in the air. Something was different about him, that’s for sure. His eyes…

“In the old days, there were wyrms, man. Dragons. They could do all sorts of mean, really mean shit to, like, common folks. Change shape, to look like a regular dude, play mean pranks, stuff like that. Or burn’em all with, like, fiery breath. Most of ’em, they, like got destroyed by righteous kings, Templars or vikings like, I think, Eric or Beowulf or something.”

There is alot of smoke billowing around us now, and I wonder if the idiot has messed up something back in the refinery, something that could get us both canned. It’s usually right cold outside of the refinery here, frosty, but I break out in a cold sweat at the, I dunno, the whole wrongness of everything. And Kenneth, even in the sub- arctic freeze, he emerges from the shadows in a goddamn tee and hoodie, like it’s a balmy spring eve, and that’s when I see that the smoke seems to be envelloping him, like he’s on fire.

“But, not all of them big lizards got killed”, he says, as his orangy- colored eyes lock feverishly onto mine as he shakes in some sort of spasm, and I realize at long last just how messed up Kenny is, and once more, how deep in trouble I might be in.

“Not me.”

And then he began to grow.

#4 – Doynick

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

Doynick, along with his brothers Daynick and Rando, is a henchman of not-as-yet-introduced evil villain of Doodze. He is the middle-child of the three brothers, and is the fat and dumb one of the group.  He aspires to be a great Waizer (wizard-like Doodze) but is not very talented, so he’s pretty low-ranked and not considered very valuable among the enemy’s minions.  But because he sticks close to his wiser, more ambitious older brother Rando, he hasn’t gotten left behind or cast aside yet.

Note: I’m a day behind, so another fairly-quick sketch will have to do. Actually that’s probably what most of these will be, in order to catch up / keep up / get ahead.

#6 Ahere

Ahere is the mother of Hatarei, daughter to the chieftain of the Redmane tribe and Akamu’s widow.
She married Akamu after the tribe’s shaman, Atawhai, played match-maker. She was one of the few people to
whom Akamu would open up. When her husband died while she was pregnant of Hatarei, she attempted to commit suicide by jumping
off of the summer village branch. Atawhai found her ready to jump as he was doing his morning meditations and talked her out of it. The
two agreed to speak of it to nobody. She cares very much for Hatarei and has been accused by the other villagers of coddling him.
She has long, curly, reddish brown hair and the red mane that her tribe is named for, though both are starting to get streaks of grey.

Father,

We need to speak about Hatarei. Please, convene a tribemoot but make sure my son doesn’t notice anything.
His Changes aren’t what they were supposed to be. He was too much like his father to begin with, I knew this would happen.
Please father, I don’t want to have to do this on my own, he’s the only thing I have left.

#5 Corporal Edelbrecht

Edelbrecht is a young guard at the General’s palace in Mulgrad.
He was born in the murky marshes near the eastern borders of the country, and spent his first fifteen years tending to the fertile, if unstable,
land that his family used to call home. When war came to Edelbrecht’s home, his parents and three sisters were murdered in their bed by
looting mercenaries hired by the Merchant Protectorate. When the officer that was lord of that land came to collect the levies due to him
to fight the aggressors, Edelbrecht was first in line, and he has stayed with the army ever since. He quickly earned the respect of his commander,
and was eventually given a post as palace guard after the General himself had seen his fighting prowess.
He is a quiet and brooding man, not given to fraternizing with fellow soldiers. He is fanatically loyal to the General, and a particular hate for
mercenaries and soldiers who loot. Unbeknownst to anyone but himself and his allies, Edelbrecht is under the direct command of Inquisitor Malagyze.
He is tall but otherwise unremarkable in face or stature, and wears his hair close-cropped in a sodier’s cut.

Watching Hen,

The Vastovs have arrived and we are almost sure that he’ll make his move tonight.
I’ll try to extract the boy and his father, wait for me at the usual place with horses as soon as you’re done in the kitchen.

#5 – Rodrigo Tesla

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

[The following was taken from reports to Interpol Director Francis Croke on the suspected personal of a international organization known as A.B.R.A.C.A.D.A.B.R.A. Whether A.B.R.A.C.A.D.A.B.R.A is a vigilante group, freedom fighters or terrorists is still being investigated]

Name: Rodrigo Martinez

Alias: el motor del la plata, Rodrigo Tesla

Age: 32

Height: 6’1

Current weight: 210

Hair: Bald

Eyes: Brown

Group Affiliations: World Lucha League, Order of the Dynamo, A.B.R.A.C.A.D.A.B.R.A

Distinguishing skills/features:

History: Rodrigo Martinez was born in Mexico City into a family of Luchadores. Rodrigo was trained at an early age to take part in the family business but also showed an uncanny nack for machines, especially automobiles. It was for the reason along with a fierce persverance to never stop anything untill its finished that upon his eighteenth birthday he was given a silver mask and began his career as  el motor del la plata(The Silver Engine). He bacame popular over a short period of time and was even set to become the youngest Lucha League Champion in history but during his match he was unmasked and kicked out of the league.

After that Rodrigo had an existential crisis of both faith and ability, and was shunned by his family for being the only luchadore in generations to be unmasked. After that Rodrigo took to the road trying to find a new purpose in life. Eventually he made his way to Shoreham, Long Island where he stumbled upon the secret temple of the Order of the Dynamo.

The Order of the Dynamo, is a secret order of monks who base their order on the tenants of shaolin and forever striving technological advancement of their founder Nikola Tesla.  Apparently Tesla felt that he had reached the peak of his technological acumen so he then turned to perfecting the ultimate human machine. He studied Buddhism and shaolin and eventually pioneered a form of martial arts that made the human body a living engine capable of incredible feats, not the least of which was shooting lightning out of your hands. Eventually Tesla’s teachings were passed on and the Order of the Dynamo carried on in secret both bettering themselves and advancing technology by leaps and bounds.

Rodrigo eventually proved himself worthy and joined the order finding kindred spirits with his brothers, all of which were given the surname of Tesla upon their joining.

Present Day: Its believed that Rodrigo stayed at the temple for ten years until he left suddenly, the reasons for which are still unknown, and seems to have joined up with A.B.R.A.C.A.D.A.B.R.A almost immediately and eventually surfacing as BT Barnums Driver and Bodyguard

Psych Evaluation: Rodrigo is by far the most well rounded of the agents we have encountered so far but given his past experiences its fair to say that rodrigo is pushed by a fear of failure. Having experienced one blow early on it nearly destroyed him and has no interest in going through it again. Thats why he pushes himself so hard and protect his team mates since anything else would be absolute failure in his mind.

#5 – Ken Wendel

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

This one... actually isn't too bad. Huh.

Ken Wendel is a Zen Plumber.

This doesn’t mean that he goes and sits and meditates on your plumbing problems, of course. He doesn’t light incense or chant at your toilet. The would be ridiculous. But he tries to take a Zen approach to life and the problems of life, especially in his profession.

There are certain problems that can be solved, and certain ones that cannot. For the ones that cannot be solved, it is pointless to worry about them as a solution will never be found. For those that can be – which usually includes plumbing – it is also pointless to worry, because a solution can be found. The key to wisdom is knowing which is which. In addition, he believes that life is, in many ways, like plumbing:

“We want our lives to flow like water through pipes. Free, without blockages or disturbances. And when that doesn’t happen – when the pipes are blocked or the parts don’t work and things start to overflow, we need to seek help. To remove those blocks, to fix what doesn’t work, and let our lives proceed again without impedance. When you do, you find that you’re able to go on with your life again, properly thankful for the way things should be.”

While he’s never been to Japan or studied under a proper Zen teacher, Ken has found a certain peace in the way that he has chosen to look at life. He tries his best to pass that on to his customers, who, while they may be a little unsettled by his Zen-ness, find that he does good work and charges a fair price.

Captain Kruggar Tsubatsu

Captain Kruggar Tsubatsu:

“Hahah! Such cowardly, predictable tactics… Hear me; we have not yet begun to fight! Turrets 1 to 7!  FIRE!!!”

Hot-Blooded Captain of the Gilgamesh, the Galactic Federation’s Class VI Space Battleship. Despite of being an overall wildcard, he’s a highly respected officer, whose infectious courage and determination has helped tip the scales in otherwise unwinnable situations.

During times of peace, he enjoys Opera Verismo with a glass of wine. If you spend a while in the bridge with him, some signs of this can be noticed on him.

#5 – MorningStar by Beausephus

| November 5, 2011 | 0 Comments

CHARACTER NAME: MorningStar

DATE OF CREATION: 1994-ish

CONCEPT: A vigilante who operates by night bringing the huge scythe-like blades attached to his gauntlets to the throats of supernatural creatures brought to life by various underworld and corporate organizations.

_____________________________________

Truth be told, there’s really not much to the back story of Morning Star.  I’m not sure if I ever gave the character a name or identity beyond the visual design and the basic supernatural-hunting methodology.

Moon Knight has always been one of my favorite characters, the basic visual design of the character and his multi-layered back story was really engrossing.  Clearly this design owes a great deal to Moon Knight and, I believe, the Stephen Platt run on the series.

I also must have read the BATMAN: YEAR TWO trade paperback a thousand times or so at that time.  Again, the giant forearm blades are ripped right off of the design of that story’s “villain”, The Reaper.

Instead of fighting “street-level crime” I imagined MorningStar going up against supernatural-meet-scientific creations such as the “Pseudo-Vamps” and artificial zombie-like creatures.  Realistically, could he use such giant, deadly weapons against generic street thugs and still be considered a “hero”?

Also, in retrospect, the various grades of beige and grey don’t do much in terms of dynamic costume design or making a strong visual impact.  Still, I have a soft spot for the character and the odd color scheme.

Thanks for checking out my stuff.
