Day # 3 Jeb the Rathja

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Rathja are a subterrainian race of diggers. Their extremely hard claws act as pickaxes as they create larges tunnel expances in hard rock. They have no eyes in any recognizable sense but they seem to identify each other by colour and light. Their biolumenesence changes dependant on thier stage of life, ranging fron blue to orange. The brightly coloured markings are for attracting possible mates and warning other creatrues of their toxic venom. Generally Rathja a fairly calm and docile species despice their venomous teeth, and then there is Jeb. The colonists in the undergroud region of Deneral have (affectionatly?) given a name to an uprovoked violent Rathja Jeb. Jeb will attack anyone or thing that comes near him, with the exception of other Rathja and children. No one knows what causes his strange behaviour and very few have been able to get close enough to find out.

2011 Challenger: Lighty

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Hi there.

I’m going to be writing up characters (My drawing skills, although some-what there, are not complimented by the necessary computer ones to upload anything regularly^^’)

Already behind, (When did it become the 4th?) it’s going to be interesting to see how well I keep up! I’m a full-time engineering student as well as avid sci-fi and fantasy fan.

Well, here goes!

30 Characters #4

#4 – Rick Anders

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

I don't know how to draw a shapeshifter, but I know he'd want to look something like this guy (image source unknown)

Rick Anders is that most unusual of people – a shapeshifter.

He has the ability to “scan” other people and take on their physical forms. The longer he pays attention to someone, the more detailed his understanding of them becomes and the better he can change to copy them. With enough concentration and time, Rick can even temporarily acquire physical skills, diagnose ailments and even gain some of their moods and personality.

Understanding the danger of being a doppelganger, however, Rick usually doesn’t remain looking like any one person. Instead, he picks and chooses details and blends them into a form that he wants to look like. So he might have the lustrous black hair of one man, another man’s bright green eyes, and a third’s long and delicate fingers. He can mix and match until he’s perfectly happy with how he looks, which usually doesn’t last too long. In a habit that he doesn’t quite understand as really creepy, he takes photographs of each new body plan he acquires and keeps them on his computer.

This will come back to bite him in the ass sooner or later, of course.

His original form is pasty, flabby and while not being conventionally ugly, it certainly didn’t turn any heads. When he was young, his older brother was drop-dead handsome, and knew it. He was also a manipulative coward, and mocked any attempt that Rick made to better himself through sports or exercise, lest Rick grow up to be better-looking and thus steal what little superficial thunder he had. This gave Rick a very unhealthy body image, which made his shapeshifting abilities something of a godsend for him. He doesn’t know where his powers came from or how they work. He just knows how to use them to make himself look the way he wants to.

Also, they seem to have a couple of limitations. For one, he can only copy human men. Trying to copy women gives him intense feedback pain, and trying to copy animals is worse. He may overcome these in the future, but right now his vanity and his low-grade narcissism make that a low priority. Also, he’s limited to his own mass in terms of how big or small he can get. What’s interesting is that no matter what size he becomes, he weighs about three hundred pounds, much more than he did before the powers kicked in. His effective size range is from a ten year-old child on the low end to a large linebacker on the high.

Now he lives in Corsair City as a model, and spends his days looking for new bodies to snatch. It isn’t until he runs into a strange man in a cafe that he realizes there’s a bigger game going on than he knows…

#4 – Paper

| November 4, 2011 | 5 Comments

Number 4 – Paper! I had a really hard time picturing this character, and a harder time describing her to Jonathan! I was this close to scrapping the idea all together, worried that I was forcing it because of the names of her team mates.

I had a vague notion about what I wanted her to be able to do, but ended up describing a mummy, a whip-handed woman and a two dimensional paper cut out at different points!

Luckily Jonathan saved the day!

Jeff, the grumpy slug.

See the “How I made it” video here.

#4 Jack

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Jack drives to work every day. He commutes alone, from a subburb an hour away from the city. He lives with a wife he knows is cheating on him, and two kids which make the only two reasons he stays with her. And they’re pretty piss poor reasons.

His job is boring, “but it’s a job” he tells himself. He doesn’t go to bars. He doesn’t go to movies. He spends his days at work, and his nights inside, surrounded by his family, and alone. He sighs in the morning when he gets up, and when he climbs into his own, seperate bed, he fails to remember the good times.

He just drives to work every morning, and drives back every evening. And it’s in what would under any other circumstances, be a boring drive, a lament of everyone else’s existence, that Jack looks forward to. That Jack lives for. In his car, in that drive, is when he’s careless, wreakless almost.

It’s not that he drives like he’s crazy, or has an expensive sports car. He’s cautious, and his car is an old ‘97 sedan, the kind that even when it was new, was just a car.

It’s what he becomes in this car, when he’s alone. He puts in his CD, and sings along with the band, who seem to sing about all his wants. He wants to live his life without the care and caution he always shows. He wants to end his relationship with his wife, and leave her with the kids that spit in his face. He wants to quit his job for something exciting, and he wants to finally ask out that girl in the cubicle a few down from his. He wants to buck up, and tell the people in his life, just once, to shut the fuck up.

In his car, he’s who he wishes he was, and who he knows he can’t be. When he opens that door, he knows he has to be the Jack everyone knows and depends on, and not the Jack no one suspects even exists.

One can only guess who he’ll be after the impact…. If he’ll even be anyone.

#4: The Outsorcerer

Imagine showing up to work and this guy is waiting to ask you about your job?

#3 Dr Shamalan

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Dr Shamalan

Who you callin' a monkey chump? I'm the prime ape!

Dr Akbar Shamalan was working in the Primate emporium when the Large Hadron Collider exploded. Not only did the result science type things fuse his DNA with one of the research chimps but some tachyons or something sent him back in time to the glorious 1980’s.

Upon arriving with a now-gorilla security guard named Attenborough Shamalan quickly realised that it was no coincidence the two had ended up in 1986. Using all his wile and a trench he got from some bum he beat up, Shamalan started a new life a hardboiled primate detective.  Using his new persona as a excuse to find out who is really behind the Ani-Malfunction.

Shamayan is actually a kindly scholar but has always been fixated on detective novels. His hard guy act often falls through but the fact it’s a chimp thats rinsing you for info and they can rip your arms off means that mre often than not he gets the info he wants.

Shamalan is also an accomplished synthesiser player and occasionally plays in an electro-blues fusion band. As determined as he is to find out who caused the accident at CERN he’s not altogether sure he want to revert to his human self or travel back to the future. Being a chimp is fun. Plus he gets more girls his way.

#4: M.O.M.

| November 4, 2011 | 1 Comment

M.O.M. stands for “Mind Over Matter”. M.O.M. is the worlds most powerful telekinetic superhero. Because he is so powerful, he really doesn’t care that his name spells out “Mom”, and villains fear his power too much to laugh at him. Because of his power, he also doesn’t care about his weight, as he really doesn’t need to be in shape to do anything that needs to be done. Even though none of his arch enemies have been able to best him, his obesity may be his true worst enemy that will finally do him in.

#3 The Ghost of Dead Jessica

| November 4, 2011 | 1 Comment

The Ghost of Dead Jessica

Jessica Died at age 17. She was lost in a forest when she got attacked by a pack of wolves and was killed quickly and painlessly. Fortunately for her, while that was the end of her life, it wasn’t the end of her story. Her spirit was allowed to become a ghost to haunt the forest in which she was killed. And that is what she did.

For about a year.

And then she got bored with it. Haunting is very repetitive and not that many people go into forests any more, so instead she decided to study. She obviously couldn’t go to school and her body has almost no impact on physical objects, but she can turn pages with her ghostly hands and luckily for her, she had a whole host of abandoned books to choose from!

So Jessica i suppose is what you would call a nice learned ghost girl. Before her death she was quite pretty, and she has managed to keep herself looking quite nice except for the fact that every now and then a ghost image of her previous body will fade into view.

#2 Lissy-Mae

Lissy-Mae and… friends

#2 Tiberus

| November 4, 2011 | 1 Comment

Day 2

This is Tiberus. He is absolutely ferocious. Not cute at all. No, not cute. In fact he doesn’t have time to be cute, I mean, being a dragon and all. And why is he so furry you ask? Because he is also a red panda.

Take that, Logic.

Day 03: RabbitMan

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rabbit Man:

only superpower is his two lucky feet, so basicly he’s lucky as long as he doesn’t wear anything on his feet. Arch nemesis is The footlocker sign.

Just a bit late submission.

#4- Jonah the giant feral dwarf

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Jonah’s a pretty unlucky dwarf: he got to 7 feet tall before his 80th birthday and suffers from alopecia. Both sad circumstances got him shunned from dwarf society and exiled in the forests.

Because he never learned a craft (or a language for that matter), his survival depends on pillaging nearby farms. Humans fear him  and have formed several hunting parties to kill him.

Yup, he’s a pretty bitter guy!

#3 Sam

| November 4, 2011 | 2 Comments

This is Sam. You may think he’s just another average geeky teenage boy, but I can assure you he is not. When he’s not playing D&D with his friends he is fighting crime using his greatest weapon. A magical fighting mustache.

#4 Muse

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

This is Muse and his reflection. I will let you choose which one is the reflection though. They tend to swap at times like a split personality. But that’s all okay with him.

Muse completes my first set I think. Maybe if I feel like drawing others from this series (that is still in my mind and hasn’t been written out yet).

PS Sorry for some of the shabby colouring and erasing ever. But my tablet is hating me atm and so are my eyes 8| (should be wearing my glasses)

#3 Aeria

AeriaThis is Aeria, She’s a total techno geek. Has no powers unlike Myst, Nora and Muse (Will come up next) She treats all her stuff as if it was alive. Maybe someday.
