# 4 – Cirrus

| November 4, 2011 | 1 Comment

Cirrus is an air elemental.  He’s not the most powerful one around, but he can generate strong winds, precipitation and lightning.  He feels sorry for his friends who cannot fly.

<Creator comments:  Yeah, I know that “cirrus” is a type of cloud, while Cirrus looks more like a gust of wind.>

[In 1974, at the age of 12, I drew a series of “comic books” detailing the adventures of Merrill, a 15-year-old human boy, in the Other Land, an invisible dimension which co-exists with our own.  The characters I am submitting throughout the 30 Days are the inhabitants of the Other Land.]

#4 – Martha King: Computer Tech, Adventurer

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Name: Martha King

Height: 5 feet, 5 inches

Weight: 155 pounds

Age: 67

Hair: White

Eyes: Brown

Distinguishing features: None

Occupation: Computer scientist and technologist; Nomad Scout, Eastern United States.

Known Relatives: Husband, son-in-law, daughter, grand-son, grand-daughter

History: One of only a few small town survivors from upstate New York, Martha was rescued by Elwood King nearly twenty years ago. Martha’s family was killed during the initial assault and reveal of the alien invaders who had been living on Earth for decades in plain sight appearing as trees. Martha was educated as a computer scientist and was working as a datacenter manager before the Arrivals disrupted world wide power systems. After the death of her family, she was devastated and refused to participate in any level of interactions for a time. Elwood, even with the horror of the invasion found the Arrivals to be fascinating and even beautiful in their diversity. After staying with Elwood for two years, she began to realize society as we understood it was ending without people taking an active role in shaping that future. She began to work with the local government to begin spreading communications and support technologies allowing small computer and communication technologies to be re-established.

Today: Martha, unlike Elwood, has no love of the Arrivals, and is trying to do everything in her power to destroy the Arrivals. She takes the meeting of the President of the Eastern United States as a sign and has redoubled her efforts to find a weakness in the Arrivals. Elwood’s vast understanding of the creatures has given them an amazing advantage and she has begun to see an underlying logic to the Arrivals and their development. This understanding has lead her to believe and with the collaboration of the government, there is a timetable to recent developments in the Arrivals and their behavior. Unless they can discover what is happening, the human race is not likely to last another decade as the Arrivals choke humanity into tighter and smaller quarters all over the planet.

Psychological Profile:  Martha is a cool customer since the loss of her family and protects her new family with the strength of a lioness. She is a capable leader and often takes control of the family or nomadic unit when Elwood is out of contact or out of commission. She defers to his judgement in regards to the Arrivals as he is considered to be one of the world’s foremost practical authorities of their behaviors. She is the leading authority on the new technical network being established in the Eastern United States and wants to push the network westward in the hopes of establishing further connections to human outposts that might still remain in order to allow them to coordinate food, resources and services. Considering the state of the world at the moment, Martha might be considered less than stable if she were found in the Pre-Arrival US, but by post-Arrival standards, she is the model citizen; self possessed, focused, dedicated, and capable of surviving anything the world can throw at her.

First Appearance: Tales of the New Earth

Story Description:
In The Arrivals: Tales of A New Earth, an alien invasion has occurred, but unlike anything imagined. New life has landed on Earth and is replacing everything before it. Humanity had expected alien invaders to arrive in terrible space craft, armed with the most sophisticated of weapons. When they came, we thought we would have a chance against them. We never even knew they were here and had lived here for decades, perhaps even centuries, masquerading as trees. When the meteor swarms began, we had no idea, the invasion had begun, in earnest.

The Arrivals: Tales of a New Earth features Elwood King, a sixty year old former forest ranger, wandering this new world, secretly in love with it alien beauty and fecundity. He sees a dying world reborn with new life. His more practical wife, Martha who would love nothing more than to eradicate the alien menace to the last spore.

Staying on the move, he and his family experience this new world on the front lines, sharing information for temporary room and board. When they rescue the President of the United States from the ruins of the Pentagon, they discover the Arrivals have continued to change the Earth to an unknown purpose. She conscripts Elwood and his family to guide her West to the center of the contagion and the answers they are all seeking.

Tales of a New Earth is broken down into four Seasons, each bringing new threats, challenges, beauty and terror as the Arrivals transform the Earth to an unknown purpose. Mankind, decimated, struggles to find a place in this New World. Humanity as we knew it is doomed, the only question is can we understand what is happening in time to resist?

#4 – Belle Starr – Rogue

| November 4, 2011 | 2 Comments

Belle Starr - Rogue

A rather famous outlaw from the Midwest, Belle Star was actually referred to as the “female Jesse James.” Which is bizarre, but it gets the point across. She was stylish, a crack shot, and from what I can tell, kind of violent, all of which feeds together to create a character who ends up feeling rather legendary.

In RPGs, there tend to be two outlaw-style classes; Rogues and the more ubiquitous Thieves. Though similar in many respects, these classes have distinctly different focuses. The Thief’s main interest is in items, specifically relieving enemies of as many of them as possible. Conversely, the Rogue uses the same basic techniques, but with a focus on dealing damage. Where the Thief would dart behind an enemy in order to pick their pocket, the Rogue would simply plant a knife in the enemy’s back. Given Belle Starr’s violent criminal record, she seemed a better candidate for Rogue.

#2 Eyre

#2 Eyre by Daniel Govar

A Blue from Charn, Eyre is of course one of their warrior caste, exemplified by his blue burn and four arms. Eyre is known as a world conqueror; bringing five worlds under the Majestrix’s domain. Eyre commands the elite Twelfth Column and reports directly to the Pillars themselves.

Eyre is surprisingly young for a Blue with his accolades, being only on his sixth burn. Like all Blues, Eyre has distaste for the lower burning Ambers and Yellows. Bred for war and educated by imprint well before his first burn, Eyre has only ever had contact with the lower castes through the off-world missives of the Pillars. The Amber, Phoen, appears to him competent, unlike most Ambers, and far more fetching than he was led to believe capable in an Amber. He has heard of color-mixing before, but typically the Blues and Greens have destroyed their lovers afterwards to remove evidence of their lapses in judgement. Eyre finds this weakness for carnal pleasure strange. Why risk so much?

#4: The Unsuspecting Anorexic

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Not gonna lie, this one makes me kind of nervous...

Text reads:

“Jolene’s anorexic.

(She doesn’t know why)

She loves food and drink.

(She’s the last to deny)

But she went to the doctor; he’s startled to find

that she’s frail, and pale, and ready to cry.

Jolene’s anorexic, but she doesn’t know why.

It started with days

when she just didn’t eat.

Not hungry, too busy,

too fast on her feet.

She’d get up at six and get out on the street.

Go to work, skip her lunch, then come home and she’s beat.

And these were the first days she just didn’t eat.

Look, you’re losing weight;

it’s good to be thin.

You don’t eat red meat?

Just coffee? You win!

Jolene loved her curves and the shape she was in,

but her friends let her go, let her wasting begin.

They said “You’re losing weight! It’s great being thin!”

We’ll loose all this weight; it’s grand to be thin.”

It started raining today. Rain always bums me out a little.

To be honest, this one creeps me out; the idea of being so busy and caught up doing the things other people tell you to do because it will lead to you being healthy and happy and safe, instead of just being happy and healthy and safe in the first place, that’s what scared me about the future. And I have this conception that people who have a problem don’t know they have a problem for so long, for one reason or another, that it’s scary to look at yourself and see how that problem’s changed you. Jolene is my nightmare.

EDIT: Also, hehe, I should mention that I think I’m gettin’ a little experimental up in here. Mmmm, look at the shape the words make… undulation. deconstructive interference.

As the bumbling son of franchise owner Abraham A. Arnold, Albert is heir to the family company fortune and all of its assets and liabilities – including a losing Hockey club. As a child, Albert was never interested in sports, and has taken more of an intellectual path in life, as the president of research and development for the family’s auto corporation (Arnold Motors). With the eventual passing of his father comes a large responsibility. Does Albert try to run the ship himself, or will he be forced to sell the team to an owner who has the sports business acumen needed to make the franchise a winning one?

Harold was never popular around the office. Maybe it was his individuality, or the way he meticulously performed even the most mundane tasks. Whatever the reason, he did find it to his advantage when it came down to the last muffin.

#4 – Troll Prince

| November 4, 2011 | 4 Comments

“I picked these for you!”

The young prince of the forest trolls. Maybe 8 or 9, developmentally, more in troll. Though they sound fearsome, they’re actually a fairly peaceful clan and the prince exemplifies their culture; sweet, gentle, thoughtful and warm, but not much of a leader. He’s not terribly smart, emotionally and physically dependent, clingy and a crybaby. He is VERY fond of his babysitter, Kriff – maybe a little too fond, all things considered. But they’re very close, and Kriff confides in him as she would a brother.

Plus, he brings her mushrooms. It’s very sweet.

Here is Super Ninja Man. He’s not just like a regular ninja, because he’s like a super one. He uses swords, nunchucks, and sticks but he has a gun, too, just in case.

Thanks, Xavier

#4: Richard Klinger

| November 4, 2011 | 2 Comments

Name: Richard Klinger
Age: ??
Occupation: “Fitness Guru”

Character info: Richard Klinger is the brainchild of mine and a co-worker’s…don’t ask how this got started. Richard claims to be a fitness guru and has mastered all forms of fitness. However, he tends to only do the super low leg stretches as you see here. Also, he’s not exactly in the best shape in the world. But hey, that doesn’t stop him from rocking out the too-short-shorts, leotard, weight lifting belt, leg warmers, and headband! Just ignore the creamy deoderant stains. Also, he tends to fiercely bite his lower lip during stretches. I may do a mini-comic about Mr. Klinger some day…

#3 Emma Paolo

| November 4, 2011 | 4 Comments

I’ve been watching a lot of Supernatural lately and I kept thinking about the iconic Chevy Impala.  If the Impala was a person what would they be?

Sleek black car, bright yellow headlights? She’s a modern day púca.  Emma can be found all over the US, haunting highway pit stops and picking up  unsuspecting hitchhikers.  She’ll take them on a wild ride and drop them where they need to be, even if that means returning home.

Bit of mixing of an actual impala, the car, the Coyote, a puca and mother I saw at a pit stop once dressed in the same thing.

#4 – Pulse

| November 4, 2011 | 3 Comments

As mentioned in my previous posts, the first five characters I’m creating are all based on me, so, collectively, they are called, “The Vitos.”

Most of my friends would say I have a big heart. In fact, it’s something people have been telling me for a long time. I don’t see it. I feel like I’m mean, sarcastic, and a little bit of a dick. But let’s say they’re right…

Joe Parker has a condition; his heart is too big. Growing up, it was a real problem. He was taken to hospital after hospital, but it’s not like there’s a cure for this. As he got older, and his body started to grow, the heart didn’t increase in size…but it was still three times larger than a normal human heart. And then came the stroke. While crossing the street one day, Joe fell to his knees, clutching at his chest. The truck didn’t see him and it would have hit him, until…

Joe held up his hand. His big heart beat, and the pulse in his hand (wrist) emitted tremendous vibrations, slowing, and eventually stopping, the truck down. His greatest hindrance is now his greatest weapon. When Joe increases his heart rate, he can emit powerful vibrations. He puts on a costume and calls himself Pulse, an adrenaline junkie-hero. But what Joe doesn’t know is that the strain on his heart will eventually kill him.

NOTE: I’m using Hero-O-Matic (aka Fabrica De Herois) to create my characters. Give it a shot!

#4 Rootbeer McScrubbyfloor

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

Rootbeer McScrubbyfloor was a successful janitor at  a magazine for years until the night he caught the publisher disposing of several bodies in a trash compactor. The next day he was mysteriously promoted to Creative Director, where his primary accomplishment was replacing Hawaiian Shirt Friday with Shiny Pants Friday (in honor of his own shiny silver pants). During his time as creative director Rootbeer enjoyed relaxing in his office and taking six hour lunches. It was later found that during these six hour lunches he would return to his glory days of floor cleaning and window washing.

#4 Barry the Human Beard

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments
Barry the Human Beard

Oh hey, don't mind him. he'll probably try and kill you but that doesnt mean we cant be friends

When some toxic waste was irresponsibly discarded in the sewers no one thought that the waste would end up mutating some flushed bearded shaving. Over time the small bundle of hairs grew into a sentient being and through its teenage years it grew to hate the society that would so easily abandon a being whose only crime was loving chins.

Overtime the beared being grew and left the sewers to wreak havok on the human world. Throughout its teenage years it grew into a house sized monster that destroys all it see before it, only momentarily pausing to allow beard men to flee. Occasionally it wonders if it, not the shaving humans are the real monster.

Now it is early 20’s it has grown a beard of its own who goes by the name of Barry. Barry is a friendly beard and will apologise for its owner in particularly destructive rampages. He likes the musical stylings of the BeeGees and his greatest regret is that his owner wont allow him to put some clothes on. He’d be your buddy if he wasn’t attached to a murderous beard monster.

Day 4: Hack/Slash Killer

Rhaptor

First sighting: Two years ago.

Alias: T-Road, Tyrannosaurus Bastard

Identity: Secret – Terry Rhodes

Features: Reptilian-human features, including clawed feet and hands. razor-sharp talons, teeth, and claws, prehensile tail

Skills: Stealth speed, camouflage skin, cellular regeneration, night vision

Terry Rhodes’ parents knew their son was always going to be a troublemaker. He constantly got arrested as a teen and did a lot of robberies as an adult. Terry knew his time was going to be up so, but he had no other talents to offer the world, so he did a lot of volunteer work. He needed a real job and wanted to reform, but he kept being lured into the world of crime, and those two worlds clashed when he answered a want ad online for a “research assistant” for a company known as Mallum Inc.

When he got there, he noticed the place was dilapidated and creaking. Water dripped everywhere, and in the middle of the hall stood a tall, husky fellow with a demonic face. The man, calling himself Vox Mallum, told Terry that he could give him whatever he want as long as he stayed loyal to him. Scared, he wanted to run out, but the halls got bigger and he couldn’t reach the door. After running for about 30 minutes, he got tired and relented. The room changed into a palace. Terry was impressed, but he knew that there was something wrong about all of this, and it was.

Mallum gave Terry the abilities to regenerate limbs, becoming fireproof, to blend into the background, to see in total darkness, and more or less be the perfect thief. But in order to do that, he had to transform into a lizard-like man. Terry figured life wasn’t going to give him a fourth chance, and people already saw him as a freak anyway, so, he agreed, becoming Mallum’s number one henchman, Rhaptor, who was a lot smarter and more proficient about crime than his boss, who appreciated his talents. This tandem has made it their mission to make life difficult for the heroes of this new world.

Rhaptor: TM and (C) Jeff Harris dba Studio Lightcount.

03 – Azure Aviator

| November 4, 2011 | 2 Comments

… continued from #2, the Gold Gladiator…

… [as a meteor] strikes the ground directly in front of Army Captain Robin Hughes, helicopter pilot for Senator Day and his wife, Hilda.  Captain Hughes is showered in blue crystalline meteoric fragments and thrown into the air by the impact.  Captain Hughes did not come back down.

The force of the blast had embedded the blue crystal shrapnel all over Capt. Hughes’ body through his shredded clothes.  While airborne from the meteoric shock wave the crystals began to glow and resonate with the Captain’s mental desire to live and not crash into the ground.  Captain Hughes stopped moving and remained stationary and safe suspended in midair glowing a faint blue.

Code named the AZURE AVIATOR, Captain Hughes serves as aerial reconnaissance and support for the Secret Soldiers under the command of Senator Day, in the guise of the Gold Gladiator, as the first flying hero!

The Azure Aviator can levitate and fly, propelling him forwards at tremendous speeds, with the aid of the meteor crystals that riddle his body and respond to his mental commands!  With some concentration he can extend his anti-gravity field outward to include a single person and take them with him.

While the meteors that fell that night granted Captain Hughes extraordinary powers, and served as the power source for the Secret Soldiers’ floating headquarters, dubbed the Strato-Sphere, the rest of those gathered for the encounter with the Danaians weren’t so fortunate.  Take for example…

| November 4, 2011 | 0 Comments

I just wanted to draw a Cowboy.

Obviously Alvaro has a natural affinity for cows over horses. He isn’t very useful on the family ranch as his Papi hoped he’d be. Looks like he and Mancha are taking a busqueda to figure out where they belong.

They seem happy about it.

#4 Fausto Kaffra

| November 4, 2011 | 1 Comment

King of the Chupacabras and sworn enemy of the unicorn tribe, especially the unicorn princess (remember yesterday’s character? Yes! her!).

The Chupacabras clan and the Unicorn people have always been at war since the dawn of time. It is said that Chupacabras were once unicorns too, black unicorns, but they were exiled from their lands by their pure white cousins.  The Chupacabras were forsaken to a dark and desolate land where they suffered from famine and lack of water, thus becoming a mere shadow of the glorious people they once were. To survive, they desperately started preying on goats and small poultry from nearby farmlands, and because of this, they were called “The Chupacabras” (goatsuckers). They swore to return one day to their original home, having their revenge from their white brothers.

Today the battle still lives on…. and these two characters will face each other for their people….

#4 – The Screecher

| November 4, 2011 | 3 Comments

Hot on the heels of Professor Neutrino’s debut is another of his lackeys — the Screecher! With her black wings she terrorizes humanity from above! Her deafening shrieks drive all to madness! All will succumb to her deathcry!
