2011 New Challenger: RandomSyhn
Hey world! My name is Jaclyn and when I’m not zombified I’m either doing schoolwork or drawing. (maybe possibly watching movies and TV too) I’m a fourth year human Kinetics student who hopes to become an art student after graduation. I love coming up with character concepts so I feel like this challenge is definitly for me.
I joined this challenge mostly to be honest to get some more exposure for my work, also of course to hopefully improve in leaps and bounds. I’m really excited for this challenge as well as to see what everyone else comes up with.
My dA is here where more works in progress and sketches can be found on my tumblr here which is actually what brought me here.
Howdy 30 Days
This is a test to see if I know how to do this properly. Â I am Vendetta Lee, and I suppose that if I wanted to get maudlin, I could say I am my first character. Â But It’s not even Nov. 1, so I think I’ll give it a pass, for, like forever.
I’m a storyteller. Â I wouldn’t call myself anything as highbrow as an author. And this sounds like fun.
2011 Challenger: DeAngela Goggans
Hey! My name is DeAngela, but I like being called Dee because it’s easier to remember! I’ve been drawing since I was little babby, and I’m currently a sophomore in high-school! I want to draw for a living and work with a bunch of cool people when I grow up!
I joined because I love creating and designing characters (and because this seemed like a ton of fun).
So yeah!!! This is my first time doing something like this, so I hope this will be a fun experience!
Oh right, here’s my art blog! Thank you for reading, y’all.
2011 Challenger: Bridgeport Cat
Hello, all! I’m Bridgeport Cat, and I’m a writer/semi-ok artist who’s been in a funk lately. I do superhero/cutesy/goofball types of art, and have been wanting to kick myself into high gear. I’ve got an entire superhero universe in my brain that’s severely devoid of characters, and I see this challenge as a way to finally fill it up!
Right now I really don’t have a place for my art that’s worth looking at, but hopefully soon I’ll have an art tumblr filled with some of my stuff.
2011 Challenger: camaryllis
I’m not very good with introductory posts…but, I’m Ling, and I joined this because I want to push myself to try this challenge out! Hopefully it will be accomplished by the month’s end. I hope to learn many things from this challenge! And I hope to not fall behind too much either.
I’m a graphic design student, but on the side, I draw pretty much everyday so as to keep a running progressive timeline and to never lose practice.
My art blog is here, and is updated quite frequently, and I will be crossposting this challenge there as well.
2011 Challenger: Kashizzle
‘Yo everyone! I’m Sandra aka Kashizzle, a 24-year-old (soon to be 25!) animation student/game designer from Melbourne, Australia. Like many of you, I saw this on tumblr and thought it was a great alternative to NaNoWriMo (which I always say I’m going to do, but never do!)
Character design is something I like, despite my illustration skills not being terribly good. I plan on using this challenge as an opportunity to get improve my skills and tone my creative muscles, so to speak. Although my dafault art style is heavily manga influenced (especially by the works of Shigenori Soejima and Kazuma Kaneko, amongst others), I also want to try new things.
I’m an avid gamer, but I also enjoy anything creative (My mother taught me how to crochet over the weekend) and am happiest when I’m being productive. My submissions may not always be finished (my course is very intense), but I look forward to seeing what I (and everyone else who undertakes this!) come up with!

2011 Challenger: mayamei
Hey, I’m Christine. I’ve been drawing digitally for quite a while (my precious graphire wires are fraying) writing a bit too.
I want to expand my comic’s world a little more, or possibly make a new universe, so this seems to be a great way to do it. Hopefully I’ll come out the other end alive!
2011 Challenger: Jeff Harris
Howdy, hello, and salutations.
My name is Jeff Harris.
I’m a writer. I’ve been writing for many years, professionally for a touch over 13 years. Mostly, I’ve been writing commentary about animation, comics, and the industries that house them, mostly at my own domain and various blogs and such. Now’s not the time for plugging them. At least, I don’t think so.
I’ve been writing fiction much longer than that. I think I wrote my first story at the age of five. I wrote my first book at the age of eight, and I had a teach take my second book away from me and never seen again. I’ve dabbled in detective stories, sci-fi dramas, adventures, martial arts tales, fantasy, and superheroic fiction. I’ve created many characters over my 33 years of life, but I’ve never did anything like this before.
30 characters in 30 days? It’s possible. I have to flesh out an entire world in a month. I don’t want to use any of my other characters and worlds, so I’m starting from scratch. A superhero story and a potential universe out of thin air.
What fun! Wish me luck.(Feel free to follow me at @nemalki on Twitter and thoughtnami at Tumblr; that’s the only outside plug I’ll do now).
And keep creating.
My name’s Peter A. Turner, AKA Aborted Slunk, and have my finger in many creative pies, mainly animation, illustration, writing and music. I am rather good at those things but quite terrible at everything else. My special fondness is for creating characters, especially on the spot, and so was absolutely unable to pass up the opportunity to undertake this challenge.
2011 Challenger: Lovell
I go by a variety of different names, three in reality, four on the web. Cant help myself. But when it comes to my art and novels I go by Lovell.
I write poems, novels, and comics. I draw the comics I write, but none of which have ever made their way up onto the web. I have a BFA in Graphic Design and hope to go to grad school for something animation or illustration based.
I compete in NaNoWriMo every year (for the past four years) but this year is a no go. This, on the other hand, will be a welcome, easier challenge.
2011 Challenger: Mike Rogers
Hello there, world. Always been a big fan of comics, books, and all forms of writing. Â Not really an artist drawing-wise, but I think my creativity as a writer makes up for it. Â Looking forward to the challenge, if only to continue to get my creative juices flowing.
2011 Challenger: L Jamal Walton
I’m L Jamal Walton and I’ve been doing daily sketches on my Facebook fan page since August 16th. This is my attempt push that sketching to a new level.
You can find my previous work at:
http://www.facebook.com/ljamalprod
You can buy my work at:
Pokemon Trainer Bob wants to challenge you to a battle
Name’s Bob, or so everyone calls me. I come in peace from the great land of the maple leaf. (about an hour away from Toronto in Canada)
I’ve been in an art slump the last year and a bit. So I am here hoping this will fix it. I mostly prefer to work with traditional mediums and colour with markers. I’ve started to try more digital work though but I am not great at it by any means.
If I am not slaving away at work, I’m hermiting myself in my room either gaming or drawing if I can musker it up. If I do draw I normally listen to a range of neo-swing, euro dance/electric/techno/trance, dubstep and anything that has a good beat and catchy.
I can also be found at
dA: http://le-bob-chan.deviantart.com/
Skype: angle-dust-Anderson (just let me know you’re from here)
Don’t be afraid of me, I like meeting new people, plus I think drawing and talking is nice :3
2011 Challenger: J. James
Alright Alright!
This is going to be a busy month, but as a nice change of pace this will be the first month which I am not tabling at a comics convention, so busy or not, I can completely commit to this endeavor.
I’m setting a lot of goals for myself this month. Since I’m finally not traveling, every morning I will create a new character as a warm-up exercise before I set to work on my commissions and my own stories.
This will also force me to Sit Down and Work on My Portfolio which is a constant drag on me.
It will be exciting to see what everyone comes up with, and it will be a goal of mine to check out all the submissions in the morning and evening. Onward and upward!
2011 Challenger: Dom Zito
Hey-lo everybody. I’m Dom and I believe I am an illustrator, printmaker or graphic designer. I’m in the process of figuring out which one is more for me and until then, I will do this challenge. Good luck to all and hoping to see some awesome art and ideas.
2011 Challenger: H.R.I. “Renee”
Hello, everyone! I go by my middle name in the art community, so you can call me Renee or Ren.
I’m 22 and living in the ATL. I intern at Whitestone Motion Pictures, but I am between jobs and schools. My aim is to get a degree in graphic design (like everyone and their mother is doing) and make a living off that. I’m a hobbyist when it comes to illustration, but I sure do love doing it!
I love the romantic and the macabre, and most of my characters are initially inspired by songs or types of music. In all likelihood, I will try to post the title of the song of inspiration along with the character too!
Good luck, boys and girls!
Greetings, everyone.
My name is… Eh, well you don’t need to know that, but you can call me jacobsmacob. Or Jakie. Or Jake, even if I am a girl. I’m here because I need a cure for my art block and I need to trigger creative juices and the ability to think up new, fresh ideas. I love to write stories and create characters, so this is very interesting for me. I draw in an anime style so beware if you hate that stuff.
I will not draw in chibi style all the time. Or at least try really hard not to, since that what I draw when I’m lazy.
I’m not the best or most skilled artist around and my anatomy sucks. I don’t own a scanner so I will be forced to use my camera to take pictures of my drawings. I will try to edit then so that they will be decent enough but, really, how much decency can you expect from a crappy digital camera and bad lighting?
Here’s an idea of what the quality of images will look like. Here and here give ideas, also.
Wish me luck with this challenge and wish everyone else who’s in this luck, as well.
2011 Challenger: R. ZAGAR
Helloooooo! I’m Roxie.
Using this site makes me realize how internet stupid I am. Oh well, here goes: I’m a 19-year-old aspiring comic lady. I’m in art school at the moment, and I figure this challenge is a great way to make myself actually meet a deadline. I’ve been writing stories and drawing characters for ages, but sadly, none of them are one the web quite yet. Feel free to check out my tumblr though, I post a bunch of fun junk. (turdtime.tumblr.com)
So, let’s form an alliance?
2011 Challenger: Sarah Millet
Hello all!
My name is Sarah Millet, an animator currently living in the Bay Area. I saw this challenge while surfing through tumblr and thought it would be the perfect thing to motivate me in the month of November.
I’ll mostly be posting characters here that I am putting together for my character design portfolio. Although most have been either sketched/doodled in some fashion, none have yet to be refined or drawn with great detail. I hope to change that this month and come up with some awesome portfolio pieces. My characters are usually fantasy based and are usually made for animation (less detailed than those made for comics) but I really hope I can come up with some brand new ideas that are out of my usual comfort zone for this amazing challenge. I am excited to see what everyone comes up with! Good luck everyone!
I’ll be posting my progress and finished pieces on tumblr. Feel free to add me and I will definitely add you back!
Cheers
-Sarah
2011 Challenger: BillieBillie
Hi!
I hope I’m doing this right, probably not but whatever.
I’m Billie, and I’m a writer as well as an artist. Next year I will be applying to universities to do an illustration course. I recently finished my first novel, called ‘Schadenfreude’, and I’m kinda down because it’s over, but I’m cheering myself up with this challenge and I’m going to try my very best to stick to it.
Good luck everyone!
2011 Challenger: Ryan Wheaton
What’s up everyone!
My names Ryan,
IÂ am a 24 year old artist with a lack of focus and direction.
Creating characters and sticking to a deadline are two things I need to improve on. I’m hoping this challenge will push me to do both.
I like playing with new styles and trying different mediums so I am really not sure how I plan on approaching this.
If you wanna check out my sketches I’ve been drawing everyday this past  year and posting it on my sketchblog!
Best of luck to everyone!
2011 Challenger: Christina Wolfe
Hello, world!
With everything else I’ve got going on in my life, part of me thinks that signing up for something like this was a complete waste of time, but while putting all of that hullabaloo aside, I think it’s time to step out of my comfort zone and really dive into this. It’s time to take all of these characters out of my head (and dreams) and bring them to life, one day at a time.
February’s Drawi a Day is great but November’s 30 Characters Challenge takes a daily drawing regiment to a whole new level. You’re not just drawing every day, you’re creating, you’re giving your figures purpose and individuality. This isn’t fan art. It’s your art! That’s what makes this challenge awesome!
So, what will I be bringing to the table? I’ll bring a mixture of superheroes and villains, sci-fi and fantasy with a little bit of humor. Ok…so maybe a little more humor. I like creating characters out of the norm. You won’t find some all-powerful superhero with laser beam eyes and super strength in my bunch. No sir!
And there might be waffles involved. 😛
Most of my work is digital, either done through Adobe Photoshop 7 or Paint Tool Sai. On the days I won’t be home and near my trusty art machine, I guess I’ll have to bring along a sketchbook so I don’t miss a day. If missing a day of this challenge is like missing a day in an AP class, then I best prepare myself ahead of time.

2011 Challenger: Spesiria
Uuh I hope I’m doing this right. Anyway, hey!
I’m Spesiria (actually, I do have a real name, but real names are overrated), an artist/writer/history student from the Netherlands. I absolutely love coming up with stories, original worlds/universes and most of all, original characters, so this 30 Characters Challenge is a perfect way to spend my November! I have one world where all my characters live in. Having a boner for history, I thought it might be interesting to combine this challenge with some world-building and create important historical figures from that world for each day. You can expect most of my characters to be total jerks, and if you don’t like men with facial hair, you probably shouldn’t keep an eye on me.
I’m looking forward to it (also hope that I can combine it with school work, ahaha…!) and would like to wish you all the best of luck. Oh, if you want to see my work, visit my DeviantART account here.
2011 Challenger: Elizabeth Santen
Hi, there!
My name is Elizabeth (or Jynxie, as I’m called online) from California. I’m currently a student at a community college and am in the process of writing three stories, though two are still very rough even though they’ve been in the works for almost two years, now. I found this challenge through a friend on Tumblr and hopefully it’ll give be both a decent challenge and a chance to improve my artistic/writing skills! And, preferably, it’ll help me get over some writing blocks I’ve been battling for a few months, now.
Good luck and have fun, everyone!
2011 Challenger: J.G. Wither
Alright! I have no idea what I’m doing or how I’ll go about doing this, but I might as well bite the bullet and get on with it. This is my first time participating in anything such as this, as well as my first time using this website, so I’m certain to make a slew of mistakes.
There really isn’t much to say about myself other than the obvious–I’m still rather new when it comes to writing; I’ve been playing around with fictional characters and settings for about 10 years now, but have been writing seriously for only 5 or so. I’ve yet to find my niche or “thing” when it comes to fiction, and spend most of my writing time trying out new styles, themes, and whatsits. I’ll admit that I’m probably in over my head when it comes to this, but I’m hoping that this challenge will get me out of this terrible case of Writer’s Block that’s been haunting me for the past year.
Well, that’s pretty much it. Good luck to my fellow participants!
2011 Challenger: Gabe Pinto
I just heard about this the other day and thought “Hey, Gabe, you need a challenge.” So I’m gonna attempt to do this.
My name’s Gabe Pinto and I work in animation in NYC. Let’s do this thing!
2011 Challenger: Big Mike Walton/ Quasilucid
I’ve toiled as an animator, children’s book illustrator, miscellaneous illustrator, designer, art director, amateur beardsman, and comic book artist and writer. My Eisner Award-waiting, critically-ignored comic, Dual, debuted through DC Comic’s Zuda imprint in 2008.
Currently, I’m hosting an invitation-only, mini-Comic-Con at my home year round and churning out the short-story webcomic anthology False Positive:
http://www.falsepositivecomic.com
I’m ready to get my 30 Character Challenge on.
 Big Mike on twitter: @quasilucid
2011 Challenger: Sarah Alpert
I’ve always been pretty bad at introducing myself, but here goes.  I live about 4 ft above Maggie Vicknair.  I’m an aspiring comic book writer, who will be using this challenge to work on supporting characters for a series I’ve planned. I might make some side characters for other things — or my other series — if I’m really stuck.  I’m really stoked for this.  My favorite color is red.
2011 Challenger : Edgardo G. Salomon
Good day folks! I’m Edgardo G. Salomon, 2011 SCAD-Atlanta Alumni, Freelance Sequential Artist, wanderer by habit and overall nice guy from Atlanta.
On the past I’ve taken on other challenges such as the 24 Hour Comic. When I heard of this challenge, I decided to give it a try, considering that not only will it help keep the creative juices flowing, but also will help me clear my mind from some ideas that have been lingering in my head for so long and perhaps even get some projects started.
With that said, good luck to all participants and remember: This isn’t about winning or losing, but rather challenging yourself and giving it all you got, for that is the path to self-improvement.
2011 Challenger: Katrina Robertson
Oh, I’m getting all lost and confused already.
My name is Katrina but I prefer to be called Lime on the internet please/thank you. It is weird for me otherwise.  I am a freshman in a community college. I hope to transfer to an art college in a few years so I can take up animation.
I look forward to trying this out even though it is super intimidating. Most of my recent art is kept on my computer but I post some things on my tumblr every once in a while. I’ve been avoiding Deviant art all together lately but I will link it anyway. I wish everyone luck with this.

2011 Challenger: Maggie G. Vicknair
Hello there fellow challangers!
I’m a college student by day, and a — well still a college student by night, but I write comics in the middle of all that. I have a webcomic (see link below) but I won’t be using any chracters from that world, instead I hope to mine my brain for new stuff.
