#34 Coyote

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Came up with this idea on the way to work one day. WW2 gods. Norse gods would team up with Germany. Japanese gods…obvious. Roman with Italy, so the Axis is covered…what about the Allies?

Concept: I had Merlin and the Black Knight with GB, Paladin with France, and Coyote (here) with the US. There would be others, but these were the major players.

Design: Coyote is definitely Airborne, dropping in behind enemy lines. The design skews slightly modern, but you get the idea.

I did these guys as a sample for a client (not being used) & just thought I’d post them here as a farewell and thanks. They will NOT show up in the webcomic. Most likely. If you count these guys, all the animals/pets/rides and different characters/variations of the character, my 30 characters turned into 40… buh.

This challenge has been great. I’ve met some new friends, developed a crap-ton of new storylines for the webcomic, and worked my arse off like never before. I’ll admit, the first half of the challenge was more fun. I put more into the character designs and worked hard to make them in the Shattered Myth style. The second half, I wasn’t real happy with the designs. Time constraints and a lack of knowledge on some of the gods contributed to some pedestrian, very “transformers” designs. Almost every design on here will be tweaked before any of them show up in the webcomic. I’m confident in the bios and gimmicks but not the character designs.

Overall, I feel good about what I’ve done and by creating these characters and their accompanying bios, I’ve been forced to flesh out the entire world of the Mythoscape. Next year should be a fun one for Shattered Myth.

Thanks to Tyler for putting this on. Thanks for the commenters and tweets and retweets. And special thanks to all the commenters on my site who requested their favorite gods and built my 30 characters list for me. You guys rock! It’s been fun people. I’m going to go soak my drawing hand in ice water for a week. See ya next year.

#32, #33 CT and Bea

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Yeah, as promised, I’m going overboard. It’s all for a good reason, which I will announce on my site tonight at midnight.

Concept: CT and his niece, Bea, are two of the best metahuman hitmen in the world. That’s due, in part, to their special abilities: see, CT and Bea are not their names, but code names. “CT” is Chaos Theory; “Bea” is Butterfly Effect (BE).

Design: Hitman chic. Bea is around 18 years old, so she’s new to the business. Her uncle has been around for years. By the way, I hate white pants, but I liked the way this came out. Bea’s butterfly effect is internalized, while CT’s chaos power is externalized (with what looks like Kirby dots, natch!). Oh, I wanted to give Bea Chuck Taylor All-Stars, but HM didn’t have sneakers, so she’s wearing sandals for now.

Day 30 – Hard Core

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Oh yeah! You're going down!

Once a quiet historian, Hard Core found a rare alien war suit in the basement storage of the metropolitan museum he worked at.  Accidentally speaking the activation code, the suit adhered to his body, its helmet ramping up the aggression centers of his brain.  Now, he’s able to construct incredible weapons of varying types from scraps of metal around him.

#30 Kung-Fu Zombies from Outer Space

| November 30, 2010 | 1 Comment

Tribute character to the old wacky ideas I used to cook up with a friend of mine. Kung-Fu Zombies from Outer Space was a campy short film idea we had that I wrote up a script for. It never really made it past that point and I thought it would be fun to visualize one of the Kung-Fu Zombies or as I refer to them, KFZ.

~Kung-Fu Zombies from Outer Space,

Know Shaolin moves but prefer your face

Kung-Fu Zombies from Outer Space,

Think ninja zombies are a huge disgrace

Kung-Fu Zombies from Outer Space,

don’t really care how your brains taste

KUNG-FU ZOMBIES!~ (Picture that being sung by the B-52s)

The Master AI is the leader of the droids. This is its form as it would appear to other droid intelligence on the droid network. No one, not even the droids, know its true physical form.

#25 Anna “Boyhair” Boydkin

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

If you could sum up Anna Boydkin (or Boyhair to her friends for obvious reasons) in one word, it would be Emphatic.

Vegan. Feminist. Environmentalist. Pro-Choice. These are all causes Boyhair’s willing to die for. But her day job is a nurse at a blood bank. And the apathy of the people she deals with on a daily basis is really starting to urk her. When her fellow nurse made an offhanded remark about taking blood, Boyhair’s wheels started turning. They left the mall blood drive only to come back with heavy artillery & a shop vac. They’re out for blood.

Sorry, these past three have felt pretty lame. Probably my least favorite out of all of my things for this month. I started them about the second week, but kept putting them off longer & longer & I had to do them at some point so here they are. Don’t worry though, I’ve been saving some of the nicer ones to post last.

Another Blood Bank Nurse. An exchange nurse from “the old country.” There, if they can’t make their blood quota, they take it. She mentions this & plants the seed of the idea. This of course was embellishment. But she’s too cold & aloof to stop her gung ho comrades. Still her aim is quite impressive.

#30 – Shrill Ost Enforcer

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

My final character for this year’s 30 Characters challenge is the Shrill Ost Enforcer which is a new character in the world and story of Art Geek Zoo: The Way of Sound.

A celestial cousin to the Shrill Soth Ost, the Enforcer is their loyal assistant. The Enforcer is used to weaken Shrill target planets and civilizations before the Shrill move in to take over. It’s immense physicality, strength, and powers in controlling sound make the Enforcer a very tough to beat opponent.

The Enforcer was used once to attack Musica – home of the musician gholhems and mystical instruments. Ekvaren faced and fended off he/she/it and both Ekvaren and the Enforcer disappeared during the battle. The elder mystical instruments theorize they’ve become one with the universal song and it’s possible they could be brought back into physical existence by summoning them with the correct musical spell.

Number 30 disseminates information to the west coast field agents of the FBI. He specifically works in cold case and paranormal investigations.

That’s it- 30 Characters in 30 Days! Not as easy as it looks. I’ll definitely do it again next year. Follow my Twitter or visit my web page!  Now, to do something with all these characters…

#29 & 30; Weasel and; the TOAD!!!

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

These two idiots have decided long ago that beating the absolute TAR out of each other on a regular basis is exactly what each of them needs to bring HIS view of what the world should be to fruition.  The outright skull bashing that these two recieve would kill a lesser man.  These two roam the world Zebra lives in.  At one time or another, they provide Zebra with actual assistance. More often than not, these buffoons show Zebra how NOT to attack his problems.  Thusly; Zebra succeeds in his goals a LOT more than either of these two dim-witted fools EVER will!

#23 Gwen Lu

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

So I kept having this idea for a comic that was inspired by real life events. You see, I donated blood to the local blood bank. So my number was on their mailing list. But then, every couple of months, I’d get this call telling me there was going to be a blood drive at such & such place. Problem was, no one would ever introduce them self or say where they were from. So I’d have these strangers calling up & wanting my blood. The premise for this comic morphed into something where there was this extremely unsuccessful blood drive & the nurses go crazy, deciding to go out & take blood rather than wait for those to give. Because who in a mall on a Wednesday afternoon really needs their blood that badly? But it was never much more than a premise. So now I’m trying to flesh out the characters for real, so I can do this story at some point.

So this is the first of three in a series of nurses out for blood. This is Gwen. Of the three, she is the reluctant one. So instead of carting around weapons like the other two, she follows them around with a shop vac. A shop vac for all the blood. Was trying to make her look a little short & rounder to have more variety in the shapes I’ve been drawing. Although she starts out going along with the other two, she’s probably the ultimate hero of the story.

#7 The Warrior Queen

The Warrior Queen was taken from her kingdom as a slave, learned how to fight in Gladiatorial combat, broke free from her prison and came home, back to her desolated jungle kingdom to rebuild her civilization.

#29 Noah Kiemann

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Name: Noah KiemannNoah Kiemann

World: Race

Species: Human

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Bio: Noah used to be more arrogant than he is today.  In high school, he tried several times to start a relationship, but could never hold one down because of his tendency to womanize.  Upon arriving at NDU, however, things began to change.  Perhaps it was seeing so many different races together that opened his eyes to diversity, or maybe it was just a change of scenery that helped him relax.  In any case, he thinks a lot more highly of others now.  He made many good acquaintances during freshman orientation, and it was such a good experience for him that he was compelled to volunteer to be a student host for the next year’s orientation.  It was at that time that he met Nakoa and Karalún, who had both been assigned to his group.  He and Nakoa hit it off almost immediately as buddies, and he greatly admired Karalún for her conviction, courage, and sense of justice.  He’s currently a sophomore pursuing a major in Chemistry.

“What the heck is that?”

Noah looked up from his console.  “What’s what?”

“What you’re holding,” Blake clarified as he let his backpack hit the ground and pulled out a chair next to his friend.

“Oh, this.  It’s a DS.”

“Which would be…?”

Noah leaned over so Blake could see his screen.  “Sorry, it’s an old gaming console.  See, it’s a little computer made specifically for playing various games on it.”

Blake eyed the screens skeptically.  Noah seemed to be steering a small, pixelly kid along a wooded path, closely tailed by some sort of green critter.  “Hunh.  How old is it?”

“About two hundred years, according to Nakoa,” Noah answered.

“Jeez, and it still works?”

“Sure it does.  Nakoa’s got this whole huge collection of consoles that he’s repaired and rewired for power.  The battery life’s atrocious, but manageable.  I’m sure he could loan you one if you’re curious.”  Noah closed the device, leaned to his side, and dropped it into his own backpack.  “Probably not the best thing to have on in class, though.”

Blake laughed at that.  “Yeah.”

They stared off into space for a while, vaguely listening as the rest of the class filtered into the room.  It was a Friday, and people were getting chatty and excited for the weekend.  The thoughts of the two of them, however, lay elsewhere.  It was a few minutes before the silence between them was broken.

“Dude,” Noah started, “is it…weird to have the hots for someone who’s not Human?”

“Hm?”  Blake shook himself from his thoughts and looked at Noah.  “Ah, heh, you’ve got your eyes on someone?”

“Uh, well, you could say that,” the latter faltered nervously.  “I don’t know.  Is that even, like, okay?”

Blake stretched in his seat.  “I don’t see why it wouldn’t be.  Did I not introduce you to Tansei?”

Noah looked at him in confusion.  “Who?”

“Tansei.  Junior, Onka, dancer.  We’ve been seeing each other since April.  I guess I didn’t tell you, sorry.”

“Oh, hm.  Onka, though…they’re way more like us.  That’s, like, natural.”

Blake peered at Noah curiously.  “What species is she, then?”

“Jorgoan.”

“Well, hey, there’s nothing wrong with that.  You should ask her out next time you see her.”

Noah pulled back a little.  “You’re not serious, dude.”

“Sure I am,” Blake persisted.  “You won’t get anywhere if you don’t start moving.”

“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Noah sighed.  “I just hope we don’t lose the friendship we already have.”

“You’ll be okay, buddy.”  Blake placed his hand on Noah’s shoulder encouragingly.

Noah smiled a little.  “Thanks,” he replied as the bell rang.

Day 29 - Candice

Candice the neighbour

Candice is the nosy downstairs neighbor who is always watching what the girls are up to.  She will complain when they are noisy or even just talking loudly.  Her long suffering husband (#30) tries to distract her and apologies whenever she goes to far.

#30 Chris Brightstar

| November 30, 2010 | 0 Comments

Chris Brightstar is a Native American indie wrestler who currently holds the GWC heavyweight championship. He’s a bit of an anti-hero, playing the part of a face (good guy), but never getting along with other faces. He does what he wants when he wants it and so far no one has been able to stop him. He claims to be the “Bright star that wrestling needs and will turn to in the present and future.”

Day# 29 – Myrll (with writer, James S. Allen)

#29 Myrll, a Fincali female, from the novel Alien Artifacts by James S. Allen

#29 Myrll, a Fincali female, from the novel Alien Artifacts by James S. Allen

Myrll is another Character from the novel Alien Artifacts by James S. Allen. This concept sketcb took me two days to pull together this far. She is an exeptionally intelligent ‘avianoid” of the Fincali race. As you can see from the art, the Fincali evolved from bird-like creatures. In Fincali mythology it is said that upon a time, the race actually had the power of flight using their own wings.

Here is a brief excert from the author describing Stephen and Rowen, young Xenoarchaeologists, first encountering Myrll:

~~~~~
It was a Fincali.
Inside one of the glass fronted shops was an adult Fincali, pounding with both hands on the glass wall and shouting at them.  Well, not exactly shouting.  Fincali were not particularly equipped for shouting.  It was really more like wild trilling and screeching.  But for a Fincali, it was the equivalent of shouting.
As they drew near, they saw that the Fincali was wearing an envirosuit.  One of the sleeves of the suit bore the emblem of Universalis University.  The Fincali she as they were now able to distinguish by the distinctive crest of plumage that very conveniently differentiated male and female Fincali to other races – flapped her arms about wildly as they approached and then slumped against the wall and slid to the floor.
Great Goatha’s Infinite Orifices!” Stephen exclaimed.  “I hope she’s not dead.  Quick! Let’s get her out of there.”
~~~~~

Afternote: This one was really, really hard for me to draw. Large bird legs in perspective, how to get her looking natural, poised and balanced. Really tough!  In the end I simply ran out of time. Oh, and that thing in her hand is not an alien cosmetic bag its a kind of ray emitting weapon, and she’s an expert shot.

I hope you enjoy this in spite of its flaws. ;`)

It doesn’t seem so long ago

#29 The Darkling

| November 29, 2010 | 0 Comments

The Darkling exists outside of time.  He lives, surrounded by the creatures of the void, watching those who live in a straight line.  With the ability to interject into the time stream whenever he wishes, he can take control of any actions he has ever made and change them.  This gives him the power of being the most perfect being in existence because he can make sure that he always chooses the right path.  Unfortunately for him, he is prone to jealousy and morbid curiosity for those who live in one direction.  Sometimes he interferes with people out of pure malevolence, while others he helps.  Often he re experiences events just to see how they might have been different.  He ages both backward and forward at the same time, making him both infinitely young, and infinitely old.  Wrap your mind around him if you can.  Even the Darkling can’t fully comprehend himself.

#22 EPOX 1.7.2

| November 29, 2010 | 1 Comment

In the future, robots do most of the menial tasks humans used to do. And as time goes on, robots replace more obsolete models. Their indentured servitude over, the robots are free to do what they want. Most end up in robotic ghettos, isolated from humanity, but gathered amongst themselves & watching each others’ backs.

EPOX 1.7.2 is one such robot. That was until one day, when a gang of young humans came & started to beat the robots to the point of deactivation. After destroying some more helpless models, they turned their bats on EPOX. At one point, a hit in the right spot, caused EPOX to override the program that kept him from harming organic beings. And so he fought back, & when the dust settled, EPOX had survived.

His programming parameters do not give EPOX emotion, so revenge didn’t figure into the equation. But now as a robot capable of fighting back, EPOX is now the hero to the helpless robots. At least as long as he can keep himself going.
