No. 2: Piney Brat-Gobbler

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

Challenged Character No. 2: Piney Brat-Gobbler, inspired by a most conspiring-looking tree. Edward Gorey doth inspire as well. Please see entry No. 1, Fludgegrub Von Flaken, for explanation/excuse list as to why I only have my second piece uploaded. Cheers.

#22; Szadera

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

A warrior bred in captivity on the frigid tundra where Zebra also makes his home.  She is freed by Zebra eventually and joins him in his efforts to understand how their world went from a rich farm land to a frozen tundra almost overnight.  The weapons Szadera uses are crafted from wood.  She uses them with frightening accuracy and is second only to Zebra  in hand to hand skills. she is, however, much wiser and saavy than Zebra in many ways.

#14 Pizza Inspector

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

He inspects pizzas and pizza related mysteries.

I pretty much just came up with a name. Any attempts to flesh it out just got silly.

Then again, it’s a pretty silly concept, so it might work.

7 in one day. I may be back on track to finish this!

#22 Captain Sleep-O

| November 23, 2010 | 2 Comments

Captain Sleep-O was once the boy sidekick of Mr. Slide (under the name of Narcolepti-Lad) until one day, in his civilian life, he had a narcoleptic episode and fell down a flight of stairs. This led to more and more such incidents (due to his worsening disorder), and within two years he had developed multiple infections followed by severe gangrene. Amputations followed.

Now, with his new Cybernetic limbs and an improved Sleep Crown – he fights crime as Captain Sleep-O! His bionic limbs give him super-human strength along with a liquid electro-steel hand that can grab criminals just as easily as it allows him to swing around downtown Cypress City. And when he falls asleep, the crown takes over for him – its super-AI driving him to ever higher heights in the Superhero hierarchy.

#13 Gun Gator

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

Two Sword Panda vs. Gun Gator was an animated children’s film that made millions of dollars. The story involved the noble Panda and evil Gator fighting over the affections of Polly Parakeet. The movie did so well that a theme park was opened, complete with disneyland style mascots.

Well, the guy inside the panda suit and the guy inside the gator suit both fell in love with the woman in the parakeet costume, and the pretend fighting the two do for their jobs just got real.

#11 Antibodies

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

You may be wondering why I didn’t draw my character, Antibodies. The answer is simple. It’s because Antibodies is a ghost!

No, it’s not a cop out, it’s actually one of my more clever ideas.

See, antibodies is a ghost, that is to say, a soul without a body. He has curative powers, but in order to cure a body he must inhabit it, and only one soul may inhabit a body at a time. he saves peoples lives by dislodging the soul from the body and casting it into the void so he can jump in and heal. The displaced souls are rarely greatful and often confused and antagaonistic.

See? a WAY more awesome and well thought out character than you were expecting.

#10 Ambigram

Ambigram is another character who I had a cool name, and little else. I like ambigrams in general and the idea of a character who had two sides and you could rotate seemed cool.

But how to draw it?

I found a site called Kaleidosketch here: http://www.pumpkinpirate.info/ks/

It did everything I needed it to do, and also does so much more! Check it out!

#9 Perpetual Motion

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

Perpetual Motion is a superhero who can move at incredible speeds (similar to the Flash) but if she ever stops moving, even for a second, she will die.

It’s an incredibly simple concept, but could lead to some incredibly interesting stories.

#8 Sand Witch

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

Not much to say on this one, the name pretty much says it all. She’s a witch – made of sand.

Sometimes a clever name is all you need!

This is the first of SEVEN characters I did today, which should help get me closer to caught up.

#6 – The Grizzled Webcomic Vet

| November 23, 2010 | 1 Comment

Like his counterparts The Female and L’artiste, The Grizzled Webcomic Vet is a new creative aspect fighting for control of the webcomic The Apple of Discord in the power vacuum left by the abdication of the original Artist character.   Unlike the others, there’s a chance he may actually know what he’s doing.  This is not his first dance with webcomics, nor is it likely this will be his last.

See… he was there.  A different handle on a different network, but he was there when webcomics started.  He’s seen the birth of diary comics, and sprite comics, and fan comics, and gamer comics.  He’s witnessed the rise of greatness, the creation of horrible darkness, the ascension of the talentless and the descent of the gifted.

And sure, it’s left him more than a little… scarred, both physically and mentally.  He has trouble trusting people, automatically assumes everyone around him is a teenage boy, and holds himself (and others) to a standard of conduct that is probably impossible to live up to.  He likes doing things the hard way, because he believes that anything worth doing is worth doing right, and is not above silently (ok, not so silently) judging others who take shortcuts and cheat.  That doesn’t mean he isn’t an incredible ally to have with you, though – if anybody knows what’s going on, what to expect, and what needs to be done next, it’s ol’ Griz.  Motivating him to care may be hard, but once he’s committed to do something, he’ll see it through.

Don’t ask about how he lost his eye.  Here’s a hint – it was shortly after he lost his hand and had the hook installed.  Mistakes were made, lessons were learned, and one day he’s sure they’ll let him back into that McDonalds.

#12 Emil

| November 23, 2010 | 0 Comments

Natural Born Dissenter & lead singer of a superpowered rock group with a mod/Euro Left Wing Activist thing going on.

Emil could always kind of get his way, but things really started to click once he was away at University. He used his “Charisma” to gain a following of impassioned students to march & protest school policies. He was able to work them into a fever pitch. The louder he got, the more entranced & violent his followers became. Even the most docile pacifists among them. It lead to 21 deaths & a lot of injuries. Emil was institutionalized & isolated from the general patients. Now, after two years of what amounted to solitary confinement, he’s free & he’s started a band. He has his own views on the world. And he’s looking to change it. But first, he needs to get out there. He needs his voice to be heard.

#11 Udarnik

| November 23, 2010 | 1 Comment

Mysterious Drummer for a punk band with superpowers & a pretty intense political agenda.

Always sporting a balaklava, Udarnik is down with the cause, but a complete enigma. He just showed up for band practice one day & filled the role of a drummer. No questions asked. It all just worked. No one knows where he originally came from. Only that he only speaks Russian, & he has a fairly good handle on his own innate ability: time manipulation. Faster. Slower. Pausing. Occasionally even reverse somehow. He often maintains control by maintaining a rhythm. Even when he’s not behind a drumkit, you’ll see fingers tapping or hands slapping. And with his tempo, he sets the beat, & the passage of time.

He calls himself Udarnik. Of course “Udarnik” is the Russian word for Drummer.

Day 22 - The Mysterious Woman

The Mysterious Woman

Who is this woman?  Why does she keep showing up in the area?  No one seems to know who she is.  Many question whether she exists at all.  But she is real, she must be.  Someone is lying about knowing her and I’m going to find out who.

#10 Gigantopus

| November 23, 2010 | 2 Comments

Just days after mysteriously being transported from Portsburg to a strange new world…the survivors realize they’re going to need to find food to survive. They begin striking out on short exploration excursions and soon one group finds a tree that closely resembles an evergreen tree…but grows a juicy round fruit that sort of tastes like a mix between bacon and a banana.

One early morning Fin and Billy struck out to bring back a basket of the odd fruit but when they reached the patch of forest where it is found…they encountered an enormous octopus who was gorging itself on the fruit.  Noting that the monster, which on earth is obviously lives only in water, seemed quite comfortable and happy to be walking and eating on land, Fin and Billy quickly high-tailed it back to the lab to report on their findings. Gigantopus, as Billy called it, did not seem aggressive or violent but upon that first encounter there wasn’t much intensive to stick around and make friends.
