Or Lucifer...whatever

Hello, my Beautiful Angel.

This old photograph was found in the attic of one Amelia, angelheart. its origins are unknown but the fact that even though the photograph has aged and dulled in color the rose still stays red. Amelias grandmother, will say nothing more about the mysterious man in the photograph other than “He’s the Devil.”

Day 7: Chicky Boom

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

Chicky was never good at anything except causing a scene.  Always getting in trouble and causing problems.  She was sent to juvenile detention as a teen & that’s where her talents were discovered. A “recruit” came through the detention centre one day to find qualified teens to participate in a new government program.  It was a program where the delinquents would be rehabilitated and basically brainwashed into becoming lethal, human weapons for the government.  Chicky was found to be a bomb expert.  She gets dolled up as a distraction and she always gets her job done.

#3. Space Pirate Alustar!

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments
Space Pirate Alustar!

He's totally a hero...at least in his own mind.

Self-proclaimed “space pirate” Alustar Aralune  is the commander of the Havoc Queen, a freight-class vessel named after Alustar’s long-lost love. Drifting through space looking for exotic space!treasure, Alustar has made a name for himself as a reckless and brave captain. He has made as many enemies as friends in his long career. He also has an extremely high opinion of himself.

That’s where the “self-proclaimed” part comes in: Alustar is not really a pirate, and his past heroism is largely imagined. He is in fact a traveling junk dealer and scavenger. The Havoc Queen is not a grand pirate ship. It is in fact a run-down cargo cruiser that is both cheap and hard to maintain. The Queen is crewed by the Howitzer Twins: zealously loyal navigator Tanis and occasionally loyal engineer Sylas. Now Alustar is in search of the greatest treasure he can think of: the original Havoc Queen herself, Alustar’s fugitive ex.

#7 – The Vibe

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

Aaron Leslie Hines never knew he was special, until the very day he became involved into a gang war that alerted Blindsight’s Team, and was almost beaten up by Xroma because he seemed to have snuck up behind her, and refused to answer her questions.

The point is: Aaron is not only deaf from birth, he is also a mutant living completely in a world without sound. His power is that a special vibration pattern of his body prevents Aaron from creating any sound. If he hits a table, no sound can be heard. He cannot talk, not even cough audibly.

However, his shoes DO create a sound on the floor, but still muffled by his powers. But still, since he was deaf anyway, Aaron never even suspected he had any powers at all.

Impressed by the team’s efforts in the gang war, he agrees to aid the team, which is made possible by Neverminds telepathy, which enables him to communicate with the team.

An accomplished freeclimber, Aaron takes over the part of reconaissance.

He uses an array of different projectiles and slings/slingshots as weapons.

Aaron calls himself “The Vibe” for reasons of irony mainly, but also as a diversion from the nature of his powers. Like most of the team, he tries not to give away too much about his powers so that his weaknesses cannot be exploited.

He’s also the one who suggests the team should have a name. Blindsight is against that, and when Aaron is asked why he wants a team name, his answer is the handsign for “family”.

Dedicated and loyal, The Vibe is a true teamplayer, and shows no signs of fear.

#6: Jack “Slim” Pickens

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

Running a bit behind this weekend, but here’s my entry for yesterday (more to come later); #6, Jack ‘Slim’ Pickens! He’s from the same world as previous entries Rusty Palmer and Linda McKibben, so read up kids!

Franklin Row is the kind of city that you come to die in.

There ain’t no promotions here, there ain’t no money, no tree lined streets, and there sure as shit ain’t no future. But it’s alright. Every day I walk into the Dine-o-rama with it’s broken neon lights and creaky door. They call me Slim, some sorta irony I guess considering how much god damn food I eat.

Anyhow, every day I walk in to eat and see Cindy. I ain’t got no wife, no kids, not even siblings. I wake up alone, I shower alone, I talk alone. And for a fat old fart like me, it’s likely I’ll die alone. But Cindy makes sure that I ain’t ever gonna dine alone. Every single day I walk in for my breakfast at around 8 or 9 PM (night shift’s a bitch), and Cindy is always ready for me. There’s a crap load of other regulars too, but she always makes the special effort to talk with me about… well, anything she can drudge up, really. I ain’t got much to talk about. Workin’ security for an office building ain’t much to speak of when ain’t nothin’ happens. Even if it did, I’m too old and too out of shape to chase anybody.

You’d think I’d be a miserable sack a shit, if you were gonna read my life out loud on paper, but I promise I ain’t. I guess you could say I had it tough as a kid, first with my parents up and dyin’ and then the foster care systems bein’ as bad as they were back then. I ain’t ever left the Row, and I’m too damn old to start now. I’ve accepted my role in this life, perhaps in the next things will turn out different.

A lot of that acceptance does come from Cindy, I s’ppose, being as she’s always ready with my five eggs, over easy, home fries with ketchup, OJ, coffee light and sweet, buttered corn muffin, and five strips of bacon, but patted down with a paper towel to get rid of that extra grease. It don’t take much to satisfy me, and a meal like that is a surefire way to get me ready for my day. My shift usually ends ‘bout 9 AM, but I never go to the Dine-o-Rama for dinner. They ain’t servin’ steaks and such that early in the mornin’. The owner, Ralph Parcell, says I’m such a good customer that he don’t mind bendin’ the rules for me a bit, but I don’t want to put him through no trouble.

It’s at night — well, morning for everybody else — that I wish I had somebody. Not even a lover or nothin’, just a friend. Or sister or somethin’. Somebody to shoot the shit with. For a city that ain’t had any crime in years, it’s amazing how nobody here gets along. I share the same counter at the diner with five other fellas that I known for years, but ain’t one of us have anything in common with one another ‘cept for Cindy.

It’s alright though. I know my time’s coming, and I’m looking forward to it. I ain’t gonna end it early or nothin’, so don’t get any ideas, but I look forward to what the Lord or whoever has got in store for my next go-round. Hopefully I don’t wind up back in Franklin Row. Until then though, at least I know that I got the best damn eggs on the east coast waitin’ for me fresh every morning.

#7 – Sub-Dude

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

A man who is very quiet, but serious about his job…. the SUB-DUDE! Forget the t-shirt gun: This guy shoots submarine sandwiches out of his gun. While he has provided many-a-fan with a nice little snack, he has also put out several scoreboards and pasted a picture of the Queen with a mayonnaise dirty Sanchez moustache! Stay hungry my friend!

Day 7 Fenri

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

I’ve got your scent, tracking you through The Hollow, you can’t escape me. You may not be my prey but I can’t let you escape me. You try to lose me in Muck Bottom, but I played here as a pup, silly mortal. Then you turn through the Shade Forrest, now we enter my home lands. Here I used to be the alpha of my pack till the day Tummel called me to his service. There is no where you can hide here, even with your magics. You break into a run across the Twilight Plains, here line of sight is all I need. You’ll not escape me.

At least till you enter the Dungeons of Unrest, I dare not enter that cursed place. I am Fenri, tracker of the Unwaking Lands and protector of Shade Forrest, and here I will be waiting for you.

Fenri is a character from Grim Furry Tales series. In the series Laurel Matthews awakens ancient gods trapped in small cloth bodies. These gods were hiding from agents of the Unrest who sought to consume them. As with all belief it is shaped by perception and the view of little Laurel Matthews turns them into Stuffed Animals. Now these might gods in stuffed animal bodies must struggle against the Unrest to save their homeland and the mortals of the Lull from its all consuming progress.

#7 – “Speed” Dom Peter

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments
Day 8 - Dom Peter

"Speed" Dom Peter of the Mechanic Squad

Dom Peter imagines himself a proper gentleman, but he is far from it.  He was raised on a cow farm and is poorly educated but he will try to convince you otherwise.  If anyone should make him look like a fool (an easy task) he will challenge them to a duel and then attack before his opponent has a chance to respond.  He says he manages the Mechanic Squad, although you’d be hard pressed to find him doing any work.

#3 Jolly Jim

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

Ho ho ho...Mother$%^&%$#@

Jolly Jim is anything but, he was kicked out of The Toy shop for attempting to set the old mans cookie jar on fire.

He now lives in the recesses of a cavern in the North Pole making twisted toys that deliberately drive adults mad. *He has some height issues and blames grown ups for it. Don’t ask me I’m just the Narrator*

He has become somewhat of a Boogey-Man at the N.P. with the younger elfs being told that they sould stay in line lest they end up like Jolly Jim.

And it is said on the lonely nights between Christmas & New years if you listen closely you can hear the bang of a wooden hammer and the tinkling laugh of a madman alone in his cave…

#6 – L.U.N.A.R. Computer

| November 7, 2010 | 0 Comments

The original Solar lab computers, much like most other computers in the world in the early 80s, were nothing more than room sized calculators.  Using the standard Vector Processing (that is a central CPU that delegated processing tasks to multiple processors then later organizing the resulting data) the computers built for Dr. Hannes were running at a basic (for it’s time) processing speed of of 1.1 GigaFLOPS (or 1.1 billion calculations per second). When the U.S. Government was brought in to fund and secure Dr. Hannes’ work, a team of scientists and engineers was also brought in to assist in the research.  Within this group was a team led by Irish computer engineer Jonathan O’Colvin, PhD.  O’Colvin began right away rebuilding the entire computer system.  Six months later, the LUNAR Computer was complete.

The LUNAR Computer is a self aware, highly adaptive Multi-Quantum processor SuperComputer capable of speeds theoretically up to 1.5 zettaFLOPS (that is 1.5 octillion calculations per second).  That speed is stated as theoretical because the only way to provide enough power to operate the computer at full will be when the solar energy converter is actually activated. Operated on the Portsburg power grid, LUNAR can only function at approximately 50% of its full capacity.  The computer has a single core which resides at the center of the SOLAR Lab and is networked to most of the compatible computers in the Solar Lab building as well as the entire uPAST campus via a small wireless chip that is attached to each CPU.

O’Colvin has programmed the one of a kind system with an adaptive form of artificial intelligence.  Upon it’s initial boot the system was nothing more than a very large, very fast computer. As time has progressed, LUNAR has become self aware and is learning more and more each day.

When fully functional LUNAR will also operate and maintain the connection between all three SECT (Solar Ejection Collection and Transmission) satellites that are in a geosynchronous orbit above the SOLAR Lab.

#6 – Seaborne

| November 7, 2010 | 1 Comment

Seaborne may look a bit odd, he’s one of a very small group of amphibians located off the remote coasts of Papua New Guinea. Resembling a shark and a half grown tadpole, these creatures have a long rich history in the Arafura Sea and surrounding waters. Evolving before modern humans, Seaborne’s people were the first to establish a method to record speech, however, their obvious inability to create fire prevented them from developing as quickly as humans. Thousands of years ago, they made their way out of the water, but following many skirmishes with the then highly violent human race, they chose to retreat to the water where they live today in smaller numbers but in relative peace. Occasionally one can find small, non-permanent, settlements along the southern coast of New Guinea, near the Coral Sea.

#6 Merrin Oakheart

| November 7, 2010 | 1 Comment

The piercing clang of metal upon metal could be heard throughout the encampment. Slow cookfires lit the ground with an amber hue. Dirt and dust alike jumped into the air as Merrin Oakheart readied her back foot and held her sword vertically solid. The slick sage skin of her arms glistened against the moonlight.

Her attacker was twice her size and thrice her ferocity. He swung his arms behind his head notching his great longsword, the blade glinted in the orange hue. Gregor Marshborn was an uninviting sight, ugly and bulbous. His eyes often twitched without reason and he stank of rotting crickets, a pipe dangled from his mouth adding to his noxious perfume. Gregor charged Merrin and with a thunderous croak brought his weapon down overhead in a menacing arc. Merrin deftly parried the strike and twirled to her left, slapping Gregor in the back of the thigh with the flat of her blade. Gregor yelped in immediate, sharp pain as Merrin took no time for humor and gripped the hilt of her sword in a defensive stance.

“Grah! You are a quick thing, are you not girl?” Gregor snarled at Merrin, brandishing her gender as a weapon just as smithed steel.

“Quicker than you.” Merrin quipped. The pair had now taken to circling one another, their gaze intensely locked. The cookfires that surrounded them made dancing reflections in Merrin’s eyes. Merrin studied Gregor, his clumsy yet deliberate steps, his constant pauses revealed his wont to rush her once more. He was a bullfrog, this was apparent, but she was too graceful to be struck down by such an obvious rush. She stopped her circling path, baiting the colossal Marshborn.

Gregor again charged at Merrin, holding his longsword at his hip with both hands, tensing his muscles. His pipe dropped from his mouth and he again croaked, even more ferociously than before. Merrin waited until the brute was within an arm’s reach and dropped to the ground, her small frame made minuscule. Gregor was too large and too slow-witted to stop his locomotion and he rumbled past the agile girl. Merrin sprung to her feet and with surprising might brought the hilt of her blade down on the back of Gregor Marshborn’s head, knocking him to the ground in a dizzy spill. Merrin sheathed her sword and knelt down beside the fallen giant.

“Who is teaching who here, Gregor?” Merrin said with a light to her words.

Gregor rolled onto his back in a slow and laborious turn. Once on his back, he let out a breath and rubbed his pounding head.

“You are fortunate I like you, Oakheart,” Gregor spat. “But do not mistake me for a dullard. Your jests have no place on the field of battle.” His voice was low and his tone hard.

Merrin extended a hand to Gregor. “Noted. Do you think me ready to join the battalion? Will you recommend me to my Uncle?” She had a twinge of optimism to her words.

Gregor slapped away Merrin’s trifling hand and erected himself with a struggle. When finally he stood, Merrin was once again intimidated. She raised her chin and broadened her shoulders, a convincing image she hoped. He smiled at this, and patted her on the head dismissively. “You are just a girl, Merrin. Girls cook, tend to the wounded, mend our cloaks. They do not fight under the banner of Greenrock. I am merely humoring you at your Uncle’s command. He has more than just a crown weighing down his mind.” Gregor said flatly, with no effort to spare Merrin’s feelings.

“But Greenrock needs swords! And mine is better than half the men who ride!” Merrin pleaded.

“Aye, this is true, but your Uncle king forbids it. Best if you accept this, Merrin.” Gregor said as he brushed the debris from his chest.

“No, Gregor. I will not.” She mounted a nearby hitched sparrow hawk and kicked at its sides. The bird’s wings flapped in response, hoisting it and Merrin upward. Brown and grey feathers fluttered about.

“My Uncle will hear my voice. I will fight for Greenrock like my father and his father.” Merrin proclaimed. “Girl or not.”

The bird thrashed its wings with vigor and soared over the tree-line, into the black night sky.

Gregor shook his head, “Never have I seen someone in such a rush to die.”

#8 The Seraph

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

Yet another old character of mine that is finally seeing the light of day. This one, until now, existed as a name on a piece of paper proving once again that no idea dies if you’re a hoarder of paper (and as a comic reader/creator, I am totally a paper hoarder).

Concept: The Saint meets The Equalizer. Former USMC, Vietnam vet (aged in real time, he’d be in his late 50’s/early 60’s) employed by the church to help anyone whose problems can’t be solved by prayer. Now, this is the unique angle; his employers are every church in town. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist…all of them. He is non-denominational, and may, in fact, be agnostic, in order to best serve the folks he’s hired to help.

Design: There’s not much to this. Suit, tie, typical detective stuff. The only real distinguishing characteristics are his hair color (a Bob Ross happy accident if ever there was one) and his tie pin.

EDIT – I finally remembered his alter ego!  It’s Grant Mason (a play on Simon TEMPLAR, get it?)

#5 The Guillotine Armor

| November 7, 2010 | 3 Comments

During the Cold War, the U.S. government wanted to create a weapon that can be used by a single soldier behind enemy lines.  This would limit endangering numerous soldiers in the battle field and reduce the need for air and ground support.  The thought process at that time, was to give a single soldier enough weapons and firepower to hunt and kill the enemies’ leaders and hope that would end the confrontation.   What they came up with was called The Guillotine Project.

After many failed attempts to perfect the weapon, the U.S. government enlisted the help of  Algernon Corporation.  The result was a mechanical armored suit that can be piloted be a single person.  The Guillotine Armor went through several modifications and several pilots.  The Armor was equipped with all of the latest technology and weapons but was never able reach it’s full potential because the pilots were unable to control the armor effectively.  Many of the pilots have developed disorders as a result of operating the Armor.

The Guillotine Armor required too much energy, a capable pilot, and the resources of over 20 people in a control center to be able to be fully functional.  Deemed combat ineffective,  The Guillotine Project was shut down and the armor was stored a military base until a better solution  for the project can found in the future.

Recently, the Guillotine Armor was stolen by Aaron Tate.

Aaron Tate was a black ops soldier, who a few years ago went mad and starting killing men on his team.  He was a sergeant on Thomas Blake’s  team.  Though his body was never found, Tate was believed to have died in an explosion.

It is unknown how Aaron Tate is operating the Guillotine Armor but he is using it the destroy Algernon Corporation’s research facilities.  After a few failed attempt to retrieve the Guillotine Armor back, the U.S. government has asked for the help of Thomas Blake, hoping that this past friendship with Aaron Tate would help lead them back the Armor.

#4 Demonique: Hell on Wheels

| November 7, 2010 | 5 Comments

In the 60’s, a French driver tore up the European auto-racing standings; a woman named Monique DeVitesse. Some said her talent was almost unholy, as she coldly left her top competitors in the dust. That was until a tragic accident during the ’68 Monaco Grand Prix when DeVitesse’s pit crew decided to try a new grade of fuel. The flames were intense. So intense, no one thought twice when little trace of a body was found.

Now there are rumors that DeVitesse (or someone… or something bearing her likeness) is back. And looking to reclaim the top of the racing ranks. Some claim that the only difference between the Monique of yesteryear, & this new, ominous one, are the retractable horns & tail. With the help of her demonic cherub pit crew that appear & disappears in puffs of acrid black smoke, the Hell on Wheels racing team is looking for a few trophies. And souls.

Fallen pretty behind on account of some busy days I had in a row, but I’m not out yet. I’ll try to catch up as soon as I can. Thanks for the response! Digging what I’ve seen when I’ve been checking the site.

To say Commander Duri is a woman not to be trifled with is an understatement. Commander Duri is a fierce woman who takes very little guff from anyone. Serving as the space station site lead, Commander Duri is the one in charge of overseeing military operations. While she never wavers in her heavy-handedness, there are some rumblings around the station that her loyalty may be a different story.

Meet Automeris- Heroine. Pilot. Flapper Girl.

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

I wanted to create a pulp-styled hero along the lines of The Spirit & The Green Hornet (basically guys in suits wearing masks), but I wanted to add a unique twist. I hope an aeroplane-flying flapper girl is unique enough. At 3.5 hours, this is the most time I’ve spent on a character, not including research. Again, flipped through Wikipedia for inspiration and came across the Io Moth (Automeris Io)

#6 Ecce Homo by Titian

| November 7, 2010 | 2 Comments

I’m not going to lie to you — this one is a little weird. The reason for this is that before the challenge started, I pulled a bunch of adjectives and nouns that I liked out of the dictionary and assigned them each a number. Before I do a new character, I use a random number generator to pick the adjective and noun that is going to describe that character. Hence, some of these are a tad absurd. So, moving on:

Criminals of Vienna, Beware! Though by day Ecce Homo by Titian is a simple painting hanging on the walls of a museum, but night he uses his extensive knowledge of painting technique to help the VPD hunt down the vicious serial killers of Northeastern Austria. Though his beautiful brunette police contact is often skeptical of his ability to solve crimes using knowledge of chiaroscuro, impasto, and the like – He always gets his man…or lady.

Day# 07 Growl, Rain’s Dog

#07 Growl, (#6) Rain's Dog, by Jande Rowe

#07 Growl, (#6) Rain's Dog, by Jande Rowe

And Growl makes three. Rain’s little pet, Growl.   Part this and part that –maybe even Wolf, ya think? Rain found Growl when he was a puppy, wandering at the side of a busy highway, and rescued him from certain death. The two have been together ever since. Rain’s family were alarmed by how huge Growl ended up growing, but were happy to have him in the family. They’ve grown used to him now, but there has always been something strange about Growl, something… almost unearthly.

Luckily the family never resorts to corporal punishment, or their lives may not be worth the cost. Growl is supremely protective of Rain. Nobody, but nobody messes with Rain.

Drawn in Manga Studio Ex4, then Photoshopped a bit. I added Rain so that you could see how big Growl is. Rain’s attitude has changed slightly from his debut picture. If I had Growl as a friend, mine would too.  ;`)

Someday the three of them, Sarah Sorry (#5), Rain Reeves (#6), and Growl, will have some interesting urban adventures together.

Enjoy!
