#3; Zebra

| November 3, 2010 | 4 Comments

Zebra is the smaller character in this image. He’s doing battle with a giant fire salamander.  Zebra is a race I created called the; “Ironmare”.  They are a race from the world setting that Zebra exists within. The Ironmare are incredibly agile and able to leap extremely high and run very fast.  They are naturals at hand to hand combat and Zebra is a well trained swordsman.

I have a few stories slated about him but nothing sequential as of yet.

#1 Victor X (Victor Vector)

| November 3, 2010 | 2 Comments

Created by the cutting edge machines of the future, as a nostalgic nod to the Computers of the past, this psychotic robot has the split personality within his retro exterior. His plastic overlay shows a happy creature. This overlay hides Victor’s darker side, Victor’s “Vector X…..!!!1!!!!!”

This was created using Inkscape the fantastic and still FREE Adobe Illustrator alternative. This is still a work in progress, the final version will be a lot crisper, he just took far too long to create.

30 Characters Challenger: Anthony Jarrett (atombat)

Zed Hex Spectrum Robot

Hi, I’m atombat, I found out about the 30c in 30d challenge last year through Twitter, I think it was a retweet? It sounded like a fantastic challenge, I was really happy to finish the challenge along with some other really talented people. For most of my life I’ve created hundreds of new and exciting characters, so the 30c30d challenge sounded perfect. I currently live in England, I don’t have a fulltime job, but I try to do as much freelance work as possible, I’ll be using these 30days to brainstorm many new ideas to fill out my portfolio, and force myself into character creating Nirvana. or just drawing a lot to stop my self going mad. Last year my Zed Hex 30c30d character went on to sell 15 t-shirts and some birthday cards at Redbubble, also the design will possibley be included in a 200 page book early next year, through the “Works for Publication” group at Redbubble. I’ve had 100 Zed Hex postcards printed by a local Leeds printshop called onthewall. Also, I will be making posters and T-Shirts using the characters I create this year. Most of the links to my T-Shirts/Poster designs, plus more of my artwork can be found on my website atombat.com

Good luck to all.

#2 Kannon & Ichi

| November 3, 2010 | 8 Comments

Inspired by watching the trailer for Seijun Suzuki’s Pistol Opera, this is Kannon, who can only be described as a Geisha Gun Witch, I guess. A natural markswoman (marksperson?), it is rumored that at any one moment, she’s carrying an arsenal large enough to outfit a full battalion. To some, it’s downright impossible, almost supernatural. What only supports these claims is her unspoken bond with a large, hellish, blind wolf simply called Ichi. Some claim it’s not a pet, but a familiar as the ominous canine often acts as her ears & nose. Not so much eyes. Working mostly as an assassin, clients find that she picks & chooses her jobs for reasons unrelated to money. Everyone has their own theories about her shrouded past, but at the end of the day, they all share the same uneasy feeling in her presence.

I got carried away with this, as posting this late can attest to. I got too into adding details that are ultimately hard to see in this scan, like barbed wire weaved into her hair & bandoleers wrapped around her obi. Even speed loaders faceted onto a ribbon she wears around her shoulders. And it’s probably something everyone already gets but her name comes from the Japanese Bodhisattva of Mercy. I’m going to get a little more done with my #3 (though if I wanted to cheat, I’d count the wolf), & then come back, clean this up, & add some colors on this one. So maybe check back if you remember. I’m thinking when I reach 30, I wanna composite all of them together in a big crowd shot.

Refined vagabond detective.

#2 Corsair

| November 3, 2010 | 2 Comments

CORSAIR
Corsair is exactly what he looks like: a rouge, smuggler, gambler, of the new world where petrol is the most precious substance in existence.

NOTE:
I’ve always had a yearning to pay homage to that oh so successful of scifi movie franchises by re-crafting it in a Dieselpunk style.  More to come on this concept/project….

#3 Archimedes Crumb

I am really trying not to specialize any character types or genres… Whatever comes to me in my sketchbook is what gets delivered to you, daily… I’m also trying not to work ahead… But I will have to, to keep my weekends free with my wife.

#3 Twins of Ruel

| November 3, 2010 | 12 Comments

Lords of a lost empire, the Twins, as they are called about court, arrived in Hold on a mission they’ve shared with none. From their arrival on twin white stallions, they have done little more publicly than attended the evening balls at court, quietly watching the dancers from a distance. They remain silent as to their origins, though, by their demeanor and garb they hold a station of nobility. They harbour an outward distaste towards the Fae of Hold, something the Princess Lorne finds perplexing.

The Ruel Twins wear matching yet reverse-worn clothing, have opposing parted hair styles, and weild matching long swords of the finest craftsmanship. Their stallions – their only possessions save small field packs, are of a breed not seen in the lands of Hold. Their emerald dress is wholly alien in the northern Dominance, as the fashion has ever been of greys and browns, with the nobility wearing white and blues.

Whisperers have mentioned seeing the twins spending odd hours by the streams around Hold. Rumours of the twins performing strange rituals swirl about the townships. One thing is certain, there is a strange fire in their eyes and their secrets are something Chondra Flicker has been tasked to discover.

Day 2: Evans

| November 3, 2010 | 0 Comments

Decided to create some friends for Day 1’s Sebyn, starting with the obligatory love interest, Evans!  She lives on the opposite end of the village from Sebyn, only venturing to his neck of the woods to have meetings with her father’s business clients.  Her parents own one of the largest general stores in town and are very active in the community.  Evans has a good head on her shoulders, but is a little naive about the true circumstances and feelings of those less fortunate than her.  She feels like a normal kid, but tends to get shunned by her peers because they assume she is just a pompous brat.  Her mature lack of concern for their spite further cements their opinion of her.

Sebyn knows Evans from her many trips to visit the shopkeeper he works for.  He will make any excuse to work when he hears that she’ll show up.  Evans is always kind and Sebyn has made it his personal goal to make the other kids realize that.

Anyway, Evans is a perky and bright young gal who doesn’t know it yet but will probably have very big dreams soon!  (Perhaps of the adventure variety WHO KNOWS!)

Minor character for my graphic novel, Inscribing Ardi.

#2 Max

| November 3, 2010 | 1 Comment

Max is a somewhat mysterious individual. He shows up at cons – sci-fi cons, horror cons, fan cons – always dressed as an old-school vampire. At least, we think it’s a vampire. He doesn’t say much, and keeps mostly to himself. He’s no fan of the sparkly “Twilight” vamps, or even the hip “True Blood” or even “Buffy” or “Lost Boys” bloodsuckers. No, Max kicks it old school. WAY old school. Like, “Nosferatu” old school. Come to think of it, is Max even his real name? Nobody has gotten close enough to him to find out….

#2 Metabolism

| November 3, 2010 | 5 Comments

Metabolism has been endowed with a hyper metabolism system that allows him to take on the physical properties of anything he eats – but only for about an hour or so. When faced with a gang of hoodlums, it’s not uncommon for Metabolism to chew up an entire street and lay them out like asphalt. The citizens still talk about the time he saved the New Year’s celebration by ingesting the Countdown Ball and flattening a group of terrorists with it.

Just… just don’t be around when he’s gotta… you know. Quick metabolism and all…

#3 trent

trent and his computer link mobius. trents invincibility comes from a “twin” node. in essence he can only be killed in the same general space at the same time and the same way as the other node justifed individual. it doesnt mean he cant be put in extreme pain or cemented away for centuries

#2 – The Bathroom Attendant

| November 3, 2010 | 4 Comments

The Bathroom Attendant

Artist: Tommy Patterson

Character Creator: Michelle Patterson

Bob the Bathroom Attendant has always been different and in many ways meant for this profession that, by nature, chose him.

Bob is a happy guy with a cheery disposition. He has black hair that is finely trimmed in a very neat and tidy way. He is wearing a black three piece suit, with a tie as do all the fine Bathroom Attendants. Bob is a bit different however; in place of hands, Bob has clean white towels hanging from the wrists of his suit sleeves with fringe on the edges; protruding from the zipper of his pants you will see a toilet paper holder with a spool of toilet paper on it (a few sheets dangling down). When you look at Bob’s kind face you will see an anomaly of a different sort; Bob has a push button and spout dispenser for soap where his nose should be (dripping of course) and on his tie, which is hanging loose you see the word SOAP written vertically with an arrow pointing up.

#3 Blowfish

| November 3, 2010 | 8 Comments

The Blowfish emits a neurotoxin through his razor sharp spines. If he puts enough pressure into his ‘puff’ he can expel the neurotoxin out of the spines into the air as fine mist! And YES, I revealed the name of another character to make his debut this month — the evil uberscientist, Professor Neutrino! (I’m feelin’ my inner Stan Lee taking over!) 🙂

#3 Shock Jock

| November 3, 2010 | 0 Comments

This concept narrowly edged out my footwear inspired character "Sock Jock".Radio DJ by night, superhero by day, Shock Jock may save your life with his electricity powers, but that doesn’t mean you will agree with any of the reprehensible filth he spouts on the airwaves!

In every sense of the word, he will shock you!

#3 Jeffery Caldwell

| November 3, 2010 | 0 Comments

Name: Jeffery Caldwell
Species: Human
Age/Sex/Race: 27/Male/White
Main Goal: Get a home somewhere safe and far away from Custwood.
Occupation: Tinker/Gunsmith/Binder of Demons
Motivation: Survival, making ends meet.
Inner Need: Safety, security, and acceptance.
Flaw: Cowardice, meekness, slightly impulsive.
Good/Bad Habits: Is very neat and orderly, is very patient and has good manners. Too submissive, somewhat withdrawn.
Secret: Desperately wants a wife and family of his own, but is too scared to talk to women.
Skills, Knowledge, Props: Highly skilled in crafting mechanical devices and powering them with bound demons. College education. Good shot with a wheel gun.
Quirks: Makes sure his wheel-gun and spectacles are either on him or within arms reach at all times.
Attitude: Shy, slightly gloomy
Dialogue Style: Stutters occasionally, speaks quickly and uses several impressive vocabulary words.
Backstory/Description: Jeffery Caldwell was too young to remember when his father Graham brought him to live in the town of Brilim deep in the heart of Custwood, the haunted province. Jeffery grew up working in his father’s inn and tavern being pushed around by drunken patrons and steeped in all the tales of vicious monsters that haunted the forest at night, stories that were horribly true. When Jeffery reached adulthood, his father sent him to the city to study engineering and demon-binding at a university, since it was the most lucrative profession and there were plenty of demons in the woods. Jeffery learned well, and when he came back he made a workshop of his room and crafts various weapons and tools to sell to support the inn. The use of bound demons, however, requires that he replenish his supply from time to time, which means venturing out into the woods at night, which he logically dreads. He crafted his own demon-powered wheel gun, a weapon that fires large metal projectiles, as a means of defending himself when he ventures into the woods twice a month.

Well, this picture was interesting… Sort of an experiment with lighting and very poorly lit environments. I think it turned out pretty well, considering I have never attempted anything of the sort. Anyway, what really interests me is the world this guy lives in. I imagine it as sort of a mish-mash of the Wild West, your standard fantasy setting, a little modern, and a little colonial times. Very interesting combination. I’ll do at least one character in this setting.

#3 Shadow Fox II

| November 3, 2010 | 0 Comments

Due to the comments on Shadow Fox, I decided to create Shadow Fox’s sidekick: Foxy. He’s currently the new Shadow Fox, and is frustrated with his predecessor for striving to continue his superheroic activities in his old age.
