#1 – Mindy: the pregnant chick at the dance club

| November 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

It is my pleasure to present Mindy: the pregnamt chick at the dance club.

About 5 monhts ago, Mindy left her apple-tini on the bar so she could go on the dance floor with her friends.  After grooving and grinding to “I Like to Move It, Move It” with some random guy, she got thirsty.  She went back to the bar and spotted her drink… still sitting there.   She chugged it down and ran back onto the dancefloor to grind on some other random guy to “Dancing Queen”.  Then, she blacked out.   You would think it would bother Mindy when she woke up 14 hours later, half naked, bent over a dumpster, and pregnant.  Instead, Mindy decides to ignore that completely and continues to wear her tight club clothes to the bar so she can grind on random men.

Mindy doesn’t believe in maternity clothes.  She feels that there is nothing wrong with pants that are so tights they cut off the circulation to your vagina.  While Mindy is careful not to drink or smoke while she is with child, she doesn’t see anything wrong with “percolating” on the dance floor, in hopes that she can attract a guy who’s willing to get freaky, later on that night.

PS:  I’m a writer -  I can’t draw.  This is the best i can do.  Don’t say I didnt warn you!  😉

#1 – The Cook

The Cook

Artist: Tommy Patterson

Character Creator: Michelle Patterson

She is standing next to a stove (corner w/oven window in full view). Rotund woman about 45, pleasant, plump face with what would appear to be dimples and rosy cheeks with her big smile. Her hair is up in nice, neat curls but sticking out in a few spots are frizzled wisps, some straight, some twisty. She has her right hand resting on the corner of the oven holding the door shut; she has in her left hand a large meat cleaver and is using the back of her hand to wipe away beads of sweat from her forehead. The cook is wearing a classic moo moo gown white with a Cherry pattern all over it that extends down to her knees. She is also wearing a black apron that is bunched up just below her somewhat large breasts, yet above her large belly. The apron extends down to mid-thigh and is adorned with the words “Kiss Me, I’m the Cook” in white. She has on a pair of black house shoes with small white bows on them. Her look is that of the kind lady next door that gives out cookies to all the neighborhood kids. Which is in fact what she does, just don’t ask her whats in them.

In the view of the oven window, you can see the half face of a teenage boy in a pan.

#1 The Blind Guardian

| November 1, 2010 | 10 Comments

The Blind Guardian is a clone originally developed by his masters to guard the mammoth underground prisons of Morgus Kaior. Developed to instill fear in any unfortunate enough to be imprisoned here, the Blind Guardian is ruthless and careless. He uses a form of sonar to see. His masters reasoned that a prison full of guards with no eyes makes for an even less personal imprisonment as no eye contact can ever be made. The Blind Guardian have been known to be used for other purposes as well. Valued for their cruelty, but staunch loyalty, they are often used to guard the riches of wealthier nobles, and crazier mages who might be willing to keep a Blind Guardian in ones keep.

#1 Dan Slade is… The STEEL F.I.S.T.

| November 1, 2010 | 7 Comments

Just wanted to briefly say that I’m super-psyched for the 30CC!

I settled on a Public Domain Superhero called THE STEEL FIST for my 1st character. I love these public domain characters and I thought let’s give him a remodel.

Daniel Slade is an International playboy and gambler by day. He is also a commander and top agent of F.I.S.T.: a global secret agency dedicated to bringing high-tech justice to evildoers and crime syndicates who would undermine our shiny plastic democracies! Dan is seemingly felled by diabolical minions of DIRECTOR: GOLGOTHA and his JET HARPIES- crashing his private party jet into Mt. Vesuvius while attempting “The STARDUSTER IMPERATIVE”, saving Italy from destruction. F.I.S.T. technocrats save the near-dead Slade and rebuild him with the most futuristic limb/organ cloning and cyborg technology known in the year 1976! Now equipped with his Atomic-Steeloidinium Cyborgarm, and other improvements, Dan Slade is… The STEEL F.I.S.T.!

#1 Generic G.I.

Sorry for not creating an original character on day 1.Though I did draw this today with the challenge in mind.  This is mainly an overall design for some generic special ops soldiers I have in an upcoming  comic I’m working on.  Heavily reffed from counter-strike source( I need to use real photo reference more often).

Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have something more original to share.  Thanks for looking!

#1 – RHINOR

Born with calcium deposits on his chin and forehead and with 2 club feet, Danny Bicornus took his problem to the playground of Muscle Beach where he’s known as RHINOR! He’s one bad dude with a big, bad temper (just don’t make fun of his jam pants)!

30 Characters Challenger: Jane Wankmiller

| November 1, 2010 | 0 Comments

Hi Everyone! My name is Jane. I’m not a professional artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve always enjoyed drawing and I’ve always been especially interested in human anatomy.  I just received my master’s degree in forensic anthropology from Michigan State University, and I’m still at MSU working toward a Ph.D. in physical anthropology.

Recently I’ve been making connections in the forensic art community and I’ve been trying my hand at forensic facial reconstructions. Hopefully reconstructions will be a large part of what I do professionally when I get out into the real world.

It’s difficult for me to describe my work because I’m not asked to do it often, but I can say that I work in traditional media–mostly graphite and soft pastels–and you’ll probably see some fantasy themes from me, with some glimpses into my obsession with anatomy here and there.

I heard about the 30 characters challenge from someone I admire who is also participating this year.  I wanted to join the challenge for a few reasons.  I tend to be a starter not a finisher…so I thought the challenge would be a great opportunity to force myself to finish something (well, 30 somethings).  I also thought it would be fun to be part of this experience and to get to know other artists and their work.  There’s also nothing better than a reason to push yourself, so I’m looking forward to the challenge!

Part human, part demon, no one knows what her real name is. She may look cute but she has a bad attitude. She has, like many demons, no respect for human laws and customs. She does whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and no one can get in her way.

#1 Salvadore Price

| November 1, 2010 | 0 Comments

Under the pen name Salvadore Price, Richard Greene wrote several horror novels, a few of them were published.  Very few of them made it big.  When the royalty checks stopped coming in, Greene lost his home, what little contact he still kept with his family and finally his health.  He was a man that had hit rock bottom.  The doctors said they didn’t know what was afflicting him and that he probably didn’t have long to live.  But he knew better.  In the darkness of his dingy apartment, his disease was speaking to him.  All diseases need a carrier, a way to spread, and it had chosen him.

Suddenly, Greene’s life was turning around.  His wealth started coming back, then blossomed.  He was a new item in the tabloid eye.  There was certainly something different about him, but no one could place it.  The only thing new, other than his swagger, was the deep red irritation in his left eye.

Sunday Jones

Sunday Jones, in the guise of 'Knockout'
Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Sunday Jones. Yes, that’s her real name. Parents can be cruel sometimes. Sunday was mugged on the way to university one morning and woke to find herself in a world she could alter seemingly on a whim. All she has to do to make changes to the fundamental structures of reality is draw the effect she wants to have as a comic and upload it to the Internet. The effects are mostly permanent; only thing she can’t change for good is herself.

You see her here in the guise of ‘Knockout’, the superhero persona she often dons in order to fight crime. She has other guises, but this is the most common.

In terms of the art for this one, I’m mostly pleased with the overall look and the colour scheme. My major issue is with the general proportions, the legs and the feet. I’m going to have to really work hard at improving my ability to draw legs, that’s for certain. Still, with 29 more characters to go perhaps the last one will look vaguely like a human? Providing the last one is supposed to look like a human, that is.

I took the idea of time paradox and created it as a being. Time Paradox will only show up to those who tinker with time. Those who tinker with time and were lucky enough to come face-to-face with Time Paradox will find their entire existence in Oblivion.

#1 Mr. “Zombie” Cleaver

| November 1, 2010 | 2 Comments

Well in honor of the first episode of “The Walking Dead” last night (and Halloween). My first character is Mr. John “Zombie” Cleaver. Same ole story. Happy American family. Dad comes home from work. Family was brutally murdered by zombies. He becomes a zombie killer. Discovers he’s immune to the zombie virus. Now he’s out to save the world from the zombie plague. Taaa-daaaa

(Hey I’m an artist not a writer, cut me some slack.)

#1 Giancarlo

| November 1, 2010 | 0 Comments

The smudged image is a little embarrassing (read: really embarrassing), but lucky me, today I got to find out just how bad my scanner really is. In addition, when I finished inking him, I thought, well, this is turning out well, and it’s the first day, so why not color him with soft pencils and charcoal?  Well, considering the condition of my scanner, I suppose this is why not. 🙂

In any case, I really like this one. I’d always had my sort of idea of a magnificent bastard was, and so I thought this would be a chance to bring it to fruition. (What I’m trying to do for the challenge is push myself to draw different types of characters instead of drawing teenagers all of the time. Not to say I won’t indulge in a few of those…) Giancarlo is one of those men- a filthy intellectual, a handsome lech. You could just as easily see him with a book or a stripper in his lap. That lurker that always seems to be there, smoking a cigarette and smirking at you in his business casual. Gian probably has always been there, as he’s hundreds of years old. He loves young adult vampire fiction, not for it’s content but because it somehow makes women think he won’t try to eat them when the night is over.

I’m getting a proper scanner this weekend, so hopefully the quality of the images will get much, much better.

#1 Maurice Estlebraun the Gunpriest

| November 1, 2010 | 0 Comments

The air in the room hung low overhead, musty and thick like the grey grasping plumes of smoke at the Olde Sanctuary once did years earlier in celebration of a successful exorcism.

“A simpler time,” thought Maurice as he lifted the remains of the body slightly with the barrel of his abnormally long pistol.  A dry, black arm crumbled off at the joint with the small movement, settling on the smooth pavement below without sound. Small flecks of previously pink flesh darted upward from the resulting breeze, glad to be free of the charred husk. The smell that wafted into Maurice’s nostrils would make any lesser man cringe and wretch. There was something oddly familiar about this unidentifiable and burned corpse. He thought of flowers.

Maurice Estlebraun stroked his thick brown mustache outward in thought using his thumb and forefinger, surveying the scene. He had an intense face, a brow perpetually furrowed and a mouth like a razor’s cut, thin and sharp. His hair had gone years ago, even before he was consecrated. He wore the garb of the Gunpriests, white and red robes atop hinges and clasps of dull steel and worn leather.

As a Gunpriest of the Unified Church-States of the Judeo-Christian Order proper for the better half of his 39 years, Maurice had seen and smelled horrors such as this many times before. His Brothers in training at the Olde Sanctuary had told him stories… self-impalements, self-flayings, self-incinerations. The Demonkind would use these displays of mutilation as demoralizing examples, shock and awe. It is the first known instance of the Hellhounds’ adaptation of human combat tactics since the war began. It seemed so long ago now, so many lost and missing months as the fight spiraled into wanton destruction. So very many days in service to the Lord and his herd, so many hours since he had breathed in the hint of jasmine in her hair.

With an exhalation, Maurice grimly rose from his kneeled position and holstered his Crucifixion Device, the smooth golden hilt felt familiar as it slid down his palm and into its leather cradle. He closed his eyes and muttered a short prayersong for the deceased. Afterward his eye caught a glint in the death that laid before him.

A jolt of electricity shot from his gut to his throat.

Reluctantly reaching back down, he pulled the shining bauble closer to his face: a silver cross, its perfection starkly contrasting with the morbid surroundings of the cellar. Along the side, an engraving.

It read, “To my Rose: God is with you, even though I am not. I love you. -Maurice.”

The cross clanged as it hit the cold ground, a mark left on its face, never again the same.

#1: Mrs Sandy

| November 1, 2010 | 0 Comments

I knew one of the things I wanted to do with this challenge was populate the worlds of my two existing comics.  So one character I’ve been rolling around in my head for a while, but haven’t had time to actually create, is Big Sandy’s wife, Mrs. Sandy.  She can be a real battle axe, especially if you mess with her collection of porcelain earthworms.

#1 Lord GreenStone

| November 1, 2010 | 3 Comments

I present to you Lord Garian GreenStone, of the Noble clan of GreenStone, Ruler of the Seventh house, Slayer of the Horrid Vagaraian, Ruler of the nine valleys, keeper of the Second seal.

Garian, is an aged veteran ruler, who after losing his arm in an attack by the Horrid Vagarian when he was young swore to one day slay the ferocious beast.

After 30 years of training hunting and political maneuvering *Only nobles were allowed to hunt the Horrid Vagarian* his day finally came.

Chasing the Beast through the ancient wood, he stopped to rest for the night. Upon closing his eyes to the peaceful slumber, he heard a all too familiar rustling in the bushes.  Pretending to slumber still, he rolled slowly and gripped his mighty spear. As he heard the beast lunge *for the beast it was*, he rolled and brought up his spear.

The creatures bulk slid onto the spear with the force of an onrushing wave and crushed Garian. He lay helpless  as the vile hulk of a creature thrashed back and forth in its death throes , his body being broken and crushed, Garian made peace with himself and prepared to be accepted into the arms of the creator. Darkness fell upon Garian and the pain washed away.

Soon the sun rose on a new day and Garian GreenStone was still alive. The creature, a being of pure evil and wretchedness had dissolved into a foul mist and burned away with the dawn fog. Garian lie there broken, and waiting to die when he was found by a hunting party of the Queen’s. Garian related his adventure and was soon welcome at Rhiannon’s court.

#1 Martina

| November 1, 2010 | 4 Comments

Um…hi there.

The Girl at the picture is Martina, a maincharacter of “Königreich der Welten” (“Kingdom of the worlds”),a story I’ve been working at for  a while.

Which means, I’ve got the story but no images or details of the characters, except two game avatars.

But now the description;

Martina is a vivid, happy girl who is working at a local youth group in her freetime (left picture). Being one of only a few girls she knows how to handle boys and enjoys to work with them together. Unfortunately most of the boys and she herself could not even think of becoming more than friends.

At the age of sixteen she had blessing in disguise because she caught the swine flu but as we know most of the time this flu turned out to be quiet harmless.

Nevertheless Martina wasn’t allowed to leave her home for at least two weaks.

To help her to fight her boredom her friend Fabian sent her an invitation for the online RPG “Königreich der Welten” which Martina happily accepted.

But soon she had  to notice that beneath fun there is a lot more at online games…

Well, this is all about Martina. I hope some of you like her.

Ciao, till tomorrow

Day 1: Sebyn

| November 1, 2010 | 7 Comments

Unfortunately my day one post is sort of a quickie!  I’ve been busy and am leaving to see Tim & Eric in Seattle tonight so not a whole lot of draw time.  Anyway, this is Sebyn.  He belongs to an as of yet unnamed race of creatures who probably inhabit some distant planet etc.

He hails from a small inland village on said planet.  Sebyn is an easygoing guy who gets along with his fellow villagers and whose main role in town is helping out one of the shopkeepers.  He probably has a love interest and big dreams, but we’ll have to wait & see!

PS lots of great submissions so far, keep it up y’all!

Robert Xaphan was once human. One night he brought home what he thought was a beautiful woman, but what was in actuality a shape-shifting succubus. This particular species of succubus transfered its demonic curse via sexual intercourse, and the following night Robert regained consciosness to find himself transformed into a demon.

Because of his metamorphosis Xaphan has left his former life, and he now prowls the night, feeding on the life-force of those unfortunate enough to cross his path, all the while hoping that there exists some mystical means by which he might be cured.

Powers: Flight, regeneration, strength, speed, agility, fiery breath

Limitations: If Xaphan does not absorb the life force of a human at least every three days, he will become significantly weak and die.

Character Sketch - 30 Emila Roundtree

Emila Roundtree, poor soul, runs the White Hart tavern in a novel I’m writing for Nanowrimo called Shift.  While not the most exciting character, she is one of the few neutral ones so far in the story, and what’s more,  she didn’t exist as more than a generic barkeep until this afternoon.  Also, I suspect Emila secretly wants to be a pirate.

#1 Richard Gold

In the not too distant, future where cloning technology is available for purchase on the internet via a site called Dave’s List (Nephew to a very famous Craig and blacksheep of the family), sometimes people need things dead. One thing in particular is clowns, after the clown plague of 2033 when clowns were cloned out of control by rogue government spawning technologies it became a necessity. With some spawning stations still on line and hidden through out the world, the call goes out to those brave souls who can face down the terror that is rubber chickens and balloon swords.

Enter into this mix Richard Gold, Clown Killer. A contract-for-hire government sanctioned hunter of clowns operating without permit.

At his 4th birthday party, Richard Gold was scared by a clown and wet his pants. It was something he would never forgive that face painted tart for. When he was 12, while exploring his schools boiler room, he came across another clown who tried to attack him with a bundle of balloons. Barely managing to escape the assault, he pledged that one day he would find a way to stop these helium huffing morons.

Operating rogue for several years he was finally able to legitimize himself when the licensing came down the pipe to take out the Cloned Clowns of San Diego. Little did he realize these weren’t your average clowns though and soon he would be thrust into the world where is only option was to Kill Matt!

He is Richard Gold, Clown Killer.
